The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

0

The North-Eastern part of India consisting mainly of the seven sisters is a much neglected or stereotyped part of India, along with any other state. The general attitude among the public is that of ignorance or complacence. The recent racist attacks in Bengaluru are befitting examples. The problems faced by the North Eastern states are numerous because of the ethnic diversity. This article elaborates on the Bodo conflict in Assam.Violence is not something new to Assam. Assam has been marked by severe violence for decades. The inspiration for the Bodo movement came from the Assam movement. The nature, protest styles and ideology of the Bodoland movement have similarities with that of the Assam movement. The Bodos are the most significant part of the vast Bodo-Kachari group of Mongoloid origin living in the State of Assam. The Bodos constitute a significant proportion in the districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Darrang and Sonitpur.

The Bodo movement resulted because of the uneven and distorted process of development that took place in Assam, during the colonial and post-colonial phases which failed to meet the popular expectations of the Asamiya nationality as well as the rising expectations of the smaller nationalities, including the Bodos. From the following decades of the 1980s, Bodo movement had become known for the perpetration of horrific violence. A pause to this conflict came with the memorandum of settlement between the Assam Government and The Bodo Liberation Tigers which was signed on 10th February 2003. The MOS resulted in the formation of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD). However, the BTAD structure and functioning was undemocrative and unrepresentative. The BTAD includes the districts of Kokrajhar, Baska, Udalguri and Chirang. The BTAD is governed by a council comprising of 46 members, out of which 30 will be reserved for the STs, five for non-tribal communities, five open for all communities and six to be nominated by the governor of Assam. But the flaw in the system is that BTAD consists of only 25% of Bodos whereas the non-Bodo population make up for the rest 75%.

The question one can raise is, who are the real victims of the Bodo violence? The probable answer would be the Muslims and the other tribal communities. In the attack that took place on 5 August 2016 in the Kokrajhar district of Assam, a Bodo dominated area, which killed 16 people and left 20 injured, the Bodo militants wore kurtas and covered their faces to make themselves appear as Jihadis. The plot was foiled when one of the militants was killed by the security forces and identified as the leader of a Bodo militant group. The genocidal features of the Bodo violence have larger implications than imagined. In the midst of the turmoil of border fences, census numbers, and category of D-voters are the Bengali speaking Muslim community. Although this clash had previously been based on ethnic and linguistic markers involving Assamese and Bengali-speaking people, the state has increasingly deployed religion- based rhetoric of Hindu-Muslim communalism to characterise such tensions in recent times. These Muslim minorities pose an existential threat to the Assamese people, land and security.

The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

In such sensitive issues, the role of media becomes even more important as the information provided by media shape the popular opinion. Blatantly labelled as Bangladeshis, the Muslims were falsely accused as infiltration into Bodo areas by the Assamese media. The media by doing this justifies the violence of the Bodos.

The government, however, has taken no significant steps to change the situation in Assam. For instance, the culprits of Nellie massacre of 1983, a single culprit has not been prosecuted till date. Similar is the situation after the Bomb blast of Ganeshguri which took the lives over a hundred people. The main convict RajanDaimary is not in police custody. The successive governments have failed miserably and the issue has become a tug of war between political parties to gain power.

The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

Some of the feasible solutions to this crisis could be to increase the pressure of the security operations that has forced the militants to mix with the civilians. The security forces have to put more pressure in identifying the militants. The government and the civil society should be focussed on bridging the fissures and hatred between the Bodos and non-Bodos.In the context of Assam, the Muslim minorities are largely agricultural, underrepresented in government jobs and politics and yet there appear to be layers of fear acting on the minds of the majority who construct a perceived threat by the minority. The government instead of building on this fear for vote bank politics should fix on the loopholes, Reforms have to be initiated in the BTAD and BTC for a representative democracy.

TOP 5 SONGS OF ED SHEERAN

0

I think there are hardly any music lovers who don’t know “Ed Sheeran”. His new album “Divide” has already conquered the music world within a few days and four of his songs are on the Top Ten of Music charts continuously for past three weeks. Beyond all his achievements, Sheeran is a superb storyteller and his songs offer emotional, contemplative portrayal of relationships that will often make you go spellbound.

Let’s check out the top 5 Ed Sheeran songs:

  1. SHAPE OF YOU

Since its release in January 2017, Shape of You has been downloaded over 488.500 times and has notched up 77.43 million streams. This is one of the first two singles released before the official release of his album Divide. This is one of his catchiest songs ever. This song stands out from his usual ones due to its super addictive catchy beats. However, I think the lyrical video is much more thrilling than the official one.

  1. THINKING OUT LOUD

Thinking Out Loud was also the first ever single to spend an entire year within the Top 40 without leaving it. It’s Ed’s top seller and his most streamed, notching up 113 million streams. The passionate slow dance goes so well with the romantic song and magnificently portrays his amazing talent. However this song was a slow burner, it claims the longest climb to number one position ever. It hits the number one position after 19 weeks in Top 40.

  1. PHOTOGRAPH

This is the final single from Ed’s second album x that peaked at Number 15 upon full release in summer 2015. This song is so touching, passionate and heartfelt and is bound to bring out the emotional version inside you. This song explains how love, memories and relationships are braided in such a wonderful way.

  1. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL (PAEAN)

This song once again proved that Sheeran is the King of sentimental love songs. This touchy romantic song expresses earnest sentiment in straightforward way just like Thinking out Loud. This one is sweet, slow and utterly wistful and is a perfect showcase of a romantic lyrical nature. This is one among the Top ten songs in UK Singles chart.

  1. DIVE

‘Dive” begins soulfully and as we move forward Ed’s mesmerizing voice starts to set the mood. This song is very catchy, magical and you will easily fall for it. This one is so amazing and perfect that you can listen to it on repeat all day long. This song better gets a music video soon.

Ed Sheeran’s new album is pure gold. Arriving three years after his last album, “x” he does not disappointed his fans at all. His unquestionable song writing skills and his ability to pen soulful songs is the major reason behind his growing popularity day by day. Apart from the two songs of “Divide” mentioned above you could also try “Supermarket Flowers”, “Perfect”, “Galway Girl”, and “Nancy Mulligan”. All the songs are marvelous, mesmerizing and astounding. Go for it!

Fighting the depresssion

0

Lying at the close

Back of your mind, etched with that regret.

Darkness isn’t much of a threat.

But pray for an unborn spark,

Because what gives you away is starless dark.

Fighting the depresssion

Hope ain’t visible,

Not even at the distance of light years.

We will have to fight it through,

With our inner selves to let it go.

The devil residing in there

won’t easily come to bow.

Fighting the depresssion

Release the little soul you own

Of all those filthy curses;

Though your wounds won’t be familiar

with the new verses.

But first let the blessings sink in

Only then you will have the sensation,

Close enough to morphine kicking in.

Only the hallucination won’t be virtual ,

Everything you desire for will be real.

Fighting the depresssion

Travel and fall in love….

0

Do you ever fell in love?  Have you ever been to a solo trip?  Have you ever tried to go beyond your geographical boundaries? Have you ever met to any stranger and thought that Yes, we are identical. We have a connection sort of thing which we can take to next level and beyond. Some people are more than what they seem. Have you ever  feel that you are empty inside? Need to fill yourself up with such good things which will make you feel fresh and extremely an interesting person inside and out too? Need a break? Have you ever think of  being lost in some random thoughts?

sjifjiduigojdrkijg.jpg

The answers to these kind of questions is one and only and i.e., “JUST TRAVEL SOLO.”  You guys would think why I am telling you to travel solo?  So let me tell you that “Travelling is not just taking a journey, it is like breathing.” Without breathing you cannot survive so as the case with travelling. For travelling solo you don’t need to do much efforts- just find a place to go, pack your bags, make a check list of things and mark it CHECK, book your hotel,  and just go through the roads less travelled.  You are not supposed to wait for somebody who is a late comer or with whom you don’t want to share your trip, or who maybe is a spoiler. You will experience totally different world and the crazy yourself. Believe me! Every human is crazy in some or other manner. Just try it once and you will thank me :p

I should say “Travel and Travel as much as you can as it will make you find yourself.”  In the middle, If  you’ll loose yourself  let it be, you’ll  find an inner self, immense inner peace which will make you a new person. By loosing yourself you will find your soul which is damaged and need to be heal.

If you never fell in love then go for travelling.  If you want to give time to yourself  just travel. Suppose you want to hijack a negative you in yourself so just be positive and TRAVEL J you will definitely find Love during the journey. You will find love in every street, bridge, town, village, river, tree, wind, sand, dirt, rain, and in each and everything you pass on during your travel. You will fall in love with the new, refreshing WIND which blows away your stress, worries and tensions. When it will pass through, you will feel it’s touch everytime and can feel it. That sensation will take you to a new place. Each time when it will blow, it will take your hair off from your face you’ll  feel as if you are  safe and protected. You will fall in love with the ROADS  which will lead you to the destinations which you are not made for but actually which are made for you. These roads become your friend who will not leave you in any of the circumstances you are in. These roads will take you  where you will be able to meet the new you at every new place you reach. Whether it will be day or night, it will chase you nonstop and you’ll get a good company till your journey ends. You will fall in love with the TREES, the more you travel the more it seems as if they are talking to you. Their beauty, their color, their textures, their way of protecting you from the harsh weather, the rustling of leaves will definitely make you awestruck. You can’t even imagine the life which they make you live during your journey. You will fall for the SAND  which with every blow of wind touches you and makes you feel so down to earth and  a newly born child with a new skin covering up the previous layer. It will not remain with yourself every time but teaches you a lesson that you cannot destroy me as you are a part of me and sooner or later you will have to come to me. You can’t hold it but can feel it’s strength when come in touch with the water. The sand will make you feel clean and tidy in some or the other way. Trust me!!

Cloud atlas

You will fall for the OCEANS, LAKES, SEAS, RIVERS  as with every wave emerging in, it motivates you to reach that level to touch it. It will talk to you about its love, passion and how does the waves make love when it merges with the silent sea water lying deep down at the surface. You will feel alive when you touch it and let it make you fall in love with you. You will fall in love with the PEOPLE  you meet on your journey. Sometimes the strangers you met while travelling become your friends with whom you want to share your every trip. It will make you confident and feel less shy. You will start accepting the world as it is. Some people will make you feel like you know them and feels connected. I hope you heard that “What you see is not always the truth, sometimes it’s a way of god telling you that you still can clear your thoughts out.” This means that what people seem sometimes they are not the same. People are different in each and every term, you just need to understand them. You will fall in love with the HILLS, MOUNTAINS, SEASHORES  as they will talk to you when you will feel like talking to someone else. Whatever you’ll say they’ll talk to you and give you the answers to all your questions you might ask to them. You just need to listen to them carefully by keeping your mind, soul and heart at one place i.e., where you are right now.  Most importantly, you will fall in love with YOURSELF.  You will feel the new you, started feeling confident, free from prejudices. You will start thinking about the world in a new way which you will never gonna regret for. Travelling will provide you the space to talk solely with yourself , No matter how much long it will take. You will find your fears, strengths, and deals with them accordingly. A Traveler becomes a storyteller which will enables you to find other storytellers with whom you can talk endlessly.

Travelling will solve your every query raised in your life. If you never had any trip before so just go and grab it. Grab that opportunity for wherever and whenever you get a chance to travel, don’t loose it. If you’ll loose  a chance; you’ll loose one life..

Start thinking about it “Go somewhere, it takes you everywhere”

10 tips to enjoy the luxury destination of Dubai on a backpacker’s budget

0

Being a backpacker isn’t easy. If you get worried sick about your nails getting chipped, trust me backpacking adventure isn’t for you. But if you’re like me who has this undying urge of seeing the world as it is no matter what, trust me, there’s nothing better than packing your bags and becoming a nomad. Being a backpacker allows you to be mobile and travel alone anywhere you want. But travelling alone doesn’t mean loneliness, in fact travelling allows you to make numerous friends all over the world.

All my world adventures have given me distinct experiences. One such experience was travelling on a budget to Dubai. Why was it a distinct experience? Well, because everyone believed Dubai is NOT a backpacker’s destination. I’ve travelled Dubai on a backpacking budget and loved every minute of it. Whoever says Dubai only welcomes the rich. I was smitten by the warmth and hospitality of Dubai at every step and would definitely comeback for more.

For all those travelling to Dubai on a backpacking budget, here are 10 important tips that will make your Dubai experience truly unforgettable.

  1. Take the Dubai Metro

    Image result

Anywhere you go as a backpacker, taking public transport is a need but in Dubai it is a pleasure. The driverless Dubai metro welcomes you with comfortable metro trains having a stop near almost every tourist attraction of the city. Take a day or a week’s pass and you won’t believe how fast and economically you can travel all around Dubai.

  1. Try the Dubai Street food

Although, it is beyond doubt that the opulent fine dines are capable of making you feel helplessly tempted, the street food scene of Dubai is no less magnificent. A foodie’s paradise, Dubai street food serves you every great cuisine of the world including Japanese, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, European, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and a lot more.

P.S. When on a budget, go for Indian food. It is super delicious and the cheapest.

  1. See the touristy attractions on the Big Bus tour

Dubai has so many attractions to visit that it might take you days altogether if you plan to visit attractions one by one. The best option is the exclusive Big Bus tour. I travelled with Rayna tours big bus sightseeing tour. It was economical, very comfortable and made me see the best of city attractions. Having a one day sightseeing tour allows you to see all the attractions at one go and then decide which one you want to explore more. For me it was Miracle garden. It’s truly a miracle growing over 45 million natural flowers in the desert dominated region and present them all so beautifully.

  1. No need to tag along mineral water bottles

I have this habit of drinking lot of water and it’s a scary thought drinking regular water at unknown places while travelling. The last thing you want is to get sick. This leads to a lot of investment in mineral water bottles during the trips, but Dubai is a great money saver in this regard. The water of Dubai is declared safe to drink by WHO and there are water taps at all the prominent public places. I enjoyed drinking at the public places without any health fear.

  1. Don’t shy away from bargain

The souks (Arabian term for market) of Dubai are renowned all over the world for their extensivevariety of goods. But what most don’t know that it is perfectly fine to haggle at these souks. The vendors don’t mind, in fact, they expect you to bargain and that is why most of them quote a higher price. So, be smart, and don’t shy to say your best price. It not only saves you a lot of money but also is great fun.

  1. Visit the free attractions of Dubai

The wonderful city of Dubai pleasantly surprised me with amazing free attractions. Yes, most of the world-renowned attractions like the Dubai aquarium, BurjKhalifa (not the observation deck), Bastakiya quarter are free of cost. How cool is that? Also, some of the must visit places are so cheap that they seem to be practically free for their worth such as the insightful Dubai museum, Al Fahidi fort, the traditional Abra ride (it’s a must do activity), Dubai Heritage area,Dubai fountainLake Ride,Jumeirah beach (the only free beach in the city) and more.

  1. Spend some time at the magnificent free parks of Dubai

Mostly, backpackers need time to sit somewhere and connect with the world through their laptops. Additionally, I love people watching, so some relaxed time is much needed. The splendid parks of Dubai are the perfect locations to spend some quality evening time with your laptop and do people watching. I personally loved the Safapark and the Burj Park. The sky high BurjKhalifa looks spectacular from the park.

  1. Book tickets online

Dubai is a tourist hub and you can find numerous deals on just about everything across the year. Take the advantage and enjoy the amazing discounts across everything, right from food, airfares, accommodation and more. There are various sites offering amazing deals and combos for the delight of backpackers like us. Keep yourself subscribed and enjoy the benefits.

  1. Take advantage of the happy hours

Dubai has plethora of restaurants and they very well know how to tap their customers at all times during the day. I’ve had some of the most relishing meals during the happy hours of great high priced restaurants which were otherwise unaffordable. A little bit of research and you can end up hogging a giant meal at peanut pricing. There have been times when I’ve had such heavy afternoon meals that I ended up having soup only at night.

  1. Stay in the heart of the city

The best way to save huge on your Dubai travel is by staying in the heart of the city. Yes, Dubai has a sharp contrast of the high-end areas like Sheikh Zayed road, Downtown Dubai, and Jumeirah beach road and mid- cap places like Diera and Bastakiya, Al Rigga, Bur Dubai. Such mid cap areasare perfect if you want to live at almost equal distance from all the major landmarks. These are the places where the expenses on accommodation is very reasonable, plus you’ll get the best variety of food and also will get to see the regular life of a local.

I went to Dubai, defying the advice of everyone around me and enjoyed one of the most unforgettable travel experiences. There’s so much diversity, such variety in just about everything and yet, all is perfectly blended as if each one of them belonged there.

What did not work in the movie was Sanjay Mishra’s light weight villainry which looked comic at places. The film could have been better if the antagonist was more strong. The society which holds women responsible for triggering aggressive sexual behaviour in men has a lot to learn from this film.

WORLD’S MOST LETHAL WEAPON : THE TATTI

0

A five-year-old girl would be dead by the time you finish reading this article.  Well, you can’t do anything for that and death won’t stop if you stop reading so, read on.The combined tally of deaths caused by the nuclear explosion was around 2 lakhs for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But, every year 8 lakh children are dying due to diarrhoea making it 284 times more lethal than the little boy and the Fatman(the cute name given to destruction).

Extraordinary death caused by technology/military/terrorists seem exquisite to us, that is why we tend to remember them for so long. The ordinary death of the defenceless does not give us that pleasure(to contemplate upon causes and create conspiracy theories). This is when these ordinary deaths can be avoided easily.

You might have thought this article is some joke but wait, sometimes the truth needs to be told in the form of a joke so that people don’t beat you up for that. This is some serious stuff and what is coming will make you uncomfortable so if you lack the guts please stop now.

These children are left unattended like we leave our children to consume shit and die

Now, for a minute I make you the judge to solve this case.

Sunder and his friends were putting slow poison in the village pond every day, in one year 200 of the villagers died of it. So, would you as a judge charge Sunder and his friends for murder?

Almost all of us will answer affirmatively to that, we will try Sunder and give him harshest of punishment. Now, apply the same logic to the villagers who shit here and there turning the village nimboo pani(lemonade) into diarrhoea pani(diarrhoea water), would you put the entire village population behind bars.

No, here the fundamental difference is the lack of understanding of the consequences of the action. Sunder intentionally put the poison into the pond but the villagers they did not know that their shit is toxic, that their shit will tomorrow kill their own people, that saving Rs. 10000 in building the toilet costs them the lives of their children and dignity of their women (whom the village male stare at while squatting)

‘’So, tell them it is lethal and they will stop’’ most of you must be thinking. But just imagine if I tell you tomorrow that your using toilet is dangerous for others and you should better defecate in open. How would you feel? Won’t you be uncomfortable to try out a new practice? Change scares humans, even us living in hostels tend to use the same toilet seat every time so, then how to bring fast and effective change?

Change is a process, though it starts with information but it does not end there. For eg., there is a propensity of flies that if it finds the food interesting, it vomits the old food and fill up its tummy with new. Now, most of the flies sit on the shit, so next time you see a fly on your plate then remember it has vomited the shit there and you will eat the shit. Apartment people don’t generally eat human excreta they will eat dog’s/pig’s or any of your beloved pets shit.

Now this information which is actually a fact  is going to make you uncomfortable at the sight of flies for days but after a while, you will loose interest in the absence of any option(you can’t leave those tasty samosas just because there is some shit in that). However, what if I sell you some shitless samosas, yes, you will readily take it.

The same kind of approach is needed for Swachh Bharat Mission, first inform people that there is shit in their food and the shit is killing them then, provide them with choices on how to combat it i.e construction of toilets etc. But what about the people who don’t have money(the money under SBM comes after you construct half of the toilet), involve MNREGA  to construct it for them.

All these issues have been dealt with in our proposal. We want the government to adopt them, you can contribute in that. Visit the link below and see for yourself, vote if you think that it has some merit (Some terms are technical just youtube it). Please give your suggestions in the comments section. The girl mentioned at the beginning has died but your 15 seconds can cause policy change and can save the other one waiting to be consumed by death.
