Top 10 Movies Harry Potter Series

0

Ever new stories don’t come up easily. There always arrives a point of a writer’s block for every writer. And the first refugee which a writer would seek at that point would be towards the existing literature, so that one can give one’s touch to the existing version and can arrive at a personalized one. When it comes to cinema, visualizing existing novels is a common practice performed. And visuals ever sound deceiving as the film world is all within the three hour limits, whereas the book is open to infinity, devoid of time constraints.

So movie replications of existing novels cannot contain the entire essence of the book they adapt, and hence sound ambiguous at many points, when a reader, who has read the book version, watches the film. Only two films have successfully gripped any viewers who has read the book versions of the film. One being “The Godfather trilogy” and the other bring “The Lord of the Rings trilogy”. And there was one film, which managed to grip the viewers to an extent owing to the magical element in it. And that is the JK Rowling penned “The Harry Potter Series”. But there were few missing elements which any reader would have come out with whilst watching the film. Let’s take a look of some of those:-

10) Book: There’s a Sphinx in the Maze

Movie: No Sphinx

The Harry Potter novels offer some great riddle solving that unfortunately didn’t make the final cut. For example, in the Philosopher’s stone, Hermione has to solve a potions riddle to help Harry confront professor Quirrell. J.K. Rowling once again threw a puzzle at her characters in the Goblet of Fire. But here Harry has no help, trapped alone in a hedge maze, during the Triwizard tournament. While the movie version only has Harry escaping from some scary shrubbery, the book’s maze houses menacing creatures. One such creature is a Sphinx that will only let Harry pass if he correctly answers a riddle. This character inclusion reminded readers of Rowling’s background in mythology, while also suggesting that maybe Hermione rubbed off on Harry.

09) Book: Animagi are explained

Movie: Animagi are not really explained

Do you know the difference between a werewolf and an animagus? If you’ve only seen the third Harry Potter movie, Hermione’s explanation is all you get. However, the books go into greater detail about the process of turning into an animal and the laws surrounding it. We also learn that James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew became unregistered animagi to accompany Remus Lupin whenever he transformed into a werewolf. And that they created the Marauder’s map to help sneak out of Hogwarts.

So, if you didn’t read the books it might have been confusing when Pettigrew became a rat, Sirius a dog, and even McGonagall a cat. Though you know she did it legally! Understanding what an animagus is even gives significance to the Potter family’s patronuses. Since James became a stag.

08) Book: Peter Pettigrew Is Strangled to Death by His Silver hand

Movie: Peter Pettigrew Does Not Die

Remember when Voldemort gives Peter Pettigrew a shiny new hand, after he sacrifices his real one revive his master? The books prove that this wasn’t just a gift. As Harry and company try to escape from Malfoy manor in the Deathly Hallows, Pettigrew is all that stands in their way. He briefly stops himself from killing son of his best friend. But this proves to be his downfall, as he’s then strangled to death by his own hand, since he defined his master Voldemort. In the movie, Pettigrew was easily put out of commision by Dobby, who only disarms him, but does not kill him. Guess some things are too dark for the silver screen!

07) Books: Harry Replaces the Elder Wand in Dumbledore’s Tomb

Movie: Harry Breaks the Elder Wand and Throws It Away

Here’s a moment that made all Potter fans gasp, in both the book and the film. Harry is revealed as the Elder Wand‘s true master after he disarms its previous master Draco Malfoy. It’s what he does with it in the movie that erks Potterheads to this day. After the battle of Hogwarts in the final film, Harry does what probably no one with an all-powerful wand would do: He snaps it in two and throws it off a bridge. In the book however, Harry uses it to fix his own wand, which he always preferred, then returns it to Dumbledore’s grave, so that when Harry finally dies, the wand will have no allegiance to anyone else. Well, that makes more sense.

06) Book: House-elves Are Mistreated, But Play Vital Roles

Movie: House-elves Are Mostly Unimportant, Unseen

Harry Potter deals with many issues. But one that’s lost over in the movies is the mistreatment of house-elves. We do see Dobby as a slave to the Malfoys, but he has much more purpose than the movies led on. For example, he is the one who gives Harry the gillyweed in the Goblet of Fire, not Neville as shown in the film. Something else the movies don’t show is that Dobby and other house-elves are given proper employment in the Hogwarts kitchens. Plus, the films don’t include the female house-elf Winky, who cares for Barty Crouch Jr., gets fired and is then employed at Hogwarts. Man, house-elves deserve more credit.

05) Book – Harry & Hermione Miss Ron

Movie – Harry & Hermione Slow Dance to Cheer Up

When Harry, Ron, and Hermione search for the deathly hallows, their relationships slowly become strained. Ron in particular is affected, as he has to wear the horcrux locket, which forces his most negative feelings to surface. Ron soon can’t deal with it and leaves his two friends alone. In the Deathly Hallows part 1, Harry and Hermione are wallowing in despair while listening to the radio. When a shooting song pops on, the two then begin to dance with each other, sharing a brief moment of cheerfulness they hadn’t felt for quite some time. But, as the song finishes, it’s back to reality. This scene doesn’t appear at all in the books but is a nice moment between friends.

04) Book – Voldemort Dies Like a Human

Movie – Voldemort Dies Like a Supernatural Creature

In both the books and the movies, Harry and Voldemort are having their final duel, and their wands connect as they done in the Goblet of Fire. Voldemort uses the Elder Wand, even though it doesn’t have allegiance to him, but doesn’t realize that he’s actually fighting its real master. The Elder Wand refuses to harm Harry, and rebounds Voldemort’s killing curse back towards him. The book does not afford Voldemort the grandiose death he wanted, instead he dies like a human, in a purposefully anti-climactic way. In the movie however, Voldemort just sort of breaks apart and fades away, which is visually stunning, but doesn’t have that same finality, and affords him more power than he deserves.

03) Book – Peeves, Ludo Bagman, Charlie Weasley & Teddy Lupin All Exist

Movie: Peeves, Ludo Bagman, Charlie Weasley & Teddy Lupin Don’t  Appear

When any book series is given the film treatment, some characters don’t make the cut, because they interfere with the pace, but we missed a few. Peeves the poltergeist, a pesky ghoul who pulls pranks on staff and students at Hogwarts is a fan favourite. The ministry of magic’s head of the division for magical games, Ludo Bagman, appears in the Goblet of Fire book, but not the film. On screen, the Weasley family second-eldest Charlie is only mentioned and shown in pictures. But, an especially upsetting omission is Teddy Lupin, son of Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks. This book character represents the tragic cyclical nature of the series, as he’s orphaned in the battle of Hogwarts, and essentially becomes his generation’s Harry.

02) Book – Various Characters visit St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical   Maladies

Movie – St. Mungo’s Never Appears

Even a wizarding world needs a hospital. In the books, several wizards are injured enough to be sent to St. Mungo’s, including Arthur Weasley after he is attacked by Nagini. Some patients are there permanently, like Gilderoy Lockhart, who suffers from a backfired memory charm. Bet many forgot about him. Other longterm residents are Neville’s parents, who were tortured into insanity with the cruciatus curse by Voldemort’s minions. This scene not only shows the terrible effects of the first wizarding war. It also fleshes out Neville’s tragic backstory. Highlighting the fact that the Longbottoms’ history of defying the dark lord may have made Neville the chosen one instead of Harry. But it may have just been too hard to watch when the Longbottoms’ don’t recognize their own son.

01) Book – Half-Blood Tom Riddle Was Conceived, thanks to a Love Potion

Movie – Voldemort’s Parentage is Largely Glossed Over

When Dumbledore takes Harry through Voldemort’s past in the movies, we learn a little about how he went from orphan boy to the dark lord. The books, however, tell the full story. Voldemort is the son of the witch Merope Gaunt and the muggle Tom Riddle. Merope fell in love with Tom Riddle and with the help of a love potion, she married him. And became pregnant. Rowling has said it’s important that Voldemort was conceived as a result of force rather than real love. As it explains why he cannot feel love. Merope eventually stopped using the potion, hoping Riddle actually loved her. Unfortunately, he abandoned both Merope and their unborn son. This explains Voldemort’s hatred of muggles, as well as half-bloods, as he himself is one.

There are plenty of other details missing in the filmy versions, for movies can’t match the true essence of the book version. And no wonder, that people visit the book version to get the full backend details of a visual for visuals can be deceiving and ambiguous!

Reality Vs Illusion

My heart beats loud
I often wonder
About the deepness
Of this shallow world..
The anxiety to remain in limelight, the urge to go deep and find meanings..
The meaninglessness of this meaningful world drives me insane..
The ego wants quantity but the soul wants quality…
My heart beats loud..
The heart & mind in a different war discovering the hidden secrets, pursuing the way towards dreams…
A journey through illusionary world, baseless , not so worthy wordly treasures that seems a little precious..
That desire to let go and that decision to hold on drives me insane..
Human is only intelligent upto this extent that when you call him an animal he offends, and call him a lion he feels pride…
My heart beats loud, oh the double standards, the impositions, suppression, the pain….
Its only after a nightmare that i can stand next to a beautiful soothing morning…
Then I realize the journey is more beautiful than destination, I found the light in wounds..
I am my own sunshine, i am the treasure, the deep secrets,  meanings are hidden in me..I hold on the power to create my own world, to sculpt myself and my journey…
Let the storm rage on, let the volcano erupt, let there be light and thunder, let there be fear and gloom..
As i have reached to eternal happiness, i have learnt to sail my ship..there are cold breeze in me, the depth in which an ocean may drown..
I am perfect in my own imperfection, i have transformed into a beauty out of my ugliness, might be i am a sheep but i own the courage to command the army of lions..
Now i know there will be a sunshine after darkness..
Let the storm rage on, my heart beats high with a sigh but i sleep with peace to beat the storm….
Let the spring arrives and let it blossom my garden of dreams, let the thorns grew i will dissolve and transform them into the Azalea ( flower)…
The snow began to fall again, its not just freezing of water, its chilling  isn’t it?  No, Its gentle touch , a white pure peaceful cover all over the dirt, its playful nature, such beautiful scenario it creates , the magic that spells pleases my mind aesthetically, gives me warmth, relief….
The moon with its divine light enlightens the dark sky, makes me calm and cool..normal isn’t it? No, inspiring
Let me be the moon, let me be the light…let my sparkling wings develop and i will fly high…..
There is music , there is freedom in me..
Every mere thing is making it more elegant,
Let me conquer this illusionary world…to free myself out of all the fear, to rise with grace & power,
I must create my own paradise, my own universe……
My heart beats loud….

Critical Review of XXX-The Return Of Xander Cage

0
  • Deepika Padukone’s instinct for picking the right films has served her well lately. And there is a good chance it will extend to her first Hollywood film too namely XXX The Return Of Xander Cage. Frankly the movie is not great or even particularly memorable but it is a terrific showcase for Deepika’s captivating presence, her agility in demanding action scenes and above all, her blazing confidence. Talking about her performance, to be fair Deepika could have pull off this role with her eyes closed. Which is why it is heartening to know that she does not.

From the bumper sticker dialogues to the stray moments of emotion, Deepika approaches the job with schoolgirl sincerity and seriousness, that one does not usually find in this kind of films. Mercifully the audience need not to remember what happened in the last two XXX outings to follow the plot of this one. Vin Diesel returns to the role of Xander Cage who is extreme sport’s enthusiasts turned government operative who was presumed dead in an earlier operation who is conveniently discovered to be alive and is recruited by CIA bigshot played by Toni Collette to recover a committed weapon of mass destruction that was been stolen by highly skilled trouble makers. Deepika plays Serina, a member of that fearless gang who tangles with Xander.

It is a simplistic plot and one that shrewdly allows for a diverse cast presumably so the flick can appeal to the global audience. But only a few, particularly Chinese actor Dony Yen and our actress Deepika are rewarded as anything resembling a real character.

High action star Tony Jaa is the Asian comic, Australian actress Ruby Rose, the tough chic and Bulgarian born Nina Dobrev, a pretty nerd. Curiously the film recycles many of the same themes from Diesel’s more popular fast and furious franchise. To distrust of authority figures, the murky motives of government agencies and the idea that one’s team is one’s family to name a few. But the parallels do not end there. Like those movies, the plot of this one takes the characters on a globe hopping tour plus there is an endless buffet of next to naked women permanently throwing themselves at Diesel.

And yes, even some of the stunts look familiar. For instance, a daring free fall from an airplane. Hardcore action fans are unlikely to complain however. There is a nice scrappy feel particularly one in which Diesel pursues Yen in the direction of oncoming traffic and on the roofs of speeding cars and buses. But director D J Caruso does not restrict heavy lifting to men, giving the girls equal chance to fire heavy artillery, deliver kicks and punches and chase their rivals. Occasionally the shaky camera shooting style might set off a migraine, particularly if you are watching it in 3D. And it is a shame that the film does not give us much by way if a solid villain.

What it does offer is a leading man, who enjoys himself evidently. Diesel plays Xander with a lightness of touch despite all the wall to wall fight scenes. It is a casual throw away and relaxed performance. And the real pleasure of the movie is Deepika Padukone. Weather landing a perfect split in her very first appearance on screen or delivering her lines without a hint of affectation or accent, she gives a lasting impression. In the end, the flick is moderately entertaining, but for the sheer pride for watching our girl add another feather to her cap, you should give it a chance.

Heroes Get Remembered but Legends Never Die

0

Memories take us back but dream take us forward. The dream  that seven Gujarati women has seen has now turn into a brand. Once in our life we have  eaten the famous “Lijjat Papad”. But we have ever imagine  there is a motivational  story behind this Lijjat papad.

Lijjat was the brain child of seven Gujarati women from Mumbai. The women lived in Lohana Niwas, a group of five buildings in Girgaum. They wanted to start a venture to create a sustainable livelihood using the only skill they had i.e. cooking. The women borrowed Rs 80 from a social worker. They took over a loss-making papad making venture by one Laxmidasbhai, and bought the necessary ingredients and the basic infrastructure required to manufacture papads.

Lijjat expanded as a cooperative system. Initially, even younger girls could join, but later eighteen was fixed as the minimum age of entry. Within three months there were about 25 women making papads. Soon the women bought some equipment for the business, like utensils, cupboards, stoves, etc. In the first year, the organisation’s annual sales were Rs. 6196.

In July 1966, Lijjat registered itself as a society under the Societies Registration Act 1860. In the same month, on Chaganbapa‘s recommendation, U N Dhebar, the chairman of KVIC personally inspected the Lijjat. KVIC or Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission is a statutory body set up by the Government of India for development of rural industries. In 1966, KVIC granted it a working capital of Rs.800,000 (0.8 million) and was allowed certain tax exemptions.

In the 1980s, Lijjat also started taking part in several trade fairs and exhibitions, which improved its sales and made the brand name “Lijjat” well-known among the people. The advertising was undertaken through the vernacular newspapers, television and radio. The institution sponsored programs and gave away gifts for the winners of specific shows in the television. The money for advertisements was spent by the Polypropylene Division, which recovered the same by adding it to the price of the bags that it supplied to all the branches and divisions throughout India.

Lijjat received the “Best Village Industries Institution award from KVIC for the period 1998–99 to 2000–01. In 2002, the Businesswoman of the Year award was given to “The Women Behind Lijjat Papad” at The Economic Times Awards for Corporate Excellence. At the awards ceremony, the President of Lijjat urged the State Governments of Maharashtra and Punjab to reconsider their decision of withdrawing the tax exemption on Lijjat’s Sasa Detergent.

In 2002, Lijjat had a turnover of Rs 3 billion and exports worth Rs. 100 million. It employed 42,000 people in 62 divisions all over the country. The 62nd branch became operational at Jammu and Kashmir in 2002, enrolling over 150 members. In 2003, Lijjat received the “Best Village Industry Institution“. It also received the PHDCCI Brand Equity Award 2005. Lijjat marked its 50th year of existence on 15 March 2009.

The growth of the Lijjat is often seen in the larger canvas of women and their empowerment. The organisation has undertaken various efforts to promote literacy and computer education for member-sisters and their families. A literacy campaign for sisters began through literacy classes at Girgaum on 18 June 1999. Later, the managing committee decided to start such classes in all its branches. From 1980 onwards, Lijjat started giving Chhaganbapa Smruti Scholarships to the daughters of the member-sisters.

In 1979, Lijjat teamed up with UNICEF to organise a seminar in Mumbai on “Child Care and Mother Welfare”, as part of the International Year of the Child celebrations. In October 1984, Bhadraben Bhatt represented Lijjat at the UNESCO sponsored international workshop on “The role of women in the assimilation and spread of technological innovation” held at NITIE, Powai. Alkaben Kalia represented Lijjat at the national level meeting on women convened by the National Commission on Self Employed Women.

Out of this strong belief in quality delivered at an affordable price comes our act of ignoring competitors. Lots of companies selling papads have come and gone. We don’t consider them, we only do our own thing. We do not take into consideration what the competition is doing.

We know that if our quality is good, consumers will buy. Our quality does not differ whether it is for exports or for the local market. There is just one quality. And that’s good quality. Again and again and again!
