Excuses for Not Doing exercise

Doing exercise at home

Everyone wants to be fit and in shape, but achieving that requires time and dedication. But how many of us are actually ready to give what it takes? Not everyone wants a body like a fashion model. Some just want to be healthy. But Every day we find out innovative ways to avoid exercise. It’s something new every time. The following are just some of them. Now, if you are already in a habit of exercising regularly, this is not for you. You have already achieved what a lot of us are still trying to get. Still just read and enjoy this article.

I’ll Start from Tomorrow:

No, you won’t. This is the biggest lie you tell yourself. Unless its 2 O’ clock at night, act now! Every time you cannot lift a moderately heavy box, you feel miserable and think it is time to change. And you decide that you will start tomorrow. But that tomorrow never comes. Next day you have early classes in college, the following day you have an assignment to finish. The endless row of work weakens your determination. So, the best time to start is today, not tomorrow.

I Missed Exercise for Three Days, But I’ll Make It Up on Sunday:

You shouldn’t. Our body is not made like that, if you give too much pressure in one day, chances are, you are going to get too tired for everything for the next few days. Our body has a limit of withstanding wear and tear, and when you cross that limit you are in trouble. make a schedule that is comfortable for you to follow and then stick to it. You don’t need to work-out daily, few days a week is a great start. That’s better than being forced to stay in bed after hurting yourself by trying too hard.

Let Me Sleep a Little Longer:

5-1

Let us listen to the story of Mr. X. One day he wakes up at 6 o clock for a morning walk. then he thinks ‘’ it is still early; I’ll sleep for another thirty minutes.”. But when he’s finally awake it is 8 in the morning. Now, he is late for his office so he has to cancel that walk.

Is this story relatable to you? This has happened to all of us at some point of time. We promise ourselves that we will do something and then sleep gets in the way. Not going to sleep early makes us late risers, people who wake up early feel that they have more time for work compared to someone who stays awake till late at night. If you sleep early you are more likely to go through your daily workout routine.

I Don’t Have Time to Go to A Gym:

Well, you don’t need to. There are plenty of other options for you. You can try yoga, or you can opt for jogging. There are various activities like swimming that relaxes your mind while you burn your calories. You don’t even have to go outside. You can install an app in your smart phone and use that as our guide. Exercising can be enjoyed. So it’s no longer something you dread every morning.

I Am Exhausted by The End of The Day So I Had Enough Exercise:

Well, if you are a student or an office worker or anything else, even if you lie down all day, your body is going to get tired. There are two types of work, physical and mental. The work that requires your using brain can be as exhausting as actually moving your body. But that doesn’t burn the calories half as much. So, if your daily work involves a lot of sitting around on a chair, take time to exercise.

It’s Impossible to Follow a Diet In My Daily Life:

7

It is true that sometimes, what we eat all day is not exactly in our hand. the food that is prepared in your home, or the lunch you get from office, is not always ideal for you. But you can try a bit everyday to overcome that. Try to reduce the sugar content in your drinks i.e. tea, coffee, fruit juice, cold drinks etc.

Start from one meal every day, instead of eating oily fast food and snacks that makes you happy, try eating a fruit or fruit salad. Eat slowly so you can understand when you are full and can avoid those last few bites. If you are hungry at odd hours drink a glass of water instead. As you already know, water is your best friend.

That was all for now.  There are probably hundreds of more reasons (read excuses) for you to not to try. But think of the moment when you try a branded shirt from the shelf of the store and your belly fat is nowhere to be soon. Or think of the beautiful red dress you couldn’t buy because it made your arms look fat. Aim for the next festive season or your birthday, and start your quest for a fit body. If your body is not habituated to this, make sure you start with a low pace, otherwise your muscles will be sore the next day and your will for working out will fade very soon. When you are fit, you feel great inside. That makes you smile more and that in turn makes you more likeable to others. You do want that, don’t you?

Domestic violence against MEN

0

Did the title of the article shock you? Do you think domestic violence against men is non-existing?

stopviolence2

Over the period of years we have been talking about gender equality. But are we really getting to it on real terms? Let the truth be spoken this time, that too loud and clear. It’s high time; the Indian Government should start addressing to ‘domestic violence against men’. Domestic violence across the world is referred as a criminal offence, which affects a person’s well-being in every way. Be it physically, mentally, emotionally or psychologically. Various countries around the globe have identified domestic violence against men, a crime and measures to provide relief and protection from it. India being a democratic country has laws for women suffering from violence, then why not men? Why is domestic violence in India not recognized for men?

Any kind of violence is a serious social issue. But men who face domestic violence in India have nowhere to go since the law doesn’t treat them as victims. In most of the countries, there are laws for men and women both providing them safety against violence. Men can also seek restraining orders from courts, which restrain the abusive partner from abusing. Whereas in India, violence against men are almost legal because there is no provision in law to protect a man who faces violence from his wife or any female partner.

Many a times the husbands suffer serious injuries, mental trauma and also get killed in some cases. This situation is mainly because of the mentality – which says men are stronger than women and are capable of defending themselves with physical force. Just like women even men find it difficult to get out of an abusive situation or relationships.

You might be experiencing domestic violence if your partner –

  1. Tries to physically and forcefully control how you spend money and wherever you go.
  2. Gets angry without any reasons and starts throwing things at you unnecessarily.
  3. Starts hitting or even abusing if not satisfied the demands.
  4. Blames you for her violent behavior and says that you deserve it.
  5. Threatens to physically hurt you.
  6. Hits, slaps, choke, shoves or threatens to hurt you or your children.
  7. Threatens of violence with a harmful weapon.

Why do men suffer domestic violence in silence?

  • Men fear of charges – most men face the biggest fear of getting slapped by the court with a dowry harassment case. The cases also tend to carry on for years and later are almost always in woman’s favor.
  • Feel ashamed – many men feel ashamed at being beaten up by women, or feel that they have failed to serve as the protector for the family.
  • Denial – men believe that they can help or change their abuser, but change can happen only if the abuser takes the responsibility to change and seek professional treatment.

Domestic violence can leave men with depression and anxiousness. Men usually don’t talk about violence with their partner; they shy away from seeking external help because of the ‘men are stronger than women’ conception. Men avoid sharing their problems, which is the biggest mistake they make. They think that the society would pass judgments of him not being efficient enough to control her female partner in the relationship.

learn-to-say-no

Men should always remember that, if you’re being abused by your wife or any female partner, seeking help is always the best option. Start by talking to friends, relative or a healthcare provider. At first it is going to be difficult but once you start talking things will fall into place. You’ll feel relief after receiving much needed support.

It’s the Small Things That Count

0

Since our early childhood days, we had been taught to always aim “big”. ‘Dream big kids, the sky is your limit’, our moms and dads would always say, “I want to have a big house”, “I want to have a big car”,” I want to have a big amount of fan followers”, “I want to be successful big time”, etc. were the things we would tell our peers, parents, relatives and anyone who asked us what do you want to do in life?

However we quite failed to define what this “big” actually meant, and consequently in our race to pursue this “big” dream, we chased nothing but an empty space occupied by an undefined idea. We were so blinded by this idea of “big” that everyone and anyone would want to do things that were big, and however continued to ignore the small things that counted.

The same goes for love, when we fall for someone we always have a very vague idea about how it would happen, thanks to Bollywood, majority of us have always imagined of love as this big thing. Where songs play in background, where everything happens in slow motion while the lovers meet amidst the beautiful scenery of Switzerland. See big idea of love again!

When in love we aim to do great things for our better half or the person we have feelings for, there is nothing wrong in that, but we often forget the small things that count.

What are these small things? And why do we undervalue them? It is not our fault as it is something that comes in built. For example proposing someone for marriage is always considered something like a big step, but what after that? Does our love end with this big step?

What if I tell you every step in a relationship is the one which makes all the small steps big, the way you do it and how you do it counts, again it need not be big. Just a good morning text, with a have nice day, or I love you can make your lovers day. And don’t do this occasionally make sure its everyday, because that makes the other realize how their day starts with you. Well there is nothing cheesy about it. Followed by a goodnight, even if the two of you haven’t spoken the whole day, because it shows that no matter how busy you two are, your day ends with thoughts about each other.

cofeeThere are many small things that we ignore but they count, trust me it can vary from saying “you look great” even if your partner is a total disaster, a small hug when they feel low, a cup of coffee when you see them distressed, a stroll in the park when you think he/she is having a bad day. And even sometimes just listening to what they have to say about the horrid experiences of the day. Cooking your lovers favorite meal, it does not have to be restaurant quality, the amount you spend on it and your concern is all that matters, however, girls and guys out there, do appreciate when your partners make a special effort for you, they might not be master chefs, but however they love you too much to make such an effort. Even when ordering food sometimes compromising what your better half or your lover wants to have for your choice might be a small step, but shows your care for the other and their happiness.

Appreciation does not necessarily mean lying all the time, or reciprocation, while guys have a hard time being expressive trust me as easy as it looks it is not easy for girls either. Sometimes just saying I can’t believe you did so much for me, or what have I done to deserve you? Yeah this might sound cheesy, and might not be what you are trying to say, but when you say it the other might be on top of the world, on cloud nine, just happy they are appreciated by someone who matters.

fighting-edit_We all are not billionaires, that we can afford all the five star restaurants for dates, sometimes a stroll on the beach along with eating “bhutta” or roasted corn can be a very romantic experience, or for that matter ice “golas” or ice candies, when both of your tongues are nothing but a colorful rainbow, and you just laugh at each other. Sometimes a power cut can be a great excuse not for grumbling but a candle light dinner at home, yes it might be 40° Celsius, outside but its great excuse for date at home, no matter what age you are.

A cup of tea early in the morning together, or coffee, keep your newspapers aside for god’s sake, and just talk. Trust me the world can survive without you not acknowledging what happened for a couple of minutes. Make a no phone policy when with your partner, you might be VP in some hot shot bank or even some very important minister, or the most popular one in your college gang. But when your with them make sure your just with them, because they are your special ones, this does not mean a total give up on your phone, that would mean toppling down of your world, but just surrendering it when you two want to share some quality time.

small thingsFights can be “big”, but it is just the small steps which help you solve them, when I was a kid and mom and dad had a fight, no matter how harsh it got they would always set the dinner plate for the other, even when in their silent zone, just a silent reminder of how they care for each other.

Even if you are not married just a small question like, did you have dinner? Did you sleep well? How are you? It does not demean you, or is not beneath the self respect, and trust me, do not confuse your initiation for sorting out the fight as a question of hurting your ego, it is not. It just shows you’re a more mature person then your partner. Never make fun of your partner’s weakness, not everyone is perfect, you might be better at something than them, help them rise, don’t demean them, relationship is equality, don’t demean their incapability, but appreciate their capabilities.

Hence these might just be small things but they have a long lasting impact, however this does not mean that you do not give big surprises to your better halves or anyone you love for that matter, but only when you don’t crave or do it for something in return remember it is only love when its selfless, I know the idea seems too utopian for this selfish and pragmatic world, but hey who said love was ever so easy, because if it is not selfless it is not love and hasn’t Bollywood actually taught us love is not logical, it truly is not, because it is made of feelings, and searching for logic in feelings would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

“To be brave is to love unconditionally, without expecting anything in return” – Madonna

My friend’s wedding

My friend’s wedding my nightmare begin

One call from my friend, that brought happiness and nightmares hand in hand. “Riyaaaaaa….I’m getting married,” her voice was so loud that I could have heard her shout directly from her house which was almost two kilometres away from my place. Anyway let us not concentrate on the speed transmission of her voice.

I knew what would be mummy’s reaction when I went to give her this news. “Good, at least your friends are obedient to their parents, but in my case I can just pray to the Lord.”

Yes this is my mother, who wants me to get married like tomorrow, if given chance. You see how parents dread those situations when all the girls of their daughter’s age are married or getting married. There is nothing different in my story, only here I’m more stubborn (sarcastic).

The very next day, when I was least prepared I was getting cladded in mummy’s lemon colour sari. I was happy to wear it as it was one of my favourites from her wardrobe, but not so happy to know the reason behind it. I know you all must have already guessed this, I was being fed with some instructions that I should be polite and open my mouth only when I’m asked for, that the one who is coming to meet me is nothing less than the most eligible bachelor and blah. After an hour or so, finally the bell rang, as I was going to open the door, my mother pulled me back with a jerk. “Are completely insane, you should not open the door, you should walk in like a regal princess when we call you,” saying this she went to open the door but not before making sure that her drama queen was already inside the room. After some formal greetings and discussing about the bad climate and never ending traffic, I was called. Thankfully it was nothing like, “Beta thodasa chalkar batana.”

As I came out, I lost the only zero percent interest I had, now going down to minus. He looked like a nerd who had just finished the last chapter of integration and derivatives. “Are beta you both feel free to talk, if you want take him to the balcony not that we mind.”

Meanwhile, in the balcony, we sat around the small terrace garden of my house. May be he was not sure what to say, but when he opened his mouth that was the last time I heard him. “Hello maam, myself Mr Rajan Gupta.” What was that…what ma’am, did I heard him right, what he is here for…a job interview. I knew the next few minutes I will just observe the beauty of my dead rose sapling that I had planted a few months back. Rejected.

He was a topper from IIT Delhi, how can you plainly reject him without giving a second thought, he had also got full marks in mathematics in his matric year beta,” mummy looked more hurt than that perspective groom’s parents. “Mummy I want a life partner and not a maths tutor, stop fretting like this” being born sarcastic I could never seal my big mouth.

Few days later, as I was wondering how my mother gave up this groom hunt another blow came my way. “Open this laptop of yours, I will show you the best thing this technology has created,” I was not really prepared but I knew something was not right, yeh toofan ke pehle ki shanti thi. “Okay now click on this site yes, now you will see how upgraded your mother is.”

banner1I saw a close up picture of mine, on the corner of my laptop screen and other typical details like height, weight, and colour shade and in the end my hobbies and qualification. She had created my account in some damn matrimonial site, now this was the last thing I had expected. “See this generation wants to be in the virtual world no, that is why always busy on Facebook and Whatsapp, so here it is…look chat and select.” My meh face said it all.

As I was about to close this preposterous site, a message popped up in my chat box, well what is the harm in chatting, it is not like I will be married off tomorrow…okay if my mum wants then even that can happen.

Rohan Sarin: Hey hii…Rohan here.

Riya Sharma: Hi

After these initial greetings, he went on and on about his qualifications and likes and dislikes in between asking me the same. I was not really bored but still he was not that interesting.

Me: Okay Rohan you see, whatever you told me that is already mentioned in your profile, tell me something that I don’t know about you or not written in your profile.

He: Well I’m an open book. Winks.

Me:  Too bad because I hate reading.

The sarcastic bone of my body was trying to stand now, making me the most brutal person on the earth.

He: Oh I see, anyway can I ask you something? Why have you put up this close up photo as your display picture? You should have kept some full length picture.

Me: Now how does that matter, and anyway this picture is kept by my mummy.

He: Of course it matters a lot. Many pretty faces wear the double XL clothes, I want someone who wears S or even M is fine by me.

Dude, you would have had it from me if you had said this thing on my face, but now I didn’t wanted to break my laptop screen.

Me: First of all this is not a boutique and secondly it is not your fault, all dogs like bones.

He: Excuse me!

Me: No don’t just excuse yourself also please GET LOST!

Rejected, not only the boy but this whole idea of matrimonial site. I tried to make my mummy understand that things will happen when they are destined to, you can’t simply rush to it. I know being a mother she wanted to see her daughter as a bride…married…happily settled in her life. I assured her it will happen one day for sure. Looking at her expression, I knew she was not completely happy but I think she gave up to some extinct only till my phone rang again and yes, it did just the very next day. The screen flashed Tanu’s name, my childhood friend.

“Riya, ‘m getting married.” All I could say was, “Oh shit, not again.”

Imprisoned Soul

Imprisoned Soul #I’m human being first

Before I start I want you to do this following things ;

Just imagine wherever you are going there is always an eye staring  you making weird faces even sometimes making fun of you, Not Cool isn’t it?

Now imagine you are not allowed to enter certain places like hotels, picnic spots or even some temples etc…Disappointing isn’t it?

Now lets imagine you have to leave your family, your beloved ones & your city and you have to stay to some other place ,no its ain’t hostel you have to stay there until you die..Sad isn’t it?

okay the last one, Now imagine you being as a Transgender what a transgender, what the hell I’m talking about, but yes the things I have asked you to do in beginning they were all for just a second still I know you have found it so absurd….But that is something faced by every transgender in our society everyday & that all was just few one I have listed there are many more….

You might be thinking why I’m telling all this, this is because today I have experienced something that really hit deep inside me making me so clueless I started interrogate myself “the society in which I live is it really full of humans or just they claim to be human?”

transgenderToday when I was in train on my way to work I saw a Transgender I found it lil weird because I saw a girl with her in school uniform  I went towards them, I asked her why this girl is with her  & her answer left me speechless she said ,” Beta I know why you are confused I had not kidnapped or done anything wrong with this girl…I found this girls left alone to die in a dustbin at the time she was born, I know what it feels like to be left alone as I have no one I’m stuck in this society but I’ll not let this happen with her from that day I had decided to nurture  this child educate her I’ll give her all happiness what she deserves ; she is my daughter I’m not her biological mother still there is something that ties me with her & I guess that’s “humanity” I’m human first than a transgender “ as her one sided conversation ended all I could do was simply smile& said I really respect & appreciate what she is doing, until I could speak anything else their destination arrived that lil girl wave me a-byee” and they went away. I wonder in world where no one wants a baby girl that transgender is nurturing a girl even though she has nothing Strange isn’t?

Today  we talk about “Equality” we want equality in everything equality in speech, equality in freedom of equal access to social goods and services, We talk about men women equality , a term “feminism” is getting common now-a-days it’s the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. We all are fighting for our rights since very long time and we have achieved somewhat but have we taught about the transgender who are dealing with lots of difficulties too but they don’t have anyone to fight for them they can’t even complaint for that there are certain laws for them but they are not enough even they too deserves a lot. There are some transgender who are appreciated for incredibly doing fantastic in many fields we have to encourage more of them. In many countries lots of laws have been made legal for the transgender now its time to bring a change in our society too because being A Transgender is secondary they are a Human begin first.

Disarming stereotypes

2

Has it ever occurred to you that probably you are born in the wrong community? Like you are a Punjabi but should have been born in a Bengali family or a Bengali but your heart goes out to Tamils? India does have variegated and rich cultures but have we been able to accept and respect this beautiful diversity? In metropolis like Mumbai, the strength of those judgmental Indians could be less compared to the rest of India. I am basically addressing this article to the struggling, confused and desperate youth of our country who are torn between the choices they want to make for themselves and the choices their community makes for them through their parents and family.

I am a Marwari and I am not studying commerce. I am not doing CA or MBA or CFA or CS or any of those money making degrees. When distant relatives come to my place they ask me what am I doing? Is it CA or MBA? Some go as far as assuming I must have cleared CPT or IPCC (1st two stages of the three of the Chartered Accountancy course) and they ask me when are my finals due? When I tell them I am not studying commerce their pitying glances initially used to make me furious but now I pity their narrow visions. I remember one incident when I told one of my cousins that I am studying arts, English literature to be precise, and she was appalled. Her spontaneous response was, and I quote her, “par tum to padhai mein achi thi?” which translates as “but you were good in studies?” It was a rhetorical question.

What is your priority in life

There are thousands of other students like me who want to break such stereotypes but do not have the courage to. If you are a Marwari and all your Marwari friends are studying commerce and your family wants you to follow their footsteps but you feel you are not meant for it then don’t go for it. If you are a Bengali and your family wants you to do engineering or study arts but you have the business streak in you then go for it! There are countless students who follow the herd under pressure from the family or otherwise.  But think about it, even you end up successfully completing the course which you were never meant for, what is going to happen?

You will work 30 days a month. You will be ecstatic on one of those days when your handsome salary gets deposited in your account, but what about the 29 days? Will your grill yourself in and out, sweat and bleed for something that makes every single pore in your body unhappy? Have you come to this world to live an unhappy life trying your best to please others and dance at their approval of your choices in life? Countless incidents have been recorded where students go into depression because of the pressure or because of failure. How many people in our country can say that they love their jobs? Most don’t love the job, they just love the money that the job generates at the end of the month.

Be a ruler and conquer your own world

India is a country with the population of a billion. Imagine the amount of talent that this country is literally blessed with. Then why do so few people opt for music, photography, wildlife studies, astronomy, pet grooming, food criticism or any of those unconventional career lines? Some will blame the education system which focuses more on rote learning and teaches you how you can and should become a doctor or an engineer, some may put forward a rational argument stating what kind of careers will one have even if one decides to take their passions that seriously.

Yes, I am not a counselor and I cannot answer for everyone. In many cases finance or something else does become a major issue but my experiences in life have taught me that there still are innumerable students who can excel in something they love to do but they are scared of the society. This article is for them. I read these lines somewhere and they are etched in my memory “You’ll waste a lot less time worrying about what others think of you if only you realized how seldom they do.”

Your passion may not be something grandiose. It could be as simple as being a pre-primary teacher because you love children or being a cook in a restaurant because you love to cook. You may not get some national award or a ‘Michelin star’ for doing what you are doing. But you just have one life to live. It is you who is going to decide whether you want to live for yourself or to appease those relatives and friends who have their own lives screwed up. They will never applaud your efforts no matter what you do. And even if they do, it shouldn’t matter. Happiness is a decision, a choice. It may not pop out of the blue but it will come tip-toeing in your life and settle under your roof!
