Depression: Let’s Talk and Help Remove the Myths

0

Talking about depression helps:A woman taking about it with her friend.
Source:WHOSneha (name changed), a Delhi University alumnus, was in 2nd year of college, when she was diagnosed with depression. Since then, she has been fighting with depression alone. She didn’t talk about it to anyone. Therefore, neither her parents nor her friends know about this.
I had no one to talk to. Nobody was ready to listen as to how I was feeling, what I was feeling. Whenever I tried to talk, everybody used to say the same thing that this is just a phase it will pass, read books, watch movies, do this, do that. So, there was no one to lend an ear, who would just sit and listen to me.

I even approached counsellors assuming that at least they would listen to me. But all they did was to prescribe medicines without listening to the whole story. I went from one counsellor to the other but to no results. Because in India we don’t consider mental health </ a big issue, nobody talks about it, as if it doesn’t exist. People always try to apply their theory but nobody is ready to talk, nobody is ready to listen.
And this is what I want to
change and work for, I want people to at least start talking about it,” says Sneha. She lauds World Health Organization’s effort to initiate a talk about depression.

WHO has launched a programme called “Depression: let’s talk”, with the objective to create awareness about it. It is a one-year programme launched on October 10, 2016 (World Mental Health Day), to help people across countries. WHO has come up with posters and hand-outs to start the talk in a creative manner. Posters represent two people talking about depression. The handouts give detailed information about depression. All WHO member countries are a part of it.

WHO estimates that between 1990 and 2013, the number of people suffering from depression has increased by nearly 50%. And close to 10% of world’s population is affected by it. Which will only increase if proper steps are not taken to curb it. There are many factors which could lead to depression, it could be a conflict, disaster, poverty, illness or crisis in personal and professional life.

“Depression does not discriminate,’’ says Tathagat, a 10th grader, who has been fighting depression since he was in class 8. He writes about it, on his blog. His mother helps him to cope with it. But his father doesn’t consider it a health issue. Writing and talking about it, helps him to fight it out. He emphasises on the importance of talking about it. Depression often leads to severe consequences and can be a cause of complete destruction of personal and professional life. In severe cases, it can also lead to suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among 15 to 29-year-olds in India. It also increases the risk of other non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc.

The stigma attached to depression makes it difficult for people going through it, to come out and talk. Talking about it can really help the person going through this. There are many like Sneha and Tathagat, who are suffering in darkness alone. It is our responsibility as fellow humans to help them in the fight against depression.

The Dark Side of a Comedian

VAIBHAV ARORA

Approximately around 2 percent of the world’s population is suffering from stuttering at present. For this 2 percent people, living a simple social situations can be a mortifying experience. There’s always a constant worry of being called on in a gathering or dismay of speaking in public and also persistent bullying that comes with being a kid with a speech snag.
Stuttering is basically a speech disorder caused by the instinctive repetition of certain words and may be caused by child development, human physiology, genetics etc., and further leads to mental stress, depression, etc.

Many people in India are affected from stuttering. But instead of bullying we must be friends with them.

One of them is Vaibhav Arora, who was born with a tongue tie, in which a thin layer of his skin is attached under the tongue. Due to this effect, he started stuttering. The problem didn’t stop here. Being a stutterer, Vaibhav used to stammer also.

(Stuttering and stammering are two different things. Stuttering is when one alphabet gets replace by another alphabet unknowingly whereas stammering is when you speaks by breaking the words or sentences).

Vaibhav was unaware with the fact that he had both the problems of stammering as well as stuttering. When he was in sixth standard, he realised that he is suffering from both. Before realising he thought that he is just a stutterer. As a child he was bullied and made fun of and used to stay alone and as a consequence, he didn’t have many friends. He used to be afraid to go out and play, having a fear of getting bullied. His so called friends used to tease him whenever he stammered. He used to fight back with the situation but was difficult to release all the frustration. As a result, he used to show his anger at home. He used to break glasses, showpieces, throw water bottles, even broke TV and refrigerator because of his anger and became short tempered.

As he grew up, stammering decreased a bit or can say that he had learned few ways of hiding his problem. He considerably stopped saying those words which were not coming accurately from his mouth. He used to watch TV all day long because tv didn’t bully him. Vaibhav was not studious at all. During 7th or 8th standard, he made bunch of good friends, around 10 in number. They used to beat or fight with guys who said anything bad or tried to bully him. Gradually with time, he started to get mingle with people. He used to crack jokes and make other students of his class laugh, specially girls with whom he gets along easily. There are some, who don’t judge people. He started wearing low waist jeans, make spikes and all, thinking that this was all cool.

His stammering decreased noticeably till 12th but he was more prominent in stuttering.

After intermediate, he still had a fear of being a subject to make fun of. So, he decided to opt a course with no college i.e. Charted Accountancy which was out of his reach. He didn’t even clear Common Profiency Test, CPT. Failing in CPT, he dropped a year and gave an entrance exam of Bachelor’s of Journalism and Mass Communication, BJMC and finally got selected in a reputed college without having any aim in his head. In his early days of college, some people noticed his speech issue and point it out but it didn’t bother him as he was used to it. And he started figuring out more ways to hide his issue.  So, after 20 days of college, there was Mr and Miss Fresher’s audition. He gave audition with his own handwritten script and got selected for the main event to perform in front of 600 people. Since the time of his performance was more than the time decided by the organisers, he, unfortunately, wasn’t selected. But seeing his script, they asked him to perform for 10 mins on stage. Getting the chance, he agreed. It was for the first time that he was performing on stage and that too in front of a huge audience. He figured an easy way to hide his problem, i.e., to talk slowly and remove those jargons which are not easy to say and if they are important, either replace them with other words or to speak them in a more denser voice with faster pace.

This was the time when he went on stage and started saying things, faking his confidence without making proper eye contact with audience. But the things changed when there were so many applauses, so many laughs. He felt nervous as well as enjoying at the same place. He performed for 13 mins.

My first performance on the stage was the best thing that has ever happened to me“, says Vaibhav Arora.

After this he never stopped and continuously performed at various events. He also mentioned that at his second performance there was a pindrop silence but he was confident enough as he got legit hacks to hide his tongue tie issue. Stammering has decreased a lot. Now, people punctuate him for speaking so much to which Vaibhav replies that he is enjoying it. Talking about his accomplishments, his stand up comedy made him the winner at such places-

Lady Shri Ram College of Commerce, Aryabhatta ollege, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi Technological University, Management Development Institute, Tecnia Institute of Advanced Studies

He also performed at various events in-

Vivekananda Institute of professional studies, The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, RK films and Academy, Northcap University, Shiv Nadar University

Tongue tie helped him a lot in his life till now, because now he is not afraid of getting insulted anymore( what else than this can happen). Now, he call himself as besti(insult) proof. Performing as a stand up comedian is amazing for him as he gets an adrenaline rush before every performance. He feels extremely sad after a bombing (when audience don’t laughs) on stage and still feels happy after getting laughs.
He performs currently at different open mics. Open mic take place in different places where comics test their new material of jokes to see the response of audience and then judge whether it is funny or not.

‌This is not an end , he is also a photographer and is very famous for his photography. One can easily connect with him on Facebook or Instagram : Delhiwalla.
This motivating story of this Delhiwalla is very true and directly connects to other people in and around with the same problem. One must not feel bad or shameful at this is not a sin. This can be your strength but only if you want it to become your strength as Vaibhav Arora made it and still making. So, go ahead and enjoy your life.

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

4

How do you define beauty? Is it merely something that looks good?  But that would mean that we exclude beautiful things like songs that we love out of the definition. That will not do. Let us first take a look at where exactly does beauty lie in an attempt to answer our original questions.

1. The beauty of symmetry and harmony:

Imagine yourself in a garden, shades of green surround you sometimes blotted with beautiful flowers of every colour. A soft fragrance of wild roses waves through the air. The soft rustling of the leaves and the muffled sounds of a flowing stream nearby brings a feeling of calmness over you. The sight of a green valley framed with icy mountains in the distance brings a feeling of awe to you. This is the beauty of Mother nature. This is the beauty of Diversity.

The universe itself is a great masterpiece painted on a cosmic canvas. Look at the planets and the stars-the way they follow designated paths and rules for billions of years without rest is a mystery to the greatest minds. Look at the atoms and see how even these tiny bricks of the physical universe adhere to a bunch of strict rules. A very few rules in physics and chemistry govern every single particle in the entire universe. This is the beauty of Harmony.

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

Take a glimpse now at the living world. The way the 3 billion genes are replicated and translated in the billions of cells in your body millions of times in a day without a single faults and the way these INORGANIC and NON-LIVING chemicals comprising DNA control the very blueprint of life and nudge the living world forward slowly but surely! Also think of the physical appearance of animals and plants– how most of them have a visible symmetry!

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

Now remember your favourite song /favourite book and the feelings you had as  you went through them. Also recall the feeling of awe at the architectural marvels of our ancestors. This and the joy we get as a result of appreciation of other forms of human intellect and creativity also belong to a category of man-made beauty. As a matter of fact, the very foundations of the joy we get in these great human feats lies in the underlying hidden symmetry that lies in the lyrics of songs, the reflections in the words of a book and the undying thirst that every human being knowingly or unknowingly has for the truth.

2. The beauty in every heart:

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

Perhaps the most important form of beauty is tha human nature and relationships. Recall the surge of joy you felt when seeing a loved one’s smile and the smile of a person whom you helped in need. You have perhaps glimpsed this beauty in the soothing voice of your mother, the caring arms of your father, the mischievious eyes of your siblings, the pleasing and warm company of your friend and the devotion and selflessness of a lover.

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

This is the sole form of beauty that can uplift a person, hold him strong in the face of adversity and nourish him when necessary. No law of biology or other branch of science can explain this beauty. For example- although some biological laws may explain a mother’s love and sacrifice for her children as a by-product of evolution to ensure the continuity of her genes, no scientific laws exist to explain why a soldier sacrifices his life for the freedom and liberty of others!

All these and the presence of a moral code in every human being’s mind are mysteries to science but can be looked upon as something beautiful.

So,we have seen where beauty exists. But what connects these seemingly distinct manifestations of beauty?

What is Beautiful and What Exactly is Beauty?

The underlying connection in Keats’ words is “A thing of beauty is a joy forever “. Anything that provides one with everlasting happiness and inspires us to perform miracles is a thing of beauty. Another statement in this regard is “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”. So,go ahead believe in beauty and let it guide you towards lofty goals!

WORDS OF COMPASSION

0
In the world of never-ending criticism, the power that shall sustain mankind shall be the one of love.
As Dumbledore rightly states in Harry Potter, “Do not pity the dead Harry, pity the living and above all those, who live without LOVE.”
And that is the fate our race is steadily driving towards. Still death is that unique phenomenon that has the strength to bring out of us the potential to love, to care and above all to support and empathize with another.
Here is a poem written by a girl, when her friend’s father passed away, to show her friend that love can’t be drowned or decayed in adversity; it rises above all.
Dear Girl,
There are times that dishearten you incredibly in life,
Among all the harm that our being undergoes the deadliest is loss…
No matter what they say of aging and death the void remains…
The grief and pain are inevitable but suffering is optional…
Please let it not be you choice.
Being the daddy’s girl,
I know you must feel lost and spent…
You will want to be angry, upset or may wish to quit…
But please remember, the man who raised you as a Princess… Would love to watch you standing out of this chaos as a Queen.
The person who kept you harboured watching you..
From the first bicycle ride to the Graduation day,
Wants to see you as the victor amidst the lashing waves of silence…
Let it not be the ‘silence that silences’…
For all the love and care that you have been brought up with…
You owe it to him to accept that he has found a place in heaven..
From your Guarding Angel on earth to your Watcher above…
In all the memories that he gave you…
It is strength that he wished to impart…
Do not let them cripple you…
I know it will never be the same but now you know nothing can be worse…
Your smile means the most to those who are there around you…
Your mother needs you as a pillar like all the others.. your dad would want to know that you handled it well..
I know it’s not fair. Yet it remains irreversible.
Besides, he can never be lost to you…
PLEASE, HAVE FAITH AND STRENGTH.
For all those who lost their parents, hope this gives you strength and helps you feel closer to your them.
Their loss isn’t of the nature to be compensated but you can make them smile or happy wherever they are by being the most sincere they wanted you to be.
Excel in life and take others along.
Love the people around you for life is too small to be wasted ignoring or hating people.
Be compassionate and compassion you shall receive,
For it is the way of the world,
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.

INDIAN marriage
rajeshkoiri007 / Pixabay
When someone is murdered, police first investigates the spouse …well this tells you everything you want to know about marriage. Jokes apart, so the happening and glittering marriage season is going on and i feel this great desire to express my views on this sacred bond but mostly i want to write about the fun ceremonies before and after marriage, which makes the idea of getting married very fascinating. Everyone wants to get married once in their lifetime even those who never wants to stuck in marriage. Umm a little confused?

Big fat Indian Weddings

My friend’s weddingSo what makes everyone so excited about these marriages, what i have observed so far is that these notions about marriages makes them so interesting and adventerous. So basically this begins with a news that any of your relative or family member is getting married, suddenly your monotonous boring life gets a kick and then follows all the prepartions, which ultimately results in almost emptying your pockets, all the unecessary cosmetic stuff and the necessary one also, you found out that you are running out of some cosmetic products so you go to buy just 2 or 3 products and then end up buying the whole store. Your daily schedule becomes more hectic but its like a cherry over the cake where you have to spare out some extra time for checking out your dresses and all the other necessary stuff.
Again some shopping from a small cute hair clip to classy heels , talking to so many people and asking for their weird advises on how you can look amazing and give a tough competition to bride and groom. When you all of a sudden remembers about a dress that your friend has posted on social media last year , from all the questions and enquiries which leads you nowhere this venture turns more amusing after all your futile efforts. Oh the gratifying part when you start rising in self love &  pampering yourself at home , going to saloon to get the glow of a royal Princess or Queen in a very short time span, after neglecting yourself for  decades. Some sarcastic stuff, but that true. Anyways the best part is shopping, for some unique attires, to beat the collection of all top designers or some window shopping as eye tonic from checking out all the roadside cheap clothes to trendy designer collection the happiness that you attain is just precious.
Finally after getting a perfect dress , you are like on ninth cloud and lost in your own dream world thinking about how will you look , how you gonna flaunt about it among your friends and relatives and will turn itno a sensation on social media with just one dress,  click click click, which actually happens but still its silly.

The Wedding day

Taking the Saat Phere

Getting ready, like a diva or a supermodel  & when you dress like a fashion icon celebrating your beauty in a way that no one can beat you. Its like watching a fusion of great indian culture with western thrills, and your attitude on that particular day creates the fire. Meeting all the relatives after years, with shyness checking out their behaviour and other people too by that i mean dresses of other girls & so on. But i personally check for snacks, which is important too. Yeah as time passes, some time and  after basic introduction the fun begins, you just throw away the disguise of decency and show your real self.

Like just try & imagine this scenario talking and talking , laughing loudly, eating like its the last time you are getting the delicious food, plates full, no you are no longer hungry but your lust for food knows no bounds so you keep on drinking soft drinks and try hard to digest everything , that urge to try each & every cuisine, and selfies not to forget. That blushes you get when people comments on your dress and when they are staring you like hell..So in and all these small stupid things say for some time makes us mad & happy both at the same time.

My perception

Well according to me, i realy dont appericiate these mindsets who turn marriages into such a grand affair i mean, basically i dont like wastage lets say of flowers and food and not to forget money , i feel people should invest it for themselves or try to do some charity on their big day instead of flowing money or actually showing off about their status. But yes this one day and the whole rush no doubt, can make anyone super excited to get married just to enjoy this whole phase, because even brides are more excited about their lenghas than their grooms, how will they look , their dance , so basically i know some people who are least interested in getting married but they surely wants to get married once just to have all this fun and then get back to their normal lives being happy singles…………

SOUP FOR THE SOUL – RUMI’s SUFISM

0

I have never been a poetry enthusiast. Call it my inability to understand and comprehend verses or the lack of romanticism in me.  I have always admired literature but somehow lacked connection with poetry. And no, the prejudice wasn’t all due to some preconceived notions. I had made several attempts at reading poetry. Often I would get books from the library, brew a good coffee and sit with the book. But I could never make any sense from the incomplete phrases or complex sentences. Reading within the lines was not a forte of mine.

Just when I had completely given up hope, a dear friend of mine introduced me to Sufi poetry. I never considered giving it a try, due to my struggle with classic English poetry and dismissed her suggestions. A casual feed check on instagram one fine day led me to the glorious world of Rumi. The simplicity and lucidity of the small poem that I read which was penned by him, shocked me out of my wits; and left me craving for more. Never had I read a piece of work that captured such deep emotions in just a few words. What was supposed to be a 5 minute stroll on instagram became an hour long forage for his quotes and compositions. That’s when I knew I had fallen head over heels in love with the art of Sufi poetry.

Rumi is a name that perpetually resonates in the realms of Sufi poetry. He managed to elude the devotional boundaries within which Sufi literature was based and spilled the poetry over human emotions, sorrows of life and the art of change, a feat that most new age poets inherited. His work never reflected only on Islamic teachings but instead captured the gist of all religions.

Rumi’s ability to understand and portray the vehemence and spirit of humans within a few lines made him so much popular that eventually he became one of the most read poets of the world and set a new benchmark for Sufism in foreign countries, a relatively unknown concept to the west. The long ballads and exquisite poetry was now replaced by the heart warming and soul cleansing couplets and free verses. Today, Sufism is not just limited to praises of the Almighty, it captures the smaller things in life, the essence of emotions and raises the veil from the sufferings of people, all thanks to pioneers of modern Sufism namely Rumi and his contemporaries like Mirza Ghalib and Hafiz.

One particular piece of work that made me swoon and the one which I keep recalling again and again only to find a different interpretation every time, is,

My heart is so small,

It’s almost invisible

How can you place

Such big sorrows in it?

“Look”, he answered,

“Your eyes are even smaller,

Yet they behold the world”

The girl here is in a state of disbelief. She feels that her heart is so tiny yet it manages to capture so many emotions and feelings. But the boy is quick to point that your eyes are even tinnier, yet they manage to see so many enormous things.

S for Soldier and S for Sacrifice

It was a just a day of happiness, when the nurse came to the father and said it’s a boy! , he was happy like ever! All tears were shedding from the mother’s eye, she knew the pain like no one did! 9 months of pain, she has taken care of herself, along with the kid, His father was farmer , he was feeling proud, now he could say to the world that, he is my son! It was a life changing event for the couple, though the father could earn sufficient wages to feed them all, he always wanted to think for the future, especially about the kid’s future.

The kid was ten now, he told his dad that he wanted to be a fighter, and his dad said, “Yes! You can become one!” The father thought the kid was just kidding, but the kid wasn’t he was damn sure, that he wanted to be fighter, he became even more ambitious when he saw the armies were fighting to  protect  the country, and risking  their lives, leaving everything behind. The kid always knew that he was going to be a fighter and he would do everything it takes to protect the country!

Now he was turned eighteen and was married early, his father was happy for a fact that his son could continue agriculture from now, and he could just retire, but it didn’t turned out well, the kid who wanted to follow his dreams , stood for it, he tried his best, he cleared his military exams  and was now ready for training, his father was upset, and mom’s health was deteriorating, the son had two options, 1) whether to go back and finish his training and come back and handle life’s issues, or 2) stay in home and take care of his mom and leave military, but what did he decide? He decided to choose country over family, and he completed his training and  soon things started to getting better but, his mom’s health was critical , she was in her last days, the boy’s heart was pierced, he blamed himself for his mom’s health, he went back home to be with her in her last days, his Mom told him, she was proud of him and she passed away next day.

The boy was upset since he couldn’t be with her all time, he was ashamed, there was some guilt building inside him, he wanted to relieve it, and went back to work, and  a war breaks down,  it was his chance to release all the pressure and just let it go!! His father was happy that his son was fighting for the country, his mother would have been very happy, if she knew where her son was, the war started, they were fierce battles, helicopter bombing, canons, firing and irresistible war situations, sleepless nights, it was just his chance, to breakdown all the pressure he had been in his life, and yes he did, but at what cost ? He lost his life! And came home in a coffin box,  His dad’s mind went blank, he didn’t know what to do. His wife was crying over the coffin of her husband, just years back she lost her mother in law, now she lost her husband, leaving behind a son who didn’t even understand what happened to his father!

The boy who wanted to follow his dreams was no more, his dreams made his life, a dream in others’ life, he risked all his life, just for a taste of patriotism , he left in his family, life and  all that he could sacrifice just  for the country, his body was covered in the country’s flag, which made his soul peaceful, he had many options  to chose any white collar job, but he didn’t wanted to work under someone for money, he wanted to make a difference, he wanted to prove that he was born for something ! Like every wife, his wife was upset, she didn’t want her husband to lose his life, what will happen about future of their kids? Who will be there to see them grow? What will she tell to his son, if he asks about his father? It was a just decision that he took, to serve the country, despite having personal problems, he want to do something different,  he wanted himself to serve the  nation, yet his family wasn’t important to him than that of country, he gave hands up to the country and left his family behind, but what was the cost of his sacrifice?  Couldn’t he live a normal life? Working for hours for some money, some one who  just keeps on bossing, some one who pressures beyond the normality, some who puts force to achieve the target, he could just work, sleep work and die!

But  he didn’t to work for one’s benefit i.e corporates, he wanted to work for country, he wanted to live all his life for the country, his Heart didn’t pumped blood, it pumped the patriotism towards his country, all it said was to Make the sacrifice and then he followed his dreams, didn’t care about the society with the ideal of life, work, doe! He wanted to live for a reason, and he did, he made a great sacrifice, sacrificing his life, family just for the country, he was a leader who was born, after all this, what did he get? Only one thing that his life didn’t went waste! He made it worthy to protect the nation and his soul rested in peace.

So scientists are putting a lot of effort to develop these vaccinated bananas for getting rid of hepatitis B.

  1. Purple Tomatoes

Cherokee purple is the name of a cultivar of tomato that develops a fruit with a dark mahagony-red color while maintaining a greenish hue near the stem when they have matured for eating. They are also notable for having a dense, juicy texture, with small seed locules irregularly scattered throughout the flesh. The comparatively dark interior color is enhanced by the tendency of the seeds to be surrounded by green gel.

  1. Franken-Swine

Scientists are working to genetically engineer the smell out of pigs by altering their DNA. These mutated products are better known as the Enviropig or Frankenswine. Scientists have combined E.coli bacteria and mouse DNA to inject into the pregnant pig’s foetus. Trials revealed that both the E.coli bacteria and mouse DNA were not only successfully incorporated into pig genome but also inherited by genetically engineered pig offspring.

  1. Venomous Cabbage

Scientists have recently taken the gene that programs poison in scorpion tails and tried finding out ways to combine it with cabbage. In order to limit pesticide use by preventing caterpillars from damaging the cabbage crops. These genetically modified cabbages generally produce scorpion poison that kills caterpillars when they bite the leaves, but the toxins are modified in such a manner that they are not harmful for humans.

  1. Square Watermelons

Square Watermelons are watermelons grown into the shape of a cube. Square watermelons were intended to fit more compactly in refrigerators and be able to cut more easily. The melons are grown in boxes and it is assumed that it would take the shape of the container. These melons are very much popular in Japan and its price is much more than the normal ones. So this goes well with the rich class of people who buy it for ornamental or decorative purpose.

  1. Glo Fish

The GloFish is a patented and trademarked brand of genetically modified fluorescent fish. In 1999 Dr. Zhiyuan Gong and his colleagues were working with a gene that encodes the green fluorescent protein originally extracted from a jellyfish that naturally produced bright green fluorescence. They inserted the gene into a zebrafish embryo, allowing it to integrate into zebrafish’s genome which allowed the fish to be brightly fluroscent under both natural white light and ultraviolet light.

  1. Humanized Cow Milk

Chinese researchers were the first to make headlines by developing the genetically modified humanized cow milk. The scientists inserted a human gene into the cows’ genetic information, and the animals’ mammary glands now produce milk with large quantities of lysozyme, a protein abundant in human milk. The introduction lysozyme makes the milk much healthier and more nutritious.

  1. Flavr Savr Tomatoes

Flavr Savr, a genetically modified tomato was first commercially grown genetically engineered food to be granted a license for human consumption. Calgene hoped that through genetic engineering he can slow down the ripening process of the tomato and thus prevent it from softening, while still allowing the tomato to retain its colour and flavour. The tomato was made more resistant to rotting by addition of an antisense gene which interferes with the production of enzyme “polygalacturonase”.

  1. Pollution Plants

Research is being done to produce genetically modified plants that will help in fighting pollution. The idea behind the experiment is that the plants will absorb the chemicals and help in reducing the pollution by breaking down the contaminants and releasing them into air.
