April Fool’s Day!

0

So the most fun part of every year is here and everyone is so rejoiced. April fool’s day is one of the few days which are celebrated all around the world with no bias. The concept too is pretty simple. Go around and play pranks! So a happy go lucky kind of event.  But is this all that is to this day? Well, definitely not. There are so many things that we don’t know about it.

April Fool's Day!

This is just an example of the advertisements that are often used by many companies on the occasion proving the serious side of this fun day too. Since people are in jolly mood world wide in April 1st, the buying often tends to become irrational and hence business goes up. Also, many countries have their closing dates for financial records by the end of March. So the 1st of April brings some free time with itself too.  Thus if you thought it was only about fun and social gathering, you could not have been more wrong.

Here are some fun facts about the April fool’s day:

  • No body exactly knows that how and when the day was started. It could go back to hundreds of years and even more.
  • Some historians claim that it dates back to the early times during 1582.
  • The day was made popular by the Britons by playing pranks and jokes on each other. The word traveled and soon everyone started recognizing the day.
  • Some people believe that the name of the day comes from a Canterbury Tales line saying “syn March bigan thritty dayes and two.” This further created all the more doubts about when it is actually supposed to be celebrated. Some say it means March 32 (which is not possible) while others believe it to be April 1st (a more viable option). However, if one listens to the scholars, they believe it means 32 days after March.
  • Some believe that there is more to this day by saying that back in 16th century, a new calendar was discovered which marked the New Year to start at 1st Thus the day also marks new beginning according to many.

So it remains unclear as to how to consider this day. But that hasn’t seem to bother anyone. Many people play pranks on these days and have a lots of fun. But amidst this all, many people also tend to get hurt and hence it is important to contain this excitement and also think about having fun safely. April fool’s day will only feel fun when you don’t cause trouble for someone in the process.

So hope you guys have a blast today and enjoy to the most! Some one has rightly said that laughter is the best medicine. So laugh and make others happy. Sure this day is great to reconnect and get in touch with everyone your busy schedule din’t allow for.

Vidya Balan’s upcoming movie Begum Jaan’s trailer has already made cine goers curious! Begum Jaan is a remake of of successful Bengali movie Rajahini which was about a brothel that was located on the place where India-Pakistan border was to be drawn during 1947 partition. The producer of the film has said that none other than Vidya was her choice for the title role of this movie. A) “The fact that Begam Jaan is unapologetic about being powerful” is the main thing that drew Vidya Balan to this character.

Q) When talks of Indo-Pakistan’s partition comes to our mind, we think about many things but not about sex-workers. How has this aspect been dealt with in this film?

Q) As an actor, does not this question ever come in her mind what more can (as an actor) do to make her film successful, in addition to give best to her acting skills?

A) In all her movies that did not do well at the box office, her performance never faltered. Her performance was always appreciated. At one point Vidya began to think that may be she can do more than just working on her acting skills to bring success to her movies but she soon she realized that there was no point to push her limit for box office succes. So, she does not put any more effort except giving full potential to her role, to bring accolades to her films.

Social Media Marketing- A wave of Change

0

Whether it is B2B or B2C business, wooing customers is not at all easy today as the options available with them are numerous and so one must make their presence felt. This has begun the drill of making your presence felt to the consumer so that the recall is there for the concerned brand or product. In this regard digital marketing has been helping businesses grow many folds with using internet media to reach masses. If one sees carefully the changing trend of marketing activities being used today for customer acquisition and retention, a major part of it is done through social media. The social media budget forms about 23% of the total marketing budgets in many business houses.

Talking about the cost that one has to incur for this purpose, there are both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand where you can achieve scale, you also have to see for good content that will pass the test of SEO, keywords and finally is appealing. Tracking one’s competition and being reactive in approach is also important. One of the many advantages that social media marketing gives is the very dynamic nature allowing you to edit and even change anything whenever you want to. Staying updated about the industry trends, listening to what your customers have to say about you and what changes that they want in the product and service provided never goes in vain.

Social Media Marketing- A wave of Change

Bill Gates has rightly quoted, “The PC has improved the world in just about every area you can think of. Amazing developments in communications, collaboration and efficiencies. New kinds of entertainment and social media. Access to information and the ability to give a voice people who would never have been heard.”

Being at the right place at the right time is also important. When someone is browsing through their Facebook feed it is much easier to capture their attention and influence them in purchasing a product or availing a service especially in case if the service or product is of aspirational nature. This is because since this is a rather relaxed time so consumers tend not to think much rationally. A survey conducted by Marketing Sherpa claims that 33% of millennial have said that there purchase decisions are highly influenced by the social media and thus what they see.  Now this definitely gives a great idea of targeting the youth by social media.

So when so much is dependent upon one thing, all types of businesses whether big or small are moving towards social media marketing. Every business today has at least one YouTube channel and presence on Facebook. Social media has also been very helpful in new product development and knowing views on current products so as to tweak it as per customer. Thus while lowering your costs to substantial levels it does wonders for your bottom line as well. However, small businesses face more problems because of the fact that social media marketing requires expertise and since they cannot scale up the sales too much, investment is mostly equivalent to sunk cost.

ARCH

0

Every tourist is filled with admiration on visiting places with archaic architecture. An arch has always been an attraction for sightseers. Apart from the aesthetics that if offers, an arch is an integral part of the structural system as well. The invention of arch has been credited to the Romans who learned the technique from the Estruscans and then mastered the art of building arches. The presence of arch dates back to the 2ndMillenium BC in Mesopotamiam brick architecture. An arch is a curved structure that spans a space and may or may not support weight above it.

An arch is an absolute compression form. It can span a huge area by resolving forces into compressive stresses and, in turn eradicating tensile stresses.  As the forces in the arch are carried to the ground, the arch will push outward at the base, which is known as the thrust. As the upsurge, or height of the arch decreases, the outward thrust intensifies. There are three basic categories of an arch: Circular, pointed and parabolic.

The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

0

The North-Eastern part of India consisting mainly of the seven sisters is a much neglected or stereotyped part of India, along with any other state. The general attitude among the public is that of ignorance or complacence. The recent racist attacks in Bengaluru are befitting examples. The problems faced by the North Eastern states are numerous because of the ethnic diversity. This article elaborates on the Bodo conflict in Assam.Violence is not something new to Assam. Assam has been marked by severe violence for decades. The inspiration for the Bodo movement came from the Assam movement. The nature, protest styles and ideology of the Bodoland movement have similarities with that of the Assam movement. The Bodos are the most significant part of the vast Bodo-Kachari group of Mongoloid origin living in the State of Assam. The Bodos constitute a significant proportion in the districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Darrang and Sonitpur.

The Bodo movement resulted because of the uneven and distorted process of development that took place in Assam, during the colonial and post-colonial phases which failed to meet the popular expectations of the Asamiya nationality as well as the rising expectations of the smaller nationalities, including the Bodos. From the following decades of the 1980s, Bodo movement had become known for the perpetration of horrific violence. A pause to this conflict came with the memorandum of settlement between the Assam Government and The Bodo Liberation Tigers which was signed on 10th February 2003. The MOS resulted in the formation of Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD). However, the BTAD structure and functioning was undemocrative and unrepresentative. The BTAD includes the districts of Kokrajhar, Baska, Udalguri and Chirang. The BTAD is governed by a council comprising of 46 members, out of which 30 will be reserved for the STs, five for non-tribal communities, five open for all communities and six to be nominated by the governor of Assam. But the flaw in the system is that BTAD consists of only 25% of Bodos whereas the non-Bodo population make up for the rest 75%.

The question one can raise is, who are the real victims of the Bodo violence? The probable answer would be the Muslims and the other tribal communities. In the attack that took place on 5 August 2016 in the Kokrajhar district of Assam, a Bodo dominated area, which killed 16 people and left 20 injured, the Bodo militants wore kurtas and covered their faces to make themselves appear as Jihadis. The plot was foiled when one of the militants was killed by the security forces and identified as the leader of a Bodo militant group. The genocidal features of the Bodo violence have larger implications than imagined. In the midst of the turmoil of border fences, census numbers, and category of D-voters are the Bengali speaking Muslim community. Although this clash had previously been based on ethnic and linguistic markers involving Assamese and Bengali-speaking people, the state has increasingly deployed religion- based rhetoric of Hindu-Muslim communalism to characterise such tensions in recent times. These Muslim minorities pose an existential threat to the Assamese people, land and security.

The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

In such sensitive issues, the role of media becomes even more important as the information provided by media shape the popular opinion. Blatantly labelled as Bangladeshis, the Muslims were falsely accused as infiltration into Bodo areas by the Assamese media. The media by doing this justifies the violence of the Bodos.

The government, however, has taken no significant steps to change the situation in Assam. For instance, the culprits of Nellie massacre of 1983, a single culprit has not been prosecuted till date. Similar is the situation after the Bomb blast of Ganeshguri which took the lives over a hundred people. The main convict RajanDaimary is not in police custody. The successive governments have failed miserably and the issue has become a tug of war between political parties to gain power.

The Unsustainable Peace in Assam

Some of the feasible solutions to this crisis could be to increase the pressure of the security operations that has forced the militants to mix with the civilians. The security forces have to put more pressure in identifying the militants. The government and the civil society should be focussed on bridging the fissures and hatred between the Bodos and non-Bodos.In the context of Assam, the Muslim minorities are largely agricultural, underrepresented in government jobs and politics and yet there appear to be layers of fear acting on the minds of the majority who construct a perceived threat by the minority. The government instead of building on this fear for vote bank politics should fix on the loopholes, Reforms have to be initiated in the BTAD and BTC for a representative democracy.

15 Things Nobody Can Teach You Except You.

0

Life is a beautiful journey which is full of memories and inspiration. Your life is yours. All your near and dear ones can help   you to be  better day by day. It’s you who have to walk and do great in your life. You have to achieve your goals you have to accomplish your dreams all by yourself. In this life given by God you have to be strong ,strong enough to tolerate every storm every challenge that comes in your way. Finally you conquer all your dreams and ambitions.

1.How to move on in life

Life is not meant to be at one place. You have to keep moving on without looking back.Yes you can do one thing learn from your mistakes improve and move on.You should take a lesson from your past mistakes and move on.Just think that Will it matter after 5 years. In life nobody actually wants to know what you did.Everybody sees your present.Today who you are as a person.

2.How to stop dwelling in past

Dwelling in past is a very risky thing to do.You don’t need to see how your past was.It will do nothing better to you except leave you in tension and in worries. You can’t change the past.Whatever you did can’t be undone.Whatever you said can’t be taken back by you.In keeping yourself occupied with past you won’t be able to concentrate ,focus on your present and will eventually destroy your future which you can make presently.Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is yet to come .You have only present to make it worth.

3.What is right for you

You should know what is good for you. What is right for you. What is right might be bad for others and vice versa .You know yourself better than others. You know what is best for you.You know your strengths and weaknesses better than anybody.Your weakness can be a great strength for you at times.Others can guide you, suggest you ultimately you have to decide what is good for you. What will make you and what will break you.

To maintain a friendship you must understand each other, you must trust each other, you must be connected, you must be open to each other.Friendship is not a one way thing. You can’t force anyone to be friends with you.You can’t force anyone to talk to you.If your friends want to be your friends they will no matter what.A friendship is made with trust as a base it is nurtured by being there for each other and is finally made by efforts efforts to stay connected to meeting once in a while. Most importantly to be supportive. You may fight with each other. You may irritate each other. You may get annoyed yet a real friend knows that it wont effect the bond of friendship.

8.What to do when life doesn’t go as per your plans

When life does not goes as you have planned it to be.You should change your way not your ultimate goal.Stick to your goal your aim.Don’t change your goals instead find new ideas to find the way to your goal.Whatever you do do it patiently do it diligently.Restart with a new way.Make a timetable.Have a To do list.Remember if you have been put into a situation you will be able to come out from it may be slowly but at the end you will.

TOP 5 SONGS OF ED SHEERAN

0

I think there are hardly any music lovers who don’t know “Ed Sheeran”. His new album “Divide” has already conquered the music world within a few days and four of his songs are on the Top Ten of Music charts continuously for past three weeks. Beyond all his achievements, Sheeran is a superb storyteller and his songs offer emotional, contemplative portrayal of relationships that will often make you go spellbound.

Let’s check out the top 5 Ed Sheeran songs:

  1. SHAPE OF YOU

Since its release in January 2017, Shape of You has been downloaded over 488.500 times and has notched up 77.43 million streams. This is one of the first two singles released before the official release of his album Divide. This is one of his catchiest songs ever. This song stands out from his usual ones due to its super addictive catchy beats. However, I think the lyrical video is much more thrilling than the official one.

  1. THINKING OUT LOUD

Thinking Out Loud was also the first ever single to spend an entire year within the Top 40 without leaving it. It’s Ed’s top seller and his most streamed, notching up 113 million streams. The passionate slow dance goes so well with the romantic song and magnificently portrays his amazing talent. However this song was a slow burner, it claims the longest climb to number one position ever. It hits the number one position after 19 weeks in Top 40.

  1. PHOTOGRAPH

This is the final single from Ed’s second album x that peaked at Number 15 upon full release in summer 2015. This song is so touching, passionate and heartfelt and is bound to bring out the emotional version inside you. This song explains how love, memories and relationships are braided in such a wonderful way.

  1. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL (PAEAN)

This song once again proved that Sheeran is the King of sentimental love songs. This touchy romantic song expresses earnest sentiment in straightforward way just like Thinking out Loud. This one is sweet, slow and utterly wistful and is a perfect showcase of a romantic lyrical nature. This is one among the Top ten songs in UK Singles chart.

  1. DIVE

‘Dive” begins soulfully and as we move forward Ed’s mesmerizing voice starts to set the mood. This song is very catchy, magical and you will easily fall for it. This one is so amazing and perfect that you can listen to it on repeat all day long. This song better gets a music video soon.

Ed Sheeran’s new album is pure gold. Arriving three years after his last album, “x” he does not disappointed his fans at all. His unquestionable song writing skills and his ability to pen soulful songs is the major reason behind his growing popularity day by day. Apart from the two songs of “Divide” mentioned above you could also try “Supermarket Flowers”, “Perfect”, “Galway Girl”, and “Nancy Mulligan”. All the songs are marvelous, mesmerizing and astounding. Go for it!

Fighting the depresssion

0

Lying at the close

Back of your mind, etched with that regret.

Darkness isn’t much of a threat.

But pray for an unborn spark,

Because what gives you away is starless dark.

Fighting the depresssion

Hope ain’t visible,

Not even at the distance of light years.

We will have to fight it through,

With our inner selves to let it go.

The devil residing in there

won’t easily come to bow.

Fighting the depresssion

Release the little soul you own

Of all those filthy curses;

Though your wounds won’t be familiar

with the new verses.

But first let the blessings sink in

Only then you will have the sensation,

Close enough to morphine kicking in.

Only the hallucination won’t be virtual ,

Everything you desire for will be real.
