Abdul Kalam

Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, commonly known as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was the President of India from 2002 to 2007. He was a scientist by profession but later turned into a popular figure and such was his popularity that the then government of NDA proposed him for the Presidentship of the country and was also supported by the opposition party of Indian National Congress for his candidacy. After completing his aeronautical engineering degree, he spent the next four decades of his life as a scientist and a science administrator. He was mainly associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). For his devoted involvement in India’s civilian space programme and military missile development efforts along with his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology, he came to be known as the “Missile Man of India”.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Early Life of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in the year 1931 to a Muslim family in the state of Tamil Nadu. His ancestors were very wealthy but during his early childhood days, his family became poor. He started selling newspapers in order to add-on to his family`s income. He had average grades during his early school life but was often described by his teachers as a hardworking and a bright student who wanted to learn. He used to spend a lot of time studying and especially studying Mathematics. He graduated in Physics from the University of Madras in the year 1954. In 1955, he joined Madras Institute of Technology to study aerospace engineering. He would have accomplished his dream of becoming a fighter pilot had he got one position higher in the qualifiers. He was placed ninth in the qualifiers but to his discomfort, there were only eighth positions available in the IAF.

In the 70s, Dr. Kalam also became the director of two projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant, whose aim was to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV programme. The then Union Cabinet disapproved these projects, but the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi`s faith in Kalam made her grant secret funds for these aerospace projects through her discretional powers. His research and educational leadership brought him great praise and stature during the 1980s, which triggered the administration to commence an advanced missile programme under his directorship. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam played a crucial role in the development of missiles such as Agni, an intermediary range ballistic missile, and Prithvi, the prudent surface-to-surface missile.

How Industry Dominates Newbies

0

It’s harsh but true some of you might have faced this or you might face It in future, at times industry dominates you for no reason. Let me give you how this whole process is carried out or where actually you may face this domination.

Industry that I am talking about can be MNC’s or Person belonging to such big company or an experienced person having served in company and now is a founder of the company.

Case 1

MNC collaborating with SME

In this case today many MNC(Multi National Company) outsource some works to SME(Small Medium Enterprise) as they quote lesser price compared to big company. MNC people target SME due to many reasons e.g. its costs less amount when they outsource the work, they get product delivery on time etc. Few MNC take this advantage and try to dominate small companies. They think the TAG itself is enough to threaten small companies. MNC do not pay on time to vendors and the reason they give is” you know how our process is, it takes too long to for payment clearance”. Even after working damn hard they do not pay on time. They will ask to deliver certain task within an hour which small companies still do even if that task may take a day, small companies work even after office hours still they do not get what they deserve.

Some MNC people are hired from top B schools, so they normally do not have practical knowledge and then they get an opportunity to develop new products. First of all they will ask SME to provide suggestions and work on it. Then they interrupt in between and ruin the whole product. At the end they blame SME.

This is what happening in our market today. People do not have much idea about it.
It’s not only about MNC, It’s about people who are handling and continuing the chain, The founder does not even know what is happening in his company.

How Industry Dominates Newbies

Case 2

Experienced Industry Professional (Owner of a company) collaborating with Young Professional (Working as freelancer)

Some experienced people open a company and then outsource few works. Few of them contact their network, juniors, or register at certain website from where they can hire people to do work.

Few of them take their juniors for granted they will get the work done and in the end they will delay in payments. As they are hiring freelancers, generally they do not have contract so clients delay the payments. Then they will teach you how to deliver work and take follow-up. As you won’t get payment on time and you have been told that you will get payment by certain date and once you do not get it, what you will do? You will remind them right? Every time when you do not get you will call /email/text them.

This people will clear your payments and in the end they will blame you for not giving work as per expectations and on time. At the end its will ruin your relationship with them.

All this may or may not happen to you. Remember to work with people whom you think can be trusted and who will pay you on time.

Sometimes you get to know your seniors actual attitude in terms of professionalism when you get an opportunity to work for/with them.

To all the students or fresher working in a company here is my request always be honest and always communicate with other in a way that do not hurt someone as you will be someday at senior level. You are the one who can stop this domination when it’s your turn to lead the company. Learn from your mistakes, experience and move-on in life.

Do let me know if you have faced any such domination in past!

Thank you!

5 Amazing Cleaning Hacks

0

Cleaning the house is almost like fighting a battle. You must have learnt many cleaning techniques from your parents and grandparents. But here, I bring the easiest cleaning hacks for you which will make cleaning very easy for you!

5 Amazing Cleaning Hacks

1. How to clean your dishwasher?

Image result for Cleaning dishwasher

Pull the bottom rack out and examine the drain area and make sure there are no hard chunks that can plug the drain, cause damage to the pump or scratch dishes. You’d be surprised at what dishwasher repairmen find – bones, crab shells, glass shards, and even small pieces of gravel! Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher. The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitize, and help remove the musty odor.Using the hottest water setting, run the dishwasher through a cycle. The dishwasher should be empty except for the cup of vinegar. After the vinegar cycle finishes, sprinkle a handful of baking soda around the bottom of the dishwasher and run it through a short cycle using the hottest water. The baking soda will help further deodorize your dishwasher and help in removing any stains. If you have problems with mold and mildew, add ½-1 cup bleach in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a full cycle.

2. How to make your own homemade deodorizing disks?

Image result for Homemade deodorizing disks

Add a 3 to 4 drops of any essential oil to approximately 1/2 cup water. Pour the water/oil mixture into baking soda and mix well. Continue to add water until you have a THICK paste. Divide the mixture into your molds or muffin tin cups. Let it dry for 24 to 48 hours until completely hardened.

3. How to get the stinky smell out of the bath towels?

Image result for clean bath towels

Put the offending towels in your washing machine and fill with HOT water! You might want to turn up your hot water heater temporarily for this, or I usually just boil some water on the stove and add it to the load. Leave the towels in the washer after the vinegar wash cycle is done. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the washer, and run through another wash cycle with HOT water. Finally, make sure to dry your towels THOROUGHLY in the dryer or outside on the clothesline. This one-two punch of vinegar and baking soda should take care of the problem 9 times out of 10. If you are still experiencing bad smells or poor absorbency afterwards, try repeating the same process above until it is gone. (I should also note that I am not recommending using this method every time you wash your towels. Just use it when you start to notice that “funky” smell, or that the towels don’t seem to be absorbing the way they should.

4. How to unclog a toilet?

Image result for toilet seatIf the toilet looks like it’s about to overflow and you want to avoid that (which you do), then you should close the toilet flapper as quickly as possible to prevent any more water from getting into the toilet bowl. If you really want to be safe, you can also shut off the water supply to the toilet so no more water can get into the tank or bowl. (The handle to shut off the water is usually behind the toilet, close to the floor.) Now, add a few cups of hot water to the toilet bowl before you attempt plunging, and you may not have to plunge at all. The heat helps to melt the fats in the “clog” & makes it more likely to flush. Let the hot water sit for a few minutes, and then use a plunger to vigorously push and pull water through the hole in the toilet bowl. This could come in very handy if you’re facing clogged toiled situation at a friend’s house and you can’t find a plunger in the bathroom. If you can’t find a bucket in the bathroom, look for a wastebasket. Empty out the wastebasket and fill it up with hot water from the sink or shower. Pour the hot water down the toilet carefully and the clog should be fixed in no time. (And put the wastebasket or bucket back where you found it!)

5. How to remove burnt, stuck on foods from your pots and pans?

Sprinkle a cup or two of baking soda in the bottom of the scorched pan and add just enough water to cover. Simmer for 15 minutes to 1/2 hour, repeating if necessary. The most crusted on black burned mess will fall right off leaving a sparkling pan. Ordinary table salt will work in a pinch as well.

The weirdest festivals in the world

0

The world is full of amusements. It always presents you with many astonishing facts. Some festivals celebrated around the world are so weird that we cannot even imagine that such festivals exist! Here are a few of them.

Wife Carrying World Championship — Finland

The weirdest festivals in the world

Wife carrying or eukonkanto in Finnish, is a sport in Sonkajärvi, Finland, originated in 1992. The origin of this tradition is not known exactly. But today, wife carrying is practiced around the world. Participants are allowed to carry their wives in a variety of ways — including piggyback, fireman’s carry or Estonian-style, where the wife hangs upside-down with her legs around her husband’s shoulders. They carry her across a 253.5-meter track riddled with obstacles. The prize is awarded based on the wife’s weight in beer.

The Baby Jumping Festival — Castrillo de Murcia, Spain

The weirdest festivals in the world

Known in Spanish as El Colacho, this festival happens sixty days after Easter. The Baby Jumping Festival is a baptismal ceremony wherein babies who were born over the last year are absolved of sin. The religious custom dates back to the early 1600s. Men dressed in traditional “devilish” clothing terrorize the crowd before running down the street and jumping over the babies who have been carefully laid on pillows. No injuries have been reported till date. But the Catholic higher-ups frown upon the ritual.

Mud Festival — Boryeong, South Korea

The weirdest festivals in the world

This annual festival occurs in July in the village of Boryeong, 200 kilometers south of Seoul. The festival is not historic by any means — the first one took place in 1998 — and it was originally created as a marketing event for Boryeong mud cosmetics. The mud from the Boryeong mud flats is considered rich in natural minerals and is used to make beauty products. The two-week promotional event is now popular with locals and tourists alike. Notable festivities include a mud pool, mudslides, mud prison and mud skiing.

World Toe Wrestling Championships — England, UK

The weirdest festivals in the world

The location of the World Toe Wrestling Championships varies, but the practice originated in the village of Wetton, Staffordshire, in the 1970s. It was born out of the desire for the UK to have its own championship in some type of sport. Just like arm wrestling, two people go up against one another in each match, which is won by the best of three. Players can only take part in the tournament after a thorough toe examination by a qualified nurse.

La Tomatina — Buñol, Valencia, Spain

The weirdest festivals in the world

The Spanish Tomato Festival has run annually in August during a weeklong celebration in Buñol since 1945, when a rowdy crowd took the tomatoes from a vegetable stall and started a food fight. The hour-long tomato fight used up an estimated 145,000 kg of tomatoes in 2015. Since 2013 La Tomatina has been a ticketed event to limit participants to just 20,000. Before then, up to 50,000 guests had been reportedly involved in the food fight. After an hour of free-for-all tomato tossing, trucks spray down the streets and many participants wash themselves in the pool of tomatoes.

Air Guitar World Championship — Oulu, Finland

The weirdest festivals in the world

The Air Guitar World Championship has been held annually in Oulu, Finland, since 1996 as part of the Oulu Music Video Festival. What started as a joke has turned into a serious draw for the event. Participants must play air guitar on stage in two rounds with each lasting at least one minute (one song is chosen by the participant and one by the organizer), they must play air guitar only (no drums, piano, etc.) and are scored out of 6.0. The ideology behind the event is a simple one: ‘Wars would end and all the bad things would go away if everyone just played air guitar.’

So, if you are on a world tour, make sure that you definitely visit these places and enjoy the festivals. Make a bag full of memories and cherish them for your lifetime.

Dabbawalas – The Lunch Delivery Men!

0

Home – made food always has a special impact on one’s physical and mental health. But in today’s world, people do not have enough time to enjoy the delicious home food. They are always in a busy and hectic lifestyle where they spend lots and lots of money just for food. But they never get that satisfaction, which the home-made food gives. They just have to adjust with that hotel food and fill their tummies.

The Dabbawalas

The dabbawalas are those who constitute a lunchbox delivery system that delivers hot lunch from homes and restaurants to people at work in India, especially in Mumbai. The lunchboxes(dabbas) are collected in the late morning and delivered to the respective persons using bicycles and railway trains, and returned empty by afternoon. Meal suppliers in Mumbai also pay them to ferry lunchboxes with ready-cooked meals from central kitchens to customers and back .

Birth of the Idea

About 125 years ago, a Parsi banker wanted to have home cooked food in office and gave this responsibility to the first ever Dabbawala. Many people liked the idea and the demand for Dabba delivery increased. It was all informal and individual effort in the beginning. But in 1890, the visionary Mahadeo Havaji Bachche saw the opportunity and started the lunch delivery service in its present team-delivery format with 100 Dabbawalas.

Later, a charitable trust was registered in 1956 under the name of Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Trust. The commercial arm of this trust was registered in 1968 as Mumbai Tiffin Box Supplier’s Association. The current president of the association is Bhau Saheb Karbande and Subhash Talekar is the spokesperson.

Dabbawalas - The Lunch Delivery Men!

The efficient coding system

As the city grew, the demand for Dabba delivery grew too. The coding system created during the initial stage is still prominent in 21st century. Initially it was simple colour coding but now since Mumbai is widely spread metro with 3 local train routes, coding has also evolved into alpha numeric characters.

Lunch boxes are marked in several ways:

  1. Abbreviations for collection points
  2. Colour code for starting station
  3. Number for destination station
  4. Markings for handling dabbawala at destination, building and floor

A colour-coding system identifies the destination and recipient. Each dabbawala is required to contribute a minimum capital in kind, in the form of two bicycles, a wooden crate for the tiffins, white cotton kurta-pyjamas, and the white Gandhi cap. Each month there is a division of the earnings of each unit. Fines are imposed for alcohol, tobacco, being out of uniform, and absenteeism.

A collecting dabbawala, usually on bicycle, collects dabbas either from a worker’s home or from the dabba makers. As many of the carriers are of limited literacy (the average literacy of Dabbawalas is that of 8th grade), the dabbas have some sort of distinguishing mark on them, such as a colour or group of symbols.

The dabbawala then takes them to a sorting place, where he and other dabbawalas sort the lunch boxes into groups. The grouped boxes are put in the coaches of trains, with markings to identify the destination of the box. The markings include the railway station to unload the boxes and the destination building delivery address. Some modern infrastructure improvements such as the Navi Mumbai Metro are not used in the supply chain, as cabins do not have the capacity for hundreds of tiffins.

At each station, boxes are handed over to a local dabbawala, who delivers them. The empty boxes are collected after lunch or the next day and sent back to the respective houses. The dabbawalas also allow for delivery requests through SMS.

Where do these dabbawalas come from?

Most dabbawalas are related to each other, belong to the Varkari sect of Maharashtra, and come from the same small village near Pune. Tiffin distribution is suspended for five days each March as they go home for the annual village festival.

Each dabbawala, regardless of role, is paid around 8,000 rupees per month. Between 1,75,000 and 2,00,000 lunch boxes are moved each day by 4,500 to 5,000 dabbawalas. They are self-employed. The union initiation fee is 30,000 rupees, which guarantees a 5,000-rupee monthly income and a job for life. The 150 rupee a month fee provides for delivery six days a week.

It is frequently claimed that dabbawalas make less than one mistake in every six million deliveries! However, this is only an estimation and is not from a rigorous study.

However thanks to these dabbawalas who struggle a lot just to help people have their delicious home food. It’s only because of them that the Mumbai waalas are enjoying their work with yummy food!!

Meditation – For a Balanced Mind

0

With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health. We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.

Spiritual Practice

Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the main purpose of meditation. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation. Eventually, we will be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

True Happiness

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful, we will be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we will experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful, we will find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation, our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we will experience a purer and purer form of happiness.

Meditation - For a Balanced Mind

Usually we find it difficult to control our mind. It seems as if our mind is like a balloon in the wind – blown here and there by external circumstances. If things go well, our mind is happy, but if they go badly, it immediately becomes unhappy. Such fluctuations of mood arise because we are too closely involved in the external situation. We are like a child making a sandcastle who is excited when it is first made, but who becomes upset when it is destroyed by the incoming tide.

Training in Meditation

By training in meditation, we create an inner space and clarity that enables us to control our mind regardless of the external circumstances. Gradually we develop mental equilibrium, a balanced mind that is happy all the time, rather than an unbalanced mind that oscillates between the extremes of excitement and despondency.

If we train in meditation systematically, eventually we will be able to eradicate from our mind the delusions that are the causes of all our problems and suffering. In this way, we will come to experience a permanent inner peace, known as “liberation” or “nirvana”. Then, day and night in life after life, we will experience only peace and happiness.

Meditation is that which gives you deep rest. Meditation is an activity in which the practitioner just sits and allows the mind to dissolve. The rest in meditation is deeper than the deepest sleep that you can ever have. When the mind becomes free from agitation, is calm and serene and at peace, meditation happens.
