10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To…

0

“Girls”= “patience ki dookan”, “problems ke solution ka one stop” “mother of healing” etc. the present day definition for a girl is ‘the things which bear the capacity to withstand 1000 kg of problems without complaining or breaking.’ I am not kidding. Seriously people think about us like that. God knows what made people think that girls are like this. This is somewhat true also. But people’s conception about ‘odiagirls (girls from odisha)’ is epic. Honestly we go through a lot just because we are termed as ‘odia girls.’ Even though the experience is quite ‘khatta-meetha’ as it consists of everything. Want to share our experience?

1.Want A Husband? Temple Jindabad!!!10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

As our epic mentality comes, there is only stop for finding a husband i.e. temple. Our parent, neighbors and almost every citizen of odisha believes that if you want a good husband, a good family in law only god can help you in this. We are even instructed to fast on Monday and visit ‘shivji’s temple’ in order to bribe him for good husband.

2.Dont Open Your Hairs At Night10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

This is a epic one. I guess every odia girl have heard this terms at least once in their lifetime. We are expected not to open our hairs at night. There is a funny logic behind it. Our ancestors believed that when girls open their hair at night, they are subjected to risk from ghosts. Ever heard of “bhoot badha”? They believe that we will get “bhoot badha” if we open our hairs at night. Hilarious isn’t it?

  1. “Shadi Kab Ho Rae He Iski”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

Now this is something we always face it,that epic marriage wala dialogue. Every time a relative visits our home; this is a free question that comes with them. It doesn’t matter whether you are 20, 25, 27 or 18. It’s like after the age of 18, you should get married as soon as possible. Every time a relative visits my home, I always get prepared to listen to questions like, “padhae kab khatam hogi?” “She has come of age” “you should get her married soon” blah blah blah…

  1. “Kumar Purnima”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

Well this is a festival for odia girls. Actually this is one of the best things that happen to odia girls otherwise ‘life is in deep shit’ phase continues for them. Basically it is believed that a girl used to do this puja for her brother’s well being for 5 Sundays then after that the next full moon would be “kumar purnima” where she did rituals for getting a handsome groom. Just like “karwa chauth” for others, we celebrate this day for our ‘to be husband’. But the difference is “these rituals are done by unmarried girls only. But to be honest I don’t believe in all this. I just do it coz I get new dress and lots of selfies 😛

  1. “Do You Know Cooking?”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

Now come the cooking phase. I don’t know why people think that being girls, means she can cook delicious foods. It like we were given training how to cook from our mother’s womb. Odia girls are always instructed to learn cooking as soon as possible. Along with that there is a dialogue too that I bet goes in every household, “learn cooking as soon as possible otherwise your mother-in law would curse me after your marriage.”

  1. “Rajo 3 Days”= “Jannat”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

I guess u didn’t get the above words. Well we have another festival named “Rajo” based on girls. Basically this is a 3 days festival where girls are treated like “queens”. We get new dresses, special dishes, play swing and many more things. Even we are instructed not to touch our feet on ground too. It’s like days in heaven for us. Lucky we J

  1. “Brothers First”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

Well I hate this one. This kind of mentality sucks. But it’s common in odisha. We are always told to adjust with everything. There is a mantra of happy household in odisha, i.e. your brother comes first. It doesn’t matter what is that thing but your brother is always privileged to have it.

  1. Don’t Utter The Word “Boys”

This one sucks too. Basically people of odisha have a narrow mentality. So from our birth we are told to be aware of the things called “boy”. They are highly dangerous for health so maintaining distance is the only solution. You can’t eat with them, can’t sit with them, can’t dance with them, can’t roam and can’t even see them or else you might get more dangerous dieses than “AIDS”

  1. Trained To Be Best Housewives10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

This is free course that all odia girls receive from childhood. They are trained to be the no.1 housewives of all time. Basically that’s how parents in odisha think like. They think the only destination for a girl is their family in-laws house.

  1. “Dad= God”10 Phases Of Life That Only A Girl From Odisha Can Relate To...

Well this feeling is for all the girls of the world. But as much I have seen, for odia girls only one god exists i.e. their father. No one is better than him and no one even stands in the race with him. To our every problem, every breakdown there is one and only solution: our father. He is like a wizard who takes away all our pain in a single moment. We love them like anything and I won’t forget him ever..ever…

Ladies, Holding on the idea of the woman you thought you should be?

0

We all are unique and it is this uniqueness that defines who we are. The uniqueness of each of us is reflected in what we do first thing in the morning, how we look at our homes just before leaving, how we live the day and how at the end of it some of us choose to sit on the balconies sipping a cup of tea/coffee, some choose to go to beach and some party. There is absolutely nothing in being what we are. The bottom line is we need to and we should love ourselves in all form, all shapes and sizes and all shades. Sounds quiet idealistic right? Bet you were looking at your phone waiting for someone to call!

Well, nothing to be embarrassed about as this is all of us. All the girls out there. But have you ever wondered how it would feel like to stop for a minute and think as to why we are seeking acceptance from someone else? After all we are just bones and skins or basically humans put into simple words who are here living our lives. Are the jobs not hard enough that we are putting more pressure on us? This is correctly defined in a recent video gone viral by Sarah Kay in her brutally true poem “The Type”. In this she has made a very valid point saying that are you still holding to the girl you wanted to be? A little thinner, fairer, funnier? Are you wishing that he would come back? But let us ponder over one fact, why do you want something to come back? Would you reuse the jeans that tore apart again no matter how much you loved it? No, right? So why go back to a person?  Check it out below.

After watching this, it makes one wonder whether “the type of person you wanted to be” wants to be you? May be you are much better than that thought. Look at the mirror and for just one time take a look at how far you have come. And please don’t stop there. You still have a very long way to go. Self-acceptance and acceptance of how things are currently rather than wondering how they should be is the key to happiness. If you don’t love yourself then who would? Be a person of confidence, improve on your skills. Life is more than just looking picture perfect dear! It is about growing into a better self than you were yesterday.

Apply makeup if it is what you want and not impress someone else. Because at the night when you are asleep it is all going to come off by self and then you would want someone to be with you in your natural form. Whoever said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, he could not have been more accurate.

Protection Of Women Under Indian Constitution

1

The Constitution of India prohibits discrimination based on sex but it equally directs and empowers the government to undertake special measures for women. Though the position of women has improved in the last four decades, but still they are struggling to maintain their dignity and freedom. Presently Indian women are facing the toughest time mentally and physically, mainly due to unawareness and lack of knowledge of legal and constitutional rights of a woman. The Constitution provides many protection rights for women such as Protective discrimination in favour of women, Right to freedom of women, Right of women against exploitation, Rights of women under directives and political representations of women. All these rights are explained below.

  1. PROTECTIVE DISCRIMINATION AND WOMEN

Protection Of Women Under Indian Constitution

The Preamble to the Constitution resolved to secure all its citizens, including equality of status and opportunity while Articles 14 to 18 and 39 provide for Right to equality and non-discrimination among men and women. Article 14 ensures that the state shall not deny to any person equality before law. It prohibits class legislation but permits reasonable classification. This is a very important provision that provides equal legal protection to women against any women-based crime. Article 15 (1) prohibits discrimination against any citizen based on religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth while Article 15 (3) permits ‘protective discrimination in favor of women according to which state can make special provision for women and the scope of this article is wide enough to cover the entire range of state activity including employment. Article 16 of the constitution of India ensures equal employment opportunities to every citizen of India.

  1. RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF WOMEN

Articles 19 to 22 of The Constitution of India provide a detailed scheme of Right to Freedom. Article 19 (1) guarantees 6 freedoms (speech and expression, assembly, association or unions, movements, residence, profession and occupation) for citizens with reasonable restrictions and Article 21 provides for Right to life and personal liberty of each and every person in India which includes Right to live with human dignity, right to livelihood, right to work, right to privacy, right against sexual harassment etc. The Indian Parliament also enacted The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 which prohibits indecent representation of women through advertisements, books, writings, paintings, figures films or any other manner. The Supreme Court also emphasized the need to provide a life of dignity to the sex workers in our country by giving them some technical skills through which they can earn their livelihood instead of by selling their bodies.

  1. RIGHTS OF WOMEN AGAINST EXPLOITATION

Protection Of Women Under Indian Constitution

Right against exploitation is recognized under Article 23 and 24 of the Constitution of India. Article 23 prohibits “traffic in human beings and beggar and other similar forms of labour”. The expression “traffic in human beings is evidently a very wide expression including the prohibition of traffic in women for immoral or other purposes. Also the Suppression of Immoral Traffic in Women and Girls Act, 1956 has been enacted with the object of inhibiting or abolishing the immoral trafficking of women and girls. Articles 21 & 23 also impose the duty on state to identify, release and rehabilitate freed bonded labourers. In Gaurav Jain vs. Union of India, the Supreme Court held that the children of the prostitutes have the right to equality of opportunity, dignity, care, protection and rehabilitation so as to be part of mainstream social life.

  1. RIGHTS OF WOMEN UNDER DIRECTIVES

Protection Of Women Under Indian Constitution

Directive principles of State policy under Articles 36 to 51 of the Constitution of India are fundamental in the governance of the country and it shall be the duty of the state to apply these principles in making laws. Under this various rights of women have been implemented through legislations. The Directive under Article 39(a) provides that the citizens, men and women equally have the right to an adequate means of livelihood and Article 39(d) ensures that there is equal pay for equal work for both men and women. The Parliament has enacted the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 and to implement Article 39 (d). Article 42 of the Constitution provides that the state shall make provision for securing just and humane conditions for work and maternity relief and for this purpose the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 was enacted.

  1. POLITICAL REPRESENTATIONS OF WOMEN

Protection Of Women Under Indian Constitution

Article 40 of the Constitution which lay down that the state shall take steps to organize village panchayats and endow them with such powers and authority as may be necessary to enable them to function as units of self government. To realize the Directive the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments had sought to ensure a certain proportion of women as chair persons of panchayats. According to Article 243- D (3) and 243-T (3), not less than one third of the total number of seats to be filled by Directive election in every Panchayat/Municipality shall be reserved for women (including SCs AND STs). This opportunity of being a part of local level arbitration process has improved the social conditions of women in village areas.

Its high time we talk about Depression

0

Depression is a condition in which a person is overwhelmed by everything and not just some wrong thought process that one gets into and it is high time talked about it. Also it does effect ones body as well among other things. It can be a minor depression more like a set back caused due to have lost or not achieved anything or may be a big shock due to which a person might feel they have nothing left with.

You will be surprised to know that there is seasonal depression as well which is caused when the days are longer. In such cases it is advised to keep one self busy and hence we don’t get time to think about anything that saddens us. But this is not the right answer to the problem. There are so many things that we don’t know. Depression can also be caused by neurotic changes and because of anxiety issues. Doctors say that it can also be attributed to your gene structure but some part is definitely because of the individual’s behavior and his or her perspective.

Music can be a lot helpful in depression. Studies have shown that in a normal scenario, whatever you listen it tends to connect to you and turn your mood in the same direction. So the next time you feel low, turn up some solace genre and relax. Its high time we talk about Depression

This is a common misconception that medicines help in depression. There is no doubt in the fact that medicines do help. But depression is more of what we are thinking and how we deal with a situation. Medicines can only reduce your anxiety levels some what. But the effect will go sooner or later. What you will be left with is the self control and self motivation to push out the bad thoughts.

John Green, a very famous and successful writer that we are sure you also love. He has given us some great work in the form of “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Paper Towns” has also come out and talk about his depression and how he coped up with it. In his own words, he says “I take medication daily and have for many years. I also try to exercise a lot, because there’s some evidence that exercise lessens the symptoms of anxiety, and I try to use the strategies that I’ve learned in cognitive behavioral therapy to cope with my illness. But it’s a chronic illness and it hasn’t, like, gone into remission or anything for me. It’s something I live with, something that I’ve integrated into my life. And we all have to integrate stuff into our lives, whether it’s mental illness or physical disability or whatever. There is hope. There is treatment. You are not alone, and while I know the struggle feels at times completely hopeless and futile, there is a far shore for the vast majority of people, and I wish you the best.” Coming out about his anxiety issues must have taken a lot of guts. But this clearly gives a lot of inspiration to those who are caught up in this and are able to find no exit.

April 2- World Autism Awareness Day

0

Today as the world celebrates the ninth World Autism Awareness Day, this is a proud moment for all the human civilization in terms of how far we have come to make this world take in everyone. Each year, people all over the world supports who suffer from Autism and show their support by wearing blue color and performing various skits as well.

Autism is no disease but a medical condition that is found in children that makes it difficult for them to speak and do normal activities like others. Hence the work like reading, writing or speaking for that matter which we all take for granted is quiet difficult for them. Scientists have claimed that children with Autism are very creative as their mind functions more in that direction.

April 2- World Autism Awareness Day

It is very important to understand that Autism is not a disease but a mere condition which can be improved by efforts in the right direction and good counselling. A child who suffers from this feel a lot more vulnerable than others and hence one should be more sensitive towards his or her feeling.  A lot of work is being done in this direction and now a sight of special schools who teach such kids and colleges has become quiet common. Here are a few myths about Autism that you should totally avoid:

  • Autism is contagious
  • Autism suffering children cannot study. In fact they are more creative than others.
  • Please don’t be judgmental in your approach and try to understand them.
  • All the require is support and a belief that they too can lead a normal life.

Amy Gravino has very rightly said about Autism that “I believe that inside every person who is bullied there is a strength and a tenacity to survive. You don’t always know that this strength exists, but if you make it through those dark times, you become aware. You become a survivor, someone whose courage and spirit is far stronger than all of the hate and cruelty of their bullies. The one thing that I want to impart to children with autism is knowledge of their own inner strength, and the belief that one day at a time, they, too, can get through this”. This certainly gives people hope that there is a future for all and all they require is just some support and love.

Let us all take a pledge to respect each and everyone and help those who need us. The human civilization has grown from using stones to create a fire to now having robots as our servants. In spite of this we are unable to welcome all without any indifference. No body is superior or inferior. We all are equal and the day we all understand it will be the day we have developed. Let us all help each other grow and make this Earth a better place for all. Spread the word!

Prevention of Blindness Week focuses on creating awareness about blindness and how it can be coped up with and treated. Also, steps are taken to take preventive measures so as to maintain a healthy eye.
