Reasons to Opt For A Bone Marrow Transplant

0
medical team discussing results with patient

Bone marrow is a spongy and fatty tissue that is present inside the bones. It creates the:

·         Red blood cells that carry oxygen and nutrients throughout the body

·         White blood cells that fight infection

·         Platelets that are responsible for clot formation

The bone marrow also contains the immature blood forming stem cells that are known as HSCs or hematopoietic stem cells. Most of the cells are differentiated and make copies of themselves. These stem cells are however unspecialized which means that they have the potential to multiply through cell division. They either remain as stem cells or differentiate and get matured into many different kinds of blood cells. The HSC that is present in the bone marrow makes new blood cells throughout a person’s lifespan.

Bone marrow transplant procedure

Bone marrow transplant is a medical procedure. This is done in order to replace the bone marrow that has been destroyed or damaged by a disease, an infection or chemotherapy. In this procedure, the blood stem cells are transplanted which travel to the bone marrow where they produce new blood cells and also promote the growth of new marrow.

The bone marrow transplant procedure replaces the damaged stem cells with healthy cells. This lets the body make enough WBC, RBC, and platelets which help to avoid infections, anemia or bleeding disorders.

In a stem cell therapy, the healthy stem cells are either taken from a donor or they are taken from the patient’s own body. The stem cells are harvested before the start of the radiation or the chemotherapy treatment. The healthy cells are restored and then used in transplantation.

Why is the bone marrow transplant performed?

When a person’s marrow is not healthy enough and does not function properly then the bone marrow transplant is performed. The bone marrow could become unhealthy because of a disease, an infection or if the patient is being treated for cancer. Know the other reasons for bone marrow transplant before you book the surgery packages online.

The reasons why one may need a bone marrow transplant are:

·         Aplastic anemia is where the marrow stops to make new blood cells.

·         Cancer like leukemia or lymphoma that affects the marrow

·         Bone marrow getting damaged due to chemotherapy

·         Congenital neutropenia which is an inherited disorder that leads to recurring      infections

·         Thalassemia, where the body produces an abnormal form of hemoglobin which is an integral part of the red blood cells

·         Sickle cell anemia which is a blood disorder that is inherited and causes deformed red blood cells

The types of bone marrow implant

There are two major types of bone marrow implant:

  • Autologous transplant – In this method, the patient’s own stem cells are used. This method is used only if the patient has a healthy bone marrow.
  • Allogeneic transplant – This process involves using cells from a donor who is a close genetic match. This method is used when the patient’s bone marrow cells are damaged.

Complications associated with bone marrow transplant:

The bone marrow transplant is a major surgical procedure and there may be an increase in the risk of:

  • Headache
  • Pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Nausea
  • Chills and fever

These symptoms tend to go away with time but there can also be other severe complications in a bone marrow transplant.

  • Graft-versus-host disease is where the donor cell attacks the body
  • Graft failure where the transplanted cells do not produce new cells
  • Bleeding in the brain, lungs and other body parts
  • Cataract
  • Damage to vital organs
  • Early menopause
  • Anemia
  • Infections
  • Mucositis
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

The age, health of the patient, disease for which he is being treated and the type of transplant are factors that affect the chances of developing the complications.

10 Most Effective Language Learning Tips

1

Some people need to learn a foreign language to get a better job, some learn languages for better traveling experience. For some learning, a language is learning a little more about this world we live in. But whatever the reason, language learning is a long process and it’s not an easy one. Many people get discouraged by the challenges it brings. If you are not one of these, here are several tips on how to make your learning more effective.

10 Most Effective Language Learning Tips

1. Set realistic, attainable goals

Learning a language is much easier when you choose goals that are perfectly reasonable and attainable. As a rule, a realistic goal is one you can achieve in a month or less. It’s a great way to motivate yourself and give yourself a reason to move on.

People usually feel optimistic and motivated when they start learning a language, but many of them lose motivation after they face first difficulties and get frustrated by them – just because other goals do not give them enough incentive to go on. A goal like “I want to learn to speak this language fluently” isn’t the best one. Make your goals perceivable and concrete, for example, “I want to read my favorite book in its original language”.

2. Remind yourself why you learn in the first place

While it may seem obvious, understanding why exactly you want to learn a language is really important. First thing you need to do is to find proper motivation, especially if you learn a language on your own.

To keep yourself motivated, write down 10 reasons why you’ve started learning a foreign language and keep it somewhere you can see it. Look at it each time you feel like you’re losing your motivation. If you feel like it, you can do a little custom essay writing to explain why it’s important to you.

3. Focus on what you really want to learn.

Use a learning style and techniques that suit you personally. It doesn’t matter whether you use online or offline resources, learn writing techniques first or just listen to audio lessons – what matters if whether it works for you.

When you choose a learning method, think of what this separate style or technique means and whether it will help you to achieve your goals.

4. Read for pleasure

There’s a reason why many experts believe that reading isn’t just an important success factor, but a process that brings the greatest satisfaction during the entire learning process.

Reading for pleasure opens up all types of vocabularies that you may not find in your everyday life, it helps understanding grammatical structures. As a result, you improve writing skills as well. The first book you ever read in a foreign language is a great achievement you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

5. Learn your words in a context

Memorizing vocabularies may be hard and tedious. Using associations may be the key element of memorizing new words easily.

The best way to enhance your vocabulary is to make sure that the words you learn are connected to certain situations or texts.

6. Ignore the age limit myth. Age is just a number

It’s a common myth that the older a person becomes, the harder it gets to learn a language.

While children and adults may learn differently, age doesn’t impair your ability to learn in any way.  No matter what your age is, it only depends on you whether you are ready to go from reading simple texts to expressive writing in a foreign language.

7. Understand your own language

You can’t learn a foreign language successfully without understanding your native language. This understanding, as well as understanding how it works is an important step to take even before you start filling your memory with foreign words and phrases.

8. Spare some time for translation

Various stages of language learning may require various methods. It’s normal to feel that the learning process slows down as soon as you reach a certain stage.

Translation is a very important tool that will help you make it through this slowdown.

9. Be careful with the “language fluency” concept

Language fluency is something many of us aspire for when learning a foreign language, but this concept is not just difficult to define, it’s also an unrealistic and exaggerated goal. The process of learning never stops, because learning a language is learning about culture, history. It’s neverending growth and self-improvement.

10. Go to a place where they speak the language you want to learn

Of course, this may not be an easy option for everyone, but if you are serious about learning a language and getting real satisfaction from what you’ve learned, you might want to go to a place where they speak this language.

Traveling makes learning more complete. Textbooks and charts, writing stories and listening to dialogues may be an easy way to motivate you to learn a language at home, but meeting people who speak it, diving in the culture will surpass it all.

Language learning is a complex, life-long process that takes a lot of effort. But it’s one of the most exciting ways to help yourself grow.

Nowadays many Bengali cultural organisations in the UK, the US and a few others countries, organise Durga Puja with a lot of fanfare. Kolkata, in West Bengal during the Durga Puja tour turns into a city of lights and mass celebrations. As the dark shield of cloud is wiped away, as the sky once again enlightens with the sun ablaze, as the doused leaves of yesterday glitter yet again under the radiance of the sun, a breath of fresh air mingled with the wild scent of flowers hit the windshield. Nature has it’s own way of preparing the way for what is yet to come. The framework which earlier held only the dried stems of paddy and bamboo, with a crust of the moist earth , now envisioned Her. Draped in a red saree, armed with ten different weapons, She is now ready to seize all the adversities of today and embellish the world yet again. Her journey in Kumartuli, begins from being a lump of earth to being the Almighty. Amidst all this, Kolkata too prepares herself to rejuvenate the five days of everlasting happiness. The lanes and by-lines which earlier had only those “office babu” neatly dressed in their suits and ties, now experiences a change in scenario. Bamboo poles held together by jute ropes, which provide the pandal a strong bedrock, is on it’s way to hit the puja competitions like the year before. Many a children with their hands clenched tight by their parents make their way up to the crowded shops to wrap up their last minute puja shopping. Kolkata gets full on prepared to look her level best this festive season. Amidst all these caricatures, the Bengali Kolkata mind lingers back to those endless stretches of green land where once upon a time Apu and Durga ran, to those enormous fields of “Kash phool” rocking back and forth with the soft breeze and to the sweet scent of “Shiuli phool” that seemed to engulf them in. With the swaying of the Kash phool, in the crowded heart of Kolkata and with the wild yet soothing scent that seemed to drench the air ’round , only the same message seems to read, re-read and read yet again. “Puja is near.”

Kolkata Pujo maps 2017- Adrenaline rush just got sorted!

The pandal which was then only a crisscross of bamboo poles running across as if to encage what lies within, is now wrapped in colours. While some with the advent of time, gets a themed outlook, some on the same stage outshine in their vintage appearance. Varied coloured lights hang off the terrace of the houses encompassing the busy streets of Kolkata. Handpicked from the sky itself the stars in the form of the coloured lights get embedded to outshine the beauty of the night sky. Sitting inside the bus and oozing out all tiredness of the bygone day, irritation hits it’s level as the bus stood there for an hour or so a few blocks away from college street, as chandeliers make their way up to college square pandal. Eager eyes watch them up close, as the trolley make its way out of the crowds, take a turn and is out of sight. Days passed like the gust of wind and then one fine day all the lights in the neighbourhood glowed and joyous cries of one and all soared up high in the sky. Children with their hands enclasped in their parents’ ran up to join the lines to enter the puja pandals. Yes, puja had finally arrived. Dressed in new clothes and shoes, with the scent of puja filling up the surroundings, with a thousand people walking up to catch a glimpse of Her tranquillity, Kolkata is cradled in the cheerfulness of the puja. While some are busy gulping panipuris , some are busy in their own little realm of ice cream, while a few others were busy over their plates of biriyani.
From morning till night, the streets of Kolkata remain crowded like never before. Amidst all this, lives a boy on the streets. Where all were in their best attire, he was left to totter in his tattered clothes. Where all were happily gulping food, he was left to search for the leftovers on the streets. Like all others, he also had a curve etched on his lips. Today, had been different for him too. He could easily find enough food to stifle the cries of his hungry stomach. Rising up early in the morning, people get ready for ashtami’s anjali. Wrapped in new clothes and with hair all wet, people reach up to the different pandals for the auspicious anjali. Nabami brings in yet another day to refill ourselves with joy once again. Being the very last day of the year’s most awaited celebration, people tend to enjoy their fullest on this day. Dashami comes with a melancholy strain. The beating of dhak, the sound of the shehenai still continue. Yet somewhere in them, remains the grief, sorrow and sadness which kindles the start of a new count for the next year. Shindur khela marks the ending of a five day long puja enrolled with fun and frolic. Maa durga is then is then set off for her journey back to Kailas. This is done by the emersion of the idol in the waters of the ganga. People visit each others houses for the purpose of greetings. Sweets are shared between each other. As if to forget the sorrow brought by the end of durga puja. All year long preparations by the pandal makers, idol makers, as well as by each and every people of the city end with a sorrowful tone. The husky voice laden on the winds, which earlier had brought in the homecoming of maa durga, now whispers, in the very same voice, “Don’t lose heart. Rather start a new count for the upcoming puja and get yourselves packed up to beat the streets of Kolkata yet again. ’Tis not the end, but the start of yet another.”

The Top 5 Old Superhero Movies

0
super hero

Superhero movies now make up their own genre within Hollywood. We’ve seen both Marvel and DC invest countless millions of dollars into cinematic entertainment. But contrary to what some younger fans might believe, superhero movies were around long before these efforts started. Truth be told, even most of these prior superhero films can’t rightly be described as “old.” But in this case, we’re defining “old” superhero movies as those that came before 2008 – when Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the DC imitator to follow.

1. Batman Begins (2005)

This is the youngest film on the list, and calling it “old” almost seems silly. But it almost feels that way given how frequently it’s overlooked in the scope of Christopher Nolan’s epic Batman trilogy. Batman Begins started it all, and while The Dark Knight stole its thunder, it’s still about as high quality a superhero movie as you’ll find. At least one publication has ranked it in the top three of all Batman movies, and when you really look back at this most prolific of cinematic superheroes, it’s hard to disagree. Most of all, it’s probably Christian Bale’s best work in the trilogy he starred in – and by extension, maybe the best single Bruce Wayne/Batman performance in a movie.

2. Superman (1978)

This is in fact the oldest film on the list, and yet it still feels oddly relevant. Indeed, even with newer Superman films having come out recently, the 1978 Superman is still the subject of its own online game. In fact, Playtech’s stash of arcade slot games includes homages to both Superman and 1980’s Superman II – right alongside another game based on Man Of Steel, which came out in 2013. It’s actually arguable that Superman II is a cleaner film, and one in which the recurring cast really came into its own. But the combination of Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, and Marlon Brando (as Superman, Lex Luthor, and Jor-El, respectively) just made for a special Superman movie.

3. Spider-Man 2 (2004)

2002’s Spider-Man holds a special place in a lot of fans’ hearts, as perhaps the first modern superhero movie in the same mold that the MCU would eventually follow. But Spider-Man 2 is the better film. It does away with the father/son Osborn drama that dominates too much of its predecessor, and its villain – Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus – is still as interesting a bad guy as we’ve seen in a Marvel movie. It’s really a complete film, and it would probably be remembered even more fondly had its sequel not been an unqualified disaster.

4. Darkman (1990)

superheroIf there’s a movie on this list that you haven’t heard of, it’s almost certainly Darkman. That’s largely because it’s not related to Marvel or DC, but is rather a sort of one-off superhero project, based on a short story by Sam Raimi. Raimi, incidentally, directed this and Spider-Man 2. Starring Liam Neeson and Frances McDormand, it’s a very bizarre film that Raimi supposedly viewed as a sort of follow-up to Universal’s 1930s monster movies. One retrospective on the film even called it Raimi’s “descent into utter madness!”

5. Batman (1989)

Before Christopher Nolan came along to reimagine the series in a dark and modern way, Tim Burton’s Batman movies were, by many people’s estimation, the best ever takes on the caped crusader. Indeed, some comic book loyalists may still prefer Burton’s more whimsical take on things. At any rate, this first effort remains a superhero movie gem. Michael Keaton was at that point the best Batman anyone had ever seen, and Jack Nicholson’s performance as the Joker was believed to be unbeatable until Heath Ledger pulled off an Oscar-winning performance in The Dark Knight.

Keeping up to date with technology

0

Keeping up to date with technology is essential for every business owner, even those that aren’t considered “technology” companies.

You deal with technology in your office productivity software, security system, air conditioning, computers and networks, phone systems, and much more. Whether it’s a simple cash register program that tracks inventory and daily purchases or a sophisticated network that links people and places around the globe, technology helps organizations maintain a competitive edge and build a strong presence in today’s business world.

In today’s experience

If you want to compete in today’s business world, then, it’s important to keep up to date with technology in order to get the most out of the technology you have, to keep abreast of emerging new technology, and to find the information that will help you make the right buying decisions.

The strategy outlined below will cost very little, if anything, because it’s based on resources that you already have access to. And once you get the system down, the time required to keep up with technology — just minutes a day — will be a fraction of it’s worth to your business.

Keeping up to date with technology

Keeping Up to Date With Technology: An Awareness Strategy

A good technology awareness strategy boils down to four simple steps:

  1. Determine your needs.
  2. Assess the resources available to you.
  3. Rank the resources in order of usefulness to you.
  4. Make or allow the time to use the resources.

Let’s take a closer look at each step.

 Step 1: Determine Your Needs

You’ll determine your needs from the type of technology you live and work with, your existing knowledge base, and your learning style.

First, regardless of the technology in question, we all need a better handle on the fundamentals, like electricity, magnetism, light, sound, fluid behavior, and other fundamentals as you need them. These are the building blocks. Knowing these basics will help you understand how electric motors work, why air conditioning cools, and so forth.

Next, you’ll need to learn more about the specific devices you use. It may seem simplistic at first, but knowing how your cell phone works really can help you.

Step 2: Assess the Resources Available to You

From books to magazines to the Internet to formal training sessions, you can find technology-related information in a variety of sources. In the next section, we’ll discuss the major categories you can look into. Explore your options and figure out which resources work for you.

Step 3: Rank the Resources in Order of Usefulness to You

The good news is that there are a lot of resources. The bad news is that there are a lot of resources. Now you have to weed them out. Choose those resources that have even a small chance of working for you, and then rank them in terms of the subject matter (some will be more important than others), your learning style, and your lifestyle (do you prefer the Internet to the library?).

Step 4. Make the Time to Use the Resources

This is where the rubber meets the road. I promise that it won’t be a big burden, but you must do it! Some resources you’ll read only once and then you’ll move on. Other resources you’ll want to keep for future reference. If you truly integrate your technology education into your daily routine, it will only take a few minutes a day.

Resources

It’s impossible to list all the resources available to you, but the following should give you a good start.

Television/Radio

Both media have numerous shows dedicated to technology — documentaries, regular series, call-in Q&A shows, news items, and more. Encourage your team to find the programs they like and that deliver the best information so they can slip them into their schedule and stay informed.

Newspapers

All the major newspapers cover technology issues in some way.

In them, you’ll find listings of useful websites, Q&A columns, user tips, and product reviews. Such regular features enable people to learn a lot from a quick glance. Make it a habit to look for them, and when you or a member of your staff run across a useful item, cut it out and post it on the company bulletin board.

Magazines

Numerous magazines cater to the technology market. Browse through some of them to determine which ones meet your company’s needs. Initiate a business subscription to the magazines your employees find most useful and encourage them to read the articles every month. For those magazines you don’t subscribe to, visit your local library every two or three months and skim the back issues.

Books

An entire “this-is-how-things-work” genre of books exists, and they are certainly worth the effort and time. Purchase a few for general reference and keep them in a location all your employees can access. Not only do such books tell you how various technologies work, but most of them also have useful glossaries and appendices that explain the basic principles I mentioned above. For information on specific technologies, check out the very popular “Dummies” and “Complete Idiot’s Guides” type of books. They’re an excellent way to get quickly up to speed on a technology that’s new to you.

Internet

Find a good search engine and learn how to use it, especially the advanced search features. This will allow you and your staff to find manufacturer’s sites, user’s groups, bulletin boards, purchasing guides, and online magazines.

People

Let’s not forget that we can learn from each other. Here are some ways you can get help from people (and maybe give some, too).

  • networking: formal or informal
  • Seminars: a good way to quickly get up to speed on a technology that is important to your business (but in which you have little direct experience).
  • Super Users: the individuals who have forgotten more than most of us will ever know about a given technology. Find out who the super users are in your organization and treat them as a resource.

Taking Control

Keeping up with technology is important because of its central role in our lives and work. Keeping up with technology is possible because of the strategy outlined above. Practice using this strategy and soon it will be as much a part of your life as your morning coffee.

It’s impossible to list all the resources available to you, but the following should give you a good start.

Put the Art and in Your Heart

0

As we age, we come to expect certain ailments. Although it can feel morbid to do so, it is fairly practical to prepare for the worst case scenario. One of the things doctors place an especially big emphasis on is the health of our hearts for those of us over 60; heart disease is the most likely cause of death for people aged 65 and over, so no wonder it is of great concern. We are always told of the practical things we can do in order to keep our ticker’s ticking – but what about the things your doctor might not tell you? It is important to enrich your whole life and make more positive experiences for yourself, not just go through the same processes.

The Practical Side of Things

Thanks to modern medicine, there is now so much advice on what we can adjust in our lifestyle in order to keep our hearts healthy. It is very important that you regularly see a doctor about any issues surrounding your health and follow their advice closely. This does not mean, however, that you can not take their advice one step further. This could mean the difference between simply changing habits and creating a whole new lifestyle for yourself.

The Fun Side of Things

For some, art is a natural calling, but for others, it takes more perseverance. The importance of actually making art, no matter how good or bad you may perceive it to be, is innumerable. The average person will not express 95% of their 60, 000 daily thoughts, so imagine how beneficial it would be if all of those pent up thoughts and emotions could be expressed through art. There has already been some research conducted into the link between depression and heart disease, and both conditions are to be taken very seriously.

What Can I Do?

As mentioned above, the type of art you choose to follow is completely up to you. Thankfully, a lot of creative outlets are encouraged online, so they can be pursued relatively cheaply. You could buy a second hand instrument and look up YouTube tutorials or simply buy a paint set and allow yourself to make a mess. The end result should not matter as much as the process – you are the one who will ultimately benefit from it, not your peers, so focus on the progress you are making, both creatively and in terms of your health.

Self esteem , what we lack , the older generations say.:

Today, when we pick up a daily newspaper, we invariably find an increasing incidence of vandalism , fraud, rape, child abuse, battered spouses, murders, hate cres, ethnic cleansing, along with a multitude of other senseless violent acts that have become disturbingly common.

These are not the actions of people who like themselves. The solutions to greet many people and their problems , whether personal or national or global has a unperturbed way.

When the significance of good  morale is well understood and it achieves the protuberance it deserves , a transformation will begin, for as the people will learn they’re deserving of self respect , their respect for others will willy-nilly increase. Most of our behavior has been shaped by our parents, caregivers and authority figures who play an integral part in our early upbringing and were responsible for crystallizing our ideas about ourselves and the world. While everyone has self esteem , only a small percentage of us have high self esteem.

Amour Propre

High self esteem denotes that we accept ourselves unconditionally exactly as we are , we appreciate our value as a human being. When on the other hand , if we have low self esteem , we believe that we have little intrinsic worth.

For the living examples, as a student everyone has faced or has friends who have been , and are panic-stricken of maths , but they were stupendous in maths till the middle School stage , gradually their self esteem  became detestable when the fact that flagged in their head “ I won’t be able to pass “ , that’s when the psychological aspect strikes  ! Giving an exam of mathematics felt like pushing oneself from a Cliff. Nevertheless , life is full of choices when it comes to education and career choices.

Amour Propre

Going back to the real aspect of self esteem in every hypothetical day to day examples of life , everyone is victimized for certain  facts of intrinsic interest . We believe our personal values are in direct proportions to the values of our accomplishments.

If we cannot accomplish certain results ,we tend to feel low about ourselves. Some of us try to try too hard to prove ourselves to other people , who doesn’t even matter , we lose our interest , we lose ourselves….!

With few genuine feelings of self worth , we try to create some and prove that we are somebody by our success and achievements. Because our desires for perfection is never ending , maybe too much influenced by fictions and Western world , but that’s how it works now ! Failing, rather than encouraging us to have more realistic aspirations, only leads to a mere punishing round of self blame and a resolve to drive ourselves harder next time.

If we do finally achieve our goals we are disappointed, despite everything we have done , we still feel empty inside. Vulnerable to influence the opinions of others, we desperately try to gain their countenance-endorsement and approval sometimes through venturesome and dangerous behavior. Thus we are at the mercy of our emotions, instead of controlling them ,we permit them to control us.

Since we allow possessiveness. Fear makes us greedy , and acquisitive, and feelings of self hate alternate with those of futility, unhappiness and depression. Sound self esteem is the basis for all self improvement.

As human beings , our potential is limitless, our abilities inexhaustible, and the possibilities for creative and constructive changes are endless. But, we don’t experience satisfactory progress towards our goals or make any lasting improvements unless we believe we deserve the good we want. Conditions in our lives will improve permanently only when we believe we are entitled to something better . So improving our self esteem inwardly is the vital ingredient for improving our lives !

Aarti Thakur, 25

In words of Aarti Thakur , one of India’s acid attack survivor :

“I could barely breathe. Everything turned silver black. I could feel the liquid seeping into my skin, causing it to melt off. I ran to a police officer and screamed that I had been attacked again,” recalls Aarti in a calm, measured voice. The damage to her face was minimised because she was wearing a scarf wrapped around it. But the acid did burn through her forearms, neck, and parts of her cheeks and eyebrows.

Three years on, Aarti, who is now 25, is fighting a legal battle against the people behind the assault, while trying to raise funds for the surgery she requires. After a year-and-a-half of seclusion in her house, she started working again and is beginning to regain confidence in her skills as well as her appearance. But she remains understandably furious about how the acid attack on her could have been prevented.

Her ordeal began in 2011, when the son of her landlady professed his love for her.job at an IT company. But she didn’t recognise the attacker and the police wrote it off as a simple case of attempted robbery.

Terrified that she had been intentionally targeted, Aarti decided to move to another suburb of Mumbai with her single mother and younger sister, who were dependent upon her. A second attempted attack took place a little over a month later. This time there was no officer at the station to take her complaint.

Aarti grew suspicious; only a few people knew where she had moved to and her former landlady was one of them. On January 30, 2012, she was shocked to spot her son standing outside her office building. The very next day, a man carrying acid worth Rs 5 (8 cents) in a bottle changed her life forever.

This time the police finally swung into action, arresting the son, his mother, and two accomplices. Offended by the perceived slight to his dignity, and jealous of her impending marriage, the son allegedly hired two men to procure and splash acid on her as a final act of revenge.

Subscribing to a patriarchal mindset where women are expected to smile demurely and quietly acquiesce to declarations of love, some men become enraged over such “unrequited love”. Nishita Jha, a writer researching gender violence in India, says: “It comes from an innate belief that you can possess the other person. The idea that the woman has agency or autonomy is inconceivable to them. Such as in a rape case, the question of seeking consent doesn’t even cross the mind.”

Concept Analysis: Aggression

0

Image result for aggression

Aggression is a noun that is generally defined as an act of aggressive behavior. Aggressive forms of behavior can be characterized by verbal or physical attack. Aggression may be either appropriate (e.g., self-protective) or, alternatively, it may be destructive to the self and other.

What is aggression?

The concept of aggression is used in many different contexts. Importantly, it has been applied to animal behavior as well as human behavior. It is used to describe personality and attitudes, as well as to characterize behavior in both children and adults.

Analysis impact

The aim of this analysis is to describe the different forms and manifestations of aggression, as well as to describe its causes and consequences in humans.  A better understanding of aggression and the causal factors underlying it is essential for learning how to prevent negative aggression in the future.

Although different classification systems for aggression have been proposed, as seen below, these typologies tend to overlap somewhat, with each system having a slightly different emphasis. The forms of types of aggression that are reviewed consist of the clinical classification, the stimulus-based classification, the instrumental versus hostile classification, and the positive versus negative classification.

Concept Analysis: Aggression

Clinical Classification

he first form is called affective,” “reactive,” “defensive,” “impulsive,” or “hot-blooded” aggression. This type of aggression is defined as a violent response to physical or verbal aggression initiated by others that is relatively uncontrolled and emotionally charged. In contrast, the second form of aggression is referred to as “predatory,” “instrumental,” “proactive,” or “cold-blooded” aggression. This type of aggression is characterized as controlled, purposeful aggression lacking in emotion that is used to achieve a desired goal, including the domination and control of others

Stimulus-based classification

Internal stimuli and external stimuli are important antecedents of aggression. He classified aggressive behavior according to seven stimulus situations that elicited the behavior. These antecedent stimuli are as follows:

  • Predatory aggression, stimulated by the presence of a natural object of prey
  • Inter-male aggression, stimulated by the presence of a novel male con specific in a neutral arena
  • Fear-induced aggression stimulated by threats and always preceded by escape attempts.
  • Irritable aggression, stimulated by the presence of any attachable object. The tendency to display irritable aggression is enhanced by any stressor, such as isolation, electrical shock, and food deprivation.
  • Territorial aggression, stimulated by the presence of an intruder in the home or territory of a resident
  • Maternal aggression, stimulated by a threatening stimulus in the proximity of the mother’s young
  • Instrumental aggression, stimulated by any of the situations already described, but strengthened by learning

When is aggression a serious problem?

All children have to learn how to deal with anger and frustration. Many toddlers go through a phase of temper tantrums, where they yell and scream and swing their arms and legs when they’re upset. School-age children may throw things or get into a fight on the playground. As they grow, most children learn from adults- and from other children- how to express anger or handle conflict in a way that doesn’t hurt others.

What can increase the risk of aggression in youth?

A child or teen’s home life and other surroundings can raise the risk of aggression. Children may become aggressive if they:

    • See violence in their neighborhood.
    • Feel pressure to join a gang.
    • Live in a home with weapons.
    • Use alcohol or drugs.
    • Are being bullied.
    • Live in a home with parents who are aggressive, have marital problems, or have a problem with drugs or alcohol.
    • Spend a lot of time without adult supervision.
    • Have parents who discipline with harsh language and spanking.
    • Watch violent movies or TV programs or play violent video games.

How can you prevent aggression in your child?

      Set rules and consequences

      • Make house rules for your family. Let your child know the consequences (such as loss of certain privileges) for not following the rules.
      • If you say you will take away a privilege, do it. It can be hard to follow through when your child says he or she is sorry. But your child needs to know you mean what you say.
      • Create a chart with rules and chores for younger children. Your child can earn stars or other stickers for completed chores or good behavior. These stars can be turned in for privileges, such as more play time or a game night with the family.

Demonetization and its Impact

When PM Modi announced that Rs with the denomination of 500/- and 1000/- would cease to be the legal tender from 9th of Nov, the whole country was stunned. This decision caused sensation in the whole country. Social Media was flooded with messages and information. People started counting the trash they had accumulated for years legally or illegally.

What it actually is?

Rumors became rife. Some tried to invest their dying currency in gold. Some contacted their near and dear ones in this miserable hour. People could get only Rs 4000/- of old denomination exchanged with the new one. Big queues before the banks and ATMs became the order of the day.

Instead of getting shorter, these queues were getting longer with every passing day. The last date for the whole process was 30th of December. The persons could deposit the old cash worth Rs 2.5 lac till the said date.

Demonetization and its Impact

Objective of demonetization

The main objective of this move was to curb the black money, corruption and fake money menace. All the people but those who were indulged in malpractices welcomed the move. The whole opposition shook hand against this move under one pretense or the other. They called this decision a draconian law and wanted the govt to roll back it. Tirades were made to target the decision. Govt also carried out counter attacks.

The new currency which replaced the old one is of denomination of 500/- and 2000/-. Though the people faced a lot of inconvenience owing to shortage of funds, they did not criticize the govt for the move.

He further said he was aware the hardships they were suffering from but he sought only 50 days for setting the things right.

The most interesting thing regarding the demonetization was that people had devised various unique methods for transforming their black money in to white one. Some of these methods were as follows –

  • Depositing money in the accounts of their poor relatives and friends.
  • Enticing the people with some percentage of money for exchange.
  • Asking their employees to stand in the long queues in front of Banks and ATMs for getting money exchanged.
  • Hiring labors for some Rupees ranging from  Rs 500/- to 700/- for becoming the part of long queues in front of banks/ ATMs.
  • Converting black money in to gold.
  • Paying a few months salaries in advance.
  • Paying back loans forcibly.
  • Using their influence / links with bank employees and so on.

Impact of Demonetization on Indian Society/ Economy –

  • We shall see a great impact of this move of the Central Govt on Indian Society and Economy. The first impact shall be that people will have lower expenditure power. With that they will not be able to purchase luxurious things.
  • There shall be no ostentatious expenditures on marriages and other ceremonies. So the society will grow lesser materialistic and people more prudent. With the fake money destroyed, Indian economy will see a big boom and the so-far-booming-real-estate-sector shall fall on the ground.
  • The things may be cheaper. Indian Currency may get respect at the international market. There may be a great check on the terror-related funding and therefore on terrorist activities. Corruption shall be down to a great extent as people will stop the tendency of accumulating money using wrong means.
  • This big move will certainly abridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots. However, there may be some difficulties for a couple of months. But this inconvenience shall be temporary and for short-term.

Demonetization and its Impact

Merits of Demonetization

The demonetization policy will help India to become corruption-free. Those indulging in taking bribe will refrain from corrupt practices as it will be hard for them to keep their unaccounted cash.

This move will help the government to track the black money. Those individuals who have unaccounted cash are now required to show income and submit PAN for any valid financial transactions. The government can get income tax return for the income on which tax has not been paid.

The ban on high value currency will also curb the menace of money laundering. Now such activity can easily be tracked and income tax department can catch such people who are in the business of money laundering.

The demonetization policy will force people to pay income tax returns. Most of the people who have been hiding their income are now forced to come forward to declare their income and pay tax on the same.

The ultimate objective is to make India a cashless society. All the monetary transaction has to be through the banking methods and individuals have to be accountable for each penny they possess. It is a giant step towards the dream of making a digital India. If these are the merits, there are demerits of this policy as well.

Demerits of Demonetization

The announcement of the demonetization of the currency has caused huge inconvenience to the people. They are running to the banks to exchange, deposit or withdraw notes. The sudden announcement has made the situation become chaotic. Tempers are running high among the masses as there is a delay in the circulation of new currency.

It has deeply affected business. Due to the cash crunch, the entire economy has been made to come to a standstill.

Many poor daily wage workers are left with no jobs and their daily income has stopped because employers are unable to pay their daily wage.

The government is finding it hard to implement this policy. It has to bear the cost of printing of the new currency notes. It is also finding it difficult to put new currency into circulation. The 2000 rupees note is a burden on the people as no one likes to do transaction with such high value currency. Some critics think it will only help people to use black money more easily in future.

Further, many people have clandestinely discarded the demonetized currency notes and this is a loss to the country’s economy.

Conclusion

Economists are busy in listing out many more merits and demerits of this policy. The government is saying that there are only advantages of demonetization policy and this will be seen in the long term.

However, if we compare the merits verses demerits, it will be safe to conclude that the former outweighs the latter.

Even though there is suffering and agony among the masses right at the moment but the forecast is that its benefits will be seen in the long run.

The government is taking all the necessary steps and actions to meet the currency demand and soon the trial and tribulations of the people will be over with the smooth flow of the new currency.
