Science fiction (SF) is a genre growing in popularity through both novels and movies. Even though it has a very small target group, it manages to satisfy and impress everyone within that target group. Here are a few subgenres that are pretty commonly addressed in SF.

Time travel

This is one of the most interesting topics in SF. Any script based on time travel must be well built and must be consistent without loopholes.The grandfather paradox is the classic topic often touched upon in time travel and never manages to disappoint the one reading the story or viewing the film. A topic rich with endless possibilities and consequences, this sure is the most popularly known, intriguing subgenre of science fiction.

Space opera

Bored of living on planet earth? This is adventure science fiction set mainly or entirely in outer space or on sometimes distant planets. Space opera gives you a feel of what you can expect about life in other planets. Space exploration because of a rotting and slowly dying planet earth sounds like a highly probable setting of such stories. Just as in these stories how the planet slowly dies, this field of science fiction as well, hasn’t been doing any good lately, constantly overshadowed by vibrant and energetic genres that make space opera look too simple. These are the kind of stories that can be read/watched once, with no thoughts to take back home. Simple subgenre and easily understandable.
Superhuman

It is obvious that superhero movies are the ones that have the greatest peer group. The subgenre that is easiest to write also has endless possibilities to attribute content to the script. These are often termed as low-grade science fiction as they are not built up upon proper theories. They are much famous as comics and superhero movies. These stories usually focus on the alienation that these beings feel as well as society’s reaction to them. This subgenre is closely interconnected with another popular subgenre: Biopunk.The main underlying theme within these stories is the attempt to change the human body and engineer humans for specific purposes through enhancements in genetic and molecular makeups. Many examples of this subgenre include subjects such as human experimentation, the misuse of biotechnology and synthetic biotechnology.
Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic

The human civilization is coming to an end because of war, pandemic, astronomic impact, ecological disaster, or some other general disaster. This is the cliché setting for an apocalypse. The introduction of zombies seems to be a popular choice for such plots as it combines science fiction with horror. Not a fan of movies or books? Apocalyptic science fiction is quite popular in the field of gaming too. Post-apocalypse deals with how the humans struggle to start a civilization soon after an apocalypse the reason for which remains hidden most of the time.

Modern science fiction

Think out of the box by putting a cat in the box. This line summarizes this subgenre. A large variety of concepts emerging from existing theories in quantum mechanics form a basis for the development of such stories. Schrodinger’s cat coupled with Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle squeezes the mind of the well-educated public. ‘Life-changing’: people call it because it makes them question reality and transports them to an uncertain world which doesn’t have a science rulebook to follow. Parallel universes, another intriguing concept forms the other part of this subgenre. A single universe diverges into many from every point where a decision has to be made. These concepts applied to various situations in life gives us a story to remember and cherish.

In his last days, Steve jobs, one of the greatest visionary to have walked on this world told Isaacson(his biographer) that the next revolution is going to be healthcare.That was in 2011. Here we are in 2016 and now if I just fall ill, I can easily talk to my doc about the app and my medicine gets delivered at my doors the very next day. Yes. There is no doubt that the healthcare revolution has started but my only concern is what form is it going to take.

It could either be a beautiful relationship between health and technology or it could turn like an arranged marriage that screws up both sides. What I mean is that there are apps that have started giving free consultations and even highly discounted medicines. It may sound good but it’s just going to ruin the whole profession.

Human perception is very changeable, for eg if tomorrow we read a news that gold is just like any other metal with very limited usage, you will see it selling cheaper than aluminum. It may sound strange but this is how the consensus works. Once you decrease the value of something it will never go up. Every professional needs to keep increasing his knowledge in order to innovate new ideas and that comes at a price. Why would any professional work if he knows at the end all he is going to get is a thank you.

But it’s not all bad. There are companies that are building an artificial intelligence app that can suggest you treatment options based on your symptoms. I bet the day is not far when your smartphone phone will scan you and let you know there is small stone developing in your kidneys and you need to get it operated ..what a cool world would that be!!!!

All we can hope for Is that there must be a company which is working hard to make it a reality and when they do ..we hope the bozos haven’t ruined the whole market with cheap apps with tons of problems.

Our personal life is highly dependent on technology. With its advancement over the years, the role and impact of technology in our lives has also changed. The way we live, the way we travel and the way we learn has undergone so many changes with this technological advancement.

Here we will discuss five different technologies whose overuse can cause much harm.

MOBILE PHONE, I-PAD, I-PHONE:

Mobile phones, I-pads, and I-phones play a huge role as far as technological advancement is concerned. It is needless to say that these names come first when we discuss the harm that technology causes. We isolate ourselves by walking around with our I-pads or by staring at the screens of our latest mobile devices even when we are around other people. The overuse of these devices lead to unhealthy sleeping habits and thus, hearing and eye-sight problems. Studies have observed that it even reduces our lifespan. Isolated people lose the ability to read body language.

COMPUTER, LAPTOP, AND The INTERNET:

These are indeed, things that we can’t live without, in our daily lives. But the overuse of these technologies can cause only more harm than good. Children waste a precious amount of their time on gaming and surfing the internet, which will eventually make them lazy. The improper use of the internet can also make them victims of cyber bullying. The constant streaming of violence in video games, televisions, and YouTube causes people to become desensitized to atrocities that happen in real life as well. If in earlier times, electricity had been used only for the purpose of night lighting, with the advent of technology, it is used at all times, to keep one’s gadget running.

LEATHER TECHNOLOGY:

The Chinese and Indians are world leaders in this technology. We demand leather products – shoes, bags, wallets, belts and the like, without ever thinking about the negative of it. The skins of domestic and wild animals like goat, lamb, buffalo, deer, ostrich and snake are used to make such products. Sometimes animals are even poached and killed illegally for this purpose. Thus it breaks our ecosystem.

NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY:

Nuclear technology provides us with different things which include electricity and the fuel which is used in submarines and weapons, but the aftermath of it is pollution of different kinds (eutrophication and radioactive waste). We still remember the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War. Nuclear technology can cause harm that can last up to different generations – even after five decades of the incident, children born in those places are born with physical defects.

PLASTIC AND POLY-PRODUCT TECHNOLOGY:

This is a technology that is most widely used. A sea change in building technology arrived in the 1950s with what is known as ‘The Age of Plastic’. From mobile phones to bottles of medicines, nowadays plastic is used to make even the most trivial of things. The harmful effect of it is that carcinogenic neurotoxins and hormone disruptive chemicals are the standard ingredients and waste products of plastic production and these find their way into our ecology through the water.

Concluding, we can say that any technology which is used judiciously is useful. Overuse leads to harm.

Zoya stretched out her hands and said, “Hi, this is Zoya, 2005 batch.” Shekhar shook hands with her and said, “My God! Look at you, gorgeous young lady eh!” Zoya hated herself for this but she went weak on her knees and her heart was beating frantically, she felt like sixteen again. Shekhar was the face which had troubled her all her life, he had those eyes which disturbed her dreams quite often, he had the smile which always gave birth to thousand butterflies in her stomach. Why does he have to be so disturbingly handsome, in fact, he looked a lot more handsome now, and sexy too. Furiously she reprimanded herself such idiotic thoughts.

“Care to join me for a cup of coffee?” He asked she opened her mouth to say no, “Sure why not” came a prompt reply from her. She felt like pulling out a dagger and stabbing herself with it. He sat across her and asked her about her life. As he sat across him, she couldn’t help but lose herself in those dark embers behind the glasses. They were engaged in a normal discussion like who is doing what, family and hobbies, from the surface everything looked very calm but Zoya’s heart was doing a somersault, it felt as if she had gone back in time and she was the teenager looking at her hero with stars in her eyes. Soon, the coffee finished and it was time to part.

They spoke very formally. As she got up to leave, she blurted, “Mind if we become friends on Facebook?” God that was so childish, Shekhar gave her a very curious look, she had no idea what he was thinking at that time about her. He took out the smartphone from his pocket, punched on the screen and said, “There! Friend request sent.” Sheepishly, she also took out her phone and said, “Accepted.” Zoya had no idea what future had in store for her. Shekhar was the guy she had a major crush on which always remained unreciprocated and he is the one responsible for all her childish miseries because he had captured her heart way back in time and much to her horror, Zoya realized that she still felt the same for him. He was the reason why she always accused her boyfriends every time she had a break-up. His being disturbingly good and alarmingly gentlemanlike was the reason all the other boys looked like buffoons to her.

On her way back home, she cursed herself, she mocked animatedly, “Mind if we become friends on Facebook?” Gawd! That’s so old school, I should have asked him for his number.

Shekhar on his way back could not help but think about Zoya, her mesmerizing smile, those intelligent eyes, wavy hair cascading down her waist. The best thing about her has she had no idea how beautiful she was, had it been the case she wouldn’t have dressed in a pair of torn jeans and a T-Shirt which was way too lose for her medium size. Unconsciously, he took out his phone and went to her profile, and started browsing her photos. She was a beauty and in some photos, she looked drop dead gorgeous but she always shied away from all the compliments blaming on makeup and camera. She hardly had any idea how many of the men on her friends’ list passed subtle comments expressing their interests in her. She was either too smart to handle so many admirers so very indifferently or too naïve to realize their feelings for her. Either way, she was unique and truly admirable.

As he flipped through her posts, he couldn’t help but notice that she was a very creative soul. She sketched the misery, joy, hustle bustle of life in a very simple yet heartwarming manner. His phone rang, it was a tipoff of some scoop. He asked his driver to take a U-turn and drove towards his studio instead of heading home. The next few hours went like a whirlwind, he got really engrossed with his time, doing research, interviewing the people involved. He also sent out the field journalist for the first-hand information regarding the new twist in the hunger strike of the University students over the molestation of one of their students by the Youth President of the ruling party. The new twist in the tale was, the local leader of the ruling party was planning to apply force to make the students succumb. Shekhar and his team informed the police beforehand and they had the situation much under control and now Shekhar was to tighten the noose around the neck of the ruling party until they devised a plan to serve justice.

Zoya had forgotten all about her virtual date with Farhan. She logged into Skype to see if he was still online, she was two hours late, she thought he must have gotten busy with his office work. She logged in to see a few missed calls from him and a voice message stating how much he missed her. No sooner did she finish with his texts and voice message, she had an incoming video call from him. She picked up the phone and was taken aback by a crowd of people who had captured her screen and all were smiling at her.

Farhan appeared as the crowd parted to make way for him, he was pushing a three tier cake towards her. She was literally bowled over, he wished her right at 12 a.m IST. After he cut the cake, he waved plane tickets to her. He was holding two in both hands. He asked her to pick any of the two. She chose the one in his right hand, he said, “Damn! You just missed out a foreign trip. You are such an old school girl. You want the guy to cross seven seas to meet you.” Zoya was undergoing the myriad of emotions, it was too much for her to handle in just one day.

As Zoya prepared to sleep, she decided to give her 100% to this relationship, her heart wanted to check out the profile of Shekhar but decided against it. She decided it was about time she moved on, moreover, it was nothing more than a childhood infatuation, she knew nothing about that man except the things that were telecasted on TV. Farhan was flying down to her city or rather her country next week, she had to apply for the leave because she wanted to give all her time to him. It was not just her time which she intended to give to Farhan but all her love and loyalty too.

Sri Lanka is a varied and multicultural country; it is home to many religions, ethnic groups, and languages. The dishes include rice and curry, pittu, Kiribati, wholemeal roti and string hoppers. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage:

It is an orphanage, nursery and incarcerated breeding ground for wild Asian Elephants located at Pinnawala. The orphanage opens at 08.30 a.m. The caretakers then feed milk to the elephants. By 10 a.m, all the elephants are taken for a bath in a nearby lake.

Spice Garden:

At the spice garden, you will discover different spices which Sri Lanka is famous for. They are also used in Ayurveda medicines. After you see the process of how they are grown, there is also a 15minutes of relaxing foot/back massage done by using the oil made by the spices.

Peradeniya Botanical Garden:

The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres. It takes approximately 2 hours to explore the entire garden. There are more than 4000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.

Temple of the tooth:

It is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It houses the tooth of the relic of Lord Buddha. It was the responsibility of the monarch to safeguard the relic and hence over the years the custody of relic became to represent the right to rule. Therefore, ruling monarchs built the tooth relic temples quite close to their royal residence. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Sri Lanka.

Madu River boat ride:

If you are a nature lover, you can explore the mangrove environment here. Also, you will be able to see various endemic species of fauna and flora. In between, there is a break for paid fish pedicure for 30 minutes. This ride is very calm and pleasant and relaxes your mind.

Turtle Hatchery:

It is maintained for the survival of Sea turtles for the future generation. Olive Ridley Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Leatherhead Turtle are the rare varieties of Sea Turtles that are destroyed by man day by day. Regarding this they started to save Sea Turtles in 1986 and up to now they have succeeded to attain the goal gradually.
