Dish Name: Potato Nuggets 

General Information about Potato Nuggets:- 

  • Total time required:- 25 minutes to 30 minutes
  • Preparation time:- 5 minutes to 10 minutes

List of Ingredients required to make Potato Nuggets:- (4 servings)  

  • 2 boiled and grated potatoes
  • ½ tablespoon of ginger and garlic paste
  • ½ tablespoon of chili flakes
  • 3 tablespoons of grated cheddar cheese
  • ½ tablespoon of mixed herbs
  • ¼ teaspoon of crushed pepper
  • Salt as per taste
  • ½ teaspoon of chat masala
  • 2 tablespoons of finely chopped coriander leaves
  • ¼ bread crumbs
  • Oil

For the coating 

  • ¼ cup of cornflour
  • ¼ teaspoon of pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ¼ cup of water

Steps to make Potato Nuggets:

Step 1: 

Put the boiled and grated potato in a medium-sized bowl and then add the dry ingredients one by one. First, add the chili flakes, then, cheddar cheese, mixed herbs, crushed pepper, salt, chat masala, coriander leaves, and the bread crumbs along with the ginger garlic paste. After this mix them properly and continue until the mixture forms a dough and then keep it aside. 

Step 2: 

Now while the dough is sitting, let’s prepare the mixture for the coating. Take ¼ cup of cornflour along with ¼ teaspoon of pepper and salt. Then mix them with ¼ cup of water (you might a bit more water).  

Step 3:

Put some oil in your palm and take some potato mixture in your hand and give it a cylindrical shape nicely. Then put it in the cornflour mixture and after this put it in some bread crumbs (for making the outer layer crispy).

Again dip the coated nugget in the cornflour mixture and then in the bread crumbs (for making the coating proper). Follow this same process for the other nuggets as well.  

Step 4: 

Heat some oil in a pan on medium flame. When the oil gets heated fully put few nuggets and keep stirring them occasionally. After they are medium fried take them out and put them on a plate with tissue paper in order to absorb the excess oil. Fry the others as well. After all of them are fried, fry them all together, again, so that they remain crispy for a longer period of time.  

Step 5: 

Put them on a plate nicely and serve them hot with tomato sauce and salad and enjoy!

List of Ingredients to make Potato Cheese Balls:- 

  • 3 boiled and mashed potatoes (medium-sized)  
  • ½ cup of cubed mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup chopped onion, capsicum, green chili, coriander
  • ½ tablespoon chili flakes, oregano, or mixed herbs
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil

For the coating 

  • 2 tablespoons of cornflour
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • Water  

Steps to make Potato Cheese Balls:

Step 1: 

Take a medium-sized or a big mixing bowl and add the potatoes and mash then. Then mix the mashed potatoes with the onions, capsicums, green chili, coriander, and add the chili flakes, oregano. After this add the salt carefully and form a dough.  

Step 2: 

Keep the cup of mozzarella cheese in front of you and after oiling your palm take some mashed potato mixture. Make a hole in the mixture and put one cube of cheese inside the hole. Then make a proper round shape and keep it aside on another plate.  

Step 3: 

Make the mixture of cornflour, by adding the cornflour, water, and salt according to taste in a small bowl, and mix properly. Then put a plate of bread crumbs as well. Then slowly dip the potato balls in the mixture and coat them with the bread crumbs. Repeat the process for the second time as well so that the coating is done properly. Prepare the other balls like this.  

Step 4: 

Heat some oil in a non-stick frying pan. Keep the oven at medium flame. When the oil gets heated fully put few potato balls and keep stirring them occasionally. After they are medium fried take them out and put them on a plate with tissue paper. Fry the others as well. After all, are fried then fry them all together so that they remain crispy for a long time.

Step 5: 

Put them on a plate nicely and you can garnish them with coriander or grated cheese. Serve them crispy with tomato sauce and salad.

Steps to make Crispy Potato Fingers:

Step 1: 

In a medium-sized mixing bowl add the potatoes and mash or grate them. After that, add the dry ingredients one by one. Add garlic and onion powder, salt as per taste, chili flakes, coriander leaves, and bread crumbs. Mix them well and prepare a nice and soft mixture. 

Step 2: 

Oil your palm first and then take some of the potato fillings. Make nice finger-like shapes. After this is done you can refrigerate them for about 15 minutes to 20 minutes. This will help in improving the shape of the potato fingers and enhance the texture.

Step 3: 

While the finger is in the refrigerator you can make the cornflour slurry. Also do keep some bread crumbs and maida on two plates aside. In a bowl take little water and 2 teaspoons of cornflour and mix them really well.  

Step 4: 

After 15 minutes take each potato finger and coat them with maida and bread crumbs. Then dip them into the cornflour slurry and keep them on another plate aside. After all the fingers are ready keep them again in the refrigerator for another 10 minutes to 15 minutes before frying them deeply.

Step 5: 

For frying them heat the oil in a pan. When the oil is heated completely then put the fingers gently in the oil, 2 to 3 fingers in batches. After they turn golden brown put them on tissue paper on a plate. The tissue paper will absorb the excess oil.

Step 6: 

Serve them hot and crispy with mayonnaise or tomato sauce and enjoy!

Step 1.

Take a medium-sized bowl. After washing the chicken properly, season it with salt and pepper according to taste. After that add regarding powder.  Mix it properly and keep the bowl aside.

Step 2.

Take a pan and heat it on medium flame. Sear the chicken thigh fillets. Continue searing until it turns golden brown and is cooked through properly.

Step 3.

After the searing on opposite sides is complete, cover the pan with a lid and continue cooking. Check once every 5 minutes. Drain the excess oil from the pan. Just keep 2 to 3 spoons of the latter in the pan so that it helps in enhancing the rich taste of the sauce.

Step 4.

After the chicken is cooked through to then add the crushed garlic between the chicken. Try on low flame for about 30 seconds. This will give the chicken a light garlic fragrant. 

Step 5.

Now in order to prepare the sauce in the pan add honey, chicken broth, white vinegar,  and finally the soya sauce. 

Step 6.

Increase the heat from lower to higher medium and continue to stir slowly. Continue until the sauce becomes a bit thick. Keep stirring for about 4 to 5 minutes. 

Step 7.

Ingredients required to make Chicken Clear Soup

  • 300 grams to 400 grams of chicken with bones.
  • ¼ to ⅓ finely chopped onion.
  • 3 to 4 smashed whole garlic cloves.
  • ¼ cup of chopped carrots (small-sized)
  • 1 or 2 bay leaves.
  • 2 springs thyme.
  • 4 cups of water
  • Salt (according to taster)
  • ¼ teaspoon of freshly powdered black pepper.

Instructions to make Chicken Clear Soup

Step 1.

Wash the chicken well with normal temperature water. 

Step 2. 

Now add the chicken to a medium-sized pressure cooker. Add the onion, smashed garlic,  chopped carrot, bay leaves, and the sprigs thyme, one by one (Make sure to follow the quantity according to the list). Let it be on low flame for 30 seconds.

Step 3.

Add the water. Boil the whole content for 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 4.

Add Salt and Pepper according to taste, stir it a bit. Then close the lid,  and put the pressure cooker on high heat. After 2 to 3 whistles, simmer the heat. Let it cook for another 10 minutes on low flame.

Step 5.

After 10 minutes, turn off the oven and wait till the pressure cooker naturally releases the pressure.

Step 6.

Open the lid and continue stirring.

Step 7 (Optional)

Take 5 tablespoons of the soup water in a bowl and add one teaspoon of cornflour. Mix it well with the help of a fork or a whisk. Mix it with the soup and continue stirring. This will help in adding an extra thickness to the soup and enhance its texture. You might need to add salt again.

Step 8.

After some time strain the soup using a strainer. Take the chicken pieces out and shred them into extremely small pieces and discard the bones. Add the chicken to the soup again.

Step 9.

Garnish with pepper, salt, butter, and finely chopped spring onion greens.

Make sure to serve it hot. You may also serve it with garlic bread or normal toast.

Ingredients for making Crispy Chicken Pakoda or Pakora

  • 250 grams to 300 grams of chicken (diced in medium cubes)
  • 1 medium crushed onion.
  • 1 to 2 chopped or crushed onions (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of ginger-garlic paste.
  • ¾ to 1 teaspoon of red chili powder (according to taster)
  • ¾ teaspoon of garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon of turmeric powder (optional)
  • Salt (according to taste)
  • 2 sprigs of curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon of mint leaves 
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • 5 to 6 tablespoons of besan
  • 3 tablespoons of cornflour
  • 1 egg white (whisked)
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons of water (depending on your requirement)
  • Refined oil or Olive oil (for deep frying)

Steps to make Crispy Chicken Pakoda or Pakora

Step 1.

Take a medium-sized bowl and one by one add besan, Cornflour, chili powder,  turmeric powder, garam masala,  and salt according to the measures given. 

Step  2.

Mix it properly and check if you require any amount of salt or Chilli powder. If you do add according to the requirement.

Step 3.

Now add the ginger-garlic paste, smashed onion, curry leaves, coriander leaves, and the green chilies.

Step 4.

Take the small or medium-size diced chicken cubes and add them to the mixing bowl.

Step 5.

Add the egg white and 2 spoons of refined oil and mix well. 

Step 6.

After mixing everything properly add a small amount of water. Just take care that you are not adding excess water as the mixture needs to remain thick. 

Frying the Crispy Chicken Pakoda or Pakora

Step 7.

Heat the oil in a medium-sized pan for deep frying.  

Step 8. 

One by one slide the chicken pieces.

Step 9.

Do not fry many at the same time, and make sure to give each enough space to get fried and cooked properly.

Step 10.

After 2 to 3 minutes flip it over to the other side and wait till both sides turn golden-brown and crisp.

Step 11.

Use an oil strainer to filter the pakoras out of the oil. You can use tissue paper to soak the excess oil from them.

Make sure to serve them hot and enjoy this appetizing snack along with spicy green chutney and masala tea.

 The city of Hampi is not only an architectural symbol but also a reminder of the great Vijayanagara empire. The Empire was defeated by the equation formed by the Muslim sultanates and the capital city was conquered.  many of the architectures were destroyed by the armies of the Sultanate,  believe to be in 1565. Colin Mackenzie, the Great British interpreter, and a  Scottish army officer was the person who founded the city of Hampi. 

Located near the Tungabhadra river, this city since ancient times was a great attraction for several travelers, especially the Portuguese and Europeans. The city is considered to be the second-largest one, in the medieval era after Beijing.

Even in ancient times, this city was ahead by many generations. It had well-organized trading markets, farms,  and numerous temples with splendid architecture and designs.

Moreover,  Hampi is considered to be India’s one of the richest cities at that time. It attracted several well influential traders from Persia and Portugal.

How did Hampi get its name-

There is an interesting story behind the naming of the city. Hampi or as traditionally known as “Pampa-kshetra”, or “Bhaskara-kshetra” was derived from one of the names of the Hindu Goddess Parvati. The name was Pampa.  

The story is according to the mythology that, Goddess Parvati wanted to marry Lord Shiva. She was actually the incarnations of Sati. In the beginning, when her parents got to know about her wish discouraged her. But she anyways persuaded that.

Lord Shiva was always lost in the world of meditation and for this reason, Goddess Parvati appeal to God for help in order to get his attention. Lord Indra sent Kamadev,  who is considered to be the Hindu God of love to awake the lord from his deep meditation.

But when Kama shot an arrow of desire at Lord Shiva he was extremely enraged and he opened his third eye in his forehead and burnt Lord Kama to ashes.

But still, the Goddess didn’t lose her hope And she herself starts living like an asceticism in order to attract his interest. 

It is Courage the Goddess Shiva disguised himself and tried to discourage her by explaining the weaknesses. But Parvati refused to listen to him and stayed stubborn. After saying so much determination love and affection for him,  from Parvati,  he finally accepted her.  later after the marriage of God and Goddess, Kama was also brought back to life. 

It is believed that Parvati persuaded her Yogini lifestyle on the Hemakuta hill, which is now part of Hampi.

Marriage is considered to be one of the oldest Institutions of Hindus all over the world. It has an extremely Important status in their social life. 

Marriage is considered to be a social institution.

Marriage is also sometimes referred to as wedlock or matrimony. The parties after the marriage ceremony are called each other‘ Spouse’. The female gets the status of being the wife of the groom, whereas the male gets the status of being the husband of the bride. 

This social institution helps in establishing relations with each other’s families. The children which are born out of this union are considered to be Legitimate. They get the legal right of succession according to the law.

Marriage helps in the further establishment of several kinds of rights and obligations on each other.  

History of Hindu Marriage

The very first time where this whole concept of Hindu Marriage was stated was in the holy scriptures of the Veda and Smriti. Since the old times, it is considered to be the “Holy union”. 

Caste Division

According to the manusmriti, there is a division of the caste system amongst the Hindus. There are several castes. The major and prominent ones are as follows:

  • Brahmin
  • Sudras
  • Kstariya
  • Vyaishyas

Types of Hindu Marriages

There are has been various types of marriage that have been observed over the past centuries. A few of them are still practiced nowadays, but if have become obsolete. The following are the types of Hindu marriage:

  • Brahma
  • Daiva
  • Prajapati
  • Asura
  • Gandharva
  • Rakshasa
  • Paishacha

The Ceremonies of a Valid Hindu marriage 

There are certain rituals and Customs which are to be followed and fulfilled by both parties of the marriage to make it a valid one. 

Apart from all the rituals, the most important one is the “Saptapadi”. It means taking 7 steps together before and around the sacred fire. These steps are meant to be walked together by the bride and the bridegroom. The marriage is declared to be valid and complete once the seventh step is taken.

The bridegroom gives red sindur on the forehead of the bride at the end of all the rituals. In some cases, the groom gives the bride a necklace, called mangalsutra. It is recognized as a symbol of the union of the two and it is also considered to be a symbol of good luck. Both of them have great spiritual and auspicious values.

The whole marriage ceremony is done with the help of a Vedic priest.

Conditions of a Hindu Marriage

Under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955, there are a plethora of conditions that are necessary for making a Hindu Marriage valid. Those essential conditions have been stated in Section 5 and section 7 of the said act.

According to Section 5 of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955,  a Hindu Marriage will only be valid if both the parties are Hindus by religion. But if any one of them belongs to any other religion for example Christianity or Muslim then that particular marriage will not be a valid Hindu marriage.

The other conditions as stated in the Act which needs to be fulfilled for a Hindu Marriage to be valid are as follows:

  1. At the time of marriage, neither of the parties should have a spouse living.
  2. Neither of the parties should be of unsound mind.
  3. Neither party should be incapable of giving valid consent during the marriage.
  4. Neither party e E has been subject to recurrent attacks of epilepsy or Insanity.
  5. Neither party e should be suffering from any kind of mental disorder.
  6. Neither party should be incapable of the procreation of children.
  7. The parties should not be within the degrees of prohibited relationship unless the custom or usage governing each of them permits marriage between the two.
  8. Both the parties should not be “Sapindas”.

The Five Essential Conditions for a valid Hindu marriage

 The five essential conditions of a valid Hindu marriage are laid down in section 5 of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 are stated and explained as follows:

Monogamy

Monogamy is explained in section 5 clause 1 of the said act. This provision prohibits all kinds of bigamy. The marriage which will be happening should be monogamous in all forms. 

Under the said act a person can marry very early only if he or she is either and married or a widow or a widower or a divorcee. If during the marriage either party has a living spouse for the earlier marriage has not been set aside already then the later marriage will be declared as void. A bigamous is declared marriage is Null and void And whoever is performing it will be punished. 

Age Restrictions 

As stated in section 5 clause 3 of the said Act,  there is an age restriction for a Hindu Marriage to be declared valid.  at the time of the marriage, it is compulsory for the bridegroom to have completed the age of 21 years. Whereas, in the case of the bride it is necessary that she has completed the age of 18 years.

If this restriction is not followed then the marriage will be either void or voidable.

Mental Health and Capacity 

According to Section 5 clause 2 of the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 the parties to the marriage,  should not suffer from unsoundness of mind, insanity, or any kind of mental disorder. 

If one of the parties who solemnize the marriage is suffering from any kind of mental disorder as described in the clause,  the marriage will be voidable at the option of the other party.

Degrees of Prohibited Relationship

For Hindu marriage to be valid,  the parties to the marriage should not come within the degrees of the prohibited relationship under any circumstances. 

Two persons are said to be within the degrees of prohibited relationship if the following situation arises:

  1. If either one of the parties is having the relationship of a father-daughter or son-mother.
  2. If one was the wife or husband of linear ascendant or descendant of the other.
  3.  If one was the wife of the brother or of the father’s on mother’s brother or of the grandfather’s or grandmother’s brother of the other.
  4. If the two are brother and sister, or aunt and nephew, or uncle and niece, or even the children of sister and brother,  or of two brothers or two sisters.

If a marriage is found to be within the degrees of prohibited relationship then it will be void. But there are some exceptions in this case. If a custom permits any kind of marriage within the prohibited relationship then it will be allowed. 

Sapinda Relationship

The parties to the marriage should not be related to each other as Shapindas does under any circumstances. A marriage between two Shapindas is declared void.
