Underrated TV shows to Binge on this Quarantine Season

0

Underrated. Not given its deserved value, or standard. Google describes underrated as ‘underestimating the importance or value of something/someone.’ There are a lot of things in this world that are underrated. The fresh air we breathe every day, the company of our loved ones, a roof above our heads. And right now? A good TV show to binge. With the Quarantine being in full effect, and having finished the shows on the roster, all of us are desperate for a good, new one.

While the depth of the entertainment industry is dark and deep, there are a few gems in there that are worthwhile. A little dusty, some shows ahead of their time, its time for us to unearth them now. We present to you, our list of the top ten TV shows on the internet.

10. The End of the F***ing World

We would not call this show underrated. Having gone well with the quirkier part of the Netflix audience, The End of the F-ing World is not exactly a TV show everyone can take in well. Exploring the intricacies of adolescence and uncovering behaviors are usually not revealed in teen coming-of-age dramas, but they are here. The End of the F-ing World borders on the edge of being a show that tells kids to stay in school. When broken down to its fundamentals, the show could be a love story, but is not.

Our attachment to the characters as the series progresses makes it more of a process of growth than anything. That is, both for the characters and us. If you have already seen the trailer and decided it’s not worth your time, we’d implore you to check it out thoroughly. It is bound to get you hooked. All episodes of ‘The End of the F-ing World’ are streaming on Netflix now.

9. Anne With an ‘E’

Talking about coming-of-age dramas, here is one that is not as jarring, but not a usual either. Anne with an ‘E’ is the TV show rendering of the famous novel Anne of Green Gables. An excellent adaptation, the actress playing Anne shows the meticulous detail for perfection by the creators of the show.

The story begins in 19th century rural England, in a village called Green Gables where a couple who had been looking to foster a boy, couldn’t do so and had ended up with a girl, Anne. Their lives then take a turn for the exciting with the lively Anne bringing in new adventures and experiences every day. We also see for ourselves, the vivid adventures Anne herself has, her imagination running wild even in the open rural fields.

8. Bones

One of Fox’s longest-running TV shows, Bones is both alike and different from your usual crime drama. It does feature bodies which are frankly, a little disturbing to look at. Bones follows a more dark comedic undertone concerning its storyline. The show is essentially about two main characters, Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist and Seeley Booth, an FBI agent. Their investigations foray into unnatural deaths, which more often than not turn out to be homicides.

The speciality of these deaths has been that the body would is generally mangled that only a forensic anthropologist could correctly identify their identity and cause of death. The show also explores the lives and relationships of the characters. Bones went on for 12 seasons, starting from June of 2005. It is now available on the streaming giant Disney+Hotstar.

7. A Series of Unfortunate Events

It is truly an art to make successful books into movies or TV shows that are equally good. Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is just that. The story bases itself around three pivotal characters, three children who have only recently lost their parents and have gained one weird and an evil-looking man who’s after their wealth.

Count Olaf as he is called, played by Neil Patrick Harris, is amazingly perfect in his role. The children, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes also play their parts to perfection, dodging and seeing through every attempt of Count Olaf’s to obtain their parent’s inheritance.

6. Bojack Horseman

TV and movies are to be an escape from reality, the stories and fantasies indulged in the productions visualizing the dream we always wanted to attain. Bojack Horseman shows you the folly of expecting the perfect life from the best. In a world where animals behave like humans, until the point that a half-horse, half-human being is the protagonist of the show, Bojack Horseman uncovers harsh truths about humanity. Our vanity, selfishness, imperfections are all symbolized in one Bojack.

Drama webseries

A bitter pill to swallow, Bojack Horseman is a show for the realists. There is a specific symbolism to the show, of how even while it remains animated, there is nothing in it that reminisces our childhood and is more focused on our follies as a man. Six Seasons and completed, this show is now available in its entirety on Netflix.

5. Sense8

Eight people, eight cities, one connection. Coming from the writers of the Matrix, this show is a real doozy.
A suspense thriller, the show follows the story of eight people and the various struggles in their life. However, there is a catch to this. Each person, not of their own volition, has the capability of living in the other’s body. Maybe not living, they seem to have a more transient ability to behave a certain way, altering the person’s life.

Sci-fi webseries

Cosmically chosen, these eight people then coalesce into one other entity, living through each other’s lives, changing the order and balance of how human life progresses. A little confusing and yet brilliantly filmed, Sense8 is a show once picked up, cannot be put down. This show has two seasons and is complete, and is not available on Netflix. While not long enough for an entire marathon, the show does a pretty good job of keeping you hooked till the end.

4. Superstore

We could easily call Superstore NBC’s most underrated comedy show of all time. Superstore is a workplace dramedy revolving around the employees working at a supermarket the likes of Target. Superstore sets itself like a fictional supermarket and is a comedic overtone to the grim situation of essential workers. It quickly puts a hilarious twist to the less than sublime working conditions of the employees working there, bringing together a bunch of misfits and nobodies to work together in a market.

Comedy webseries

The show follows their forays into odd jobs and experiences they all face while devoting their life to a meaningless task with the bare minimum pay. Though it does sound depressing outside looking in, the show manages to put a pretty good comedic spin on it. It is now available on NBC’s official app, working only in the US.

3. Fleabag

An Amazon prime production, Fleabag follows the story of a wacky, cynical and generally nihilistic protagonist. She is oddly known to the audience only as Fleabag throughout the show. She manages a quaint café in London that she and her now-dead friend used to own. The restaurant isn’t doing well, her sister is too uptight and challenging to love, and her father has now remarried after their mother’s death.

Drama webseries

The problems in Fleabag’s life do not seem to cease, and we navigate these waters with her throughout the show. She frequently breaks the fourth wall to provide a general insight into her feelings and is often the highlight of the episodes. Fleabag has two seasons and has won six Emmy’s. However, we suspect that as its premise is essentially a dark comedy, the show hasn’t been sampled by a great many. Fleabag is now complete and available on Amazon Prime video only.

2. Killing Eve

We keep hearing about the FBI, the LAPD, the NYPD departments and the various shows made on them. Well, here is one from across the great pond, in both production and storyline. Killing Eve, which stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, is the story of an MI6 agent Eve and her connection and fascination with assassin Villanelle.

Psychological thriller webseries

Dark, suspenseful, and a show that is bound to keep you on your toes, Killing Eve is one for the books. The mutual obsession created by both the protagonist and antagonist is simply too bewitching to stop watching. Despite being critically acclaimed, Killing Eve remains a highly under-watched show. Killing Eve is now available on Hulu and BBC America.

1.Bosch

We surrender, yes it is another crime thriller, but we promise you, this is the best and most underrated of them all. Detective Harry Bosch is in court for shooting at an unarmed man, who is also a suspected serial killer. During the proceedings of a trial, he involves himself in a case involving the remains of a thirteen-year-old boy. He discovers the boy’s bones on the side of a hill overlooking a suburban neighbourhood. What goes on then is a brilliant foray into the workings of the LAPD, a very raw look at trauma and how a crime affects the officers and the life around it.

Crime Thriller web series

There are also a lot of ups and downs to this show, though we did not want to give away any spoilers so you shall have to watch it out. Bosch has one season and is available on Amazon Prime Video.

These are our suggestions for the top ten episodes to binge on this Quarantine. We hope you’re staying in and staying safe. We send love and strength during these tough times.

Diabetes – A Silent Killer!

Diabetes is a disease denoted by high glucose or sugar level in the blood. It occurs when the body fails to respond appropriately to the hormone insulin or when the production of insulin cells is reduced.
Diabetes is of 3 types: Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus ( G.D.M ). Type 1 and Type 2 are the most common forms.

Type 1 Diabetes:

This denotes an autoimmune condition where the body itself destroys its own insulin-producing cells. This causes the glucose level in the blood to shoot up to dangerous levels. Controlling diet or lifestyle can be of no help to control this type of diabetes. About 10% people in the world are infected with Type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes:

Here the body does not make enough insulin or the insulin present doesn’t work properly causing glucose level to rise up in the blood. This can be hereditary or caused by environmental factors. Controlling diet or lifestyle can help to control this type of diabetes. This happens to be the most common type with 90% affected with it.

Symptoms : Symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst ,urge to urinate more often, fatigue, tingling in the feet or hands or sores that refuse to heal etc .

It is a chronic disease that can only be kept under control and not cured. It affects several vital organs in the body such as eyes, heart and kidney. Hence, lifestyle improvements, medications and exercises are very vital to prevent complications.

Effect of Diabetes on Vital Organs:

Effect on heart- This is the most important organ affected by diabetes. Complication of diabetes leads to Atherosclerosis or thickening of the blood vessels and even leads to cardiac arrest under severe conditions. Diabetics are more prone to high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels and hence, are always advised daily check up.
Effect on Nerves- Excess diabetes causes Nerve Damage or Neuropathy, causing injury to the walls of the blood vessels in our limbs, especially the feet. This causes itching, numbness or a burning sensation that begins at the tips of our limbs and spreads upwards. If you don’t keep your sugar level in control, you may gradually lose all your senses of feeling.
Effect on Kidney – High diabetes damages the millions of tiny blood vessels that filters out the waste from your kidneys. This medical complication is called Nephropathy. In case of kidney failure or irreversible end-stage kidney disease you may need dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Effect on Eyes – High diabetes causes Diabetic Retinopathy i.e. damage of the blood vessels of the retina eventually leading to blindness. Diabetics are also prone to various other eye problems such as Cataracts and Glaucoma.
Effect on feet – Foot ulcers are caused by uncontrolled Diabetes. It makes the skin under the feet susceptible to infection, which in severe cases may prompt a leg amputation surgery to stop the infection from spreading.
Effect on Gums and Teeth – Uncontrolled diabetes may cause bad breath, bleeding gums or gum infections leading to pus formation in gums.
Apart from these, there are several other damages that diabetes may cause you. In most of the cases , there would not be any symptom till you discover that your organs have been severely damaged. Hence the term “silent-killer”.

Are stress and diabetes related?

Yes absolutely! Stress, both physical and mental, can shoot up your blood glucose level dangerously and is considered to be one of the leading factors causing Diabetes. Stress hormones like Epinephrine and Cortisol are secreted more when you are really stressed out emotionally or physically, leading to increase in blood sugar.

Can Diabetes affect children too?

Sadly, nowadays children and teenagers too are affected by diabetes (Type 1 mostly) because of the change in their food habits and lifestyle. Children hardly have access to playgrounds nowadays leading them to be obese or overweight putting them at risk .A child or teenager diagnosed with diabetes have a variety and range of emotions such as shock, anger, sadness, fear and guilt, getting frustrated too easily, feeling “different” from others. So if you happen to have such a kid, you need to handle him/her with extra love and care!

Treatment of diabetes:

Like we have already discussed, this is such a disease that can’t be cured, but there is still hope! We can effectively control it and lead a complete healthy and normal life. This can be done by reducing the sugar level in the blood and regularly monitoring the condition of blood and taking necessary action. To know how you can control this disease read on!

Type 1 diabetes treatment:

Insulin is the main medicine of Type 1 diabetes which helps in replacing the hormone that your body can’t produce to fight diabetes. There are various types of insulin available depending on how fast they start to work and for how long their effect lasts. Accordingly we have, Rapid-acting insulin which starts working within 15 mins and its effect lasts for about 4 hours. Then we have Short-acting insulin which starts working within 30 mins and lasts for about 7 hours. Next we have Intermediate-acting insulin working within an hour or two and effect lasting for around 12 to 18 hours. Lastly we have Long-acting insulin which starts from a few hours after been injected into the patient’s body and its effect lasts for a day.Other than this, exercise and proper diet is also very essential, otherwise none of these medicines would create any difference.

Type 2 diabetes treatment:

Diabetes – A Silent Killer!
Courtesy: storage.needpix

Weight management is very important and proper diet with very low carbohydrate and absolutely no sugar. Diabetes medications prescribed by doctors need to be taken regularly without fail. When all these measures fail, at that stage insulin might be prescribed, but these 2 steps, if properly followed, is usually always enough

Gestational Diabetes treatment:

Proper diet and regular exercise is the key to controlling this diabetes. If that is not enough, then medicines may be prescribed. When even medicines fail to act, then insulin will be prescribed

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, there is no need to worry! My father has Type 2 diabetes since the last 22 years and he has not taken even a pinch of sugar since then. Guess what, he is doing perfectly fine. You can live a perfectly healthy life provided you exercise regularly and maintain a sugar-less diet. Totally avoid raw sugar in tea, coffee or cereals and try taking Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother everyday, first thing in the morning, mixed with a glass of warm water. This should be enough to lead a healthy and happy life.

From Failure to Success

As we all know that success thrives from failure luckily for La Casa De Papel, Netflix took its global streaming rights in late 2017. After getting not so popular in Spain Netflix reawaken the series in December 2017 which then divulged to be one of the most glorious series of Netflix. However the series was first aired on Netflix Spain in July 2017, it was translated into English after acquiring its exclusive global streaming rights.

Netflix didn’t even promote the first season because they never saw Money Heist as real deal. They thought that promoting it would be pouring money into drain so they took it as a side stock. Even after a dumb marketing campaign, Money Heist turned out to be the most watched Non-English web series on Netflix. Seems like Netflix didn’t back on the wrong horse.

Also it was viewers who realised the quality of content served by Netflix in early 2018. It took only four months for Money Heist to become the global hit. This achievement was quite shocking for the creators and Netflix as well. Considering its past failure, they never actually thought it to be a big success. This made Netflix to sign a global deal with Alex Pina. Also asking the creators to make more chapter from the same story.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

0

Quarantine, Quarantine, Quarantine. I’m sure you’re absolutely fed up by now. The same walls, the same scenery, again and again, is bound to make anyone claustrophobic after a while. Today marks two weeks into the Quarantine, and we know that a lot of you have already burnt through all the TV series and movies you could watch. So, we would like to propose a change in plans. Why don’t you spend this extra time cooking food for yet another day in front of the sofa?

And what’s more, you could even figure out what you’d like to watch while the food’s cooking. (PS: Season Four of La Casa De Papel a.k.a Money Heist is finally out on Netflix!)

Do not worry. There’s no need to be a trained professional to cook these recipes. You also do not need to have a hoard of ingredients. You need only three readily available things for each of them, and salt and pepper. Also, maybe just a video call or ask your mother how to preheat an oven? Let’s begin.

What Do I Drink?

Every Meal should begin with the quintessential drink. And yeah, well if you have been to any restaurant in India, your natural response would be to make a lime soda, sit back and relax. But because this is Quarantine, and there are no rules, here are some fusions that we think you’d like.

1. Dalgona Coffee.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

Suffice to say, we have also bought into this decoction that started as a mere Tik Tok video.

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. Two tablespoons of Instant coffee.
2. Two –Three tablespoons of sugar.
3. Water and Milk.

First, put the coffee and sugar into a bowl and pour a few drops of water into it. Now you could either mix it with hands, to around 400 times, stirring fast that is, or you could just use a hand-held mixer if you have one. The frothy mixture obtained is dalgona coffee. Place the coffee on a glass half-filled with milk. We have ourselves the final product. While drinking, mix these two decoctions. You shall obtain a caffeine-filled frothy delight.

2. Raspberry Tequila.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

It’s Quarantine time, and there are no rules! You could prepare this next recipe even for breakfast, as a side to a fluffy omelette (more on that later.)

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. A tablespoon of raspberry jam (measurements are subjective to servings.)
2. An ounce of lemon juice.
3. An ounce of tequila.
4. A medium-sized ice-cube.

Well, there’s honestly not much to this. Pour in the raspberry jam, lemon juice and tequila into a shaker and gently swirl it. Then place a medium-sized ice cube, close the shaker and shake vigorously. Place a sieve before filtering out the tequila into a margarita glass (or any glass you prefer) You could increase the serving size based on your preference. Just maybe go a little light on the tequila.

3. Whiskey Peach.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

If raspberry isn’t really up to your tastes, or if you simply don’t have some, we have another recipe to fix you up. Peach is milder and won’t dominate your drink as much as the raspberry does. We would ideally recommend jam as the mixer, but you are free to use an alternate juice too.

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. A tablespoon Peach jam (or juice, whichever you have lying around)
2. An ounce of lemon juice.
3. An ounce of whiskey.
4. A medium-sized ice-cube.

You know the drill. Pour in the jam or liquid, the lemon juice, the whiskey and swirl. Then put in the ice, close the shaker and shake vigorously. Filter out the drink into the glass of your juice. This drink is also subjective to servings, and you can change the measurements accordingly.

Now that we have conquered the basics let’s move on to the next –

What Do I Eat?

Since it’s just you and your soft toys and the TV at home right now, we have some healthy and unhealthy recipes you could whip up in no time. And just as a bonus, we have a side to it too! So prepare to dine like a king today.

1. The Fluffiest Omelet you know.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

Have you ever seen those types of omelettes on Instagram that look like clouds and probably taste like them too? Well, fret not because they are super easy to prepare.

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. An Egg (or two).
2. Butter.
3. Salt.

Break two eggs into a deep bowl. Beware of any stray eggshells that have made way into it. Now put some spice in your eggs, just the way you like it. Take a hand mixer and start beating the eggs. Soon, it shall begin to look like a smoothie. Do not stop there. Go on, till your eggs look like whipped cream, and create soft peaks. Now remove the mixer, and place a pan on heat. Melt some butter on there and then slowly pour the fluffy egg batter onto it. Place a lid on it after a minute or two and let it cook. Instead of flipping it over, slide the omelette the same way into a plate and fold it. There you have it, folks! The Fluffiest Omelet, you know.

2. Mac and Cheese.

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

I could call this grossly unhealthy, but I’m sure everything is game right now. This comfort food could probably help with the aching loneliness you feel. I apologise, I am merely pulling your leg. Let’s just dive right into it now.

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. Elbow pasta (or whichever pasta is in your cupboards.)
2. Enough milk to boil your pasta in.
3. A lot of cheddar cheese.

Pour the milk into your container. As the milk comes to a boil, pour your elbow pasta in too. Let it boil, till you see the pasta expand and become moist. Now you can simply pour in the cheddar cheese and mix. Keep it on a low flame while doing this. Do not stop mixing until the cheese has melted into the pasta. Your mac and cheese are ready!

And now, for the side of our dish.

The ingredients you shall need are –
1. Broccoli – or Cauliflower, whichever you prefer.
2. A pod of crushed garlic.
3. A lot of cheese – of whichever type you prefer.

If you are using broccoli, simply put it in a baking tray. If you a using a cauliflower, simply place some butter in a pan and sauté the cauliflower with a pinch of salt. Bake it at 375 F for 25 minutes. You have your Cheesy Garlic broccoli, aside to complement all your dishes.

And last but not least, is what do you have when you’re craving for some epic dessert. So we move on to our next –

Chocolate Mug Cake

Ten Recipes to Dine on this Quarantine Season

The simplest, most easy dessert you could make at home is a mug cake. It’s cheap, needs three ingredients, and you can eat it out of a mug! How cool is that!

For this recipe, the ingredients you shall need are –
1. ¾ cup of chocolate-hazelnut spread (basically, Nutella)
2. 2 Eggs
3. ¼ cup of Flour.

Pour the chocolate spread and the eggs into a bowl. Or if you intend to do it entirely in a mug, you could do that too. Mix them well, until it has become one paste. Pour in the Flour and mix in circular motions along one direction till it looks like thick cake batter. Microwave it for 2 mins. Make sure to check if it has been cooked fully by sticking a toothpick in. Microwave for another three minutes if needed. And there you have the best dessert ever, the chocolate mug cake!

We hope you liked our simple take on the recipes you could make at home during this Quarantine. We send love and strength to you all during these tough times.

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

9
Lockdown

On 24th March 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the entire nation will be under a total lockdown for 21 days to reduce community spreading of corona-virus disease in India and all the havoc began. All started panicking and feared for their own lives and their loved ones. The WhatsApp University began bombarding numerous solutions for prevention and cure of the horrifying disease COVID-19. But the best precaution worldwide is to yourself locked-down in the world’s best place:” your home, sweet home”.

The PM’s order was a bold step but a large number of people were away from their comfortable homes. This lockdown has put everyone into a confused state of mind. Would you call it a house arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself? To answer this we need to look into the lives of different individuals. From rich to poor, from the people dwelling in skyscrapers to the ones in the heart of the country the villages.

For instance, many of my IT professional friends like Vipul Vaity this lockdown means work from home and it means at times he has to slog a few more hours than he does in his office. But he’s happy to do so as he saves his time on travelling and also keeps the pollution level low in the city. This ritual of slogging many more hours is followed by all the professionals which results in more productivity for their respective companies. As long as the internet works the work from home crowd doesn’t complain.

On the other hand Aysh a Sales Manager, with a real estate Company, this lockdown is an opportunity for him to spend time with his wife. As his job profile involves lots of travelling, flying abroad and dealing with business professionals from the Middle East regularly. For Ankit Bhoi who works as the Head of administration at a School, vacations have come early but at the same time, he’s worried when the new academic year will begin.

Dr. Akanksha has been juggling with work and home. She’s attending patients at late hours and also looking after her sister-in-law who’s expecting a baby soon. For her, this lockdown is a mixture of sentiments where she’s helping the recovery of patients and on the other hand preparing for a newcomer in her life.

What’s trending!

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

This lockdown has also allowed grooming yourself and being with your family. Be it Yoga, work-out, following a healthy diet, the youngsters, as well as the older generation, are actively putting efforts in looking after themselves. Vaishnavi Patil a banker by profession is busy preparing mouth-watering diet recipes and sharing amongst her Instagram and  Whatsapp friends. Asawari a teacher is busy giving insights on how to keep the kids busy and away from television sets and internet in this testing times.

Khozaim Momin Sales manager with a company dealing into manufacturing of medical equipment. He’s content as he has contributed to society by crossing his monthly sales target. He has supplied the medical equipment to many hospitals in Mumbai which are in dire need for treating the COVID patients. And during the lockdown, he’s feeling relieved as he has found ample time to help his wife and look after their newborn baby.

Dreams awakened and prolonged

Krunal Patel a Software Engineer’s dream was fulfilled on Valentines when he got approval from his company to work at the US office for a period of 2 years. He was busy planning his scheduled leave in May when the COVID 19 outbreak moved rapidly and his dream again seems to be postponed for the time being. Ujwala a practicing Lawyer has found solace at her native place in Wai, Satara. Her native home is a renovated farmhouse which is away from the busy city life. So she’s happy to teach her young daughter, the importance of agriculture and village life.

Subhradeep Banerjee an entrepreneur is enlightening himself by watching the online book reviews and happily sharing the secrets of how to improve your work and lead a better lifestyle. Kasim stays in a chawl beside his relative Shahid both hailing from their native villages in the outskirts of Gulbarga, Karnataka. Kasim delivers newspapers and Shahid a chaiwala feeds his family by preparing tea for a warehouse complex. He approximately served 500 tea-cups daily and had planned to go to his native place in Gulbarga, Karnataka for the summer vacations along with his family and his friend Kasim but due to lockdown, they both are living on the savings they made in the past few months and hence it seems summer vacations have been postponed for both until next year.

Humanity at its best

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

This lockdown has also allowed social worker and youth politician to help the peoplein which my friend Hemraj Mhatre along with his team of 20 youths from Panvel and Raigad District have helped around 600 labours to get shelter, essential supplies like food and medicines from different states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. His mentor Shri. Satyajeet Tambe, President of Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) and his youth workers around the entire state of Maharashtra have done a humongous task.

Around 40 District Presidents and numerous post holders of (MPYC is a youth wing of Indian Youth Congress and Indian National Congress) have conducted Blood Donation Camps around the entire state and have successfully collected about 10,000 bottles of Blood and helped the Indian Government in these testing times.

The youth feel proud as apart from blood donation camps they have also committed to help the displaced and the poor people by providing them face masks, sanitizers, and have tried to donate essential supplies for the entire lockdown. Tambe’s youth team of Washim District have painted the streets in various villages and have conveyed the message of maintaining the social distance to prevent the dreadful COVID-19 whereas his Thane team has undertaken the sanitation work in the Yeor village, Thane. Tambe is hopeful of collecting a donation from Maharashtra state through his youth team and donate it to IYC, Delhi which in turn would distribute to the needy throughout the nation.

Khushroo Poacha a Nagpur resident received a call from Shri. Uddhav Thakeray, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra praising the efforts he had put to feed 6,000 families and also managed to collect 2 tonnes of rice to feed another 60,000 poor people. All this was done single-handedly without any help from the government. He explained to the CM how he had set up 21″seva-kitchens” in India to feed the needy with nutritious food and also “Neki ka Pitara aka fridge of kindness” for the poor.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, there have been many donations done by various business personalities, celebrities and sportsmen in the entire nation. The Tatas have always set an example during the time of crisis, Shri. Ratan and his group of companies have pledged to donate Rs. 1500 crore to help the needy during the fight against this dreadful disease.

A 15 year golfer Arjun Bhatia has made one of the greatest sacrifice a sportsman can make. This teenage golfer from Noida has sold all his trophies which he earned in his career and raised Rs. 4.30 lakhs towards the donation for the needy. The trophies includes three world golf championship titles and national championship and donated the money towards PM-CARES (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund.

Finally, the only thing to say is that caste and religion are not important to show humanity. These and many more heroes who are helping all people of all religions as humanity alone.

Mother nature is healing

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

The mother nature is happy to be relieved from all kinds of pollutions as everyone is away from their work and house arrest. The pollution level in the cities has come down drastically. The humans are staying indoors and the earth is healing which is good news for the animal kingdom too.

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

Now lets talk about Mumbai. Mumbaikars got a glimpse of rare sights of Dolphins near Breach Candy, Mumbai. These dolphins are also known as Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins which are often seen on the Mumbai coasts. It is said that due to lesser movements of large ships at JNPT the dolphins were sighted so close to the shores. The national bird was sighted on the streets of Babulnath and Malabar hills, Mumbai. The lucky residents of Parsee Colony got a glimpse of these Peacock in the morning.

Habits:

The infants are very sensitive and need the utmost care. They could be excluded from the strict regime as they act according to their whims and wishes. The school going kids should be kept away from the televisions and the internet. They could be taught the moral stories, the stories of Akbar-Birbal, stories of Panchtantra, Amarchitra Katha, the stories of great warriors such as the Great Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Tipu Sultan, Ashoka the great, the stories of the freedom struggle.

The college students should be kept occupied with the struggle and making of great personalities through their biographies and autobiographies such as my Experiments with Truth by Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the legend Bhagat Singh, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Wings of Fire by APJ Abdul Kalam Azad, Ratan Tata, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg to name a few.

The professionals if are not working from home they could try their hands at cooking and may develop new hobbies such as singing, writing blogs, poetry and drawing. One could start to learn gardening and teach the little ones too. The little ones could be taught by planting, soiling and watering one sapling at a time.

The elder ones need to look after their health so they have to pay attention to their diet and food habits. They have ample time to look after the younger generation and they should share their valuable experiences with them. Painting is a rare activity which the professionals hardly engage with, this is a good time to nurture such activity, who knows one may find a hidden artist in these testing times.

Follow a Schedule :

But all’s not well due to the lockdown. People are getting tensed due to this isolation. Many of us are glued to the news channel and praying for the speedy recovery of the infected and taking precautions so that the number doesn’t increase in our neighbourhood.

There are interviews and tips regularly shown by a psychiatrist as how to keep calm during these testing times. There are many such tips to be followed. Following are such age-wise. The most important tip which everyone must follow is to have a time table scheduled and which has to be followed regularly. As per Scott Kelly, a retired astronaut who has spent an entire year in space suggests us to follow a schedule, develop a habit and start journaling to keep yourself engaged during these testing times.

Hygienic lifestyle and a minimalist approach:

During this horrific time, one needs to learn to maintain social distance. And while doing so one needs to maintain a hygienic lifestyle. For the beginners regular cleaning of hands by soap or sanitizer as shown on television and also wearing a mask in case you need to move out of the house.

By staying at home one could easily find the time and start with cleaning their wardrobes. The unused clothes and things could be packed and kept away to be given to the needy. The younger generation is unaware of the importance of the hygienic life and minimalist approach, if they are taught the importance at the right time they would continue for their entire life. And this lockdown is a good time to do so.

Honour/ appreciate the Community Helpers:

Lockdown: House arrest or a chance to evaluate yourself?

The horrific time is so vague that be of any religion, caste, rich or poor, all the places of worship are closed. Hence the Doctors, the police officers, the municipal employees who keep our city clean and the people who are completing our essential supplies need to be appreciated. As they are our only silver lining.  The simplest way one could contribute to their efforts is by staying indoors and helping God’s avatar to do their jobs in their best possible ways.

Health is indeed Wealth:

Lockdown has given us most of us ample time to look at our health and our lifestyle. We could adopt a habit of learning yoga, meditation or a workout at our homes. A 30 mins workout can do wonders for your beer-belly and you could surprise your office colleagues with your new look after the lock down. This time there cannot be any excuses for want of time or energy as most of us are staying home. One could look up to the internet and take guidance as to work out for beginners at home and also on the activity almost the entire globe is following “Yoga”.

The world is going through a horrific time and we have learnt many lessons in the harshest ways. Now we have a chance to evaluate ourselves and the time’s going to test us. We not only have to look at ourselves and our loved ones but at the same time respect and take care of nature and the unfortunate ones too.

People are often uncertain about whether the billionaire jet set deserve the riches bestowed upon them by their families, business dealings or connections, but one thing is for sure: there are a few items that all self-respecting billionaires must have in order to declare their wealth to rivals and friends alike.

One of these is a yacht, and not just any yacht. These days you would be laughed at if you didn’t have a helipad or a Michelin star chef on board. Every summer the biggest yachts congregate in the Mediterranean to soak up the sun, the Monaco GP and to make a quick trip to the famous Monte Carlo Casino. Here are some of the biggest and best yachts that have been sighted in the famous gold-plated Monaco harbor.

4 Monaco Super Yachts to Make You Go Ohhhhh!

Maltese Falcon

Although most super yachts these days tend to rely on their engines to propel them around the Med’s turquoise waters, the Maltese Falcon owned by hedge fund manager Elena Ambrosiadou has incredible sails which announce her arrival in Monaco’s port and are the envy of everyone on the dock. The boat only holds 12 guests at any one time, meaning only close friends or family are welcome to join her.

Octopus

4 Monaco Super Yachts to Make You Go Ohhhhh!

The longtime maritime partner of Microsoft co founder Paul Allen, the Octopus was only recently ousted as being the largest expedition yacht on the planet. Although Allen sadly passed away in 2018, he left behind two helipads, a swimming pool, a music studio and two submarines for the next owner, meaning whoever it is will never be bored. With so much entertainment packed on the boat’s multiple decks it’s rare for those on board to ever have to leave. Who knows? Perhaps people this rich shun Monte Carlo’s casino, restaurants and movie theaters, preferring instead to have the staff serve them popcorn in front of the home cinema or pop grapes into their mouths as they indulge in Oddschecker free spins from the comfort of the hot tub. Either way, this is a vessel that gives its passengers endless leisure options.

Kismet

The go-to yacht for celebrity singers, producers and movie stars is undoubtedly Kismet, a 92-meter-long vessel with everything on board you would expect to find in a Hollywood Hills mansion. This includes a spa, movie theater, roaring outdoor fireplace and a winter garden (if you really want one of those at the height of summer…). The likes of Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been spotted aboard in Monaco and Netflix recently filmed a movie on deck.

AQUA

Although it’s yet to be launched, AQUA is already making waves mainly due to the fact that it is rumored to be powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology, meaning it will be pollution free, simply expelling clean H2O rather than noxious fumes. Bill Gates was touted as having commissioned the yacht although he has rowed back on that chatter in recent months.

Comprehending LGBTQIA

0

For generations now, the society has been functioning on standardized principles that have been followed so diligently that it becomes almost impossible to question whether they really assist falsehood. It is as if every person, born into this vicious circle, has been trained to accept its fate without raising voices. However, when someone actually musters the courage to stand against the practice, to defend their interests, to live life according to their will, they are termed as an “outcast” or for that matter, a disgrace to the society. This is exactly what is responsible for the rage, mental outbreaks and loss of sense of belongingness and hence, cracks in the community of people.

Comprehending LGBTQIA is not really that big of a task if one really empathises let alone identifies with them. Now, the major part is to gain an insight into the initialism and navigate our way through the entire community.

LESBIAN

Cheerful lesbian women embrace passioantely and have fun together

A lesbian is a homosexual woman. As history bears witness to certain distressing occasions when women had their struggles to come out, homosexuality is still a taboo in many South Asian communities. There exist certain examples of women helping other lesbians to come out and garner worldwide support. Throwing women out of their houses upon coming out has been reported increasingly. As disturbing as this sounds, they were also married to a man for the sake of keeping their religion. The path has been difficult but there’s still hope as we are progressing into transformational times. Social media has helped gain exposure to this matter. The easy truth is that there is a tiny difference of a ‘hyphen’ in girl-friend and girlfriend and it is high time we accept that.

GAY

A gay is a homosexual man. They are not regarded as ‘gentlemen’ in some cultures. But nobody realises that for a gay to come out of the closet is a challenge of its own. It is an insult to their sex. Recently, there has been significant progress, but there is more to go. Gay pride did not emerge to celebrate being gay, rather it was born to gain their existing right, to make a statement that they deserve ordinary lives. A gay man is every bit equal to a straight man and nothing less.

BISEXUAL

A bisexual is attracted to the same sex and the opposite sex in varying degrees. This means that a person doesn’t necessarily have to be exclusively homosexual or heterosexual but can be both. The LGBTQ+ culture recognises a social life that is beyond the society. There’s still a stigma attached to identifying someone as a bisexual as society loves to believe that it is a make-believe term and would rather accept it as a disease or mental illness. First, due to their population in the LGBTQ+ community being relatively small and second due to accepting them as gay/lesbian when in a homosexual relationship and not a part of the LGBTQ+ community when in a heterosexual relationship. The sexual attraction split can be anything and not necessarily a normalised 50-50. Indubitably, “The only thing that’s a phase is this Homophobia.”

TRANSGENDER

A person who doesn’t identify with the sex assigned to them at the time of their birth is termed as a Transgender and the one who identifies with the same is a Cisgender. The community is always a subject of judgement for the society. It is the process of a medical transition but it really is a way to love one-self and more importantly accepting oneself as they are without any alterations. Misgendering prevails in this community. The key point here is to be extremely careful while using the pronouns they use.

QUEER

An essential part of the LGBTQ+ community, queer means “peculiar”. The concept of identifying oneself as queer is quite recent when questions arose as to who a person really is. Being queer is to question one’s desires. There can never be a definition here as this term is all about formulating and deciding upon your subjective definition. A while ago, “queer” was also used for gay, lesbian or bisexual communities. However, identifying with one community got easier after attaining clarity. Queer became a complimentary word. Homosexual or heterosexual, queer or no queer, the essence of it all is to identify with yourself.

INTERSEX

The “+” sign adds Intersex to the spectrum. A person who is born with sex characteristics including genitalia, chromosomes, reproductive organs or hormones not corresponding with male or female is termed as an intersex individual. According to experts, between 0.05% to 1.7% of the population is born with intersexual traits. In some cases, these traits become quite evident at the birth and if not then, probably later when the individuals hit puberty. To conform them to the standards i.e. binary characteristics, these people undergo surgeries. It is only ethical to let the intersex individual be fully aware of their options before deciding upon anything for themselves regarding their bodies.

ASEXUAL

The last but not the least, we arrive at asexual. An asexual person experiences a difference in the degree of sexual attraction as compared to a sexual person. Now this shall not be misinterpreted as someone who is willingly asexual or celibate. There might be a little or even no sexual attraction in the case of an asexual person. “Ace” is the umbrella term for Asexuality. An ace can be of any gender and be attracted to anyone. This community suffers due to inappropriate visibility.

This brings us to sexual orientation and all the communities in themselves are an intrinsic part of a person’s identity. Comprehending the LGBTQIA community begins when we accept and broaden our mindsets to their existence. It is only then that this community can reach a comfort level and have a sense of belongingness in the world that they were born just as everyone else out there. To show our respect and love for them, it is also important to not assume their pronouns and ask them about the pronouns they prefer. It never hurts to ask and grab the due knowledge. The spectrum is as varied and as colourful as one can imagine. It reiterates the pride that the LGBTQIA community shares and uplifts.

LGBTQIA is not a taboo.
LGBTQIA is just unaccustomed, paving its way to accustom.

In this generation, as the corporate world progresses in a rapid motion, there is almost no time to look at the nitty-gritty of organizational management. However, good managers hold a strong power of making the organization stand firm and strong in spite of all odds. A good manager is neither too lenient nor too strict, but a combination of both in the correct approximate.

Let us go through some of Management types in corporate.

Authoritative Management

Types of Management in Corporate

The authoritative management technique is a technique in which the hierarchy of management is very rigid. This management style was initially described by Daniel Goleman in his book ‘Primal Leadership’ which was published in 2002. He explained it as a combination of ‘Affiliative, Coaching, Democratic, Coercive, and Pacesetting’ technique.

The authoritative management style follows very strict rules, regulations, and policies in the organization. Ever the hierarchy in this management style is strict and rigid. As a matter of fact, all the power is held by the top management and all decisions are made without consulting their teams or requesting feedback. Even, strict disciplinary actions are taken against those employees who fail to complete their tasks or execute orders as per the instructions provided by the top management. An advantage of the Authoritative style is by following a strict hierarchy, a decision is made faster. On the other hand, though, the employee morale suffers in this case. It is important to know that sometimes, getting a second opinion can help in providing a new perspective and more complete information.

Directive Management

Directive Management is similar to the Authoritative style. Here, the managers are under the impression that the subordinates or employees are supposed to execute their orders and rules laid down by them. However, one of the most important things to be remembered in this management is that rules and regulations should be well specified and clear. Without proper clarity, directive management is bound to be a huge disaster.

The Path-Goal Theory is the motivation behind Directive Management. In the directive style of management, it is mandatory for the leader to provide achievable goals to the employees. Moreover, they must also illustrate how to achieve those objectives.

In a team that consists of employees who are not enough skilled, this is a very useful style of management. As far as gaining knowledge or even having a stronghold of skills to proceed further in the corporate ladder, it is an ideal management style that can motivate the employees.

Examples and Rules in Directive Management

Let us illustrate the various example of Directive management and how to follow them.

  • Illustrate who is in charge of decision making. If a leader is instructed to lead a particular group, he or she should not doubt his/her own credentials.
  • Always follow conservative methods. Creativity will always come with risk. Risks are best to be avoided at any cost in a predetermined scene.
  • Be resolute about your own decisions. Decision making is provided to you, which means you must tell your staff and your subordinates about the company’s objectives with verbal and other means. This will keep everyone strictly informed. A leader should, in any case of any sort of demotivation, serve as an incentive. Hence, a leader should be setting himself as an example and inspire them to work.
  • It is important to be responsible and raise awareness. As a matter of fact, a leader’s opinion on a specific work item should be considered having more priority over all other ones.
  • Look after how the laborers are performing. Always keep all the information about what is happening in the company. You must also remember that without proper supervision from a leader, the project members will be lenients and the project will not be completed on time.
  • You must be well aware of other’s work and remind them of the work they must do in case they aren’t doing it in a proper manner.
  • Do not, I repeat, do not, ever, contradict your principles. To make things easier even, write a list of things that goes out of the company’s policy or the rules you would want the subordinates and employees to follow.
  • It is important to pay attention to wage-earners in all cases of non-compliance with the rules. Let them know in a firm manner, the behavior that is permissible and the behavior that is not permitted.
  • Learn to manage and hold responsibility.

Affiliative Management

In this type of leadership, managers support, motivate and encourage their teams. The managers as well as take pride in their ability to keep them happy and tend to provide positive feedback. All in all, the end goal is to create a balanced workplace and avoid conflicts.

The underlying concept of harmony is prevalent in this management system. The goal of Affiliative Management is to build groups, teams in a strong bond. It also focuses on building an organization that works well together in achieving the objectives which are set forth by the organization. This style of leadership is extremely favorable to employees.

The Affiliative style of management has its own disadvantages or drawbacks. For example, managers might even neglect or ignore employees’ poor performance. However, during times of distress and complicated situations, it might become difficult to handle the team. As a consequence, employees may settle for less, provide the least importance to quality work and even fail to reach their full potential.

In an ideal case, this approach is mostly when your team needs reassurance and motivation. This type of management is essential only when the team needs to improve on its prerequisite skills or learn new skills. Few kind words work a long way. However, constant praises might actually degrade the performance of individuals as well as a team.

Democratic Management

Types of Management in Corporate

In the Democratic style of management, the leaders encourage their employees to participate in the decision-making process and solve problems together. As a matter of fact, this type of management not only enhances a creative environment and collaboration but also improves teamwork and ensures effective communication.

The characteristics of Democratic Management can be listed as follows.

  • Ideas, thoughts, and opinions are taken from all the members of the group. Finally, the leader decides the final course of action to be followed.
  • In this management, the members of the group feel more engaged in the process of management and corporate decision making.
  • This style of management encourages creativity. In fact, the Democratic style of management also appreciates thinking skills.

Employees’ opinions are considered important and placed in front of the manager before he makes decisions, which in turn leads to an increase in team morale. Amazon, Google, Twitter are some of the very reputed companies that follow the Democratic model. This is one of the mottos behind their success.

However, a lot of procrastination, the difference in opinion is one of the biggest disadvantage of this approach. If employees don’t agree with the manager and vice versa, a lot of conflicts may arise. As a consequence, the time consumed in finally reaching a decision is huge and cumbersome.

These are some of the popular styles of Management which are followed by corporate houses. However, none of the corporate houses follow only one style. Usually, it is a combination of all the styles which are mixed depending on the situation, type of team and the leader.
