An Open Letter To Your 15-Year Old Self

0

Hi Beautiful,

No! Wipe them off, you are not so weak to cry over these small things. Okay! It happens, you didn’t studied for your comparative examinations, doesn’t mean you will not work hard for your Board Exams. Stop letting this negativity overpower you and God! Please don’t allow your inner strength  to shatter. Do not listen to people who demoralise you, do not listen to them who say you have no worth and you won’t be able to achieve anything in life. It was just an exam, you didn’t  studied for it, so did you got the result. Everyone gets  the output according to the input given by them my Dear! If you expect that you will not prepare for the exams and one day, you will be blessed  with THE SUPREME POWER to be the Topper…then my Lady, step out of your fairyland!! It’s the AS YOU SOW, SO SHALL YOU REAP formula !! It’s just a matter of just few months…this pain of hardwork is temporary, but the glory shall reside  with you forever .

Okay…try to control your emotions, you will grow and learn so much from this. Don’t look back for the time you have till now, but be calculative about the time you have with you to adorn your future and translate it into a bright, shining and a radiant one. Ajay sir scolded you for your betterment  and furtherance. Accept it as a blessing in disguise my love, he compared you with Shreya and praised her just because of the decent marks she obtained , he is unaware of your animosity with her and it was just a matter of coincidence and nothing else, definitely it was not intentional to compare you with your biggest enemy and let you down. He may eulogise you tomorrow for your great academic performance. It is just that Ajay Sir see the potential in you and thinks that you are capable enough to score more.

Chemistry is mess!! It’s is a world known fact but you have to pass it, you are left with no other choice. But, believe me Sweetheart! You will pass it  with glorious and spectacular marks and will forget that you ever took it. You will look back to it and say,” Pheww!! It’s finally over …” with a smile. School is very important it teaches you time management and respect  for yourself as a student who earns their own grades. The daily hard work  for the subject will suck at you present, but will bring a twinkle at your face when you see your mark sheet.

Love yourself! Listen to your Grand-mom when she says , you are unique…. she is right. You have special power that keeps your head high every single day as you have been through so much. “I am dumb, I am ugly !”- No, you are not !! Stop worrying  about your damn appearance and start focussing on the process of your betterment. The fight that you had with mom last night about your dirty room will not mean anything and will be one of the many, bit it’s okay. it is not the end of the world that you guys argue about everything, you are just 15 right now and shall be mature day by day. You want a lavish and luxurious life ahead, and you have to work upon it to make those fantasies real.

These arguments with your friends need a HALT !! A year from now Riya won’t remember what Manya said about her boyfriend. The catty fights are seriously not worth your time, I promise. Your friends are there for reason…a temporary reason. You will have fun with them, love them , but do not be hurt when they leave. You met so many of them before too, you thought you will be friends forever but it didn’t happened. So many people come and go, and they play a temporary role in your life, you meet everyone in life for a purpose, when that purpose is fulfilled there is a departure. You shall meet people that might reappear years from now, just wait.

God gave you this body, life, family, friends and this fact moment for a reason. Let the world guide you and just flow with it. You will everyday learn from these sweet and sour experiences and will grow up to be so strong and wise. You have too much potential to get down yourself.

Trust yourself, trust your tuition, Relax! Take a deep breath and with all new zeal, open your chemistry book and start with your mission, with a smile! Love your life…

With Love

Big Dams – What Are The Benefits And Problems?

0

Big dams are often regarded as a symbol of national development. However, there are several other issues and problems related to these.

BENEFITS :

 benefits of big dams

River valley projects with big dams have usually been considered to play a key role in the development process due to their multiple uses. India has the distinction of having the largest number of river – valley projects. The tribals living in the area pin big hopes on these projects as they aim at providing employment and raising the standard and quality of life. The dams have tremendous potential for economic upliftment and growth. They can help in checking floods and famines, generate electricity and educe water and power shortage, provide irrigation water to lower areas, provide drinking water in remote areas and promote navigation, fishery etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS :

Image result for environmental problems of big dams

The environmental impacts of big dams are also too many due to which very often the big dams become a subject of controversy. The impacts can be at the upstream as well as downstream levels.

The upstream problems include the following :

  • Displacement of tribal people
  • Loss of forests, flora and fauna
  • Changes in fisheries and the spawning grounds
  • Siltation and sedimentation of reservoirs
  • Loss of non forest land
  • Stagnation and waterlogging near reservoir
  • Breeding of vectors and spread of water borne diseases
  • RIS causing earthquakes
  • Growth of aquatic weeds

The downstream impacts include the following :

  • Water logging and salinity due to over irrigation
  • Micro-climatic changes
  • Reduced water flow and slit deposition in river
  • Flash floods
  • Salt water intrusion at river mouth
  • Loss of land fertility along the river since the sediments carrying nutrients get deposited in the reservoir
  • Outbreak of vector – borne diseases like malaria

Thus, although the dams are built to serve the society with multiple uses, but it has several serious side effects. That is why, now there is a a shift towards construction of small dams or mini-hydel projects.

Why Should One Choose To Be An Entrepreneur?

1
Hand pointing at a Entrepreneur word illustration on blue background.

Entrepreneurship is a very famous word amongst the business community life. But, there are many common people who still cannot get the definition and meaning for who is an entrepreneur. One who takes an endeavour is the meaning of the French word entrepreneur. There is no one definitive profile. Creativity is the spark that drives the development of new products or services or ways to do business. It is the push for innovation and improvement. Dedication is what motivates an entrepreneur to work hard, 12c hours a day or more, even seven days a week, especially in the beginning, to get the endeavour off the ground. Planning and ideas must be joined by hard work to succeed. Dedication makes it happen!

Why Should One Choose To Be An Entrepreneur?

1. You Get To Do What You Love

If an entrepreneur is going to start his business, it is assured that he will get better odds to succeed if he does something that he loves! Why? Because passion is the fuel that is needed to face all the obstacles. It is rightly said, “Choose a job that you like and you will never have to work a day in your life!” – Confucius

2. You Get Independence And Freedom

Entrepreneurship allows undertaking the activities of one’s choice and comfort which offers independence and freedom in return. Many people think independence and freedom means going to work or take vacations when you want or need. The truth is that it is not possible at least in the earlier years of business. On the other hand, when business is mature, strong and self – sufficient, it begins to offer independence and financial freedom.

3. You Get Recognition And Self Fulfilment

Entrepreneurship provides the ability to be involved in the total operation of the business, form concept to design and creation, from sales to business operations and customer response. It offers the prestige of being the person in charge. In line with the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it is very normal to desire for recognition and strive for self fulfillment and achievement. “What a man can be, he must be!” – Maslow

4. Income Potential Increases

Entrepreneurship offers a greater possibility of achieving significant financial rewards than working for someone else. This is a big one because when you’re an entrepreneur, you can create a direct relationship between your efforts and your income. In other words, if you efforts are higher, your rewards should be higher too!

5. You Get To Be Your Boss

Entrepreneurs are their own bosses. They make the decisions. They choose whom to do business with and what work to do. They decide what hours to work, as well as what to pay and whether to take vacations or not. ” Your real boss is the one who walks around under your hat” – Napolean Hill

How Women Should Deal Mood Swings

0

The subsistence ratio of facing difficulties both internally and externally tend to be relatively high for a woman than a man. Women go through severe pain during periods and pregnancy. Assuming the aftermaths are better, the struggle during the course of time is exhausting. Women tend to undergo Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) which includes depression, sickness, anxiety attacks, angry outbursts and many other mood alterations that are commonly known as mood swings. It happens due to certain hormone imbalances as estrogen increases and progesterone decreases in the body.

Dealing with Mood swings is a tedious job especially when women go through periods. Few possible pledges they take in order to keep themselves composed in manner. The following can help stabilize mood swings and improve a woman’s emotional health in the weeks before menstruation.

Staying Active

How Women Should Deal Mood Swings

Staying active keeps women mind fresh and happy which helps with bad mood swings. Physical activity can lift moods and improve depression by doing a routine exercise that also brings healthy lifestyle. The degree of isolation exponentially worsens mood, to avoid that, the mere act of talking to another person, of opening your mouth and letting words come out, can lift mood instantly.

Healthy diet

How Women Should Deal Mood Swings

Limited meals are advisable as more than two or three meals may increase PMS symptoms. Eating in small quantity many times would help to run throughout the day without irritability or hunger craving. A very significant role to follow for lower pain intensity is consuming more of Calcium, Vitamin E supplements combined with the food. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and sweets before the period may make a difference in mood as they increase anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, depressant, and blood sugar fluctuations.

Stress Management

How Women Should Deal Mood Swings

Knowing that PMS symptoms make women vulnerable during the course of time, it is obvious to realize they are strong enough to undergo stress highly inside them.  In such cases, meditating, yoga, and deep breathing helps to attain peace of mind and body that leads to managing stress better than usual. Individual or group therapy will also benefit them and it is found to be effective. Doing a favourite hobby also relieves stress like reading books, singing, dancing, etc. It is surely tedious to handle stress and pain simultaneously but what more can one think of rather finding one’s own way to attain peace and relieve it.

Happy EnvironmentHow Women Should Deal Mood Swings

Pursuing only positive vibes and ignore negative vibes from others is another dose of magic to look forward to optimism during periods. For instance, forcing oneself to be kind during this time rather than get irritable or tearful for pain and mood swings that directs to tantrums and depression towards people might cause guilty towards oneself for attempting it to them. To help from this could be possibly be achieved by finding a positive company like reminiscing memories with best friends and also by keeping only optimistic people nearby.

A report from National Sleep Foundation says 30% of women reported lack of resting sleep while they’re menstruating. The to-do list can really wait a while as its okay to make healthy choices cranky and less likely of them.

There are many other small things that could really lighten up a woman’s mood when she undergoes severe pain or mood swings. It’s like seeing our own favourite person attempting to make us feel better through efforts. Fewer tips are, giving more love and attention, avoid giving negative comments, surprising with flowers and chocolates, not making feel unwanted and most importantly never take things personally when women going through mood swings as it has nothing to do with her but it’s because of hormones.

Right to Information

Right to Information

“The Father of India”, Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The real Swaraj will come not by the acquisition of authority by a few, but by the acquisition of capacity by all to resist authority when abused”. He wouldn`t have visualized then that his country would have to make a law to entitle the people to know something as fundamental as seeking information about the development of the country. On 12th October 2005, a new era of the empowerment of the common man in India begins, when this “Right to Information Act” came into existence in our country.  It is applicable everywhere except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

What is Information?

First, we should be able to know what information really means? Information can be defined as “any material in the form of documents and records, opinions and advice”. Information is power, and the government wants to share this power with those that are poor so that they can be enriched with this power. It is basically for this very reason that the Right to Information Act has been self-possessed for us.

What is the Right to Information Act?

The Right to Information Act is sanctioned by the honorable Parliament of India. It gives the citizens of India the access to records of the government including both the Centre and the State Government. This act applies to all parts of India be it state or Union territory, except to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, since it is enclosed under the State level law. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has its own RTI act, which is known as the “Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Act“, which came into existence from the year 2009.

Right to Information

The Right to Information Act is relevant to all the constitutional authorities, including the executive, legislature, and judiciary. Any institution or body established or constituted by an act of Parliament or a state legislature comes under this RTI Act of 2005. Under the furnishing of this Act, any Indian citizen may request information from a ‘public authority’. These public authorities are required to reply within a period of thirty days.

The Right to Information Act gives the citizens the right to:-
1) Inspect work, documents, and records
2) Taking notes, extracts, or certified copies of documents or records
3) Taking certified of materials
4) Acquiring information on disks, tapes, video cassettes or in any other electronic mode or through printouts

Why is there a need for Right to Information Act?

The Supreme Court has observed that Right to Information is a part of Righ to Speech and Expression which is our Fundamental Right.

Democracy is a government for the people. The common man is the master while the government exists to secure this common man. Ours is a representative democracy. We elect our representatives, who then rule us in our name. The Government of India runs on the money paid by us, the people, in the form of taxes. Shouldn’t we have a right to question them on what decisions they take on our behalf? Right to Information Act gives the citizens the right to ask the government about it.

There is no doubt that a silent revolution in the form of Right to Information campaign is sweeping across the country. We are all aware of the corruption that has pervasive in our system. How often have we heard our elders say “it is impossible to get any work done in any government without paying bribes? God help us if we refuse to pay bribes! Unnecessary objections will be raised and we will be running around in circles!”

Hold it! Now we have an option! We don`t need to pay any bribes to any government department anymore to get our legitimate work done. The Right to Information Act give us the authority to know the status of our grievance petition and the name of the officials who have been sitting on our files. This really works wonders!

Thanks to the Right to Information Act, matters which were in cold storage for years and years have been resolved. Now electricity connections, replacement of faulty meters, rectification of faulty water bills and many other works. These works could now be done as soon as the people filed applications to know the status of their applications and the names of officials sitting on their files.

The Right to Information has redefined the relationship between the people and the government. Earlier, people had to run around government officials to get any work done in that area. Not any area! The Right to Information provides such critical information and evidence in the hands of common hand, that our bureaucrats cannot shirk their responsibility and hide in their cozy offices anymore.

This act has been used extensively by the non-governmental organizations, individuals, and even the media to extract official information that affects our day to day lives. Of course, defense secrets and strategic information cannot be made public. But if money has been spent to build a road where none exists, we have the Right to Information Act which can help us fight corruption and prevent misuse of taxpayers money.

As people become more and more aware of the Right to Information Act they can get empowered to ask questions.

“This is inevitable; it is long overdue, and the public has a fundamental right to have access to information”.

Educational Board – ICSE or CBSE!

0

With the new session about to start in a couple of months and with new childrens ready to go to school, the parents must be sure  what is right for their child! Every parent want their child to get a good education. So, the debate in every household begins with what is the right educational board for their child?

Educational Board

There are only two educational board that we have in our country leaving out the state boards – ICSE(Indian Council of Secondary Education) and CBSE(Central Board Of Secondary Education). Both these educational boards are very different regarding the academic sectors in India although the subjects taught in both the boards are same. Which Educational Board you should get your child in? Which one is better – ICSE or CBSE! We, here are going to layout some of the major differences between these two and leave it out to the parents to choose the best one for their child.

ICSE Educational Board

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education(ICSE) came into existence through the University Of Cambridge in India. ICSE is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, which is a private and an all-english medium educational board in India. The syllabus of ICSE is vast and differs from CBSE in terms of its content and volume. There is an ICSE examination towards the end of tenth grade and an ISC examination towards the end of 12th grade. The syllabus followed by the ICSE board is more inclusive and complete when it comes to comprising all the fields with equal importance.

Educational Board

Subjects are taught only in English in ICSE and a candidate who is studying in an ICSE affiliated school can only appear for the examinations. Though ICSE is considered harder than CBSE or any other board in our country but the amount of knowledge an ICSE student gets is immense. Though the knowledge is immense but it may lay extensive burden on a child as he has to study around 13 subjects in sixth or seventh standard as compared to 7-8 subjects to be studied in CBSE.

ICSE is not recognised by the Indian government but is recognized all around the globe, mainly foreign universities and schools as compared to CBSE`s recognition only in the sub-continents. A career in English Literature or English language is more suited for an ICSE student. Students from management or humanities sections find the curriculum under the ICSE board more challenging and interesting with more knowledge being gained. The ICSE students till now had a disadvantage when it came to competitive examinations as the syllabus in those would be that of CBSE board and the ICSE students weren’t able to perform well due to that. But recently the Ministry of Education of India has stated that the competitive exams will now be conducted by a committee comprising of equal number of representatives from each educational board. So, the ICSE students are now no longer at a disadvantage.

CBSE Educational Board

Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) is the main educational board in India when it comes to school level education. This board of education conducts the All India Senior School Certificate Examination every year for the tenth and twelfth grade students. The CBSE syllabus is very easy as compared to all other boards including the state ones due to lesser number of subjects to be studied by the students and its compact structure. CBSE offers both Hindi and English medium as the medium of instructions as well as private students to give CBSE board examinations unlike ICSE.

Educational Board

Instead of studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology as separate subjects in ICSE board, here we have them all under Science as a sole subject and similarly History & Civics and Geography fall under the general umbrella of Social Science compared to two separate subjects in ICSE board. The students of CBSE do not have much practical knowledge as compared to those of ICSE due to its curriculum which focuses on application based. The subjects are approached in a theoretical manner and hardly any emphasis is giving to real-life concepts behind the science. The knowledge provided by CBSE board is limited only to the curriculum and does not go beyond it unlike ICSE where knowledge is beyond the curriculum. Students of CBSE have enjoyed their advantage when it comes to giving competitive examinations especially the IIT exams for undergraduate engineering admissions but they would no longer have that advantage from next year onwards.

Though both boards have an almost equal number of pros and cons, thus the choice of selecting which educational board their child should be admitted, solely depends on parents and their vision for the future of their child.

Why Social Media is a boon for Introverts?

1

Social Media has played a major role in improving introverts life. Today almost everyone uses Facebook, Instagram and many other social networking Apps. We all are different and we all are unique. Social Media has given an opportunity for everyone to feel like celebrity J. Today people spend most of the free time looking at Facebook post/video etc.

I have noticed few days ago that my classmates who were shy, silent are posting pictures/videos which shows their self-confidence. It takes a courage for introverts to be social. Introverts generally are reserved and restrict themselves to certain people, they do not talk much and they prefer to stay alone.

Here are few things Introverts do on social Media and how it helps them

Writing Posts

Many of you must be posting selfies on Facebook/Instagram. People write quotes to reveal their state of mind. They expresses mood, places they are visiting and much more. Introverts normally feel shy if other clicks their pictures. Smart phones today have given this opportunity to clicks pictures with front camera. Everyone clicks pictures and posts it. This is how introverts can take pictures and post it so that people can have a look at it. They feel confident about it.

Hitting Likes/Comments Options

As I have mentioned above introverts do not talk much in person and remain alone. Social media has given chance to them by providing likes/comments features. They can like pictures which says all. They can comment to post. This shows that they saw it and they are in touch with their friends.

Why Social Media is a boon for Introverts?

Using Messengers

Some people like to call and some likes to message. It depends on the context. Here is where messengers can be used. Introverts can message friends/ family members/ relatives whenever they want. It’s not always necessary to call everyone. So they drop a message and stay happy in their zones.

Reading/Watching Videos Online

Watching Videos can be influential/ funny etc. Depending on mood introverts can select the video and play. They can enjoy on their own without having others company. Blogs have become a medium to gain knowledge.

This is how social media has been transforming and changing lives of many introverts and other people all over the world. If you know someone whose life had a positive impact with social media, do let me know in comment section below.

Let me know how Social Media has benefited you.

Mithali Raj – “India`s Pride”

3

In today`s world, when we talk about women’s empowerment, one of the names that come to our mind is of Mithali Raj. She is the role model for many young girls to fight hard against the odds and to take the career that you wish to pursue. She has this tremendous attitude of, “The question isn`t who`s going to let me; it`s who is going to stop me.”

Who is Mithali Raj?

Mithali Dorai Raj is the Indian Women`s Cricket Team Captain in Tests and ODI. She has been regarded as one of the best to have ever played the women`s cricket. This can be taken from the fact that the “The God Of Cricket”, Sachin Tendulkar, himself praised this girl from Telangana as a “tremendous athlete” and one of the best to ever play this game. India might have lost a close World Cup final against England last year but the Indian women’s are being praised not only in India but all over the globe. Mithali Raj, who leads the Indian Women`s Cricket Team was chosen as the Captain of the World Playing XI of 2017.

Early Days of Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj was born on 3rd December 1982 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She like his idol Sachin Tendulkar started playing at the age of 10 and made her debut in the international circuit at the age of 17 against the team of Ireland in the year 1999. She used to practice with boys in the Keyes Girls High School, Secunderabad and used to give them a tough fight and was often praised by them as a wonderful player.

Mithali Raj as an International Cricketer

Mithali Raj would have been the youngest player to have ever played cricket at the age of 14 in the international circuit if she would have made it to the 1997 World Cup when she was in the probable playing eleven. In her debut match itself, she scored a blistering 114 runs. She made her test debut two years later in the year 2001 against South Africa at Lucknow. She broke the world record of scoring the most runs in an innings of a test match of Karen Rolton`s 209* by scoring 214 against England. Her record, however, got broken in the year 2004 by Pakistan`s women cricketer, Kiran Baluch by scoring 242. She used to bowl leg-spin in the early days of his career but now majorly focuses on her batting.

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj played her first Women`s World Cup in the year 2002. Along with the incredible batting skills she also has remarkable leadership qualities. She led India in the 2005 World Cup where Indian team reached the finals for the first time but lost against Australia. This marked a new beginning in women`s cricket in India. Her composure at the crease even during tough times and her confidence along with the ability to score runs at a brisk rate makes her one of the world`s best batsman to have ever played this game. India won her first ever test win and series win against England in England in the year 2006. Later, she went to lead Indian team to win the Asian Cup for the second time without even losing a single game in the entire tournament. She played her 6th World Cup this year in June and led the team for consecutive 5 World Cups. She scored the second highest runs in this World Cup and helped India reached the finals of the World Cup but couldn`t score well in the finals against England. India lost against England in a close finish which might be her last World Cup and she would have wanted to have won this one, the only cup which has stayed away from her in her tremendous career.

When asked about her role as captain of the team in an interview, she said, As with me being the captain, I don`t try to show that I am the dominant force in the team. I try to be one among them. That is how you develop a rapport and be approachable as the captain. With this bunch of girls, I have made an effort to interact more, crack jokes with them and make them feel at ease”.

Mithali`s Records

Mithali Raj is currently the No.1 batsman in the world with a rating of 703. She is the only batsman to have scored 6000+ runs in the women cricket with 6 hundred and 49 fifties in her close to a two-decade career. She has played 186 ODI matches, 63 T20I matches and 10 Tests matches for India. She held the record of scoring the highest number of runs by an individual in a World Cup ODI match when she scored 91* in 104 balls against New Zealand in Women`s World Cup 2005 which was broken in 2005 by Harmanpreet Kaur of India. She holds the record of scoring 7 consecutive half-centuries which is the most by any women cricketer. She holds the record of playing most number of Women`s One-Day International for a team (109). She is the first Indian and 5th women cricket to score more than 1000 runs in World Cups. She is the all-time leading run scorer for India in ODIs, Tests and T20Is. She is known as the “Tendulkar of India`s Women Cricket”.

Awards Mithali Raj won!

Mithali Raj

Mithali received the Arjuna Award in the year 2003 by the Government of India in recognition for her achievements in sports. In the year 2015, she received the Padma Shri which is India`s fourth highest civilian award.

She is and will always be remembered as the one who changed the entire women`s cricket era both on and off the field. Her passion and hard work have already made India one of the strong forces in women’s cricket. But off the field, she has always spoken about gender equality and what else needs to be done to bring the women`s cricket in equal with men’s cricket.
