Beetroot Halwa

This is a lip-smacking dessert made from beetroot. It is healthy and tasty.

Ingredients –

  1. Beetroot – 500g
  2. Sugar – Half cup
  3. Ghee – 3 tablespoons
  4. Milk – 1 cup
  5. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  6. Dry fruits – According to taste

Method –

  1. You can use any quantity of beetroot that you want. But adjust the amount of sugar, ghee and milk accordingly.
  2. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  3. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine.
  4. Grate the beetroots and keep it aside. Do not remove the water released by beetroot after grating it.
  5. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  6. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Then add the entire quantity of grated beetroot to it.
  7. Fry very well till the rawness disappears. Then add milk to it gradually. Mix well and simmer for few minutes by covering the pan.
  8. Add sugar to it and mix vigorously. When it gets cooked, add Cardamom powder and dry fruits. Mix very well.
  9. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Method –

  1. You can use any quantity of Suji that you want. But adjust the amount of sugar, ghee, water and milk accordingly. Use fine variety of Suji for halwa.
  2. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  3. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine.
  4. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  5. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Gradually add Suji to it stirring constantly. Fry very well till the colour of Suji changes to brown and there is an aroma.
  6. Put milk to it and stir. Then add water to it. Mix well and simmer for few minutes by covering the pan. Ensure that the suji does not stick to the pan while it swells.
  7. Add sugar to it and mix vigorously. Then add Cardamom powder and dry fruits. Mix very well.
  8. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Vermicelli Kheer

This is an appetizing dessert that we usually eat in festivals. It is also known as seviyan kheer or semiya kheer.

  1. Vermicelli – 1 cup
  2. Sugar – Half cup
  3. Ghee – 1 tablespoon
  4. Milk – 4 cups
  5. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  6. Dry fruits – According to taste
  7. Water – Half cup

Method –

  1. You can use any quantity of Vermicelli that you want. But adjust the amount of sugar, ghee, water and milk accordingly.
  2. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  3. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine.
  4. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  5. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Add vermicelli to it. Roast it continuously till its color changes to brown.
  6. Put water to the pan and let the vermicelli swell by covering the pan. After few minutes remove the cover. Then slowly pour milk to the pan.
  7. Simmer the milk and stir occasionally so that vermicelli and milk do not stick to the pan. When the milk comes to a boil, then stir continuously.
  8. Put sugar to it and mix well. Then add Cardamom powder and dry fruits to it. Cook till the kheer looks creamy.
  9. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Banana Halwa

  2. Use fine variety of suji and roast it before preparing the halwa.
  3. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  4. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine.
  5. Chop the bananas and keep it aside. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  6. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Add suji and fry for few minutes till there is fragrance. Add banana and mix well.
  7. Put water to it and simmer for few minutes. Then add milk and mix very well. Add sugar and stir.
  8. Cook the halwa and ensure that all ingredients have mixed. Then add cardamom and dry fruits to it. Stir very well.
  9. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Sabudana Kheer

This is a tasty dessert made from Sabudana (Tapioca pearls). You can also have it while fasting.

  3. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine.
  4. Soak Sabudana in water for at least one hour. The longer you soak Sabudana in water, the lesser time it takes to cook.
  5. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  6. Heat a pan and put milk to it. Add soaked Sabudana along with the water. Simmer for few minutes and stir occasionally.
  7. Make sure sabudana does not stick to the pan. Cook the kheer till sabudana becomes translucent.
  8. Put sugar and mix very well. Then add cardamom powder and dry fruits. Stir well and ensure that all the ingredients have mixed.
  9. Cook till the milk thickens and kheer looks creamy. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

  15. Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons

Method –

  1. Capsicum is not an essential ingredient for this dish. You can skip it if you want. I used Capsicum of red color. You can use Capsicum of any color.
  2. Soak Soybean chunks in hot water for 1 hour. Then squeeze them and keep aside. Chop the Broccoli, chilli, onion, tomato, garlic and capsicum.
  3. Heat a pan and put oil to it. Then add cumin seeds and mustard seeds to it. Let them splutter.
  4. Put onion, garlic, chilli and fry well. Fry till the raw smell disappears. Then add tomato to it. Saute very well. Cook till the tomato becomes mushy.
  5. Put capsicum and soybean to it. Then add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and kasuri methi to it. Mix very well.
  6. Put broccoli and mix well. Broccoli takes time to get cooked, so add water to it. Stir and then cover the pan for few minutes.
  7. Check whether Broccoli has cooked or not. Mix well on high flame. Then garnish it with coriander leaves.

  2. Heat a pan and put oil to it. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle. Then add asafoetida and garlic.
  3. Put onion to it and fry till the raw smell disappears. Then add chilli and okra. Put salt and mix very well. Cover the pan for few minutes.
  4. Check whether the okra has cooked or not. Put turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, chaat masala and garam masala to it.
  5. Stir well and cook till the oil starts separating and okra has cooked completely.
  6. If you find okra sticking to the pan then sprinkle some water. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Some doctors advise you to wear postpartum belts to avoid swelling. Also, it helps in tightening the muscle of the abdomen. When you wear this belt, you get support on your back. Remember, you don’t need to wear it the whole day or during eating.

Maintain good hygiene

There are high chances of infection after postpartum. You need to do the cleanliness of your body. Doctors don’t allow you to take bath immediately after post-partum but yes you can do use cleanliness wipes to maintain your hygiene. Take care of your stitches until the bandages are not open. Also, put regular ointment at your stitches after the opening of bandages.
