Scheherazde is a legendary queen and the storyteller of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’. Persian king Shahryar found out that his first wife was unfaithful to him. Therefore he resolved to marry a new virgin everyday and behead the previous day’s wife so that she would not get the chance of being unfaithful to him. Scheherazade brilliantly tricked the king by making him listen only the half part of the stories on a given night and would complete the rest on the next night. In Greek mythology she was considered as the most beautiful woman in the world. Helen of Troy who was known as Helen of Sparta was the daughter of Zeus and Leda. Guinevere was the queen consort of King Arthur in the Arthurian legend. It believed that she had a love affair with Arthur’s chief knight Sir Lancelot. In Chrétien’s Yvain, the Knight of Lions she is praised for her intelligence, friendliness and gentility. She is definitely a fictional character as she has been portrayed by many writers.

Aimi Eguchi is a Japanese fictional idol. Eguchi was announced as the group’s newest entrant in June 2011. She was featured in the Japanese magazine Weekly Playboy, and appeared in a television commercial for the company Ezaki Gilco. When Gilco announced that she is a fake creation by the company many people were left disappointed.

Kaycee Nicole.

Debbie Swenson, an American woman played the fictitious persona Kaycee Nicole. Swenson who played the role of Kaycee represented herself as a teenager suffering from terminal leukemia. Kaycee was reported to have died on May 14 2001 and the people who supported her unravelled the story and found that Kaycee never existed. Debbie Swenson also confessed the same on her blog.

Rosie the Riveter is a cultural icon of the United States, who represented the American women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II. “Rosie the Riveter”, was the star of a government campaign which was started to recruit more female workers for the munitions industry.

It doesn’t matter at all whether that is risky or dangerous. I know we must not judge any job as no job is good or bad but yes there are some jobs which are highly risky. If you are concerned about your own safety or care you family and don’t want to hurt them, then please avoid the following jobs. And if you are compelled to do it due to some reasons then guys please be safe. – A true well wisher.

1.Electrician

Yeah this job is highly risky. I guess none of us paid attention to the risk factor of this job because none of us are used to this profession. But the people who have taken this job as their profession only they knows how they are working. This job deals with electrical circuits, components or anything related to electricity. And electricity is something you can never have faith on. A little mistake can cost you life.

2.Fire Fighter

The people who opt for this job, seriously guys you deserve a salute from my side. Fire is most dangerous natural destruction. I guess destruction is the wrong word but most of the time the worst thing done by fire is destruction. To save this destruction, this people don’t give any damn about their life and jump into fire to save other’s life. Heroic isn’t it?

3.Tower Climbing

The people having acrophobia (fear of heights) only can understand how risky this job is. This job deals with climbing radio towers or any kind of towers for technical issues with signal and all. Basically the heights of the towers are 60 feet and more. Working on such a height, need lots of attention. So you can the risk factor in this job.

4.Truck Drivers

By the name, I don’t think anyone can predict the risk in this job. Yeah even though the risk factor is not that high, but still it’s risky. Being a truck driver you need to work 24 hours to complete your consignment. So driving 24 hours, especially at night hours, it’s damn risky.

5.Logging(Woodcutter)

Cutting woods might seem very easy for some people but yes this job is dangerous too as while cutting trees, if you lose your concentration then you might lose your body parts or even you life. So all the woodcutters out there, please be careful.

6.Constructions Site

The people working at construction sites are paid very less but they work at high risk I must say. Working at heights, that to on a building which is recently made needs a lot of guts.

7.Fisherman

This job is not that risky. But yes there is some risk factor like going for fishing during full moon or eclipse when the tides are very high. This is like life risk because working in seas and ocean is too dangerous sometimes as you can’t predict the flow of water at any point of time.

8.Pilot

Pilots- I guess some are fascinated with the persons having the job of pilots but no one can guess the pressure on pilots. The whole plane is dependent on them and they fly at such a height so you can well guess the pressure and risk factor in this job.

9.Miner

Working underground, with no facilities is very painful. I guess you have heard of people dying inside a mine while bombarding and all? So I guess I need not say much about this.

10.Painter

Here we are not talking about the artists rather am saying about the house/building painters. They paint the house but the risk is while painting the upper floors specials, because it must be at a great height and they balance with a harness only. Seriously I get goose bumps when I see them working.

Times have changed and so are our methods. Having surrounded by technology all the time, we are now very much dependent on the machines around us and in return they have made our lives easier. India is now the fastest growing market in e-commerce, China being the 1^st and US 2^nd. We have seen a tremendous growth in Internet connectivity in past one decade which has further improved our shopping experience. Now we buy all of it from our laptops ranging from daily groceries to furniture. But is the e-commerce limited to this only? The answer is a big NO. With the growth of e-commerce we have also witnessed the information base available to us on internet grow many folds and hence making us more informed consumer one click at a time.

The latest Forrester Research reports suggest that Indian market of retail through mobile channel only is expected to grow with a whooping CAGR of 31.2%. Amongst all this the one thing that we often ignore is what is happening to the brick and mortar retail of India. While many experts and market pundits suggest that it is slowly dying and may not survive but this is only a macro view. While it is true that the online channel is growing at a fast pace one has to take a closer look at the profitability as well.

There has been a lot of debate regarding this. When the creator of Netscape, Marc Andreesen was asked his views about this, he had something interesting to say. He said that though online retail gives us a better price still in the test of providing something like just in time purchase, it can’t fulfill that. Quoting him “Retail guys are going to go out of business and e commerce will become the place everyone buys. You are not going to have a choice. We’re still pre-death of retail, and we’re already seeing a huge wave of growth. The best in class are going to get better and better. We view this as a long term opportunity.”

However some local products that are specific to one geography still requires the touch and feel factor, thus they are sold more through physical shops.

She has been writing this book since she started to riview. Here is a little about this book which looks back at twenty year experience of Shubhra Gupta on riviewing films!

Idea behind writing this book

It came to a point in her life when everybody started asking her when is she going to write a book and she kept telling people that there is nothing more to do than what she is doing i.e. riviewing movies. Then there came a time when she had a little click and thought that the work she had done from last twenty years can be turned into a book and that is how this book came!

Why is it called “fifty films”?

Shubhra tells us that it could have been hundred, hundred and fifty, seventy five etc. But because fifty was a handlable number so she chose fifty films. Having said that, she also tells us that it took her year and a half to decide which fifty films she is going to take over twenty years of her career and that trimming was the hardest part for her!

About some movies that are included in the book

Every movie included in this book has done something in the Hindi cinema which had not been done before. Mentioning two of them, she says ‘Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jaenge’ was included in this book because this movie took the Hindi cinema out of it’s confinement s. Also, she makes special mention of ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ because Hritikh Roshan was the new age hero and serious news magazine, “India Today” put him on cover page, so it was an obvious choice.

Any special mention?

She mentioned the movie “Hero No.1” and says that the actor ‘Govinda’ was at top of his game during the time this movie released and he is one of the underrated heroes of Bollywood. She also says that his trajectory would have been very different if he would have worked with different directors and this was the reason to choose this film.

Technology, by its basic underlying concept was supposed to make things easier in a more pre-defined manner such that processes can be done in a sequence and the desired results can be obtained. But if one stop seeing the effects of it on the macro level and goes into the details, it is quite evident that use of technology in work place has had both the good as well as the bad effects. Banking Industry, being one of the most regulated industries on the globe has seen many changes in the way of working in the past few decades. From being solely driven by work force, now more and more technology involvement has led to automation of services. But only the technology or automation inside the sector cannot be blamed. Because of development of many ancillaries as well which gave better internet penetration (costs slashed to almost nil as compared to the starting), it has further motivated the customers to go towards more technology-savvy methods.

Banking industry has evolved a lot. Gone are the times when one has to go to bank physical branch to make deposits, now we have cash deposit machines to do so. Economies all across the globe are going more and more cashless and the trend of online shopping has increased at an unbelievable pace! In a recent data released, around 45% of people worry about the risk of unemployment and this is basically caused by the effect of automation. Long gone are times when humans could have applied for a job, researchers say that one time will come when job openings will have the line “Humans need not apply”.

But why this happening is a real question. On one hand where we say that human intervention is essential for certain roles like a relationship manager in a bank, but isn’t it a top management position? Why are we even looking at those? If one has to see, then the primary focus must be on the lower end jobs. We can divide this into the variable hour’s employment and the fixed employment. What has been hit the worst is the lower jobs where the employer could identify clearly the money spent on human capital, skilled in nature. This phenomenon is called as de-skilling. With the intervention of machines and technology, one needs only the lower skilled people to do machine operating work. This saves cost for the institution and leads also to more efficient results. Now in this case, the people who were previously engaged in the same job gets shifted a notch up and become semi-skilled. Now the same job as in question also requires lesser number of people thus leading to loss of jobs.

The effect of technology is higher even for the people in top management. They have to be aware of all the new methods because the clients want more cost savings and want to in pace with the world. Now for a person involved in a top management, they have resources and knowledge to learn more. Hence the semi-skilled person is the one who is at a real loss.

The increase in technology is directly proportional to the need for skilled labour.
The increase in technology requires increase in skills of middle level jobs as well.
Low skilled jobs are created but are mainly for an outsourcing purpose and provide for cheap labour.

To beat the immense competition, banks need to stay connected to their customers to insure stickiness and that requires constant communication which way easier by the way of automated messages, email etc… There is no doubt that human touch is required in the form of relationship managers but there is only a little they can do.

Wholesale banks largely serve to the business houses and corporate clients and thus have a completely different set of services as compared to the regional banks. The needs of this customer segment differ majorly both in terms of the type of products and their monetary value.

The effect of technology has not only been on the banks but also the businesses that they serve to. The business in 1980’s were going over other countries and increase of globalization further helped to speed up the process. Thus there were risks like foreign currency investments, trade risks etc… These services were possible to be provided on through technology. The wide range of services to be provided thus required technical skills and requirement of MBSs increased drastically. Services like risk reduction and analytics, loan analysis, credit management also caught up soon.

Those banks who could not support these functions internally then went on to a cheaper source “outsourcing of activities”. Thus development of IT sector got a new pace.
