Maya : A Love Story

0

It is Thursday early morning 5’o clock. Due to tsunami in Chennai, the entire Hyderabad was covered with fog. Maya got up and checked the phone, it was 5:10 AM. She opened the book and started preparing for her interview. After half an hour, she freshened up. Then she prepared a cup of coffee for her. Enjoyed hot coffee in that cool weather.

Maya : A Love Story

Then she checked the time. It was 6:30, so cold at outside. Maya packed her bag, she kept her college id card, phone, resume, wallet, and all other stuff. Then she came out of the house, took a selfie in that beautiful life. Then went to Satya’s house who is her friend.

Maya : A Love Story

From Satya’s house, Maya and Satya started to Secunderabad to attend the interview. They caught the bus and moved to Lb Nagar, from there all her friends were gathered and caught the Secunderabad bus. The bus glass window was entirely covered with fog. So on that glass, Maya made the love symbol. All of her friends started chitchatting and some friends opened their books and started preparing for the interview. Some friends were clearing doubts in some topics by asking other friends. Maya and Satya started discussing on their project review. They reached Secundrabad and took an auto to reach the interview office. By 11 AM they reached the office. So on the inquiry desk, they got information that they needed to get into the G09 room. Maya and her friends went to the room. They went and sat in the last row.

Maya : A Love Story

Actual reporting time of the interview was 11:30 AM. But the time was 12:30 PM, still the interview procedure had not started yet. Everyone was getting quiet hungry. Maya and her friends decided to go out to the canteen. Before going to the canteen they met one of the coordinators and asked when the interview was going to start? The coordinators said it would take one more hour so you can have your lunch by that time. Maya went to the canteen with her friends. But the canteen was full of people. Maya wanted to eat noodles and Manchurian. They collected their food but there was no place to sit. Then Maya came out of the canteen and said to her friends to sit under the tree and have their food.

They completed eating their food and reached to the G09 room. It was already 2 PM. still the interview procedure had not started yet. After food, it was a totally drowsy situation, then Maya took Satya’s phone and started listening to songs.

Maya : A Love Story

Exactly at 3 PM they called for the first round of the interview. But for 5000 students, the rooms were not sufficient. All were standing in a queue. Beside Maya and her friends, all the boys were standing and made a lot of noise. Finally, they entered the room and completed the first round. The time was 5 PM and the company stated that next rounds will be conducted to shortlist students on another day.

Then they came out of the office and took an auto to reach Secunderabad station. In the auto, all of them started to talk about their friend who doesn’t have his father. After listening to the condition of their friend Maya went into a dilemma. Maya didn’t know the actual pain of the people who live without having a parent. But she knows the pain to live without parents even though they are alive. So suddenly she said to Satya that she was going to marry soon. Satya was shocked!

Maya : A Love Story

By that time they reached Secunderabad and went to the bakery to have snacks.  Satya and Maya ordered for pastry and then they caught the bus to reach home, which was a two hours journey. Then Satya asked Maya,

“What happened to you?”

“How can you say yes to marriage?”

“What about your love?”

Maya : A Love Story

Two years ago, Maya and Karthik broke up. Karthik was Maya’s boyfriend. They loved each other very much. But due to some issues Karthik left Maya by saying that he will return to her after settling, and asked her to be friends till then. Maya cried a lot and requested him not to leave her. Maya knew that she couldn’t live without Karthik but he did not listen to her. Karthik deleted all contacts of Maya and he did not even maintain his friendship.

Maya : A Love Story

Maya went into deep depression and she lost herself and attempted suicide. Karthik came to know about everything. But he did not care about the news and neither did he talked to Maya nor even see her face. After few days, Maya came to know that Karthik knows about her suicide attempt and she was shocked by Karthik’s behavior. Then Maya stopped communicating with everyone  and she started staying alone.

As the days passed by, Maya lost hope in love, friendship, relationships. She faced many situations but she couldn’t stop loving Karthik.

Maya : A Love Story

Then she got few marriage proposals but she was unable to imagine another person in place of Karthik.

So when Satya asked her why did you say yes to the marriage then Maya said,” Accidently I got one of the marriage proposals from Australia. He was already married and had a child. So I said yes to this proposal but my parents were shocked about my answer. Then they asked me what happened to which I said to them that I was not a good women as I was not a virgin, I cheated you so I don’t what to cheat another person in life, after listening to my words my father said that he longer has a daughter. Next day my father got the priest and had my funeral with a photograph of mine. I didn’t want to tell about Karthik because if I told about him he would have become bad in my parent’s eyes and they would feel very sad about me. I didn want that, instead of that they should hate me. Even though I got many proposals but I am unable to imagine another person. Also, I don’t have right to cheat the other person’s life. If society calls me sterile I won’t feel bad but because of me, I can’t get my life partner and his parents into trouble. After few years if my parents ask about the reason behind why I am not happy with my marriage, then I can’t say I love another person. I also emailed Karthik about my marriage proposal and what had happened in my home but he did not give any answer to my mail.”

After listening to Maya’s words Satya was shocked and then there was silence between two of them. Satya started crying and Maya was not showing her emotions outside.

Maya : A Love Story

At last Satya asked Maya, “How can you stay with this much pain and love without saying anything to anyone?”

Maya smiled, remembering and crying inside.

So after her education, Maya got married and started living as an unknown person with her life partner in Australia. Also, she never came back to India to see her parents and friends. Her parents also never called her.

Friends, it is the story of Maya which I have created with my drawings. So what do you want to say about Maya’s decision and her love ?

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

How many continents are there students? Seven, named, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, North America and South America! This is what we have learned in our schools, right? Ever wondered how all these concepts came into existence? Normally people believe that our present earth and the population distribution on earth are all related to extinction of dinosaurs, which is partly true but we need to know the actual and other factors. Let us encounter some of the theories giving rise to the distribution of animals.

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

CLIMATE AND EVOLUTION THEORY

This theory was given by W.D. MATTHEW in 1939. He was a geologist and mammalian paleontologist who believed in the PERMANENCY OF CONTINENTS AND OCEAN BASINS. However he also believed that climate of the world changed throughout the history of evolution:

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

DURING WARMER AND HUMID PERIODS, shallow seas separated the continents and even the great land masses of Northern continents were habitable where animals could freely migrate and evolve.

DURING COOLER CLIMATES OF ICE AGES, the northern land masses as mentioned above, became inhospitable and thereby forcing animals to migrate to the southern continents.

 THEORY OF CENTRIFUGAL SPECIATION

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

This theory was proposed by BROWN stating that largest populations of  species exist in the most favourable areas. Further relating it to Population Pressure which according to him is build up by the increasing numbers in favourable  areas  which further force some pioneers to move into the peripheral areas which may be not as favourable as before. This further lead to Isolation and Speciation that will proceed from centre to periphery due to the centrifugal force generated by the population pressure of the species. And such migrations lead to differentiation of races, clines or subspecies by way of character displacement across the range of distribution.

AGE AND AREA THEORY

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

This theory was given by J.C. WILLIS in 1949, based on his studies on plant geography. According to him plants have a tendency to enlarge their range of distribution slowly in all directions and hence the age of a species must be proportional to the area occupied. This means that widely distributed species are older and the endemic species must be young. The species get subdivided into races and subspecies by isolations, mutations and other generic changes.

However this theory was objected by FERNALD stating that many plant species have spread rapidly while others slowly or have not extended their range. Also endemism is not always due to younger age of the species but also due to the extinction of the species from all areas except small habitable localities left surrounded by barriers.

Till now we looked upon how there might have been distribution of the species but what about the geographical separation of continents? For this, again a theory was put forward which was accepted worldwide. Even the scientists today cannot bring any other evidence regarding the same.

  CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

ALFRED WEGENER in 1915 proposed that “today’s continents were once a part of single land mass called PANGAEA, which slowly split apart.” Three major line of evidence supported this hypothesis:

  1. FOSSIL DISTRIBUTION: discovery of very similar fossils in rock masses separated by vast distances and by ocean expanses.
  2. COASTLINE MATCHING: similarity of coastlines for different continents suggests that they may once have been connected. But the fact that they were separated by sometimes thousands of miles suggested continental drift.
  3. PALEOMAGNETISM: studies of the magnetic field orientations in rock strata reinforced the case for plate tectonic.

Ready for a Zoogeographical Voyage ?

According to this theory :

  • The supercontinent PANGAEA existed as an irregular land mass on one side of the earth surrounded by the universal ocean-the PANTHALASSA.
  • PANGAEA began to break up about 225-200 million years ago, eventually fragmenting into continents as we know today.
  • The first fragmentation resulted into two subcontinents- NORTHERN LAURASIA and SOUTHERN GONDWANALAND.
  • Gondwanaland split into WEST GONDWANALAND (South America and Africa), leaving behind Antarctica, Australia and India together.
  • Shortly thereafter, India split off and drifted northward.
  • During the next 70-65 million years South America separated away from Africa.
  • During later stage, North America, Greenland and Eurasia drifted apart.
  • Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica separated.
  • India completed its journey to the north and collided with Eurasia, North and South America touched together at the ISTHMUS OF PANAMA.

The Mind Secret: How to Manage Thoughts and Think Free

0
head vs heart
Brain and Heart

Have you ever spent the entire day doing nothing but wonder about your past or your future? There are days when people especially the students experience a sense of dullness in their lives. Sitting alone on the couch at home, swapping TV channels and thinking about the exam results to be announced a month later is just the beginning of the thought process. In no time, the thoughts travel from the exam results to the possibility of your depression and ultimately failure in career. The television is on, yet your mind is lingering under the shadows of your imaginations. Once you are trapped in such a maze of thoughts it is easy to get lost, unless you do something to come out of the sunken palace of your mind.

Just about a week ago when I was comfortably sitting in a lecture hall at college, the electronics professor came in with an announcement. He handed over to us each a sheet of paper. “Get Ready for a Surprise Test”, he said. Every one in the lecture hall looked shocked and was taken aback. There were some who seemed to be feeling good about the test. However, for many of us, this day was about to become a nightmare.

The focus of this article lays in the moment when this announcement was made by the professor. That moment is crucial. We all think of possibly tens of thousands of things in a day but during such sudden events when they trigger our senses, the frequency of our thoughts rise exponentially. Students were not prepared for such a test and that made many feel nervous. Failing on the test meant less respect among the teachers. Less respect from teachers meant poor impression. When a student has a poor impression on the teachers, sometimes that affects the final grades. Any possible reduction in the final grades would mean lower overall score for the year. This way as one thought lead to another thought, the announcement of a surprise test led to one’s poor result for the entire year.

Now, there are other ways of looking at the same situation. Perhaps a certain student cares little about the exams but is highly conscious of a girl students’ opinion of him. He managed to keep his image firm and bold all the while since the start of the college. However, this surprise test made him sweat. He thinks his year-long efforts are in danger. We all carry a certain wish in our heart and mind; we ought to protect that wish or desire more than anything.

[beautifulquote align=”full” cite=””]“How do you prevent yourself from getting affected by the chaotic stream of thoughts?”[/beautifulquote]

For some people, the desire to get better grades is the priority while for others, the desire to be accepted by people especially by the opposite gender students is important. In the midst of such a surprise test, in the minds of such students, bonds are being broken. Rejection from a girl would mean over a period of time, isolation. As for a student his pride matters, losing the pride would hurt a lot. In the long-run, no girl would ever talk to him or care to approach him. Similarly, like the two boys we discussed there are numerous other stories being sheltered in the minds of students at the sight of something unexpected or unplanned.

The question stands, “How do you prevent yourself from getting affected by the chaotic stream of thoughts?” Over the many years, I have been thinking about the perfect way to solve this problem. However, when it comes to solving one’s own problem, we humans are at a disadvantage. Moreover, when your mind is cluttered with thoughts it is hard to focus on what is important. The process to solve the problem on my own was not that easy as it looked to me. So, I began to research and read a lot of books from the people who have solved such a problem. There were a whole group of people out there who shared their secrets with the world. When I began to search for possible solutions, I came across the secret to our specific problem.

The solution was simple yet one of the most painful mental exercises I have ever been through in my life. When stakes are as high as your career, your life and your happiness, you have got to pay the price. The secret to unfolding the network of thoughts and clearing up the mind so your can think free is –

The Secret of Mind:

Trace the sequence of your thoughts as they appeared. Find the source of your thoughts and watch as one single thought generates a stream of child thoughts. Consciously track every move of your mind. Once you know how your thoughts are being created, destroyed and recreated again, you will know when and how to command your mind to pause, stop or resume.

[beautifulquote align=”full” cite=””]”People are less informed about the internal matters of mind and body.”[/beautifulquote]

Reading allowed me to come face to face with some of the most amazing secrets laid down by the leaders from the past and famous philosophers from the present. Only when I was aware enough, of the many activities my brain performed over a period of time that I was able to come up with the problem. If left alone, not bothered; this would never appear such an important matter to look into.

The solution that we just discussed carries a lot of significance but more so is devoted to the act of awareness which led to the discovery of such a question. There are many people out there who still think their habits are a part of life that can’t be changed. People are less informed about the internal matters of mind and body. Through this article, my motive stands to let every single person be aware of his/her life in a way, which is revolutionary.

Practical Benefits of going on a Vipassana retreat

0

If you don’t experience grief then you don’t need to read this article. For the rest of you put on your seat belts to begin your first step in the right direction.

Vipassana: What is it?

Vipassana is an ancient meditation technique which was rediscovered and popularised by Buddha. It is an exercise of change and has been implemented as a part of jail reform programs around the globe( Kiran Bedi also replicated it in Tihar jail, see the documentary below). For some people the word meditation itself is a big turn off, it is the old stuff which is good but is never done similar to exercise. But in fact, all of us meditate for a significant length of time during activities like solving a difficult problem, watching our favorite show or even masturbating, the only difference is the thing being meditated upon. The utmost concentration of mind is the foundation of meditation, but it is not just that. Then what is it? Well, it is precisely due to this obscurity in the nature of meditation that has to lead to the emergence of many of its types. But most of them are no more than a feel-good session. Here I didn’t mean to criticise other techniques, feeling good and having a concentrated mind has tremendous benefits, but why stop if you can have much more in exactly the same time.

Vipassana opens up the possibilities beyond the point where other meditation technique stops. It involves the cleansing of your entire mind i.e the conscious, subconscious and the unconscious.  All these things are meant to be experienced not just read. For the sceptic I would just say that if you don’t believe in the ‘’spirituality stuff’’, it is fine, you don’t need to. These benefits are practical and related to issues we daily face in life.

So, here I provide you with 6 instant practical benefits of doing Vipassana:

[youtube

It’s free:

Vipassana foundation is considerate of the fact that everyone doesn’t have deep pockets. Consequently, everything in the camp is provided absolutely free of cost. It also includes the cost of your lodging and tasty pure food. Thus, you can go to any centre in the entire world without even a penny in your pocket. Apart from this, the kind of respect that you get there is overwhelming. You are called a Sadhak(cool Hindi name for disciple) and all your needs are taken care of. However, I must warn you that you are welcome only if you want to give it a serious shot, come here to change and believe me you won’t be disappointed.

Try this:

Before reading further I want you to do this quick activity. Close your eyes for just 30 seconds, try to feel your inhalation and exhalation, just observe the breath as it goes in and out and do nothing else. BEGIN NOW.

What happened? Did your mind get diverted for a moment or was it absolutely concentrated on the breath the entire time? If you were able to reach 7 breaths before your mind wandered away, then you are like me. This activity was to show how mentally fragile we are. We can’t even keep our mind in control even for half a minute, the mind has turned into a wild elephant who revolts if forced to be obeyed. But the same elephant if domesticated will use its power in any direction its master wishes. Vipassana will do just that it will domesticate your mind and believe me you will be surprised to see the new you.

It is helpful in preparation for exams like IIT JEE and UPSC:

In the world of cut-throat competitions, even a single mark could be the difference between selection and rejection (ask someone who has been held by just some marks about how it feels). Vipassana gives you strength to slog for hours with full productivity. The calmness of mind that you will generate through practice will help you to tackle difficult problems (which terrify us, but if fought with, then are solved). Further, you will avoid petty mistakes in IIT JEE like exams where sometimes the options differ by only a minus sign. Also, the technique will teach you to stay in the present and focus on the problem at hand ( don’t we all have that time when we want to work out when studying or study when working out).

Practical Benefits of going on a Vipassana retreatAddictions:

I should better skip this point, as I don’t have any” some of you might be thinking. But, addiction isn’t just drugs and alcohol. Addiction is anything which causes your mind to go into disequilibrium in the absence of an object, ritual or even a process. You can be addicted to your Girlfriend, tea, lucky charms etc. And it can lead to some dangerous situations. For instance, you lost your lucky pen just before the interview and we all can guess what follows, you become jittery and are not able to perform well thus it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. After Vipassana, you will be able to stay in equilibrium in the presence or absence of the pen and thus grab the opportunity to perform to your fullest.

Mental Illness:

This especially applies in the case of depression, anxiety, headache, and Migraine. Though the Vipassana website doesn’t claim anything of this sort, but there are a plethora of anecdotes of people who have actually got cured. Even the teacher who brought this technique to India from Myanmar got into this just to find the cure to his migraine. Do you know someone who has any of this ailments? If yes then tell them, they will never forget you.

Unique Adrenaline:

are you the kind of person who just packs her bag and goes out to discover the world? What, No! Then here is your chance to be one. Moreover, you will experience the same excitement (especially on the fourth day) that a mountain climber feels. But the adrenaline will not be of physical activity but mental revelation. Further, the difficulties that might challenge you include the complete silence for 9 days, no connection with the outside world during this time etc. But these challenges are worth it, for you will see not the scenic beauty of trekking but the mountain that is inside you. And believe me it is more beautiful, it is yours.

All these 6 points are just to cajole you to enter the Vipassana Centre. You can still go on with your life without even doing Vipassana. But, it is like carrying on with the routines of existence without even examining the principles on which it is based, similar to driving an unserviced car. You will never know when the brakes will fail, or even if you are in the right direction. I am sure you do want to check the direction of your life, don’t you?

REASONS, WHY BOLLYWOOD IS MILES AWAY FROM OSCARS

1

The giant Mumbai-based sobriquet in India named Bollywood laid its first stone in the 1930s with the gratefulness of Dadasaheb Phalke. Bollywood represents Hindi film industry which, now, has become the largest film producing hub delivering approx. 250 movies per year including several Indian languages. The revenue generated through movie tickets is growing at a kickass rate. But has Bollywood got the worthy notability across the globe yet? An international award ceremony organized by AMPAS every year named “Oscars” honors the hard work of all the sobriquets. The categories for the fellow awards are headed by:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Director
  • Best Actor in a Leading Role
  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role

  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role

  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Documentary Feature
  • Best Documentary Short Subject
  • Best Film Editing
  • Best Foreign Language Film

  • Best Original Song
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Sound Editing
  • Best Sound Mixing
  • Best Visual Effects
  • Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay)
  • Best Writing (Original Screenplay)

But the reasons why Bollywood hasn’t pulled off any of the categories since then are:

  • Too much of focus on one hero

So if you recall one of the nominated-but-not-won movies of early days, LAGAAN, the entire movie is focused on the “hero” Aamir Khan, as “Bhuvan”, and no other artist. Why? Weren’t the other players and actors contributing to the cricket game or the entire movie itself? The reality is each and every role had its own importance which was lucidly neglected and all the audience remembered was “Bhuvan”. This was the biggest drawback because of which the movie could not retain its glory in Oscars.

  • Lack of gray characters

Nobody can deny that Bollywood movies have a villain and a hero. Well, the true stats show that a normal human has both positive and negative traits. Let’s take Taare Zameen Par, where, again, Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary were the heroes with only phenomenal flaunting qualities but on the other hand Darsheel’s dad was the harsh villain guy who wasn’t able to understand his child’s problem at all.

  • Never-ending Parade of songs

REASONS, WHY BOLLYWOOD IS MILES AWAY FROM OSCARSNow how dare you point this out? Aren’t movies made only for entertainment? Aren’t item songs and illogical scenic songs giving peace to our mind? NO. The unnecessary inevitable one-after-another sequel of songs sometimes just breaks the flow of the story and we are lost in the harmony back there. They can be cut down to a digestible number.

  • Happy happy happy ending

Is it a curse that a story cannot be concluded without a happy ending? Or if this doesn’t happen, the audience will throw rotten eggs and cry out of anger or leave the theater dishearten? In most of the Bollywood movies, the hero after beaten up to death will come back to life again just to defeat hundreds of men and then he might die or live peacefully just for the sake of “Happy Ending”. Hello? The magical almighty spares this unbelievable trial.

  • Logic?

Where? Where, my friend, can you see the dots connected? It is fine when we find brainless-comedy occasionally but if it is seen every now and then, it has to be given thumbs down after witnessing nerve-pain.

REASONS, WHY BOLLYWOOD IS MILES AWAY FROM OSCARS

Heavy-loaded budgets and foreign locations are not the only things public is looking for. Gone are those days when audience used to accept and giggle on “anything” that was screened. No doubt many directors have created a history that is still marked on the pages but that 90% of cliché has to be put under serious observation for change.

Things you never knew about Beer

Beer is the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage, and the third-most popular drink overall, after water and tea. All I know is that I am contributing a lot to this fact.

2. Beer is all-natural-

YES, the truth is that beer is as all-natural as orange juice or milk. Beer doesn’t need preservatives because it has alcohol and hops, both of which are natural preservatives. Beer is only “processed” in the sense that bread is: It is cooked and fermented, then filtered and packaged.

Beer not only has no cholesterol, it can actually improve the cholesterol in your body. In fact, drinking beer regularly and moderately will tilt your HDL/LDL cholesterol ratios the right way. According to some studies, as little as one beer a day can boost your HDL by up to 4 per cent.

4. It can help prevent kidney stones

A study conducted in Finland established that moderate daily consumption of beer can reduce the risk of developing kidney stones by 40%. This health benefit is attributed to beer’s high water content (about 93%) that helps flush harmful toxins out of the body and keep the kidneys working properly. Also, compounds in hops used in brewing help slow the release of calcium from bones, which in turn prevents build-up of lost calcium in the kidney in the form of stones.
