It’s not about eating. It’s about using the food to deal with anxiety and stress.

Food is just a fuel not therapy and there is difference in tapping into a food inherently calming properties and using any food as a kind of emotional anesthesia.

The daily hassles of life rises cortisol level which causes food craving. As per researchers of the University of California at Sans Francisco Medical Center, in women craving is for sweet food and then cortisol trigger an enzyme in our fat cells. Visceral fat cells have more enzymes than subcutaneous fat cells.

Stress cause women to accumulate fatter belly. The more is the stress, the more abdominal obesity occurs. There is a lot of food whose consumption can help in reducing the stress level.

  1. CHOCOLATES

To reduce the stress level especially the dark chocolate is consumed as it lowers the blood pressure and contains more polyphenols and flavones.

The Marksman

The green mountain grass wobbled to the rising wind. The temperature was dipping with the dipping sun, sending the fugitives of the forests to their cosy homes for a little warmth and rest. The cold mountain air swept through the myriad forest, whistling eerily to the otherwise silent hillocks. A bunch of bats took to their wings in the search of belly filling supper.

The last rays of the fading sun were all that were left to the lonely marksman as he adjusted himself to the plummeting mercury levels. The thick green foliage efficiently camouflaged him in the jungle vegetation. With the anterior of his torso kissing the hard forest floor, he rested on the cliff scavenging the view below through the telescopic sight of his SV-96 rifle. His eyes were bloodshot and tired. He had been invigilating incessantly at the lake that stretched at the foot of the mountain for the last 18 hours. As he eased his sight, a pair of sparrows brushed across him, chirping to each other delightfully.

They were heading home.

“Home,” He thought. Beside him, a heap of dry grass swept to the wind, as did his thoughts….

Just a few years ago, life was so different. He was a blissful man. He had a caressing mother, an inspiring father, a loving wife and a couple of beautiful daughters. Life ran in perfect harmony, pampering his little heart with small joys and felicities. He was ignorant, childish, uneducated, illiterate, and immature and loved being so.

But his happiness was short-lived. Gods seemed to envy his felicity and prosperity.

An owl, a little distance away, hooted bringing back the marksman to his senses. He adjusted the gauge, aligning it with the double cross-wire of the telescope and strained one of his eyes to it. He peeped through the lens, there was nothing in sight.

“Patience”, He whispered to himself. Patience. Patience…

The Marksman

He had been patient too long. His patience had cost him his land, his home, and even his wife. His land was looted, his home was plundered, his father was enslaved and his wife was killed. He stood helpless, as they poisoned the land and water of the clan, contaminated the harvest of the tribe, and snatched the cattle from the shepherds. In vain did he run for justice, tangling himself deeper and deeper into the intricacies of law? His lawsuits cost him more than just his fortune. His elder daughter and mother were sacrificed in his battle to justice. He felt suffocated, heavy, dejected and defeated…

One such day, he sat on the brink of the lake brooding over the unfair misery befallen to his life.

His little daughter was the only family he was left with. He couldn’t afford to lose her too.

“What more are you willing to lose?” he heard a stern voice directed towards him.

As he tingled his gaze, he saw a dozen men pouring out from the jungle. Well built, and dark-skinned they were clad in khaki outfits, each carrying huge rifles in their arms, their faces beamed with a sense of pride.

“They call us mercenaries, Naxals, Maoists, communists…… but we too are people like you fighting for our rights. Pacifism will never bring you justice but radicalism will.”

The Marksman

Their leader announced as he handed him a rifle.

That day he was a changed man.

He soon found out that he was better with gun than with words. He had innate talent in manoeuvring it to accomplish his tasks. Vengeance quenched his thirst for justice. Soon he gained respect, pride and a meaning in his life. His indisputable prodigy in hitting the targets with ease, accuracy and precision, earned him the name “The Marksman”

Focus. He reminded himself to concentrate his straying mind on the task at hand. Darkness had completely befallen the land. The moon seemed to play hide and seek with the ebbing and flooding clouds. Stars blinked in the eastern sky as if acknowledging his presence. Fatigued, he checked his watch; it had been full two hours since the sunset. He longed to go back home but he couldn’t.

He had learned from his informers that a few government recruited spies had infiltrated into the forest, to gain clandestine information about his brotherhood. All of them had been either captured or neutralized except for one rogue who fled from their clutches. He was a potential threat, too sensitive to be compromised, hence needed to be sabotaged.

The marksman had stationed himself near the lake because he knew, how clever the agent might be, he had to satisfy his physiological needs i.e. thirst which would unflinchingly draw him to lake.

However he had been preying at the lake for the last 20 hours without any luck. Stretching his limbs further, he tried to ease his gaze and laze.

In the shadows below a silent silhouette lurked in complete silence…

The marksman adjusted his gaze as he felt something move in the pitch darkness. He could now see a dark outline loiter, canopied in the vegetation. The gait of the creature wasn’t of any animal, his fingers tightened. Though he could see the spy, he couldn’t get a clear shot and risking an imprecise shot after such long wait was completely a wrong call.

He waited for the spy to break out of the foliage towards the lake. Patience.

A moment later, the spy entered the clearing. Without wasting a second more, the sniper took the shot. The bullet ricocheted with a heavy thud, hitting at point blank.

Perfect shot.

The victim fell helplessly to the ground, uttering his last cry.

Lifting his rifle, the sniper carefully walked towards the lake to verify the accomplishment of his task. It took him half an hour to reach the spot. Approaching the target, he lowered his gun. The victim had fell face first, revealing the back to the marksman. However it didn’t seem to be the body of a man. Frenzied, he turned the body.

His eyes froze as he stared into the face of the deceased. His heart felt heavy, pounding harder and harder. His hands shivered, the rifle fell from his hands. His knees wobbled. A sharp pain shuddered his chest. His bloodshot eyes were flooded with tears. His voice refused to utter a sound. He collapsed onto the ground beating his chest heavily with his hands.

The Marksman

He uttered a loud cry as he failed to stare into the lifeless eyes of his daughter. The dark brown eyes seemed to question him. He tore his matted hair crying, wailing and screaming. A little distance away, the earthen pot, meant to fetch water, lay shattered. And so did his life.

Scanning blankly for help, he saw the fallen gun. The very rifle which he had adorned to save the last essence of his life had taken it away from him. Irony.

Moments later a second gunfire resounded through the forest, breaking its taciturnity. However this time, the deceased didn’t need an introduction.

Get Up And Fight

be strong

She stares at the mirror- mascara running down her face, hairs must not have seen a comb in ages, same clothes since two days, swollen eyes, shrunken face and well, a broken heart. She stares at the ghastly image of hers. She realized what a mess she is- inside and out. She cries harder. She is tired of fighting.

Get Up And Fight

Her phone beeped. Messages and missed calls go unchecked since two days. But today she decides to check her phone. She goes through her log. Missed calls from mom, dad, best friends, college mates, ex-roommate, school mates, brother and Oh! the never ending list. Checks the inbox, and finds her father’s message at the very top. It read: “Beta you haven’t talked to us in 2 days. Is everything okay? Well I know everything is. You are my strong girl. I know you must be busy. Mom is too worried. I keep telling her not to because our daughter is busy making us proud. I love you beta.”

Two big drops of tears land on the mobile screen. She put her phone down. Looked at the mirror again, ran to the bathroom, had a nice shower, put on new clothes, combed her hair, put some make up on, went out and ate till she couldn’t force another bite down her throat, came back, and texted her father : ‘Dad, I’m alright. I’m grand. Yes I’ve been busy, had to make some tough decisions. Your girl is going to make you proud. I love you both. I’ll call soon.’

12 years later, she brings her parents to the screening of the movie based on her first ever bestseller, in a car that she gifted her father, and her mother stealing the spotlight with the beautiful silk saree and the diamond jewelry gifted by her daughter, and her little brother with a proud smile on his face.

Get Up And Fight

You fall, you get hurt, you’re betrayed, you’re pushed down and further down. You get up, you rise and you fall again. Then you stand up again and you fight, again. Who told you life was going to be that easy? Who told you would face the sufferings just one time? No. It won’t end and you cannot give up either. There are some choices, some paths which are greater, more difficult and never easy. It’s all about the choice that you make. You can choose to end it once and for all, because you’re so darn weak. Or you can choose to keep fighting till you know you have deserved to get what you’ve always wanted. But besides that, what you need to understand is, it is not about you every time. Fight for the ones who do not deserve to see you quit. Fight for those who never knew when to stop loving you. Fight for the ones who never thought they must have done enough for you and that they don’t have to anymore. And also, fight for the ones, who never believed in you. Because the reward of choosing to fight, would be everything you must have ever wanted from life.

bad relationship

A good relationship is that which should enhance your life, makes you happier and boosts your self confidence.  Love, trust, compassion, compromise and respect make happy and balanced relationships in life. LOVE may happen in the most unusual ways with people you could never imagine yourself with. Just because of our sheer curiosity to fall in love or because we need the presence of a guy or a girl in our life, we can’t claim as being in love. You will encounter your soul mate eventually but first things first, don’t just fall for anyone. However, a lot of us don’t even recognize if we’re in love with the wrong person…

  1. They don’t respect you

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

You may love them with all your heart, and spend all of your time on your partner, but they just don’t reciprocate. They only spend time with you when it’s convenient for them. it feels completely one sided.

Everything in love is about priorities. If they truly love you, it doesn’t really matter how busy they are, they’ll take out enough time for you to see you smile. They’ll never make you feel like you’re being ignored or there’s something more important than you.

  1. Not being yourself

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

You can’t be yourself in front of them. Someone who truly loves you will accept you for who you are. You don’t have to pretend to be someone else fearing that they won’t approve of who you really are.

  1. You are not happy with them

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

You may love them from all your heart, but you don’t love how you’re treated in the relationship. They don’t acknowledge all the efforts you put in for them. They don’t even care about your feelings and respect you as a person.

  1. Emotionally unavailable

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

Your partner chooses to be distant and is emotionally unavailable. Their whole life is a mystery to you, a world where they just don’t let you in. There’s a lot you want to do for them but it seems they don’t want your love.

  1. They don’t trust you

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

They are constantly doubtful and insecure about your loyalty. They don’t trust you and there’s only so much you can do to make a person trust you.

  1. Possessiveness

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

Sometimes they’re possessive and that too to an obsessive level, leaving you with no personal space.

  1. Not having a real conversation

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

You always feel that conversations with them are never satisfying. They hear when you talk but rarely listen and absolutely have no interest in knowing about what you want to do in life, how your day went or how you feel about them.

  1. Not interested anymore

8 Signs you are in love with the wrong person

You don’t even remember the last time you shared a moment with them. You don’t look forward to meeting them anymore and you just don’t feel good about yourself when you’re around them; in fact all you think about is how to avoid arguments and fights.

Moving to a new place

0
travelling

There is a notion about life that however hard it is to blend in the surroundings, it is harder to leave it. We get used to everything around us, sometimes even subconsciously we will inevitably go to the familiar point in concern. Nevertheless, adapting to a new set of social norms and expectations, while being true to you, is never easy.

write-up-203

New opportunities waiting for us to be explored. That’s what life is.

Some of us might be shifting to live in another house due to several possible reasons. The current place where you have lived for many years is still easy for you. But the transition needs to be made. Learning about the new environment in advance will be helpful but if it is not the case, it is fine with starting to familiarize with the standards and opportunities to connect.

If the change involves a move to a new city, state or country we need to get out and explore. The more we know our way around, the more comfortable we feel. On the first day to the new job, it is important to keep in mind that whatever uneasiness I feel towards my colleagues, they are uncertain about me too. It will take time to build myself a strong platform by their support.

write-up-202

Change in place is not associated with the change in location only because there are many contexts to it.

After marriage, a woman leaves her childhood home and moves to live with her husband and his family. She has to adapt herself to everything and also needs to be strong and steady about herself. In today’s scenario, both husband and wife are working to live efficiently. Although nobody can take the place of a woman’s responsibility and sensibility but considerate and humble gentlemen are coming forward to share the everyday responsibilities. Better education and respectable morals has a major hand in this increased awareness. They both start the new chapter of their life together. This change in their lifestyle from their respective previous lives was possible when they decided to move forward and become a support for one another.

Be strong in life!

People suffering from some emotional stress and pain need to close the door to the past and step forward in the future. It is definitely not as easy as being said but taking the first step is all that is needed. After that the passage of life will open itself in front of us clearly. We just have to be determined enough to take the first step.

   write-up-201

We keep moving forward because we are keen to learn more; enthusiastic to see more and strong to feel more and this curiosity makes us move on.

That’s How She Met God

Once upon a time, she sat under a tree. Free spirited and innocent. Unaware of the world outside, she laughed, she skipped and she smiled. Education had not weighed her down yet. No sir, that road was not meant for her. She was Mamma’s little angel and Daddy’s little princess.

She bore neither evil nor any good. Her innocence was her only superpower. She thought nothing bad could happen. She loved God and she was sure that He loved her too. At least that’s what Mamma told her every night before bed.  Daddy would get her dolls and Mamma would sew her dresses that would put any princess to shame.

She did not live in a castle, but her childhood was her beauty after all. She would look at the butterflies and wonder if she could fly.

She knew happiness bore no boundaries, and that life was meant to be carefree.

Until that fateful night when she lost it all. Her innocence, her happiness and her parents. The water splashed in the middle of the night. She thought it is over, but life had a funny game planned for her. The night of the tsunami was the least horrid thing that could happen.

She saw her mother go pale. Daddy had to leave, he said he had to go get her dolls. She held the forever silent mother tightly and said God would protect her. Her prayers did not last, the beloved mother now turned into ash. That night she lost it all, her mother, her childhood, and her happiness. Her life welcomed with open arms the evil that would now befall.

That's How She Met God

Daddy said he was sending her to a new home where there would be plenty of dolls. Where the house was like a castle. It is God’s home, he said. The God will be a human just like you and me. However, you have to obey him, for whatever his order be.

She was excited, she knew she could meet her mother now, and meet the person who would love her the most. She was meeting God.

The castle was beautiful, so were the people. God had a little princess in his lap, who was beautiful as ever. God paid daddy well and thus left the father his princess into God’s care.

Yes, she received love, so much that most of her skin was now purple and red. Each night she slept well because her tears accompanied her. Before the sun rose she would rise. She had to take care of the little princess after all. Else, God will be angry and will punish her. She had forgotten the warmth of the embrace of her mother, Daddy was right, they gave her plenty toys to play with, the mops, broom, a real kitchen set and beautiful clothes she could play along with the soap water.

The days of her life passed. When she was a child she was of some use, but now she was old and not so energetic. Something had to be done. God threw her out of the castle. She never understood why. She obeyed him all the time, so why would he ask her to leave?

She walked around hungry, eating from garbage piles. And one day she saw herself in the water and asked “If this is God, then what is bad? If that was God then, who is the demon?”

But then one night, tired from the “good” in the world, she heard her mother’s voice, it came from the lake nearby. She walked towards it. She no longer knew what was true and what was a mere illusion. Hence here she walked, not caring, becoming the person she once was. She kept on walking deeper in the river as her mother’s voice grew louder. Finally, she woke up into her mother’s embrace, and now she knew that God truly exists.

It is strange how a small hobby can turn to your passion and you deliberately try to improvise it. The same happened to Arya when her first poem won the literary award, she knew there was something very soothing about writing. It gave her a way to express her thoughts more vividly and bring her imagination to life. The shaping of imagination molded her to be a better person, but she knew that this was just a new way of learning. The learning was a never ending process and she had to keep it at a smooth moving pace.

andaleeb-759She became an avid blogger and soon people started recognizing the potential she had, maybe she always had it, but what held her back was the lack of confidence in her own writing that backfired her ideas. Many times it happens that we are good at something but just the fear of rejection makes us take a step backward. We feel that there are many out there who may be better at this than I’m, but you need to give away these thoughts and take a risk to get somewhere. Arya took it, she accepted that whatever is happening now is just the beginning of a bigger dream to be fulfilled. She knew she wanted to be a published author one day, she wanted to convey a story to this world.

She wanted the reader to live and enjoy her imagination, this would mean success to her. She accepted the challenge, and as it is said, hard work pays off. The lone time in front of the laptop, cups of coffee one after another, just to keep the mind fresh and thoughtful, breaking strings from the world to get fully involved within the life of her novel characters. This sounds to be fun and interesting but actually living through it, needs a higher level of dedication and morale. After the draft was ready she still was just a half way around, waiting for someone to read the manuscript and taking feedbacks was also a difficult task. Visiting the publishers and facing rejection was never an easy thing, but even the diamond has to go through cutting and crimping to emerge perfectly.

Now, today after two years of struggle, she finally held the copy of her first book. The cover page of it was just the way she wanted and reading the name of author brought a hundred billion smile on her face. The frustration of being rejected by publishers and the criticism she faced had finally turned out to make her a better bestseller. Her debut novel had hit it off well and it was a long way to go.

Suicide- Is that even an Option?

6
suicide hanging knot

The most ubiquitous news that we hear nowadays is about the teen who under parental pressure, due to humiliation by the school authority, because of getting low marks (according to his/family’s expectation) decides to buy a perfectly strong rope from the market, hang it up on the ceiling fan of his room, and.. you know the rest. The question is that how is the meaning of life so insignificant and so insubstantial for the young generation? Why do people devalue their life and play it like a game? Is Suicide even an option?

Life is so much more than the mark-sheet of a particular class, grades of a mere semester, a failed job, a rejection, a heartbreak. Life is way more than all of that. It is way bigger than the timid obstacles.

The concept of ‘survival of the fittest’ is not just for the wild. It is very much applicable to the human race- Life is not a bed of roses, it is a roller-coaster ride with its ups and downs. It will hurl at you stones that you’d need to face with the skin of your teeth, it will pierce you with arrows that you’d need to fight with all the will and strength you possess. Only then will you be able to enjoy the rainbow in the sky.

Giving up is just not the solution. Ending up one’s life or in common language committing suicide, just shows how weak one was, how incapable one was to face the problems that everyone else is facing too. When others are able to battle with their issues, why can’t you do it? People don’t understand the repercussions of their cowardice. The pain that they inflict on the mother who stayed up all night healing them, on the father who worked more than his capacity to pay for their education, the sister who wanted to hug them after her school, the friend who always helped them out of the meager issues, the teacher who wanted them to stop the city and so many others attached to him is immeasurable.

Life is not so hollow as you consider it to be. Suicide is just not an option. Open your eyes to the little pieces of joy around you. If there are a dozen reasons to be glum about something, there are hundreds of reasons to be smug about. Just begin to search for happiness and it is bound to come your way. Garner all the strength you have whenever you feel dejected and morose. Breathe the wind that caresses your skin, feel the sunshine that lights your way and touch the sky to achieve your goals. No one’s life is perfect, you just gotta make it worth living.

Dil-wali Diwali

Before I begin I want you to tell me few sentences on Diwali. Like what comes in your mind when you hear the word “DIWALI”.

  • Diwali the festival of lights. ( The very first I know)
  • Celebrated in commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman from 14 years of long exile.
  • New clothes, accessories, sweets, firecrackers.
  • Diwali vacation. (If you’re student)
  • Diwali bonus. (If you’re earning)

A Pakistani Hindu woman lights earthen oil lamps on the occasion of Diwali in Karachi, on October 26, 2011. For Diwali, the festival of lights, people honour the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, decorate their homes with flowers and diyas (earthen lamps), and celebrate the homecoming of the God Ram after he vanquished the demon king Ravana. AFP PHOTO / RIZWAN TABASSUM (Photo credit should read RIZWAN TABASSUM/AFP/Getty Images)

I’m sure one of the above thoughts of us might have got similar cause this is something that Diwali means to us. We see Diwali in all such things and have been celebrating our Diwali the same way from ages. But why not do something different on this Diwali…???

This idea crossed my mind after reading a Whatsapp status of my friend.  It was,

“Best of Diwali…Unlimited fun…Mastikhor batch…Dilke_sacche… LOL moments…games n much more…In orphan kids, we found our family…Dil ko soon… #Diwali celeb #Spread Happiness Feel Happiness”

people-enjoying-diwali

As he is away from his family he knows what family means, so he decided to visit the ones who are deprived of the feeling of having a family or home, where they can celebrate Diwali.

So guys why not you and I also do something different on this Diwali? Instead of burning crackers, let us just burn the demon inside us. Let us do something selfless just like our soldiers are doing at the border for us, without expecting anything in return.  Do as much as you can, make your surrounding mates happy by doing even the simplest thing that you are able to do.

“ Be someone’s smile who wants to cry…

Be someone’s courage who wants to try…

Be someone’s hope who is falling apart…

Be someone’s light who is stuck in the dark…

Because it’s always these little things that touch someone’s heart.”

Dil-wali Diwali

Festival of lights VS Darkness in the society

What are you doing this Diwali? Bursting crackers? Contributing towards noise pollution and air pollution? Diwali 2016 has changed things in so many ways. From boycotting China products to setting out deadlines for bursting crackers, certain things have changed but some are still the same. While we are celebrating Diwali – buying new clothes, shopping for gifts, bursting firecrackers, visiting friends, buying sweets and the list can go on. Most of us are busy celebrating Diwali with our friends and family, therefore we miss out to notice the darker side of this beautiful festival. By darker side, I don’t just mean air and noise pollution because of the firecrackers.

diwali

We celebrate Diwali because of the victory of good over the evil. Diwali is celebrated because on this particular auspicious day Lord Ram had returned from his exile after 14 years. We beautifully lit up our houses with ideas (oil lamps) and lightings. Cleaning the house before Diwali is almost like a tradition that all of us have been following since years. There are two types of people during Diwali – there are people who spend thousands of money on firecrackers, shopping for new clothes and buying gifts. Then there are the type two people who make our Diwali actually happen. They are the ones because of whom we enjoy this festival to the fullest.

Firstly, I am totally against bursting crackers especially the loud ones. Secondly, during Diwali, there is a high demand for crackers in the market. To satisfy the demands of the market, the firecracker companies hire children – these are the underprivileged children who immediately join such companies thinking that they would earn some money and celebrate Diwali just like other people. There are again two things that are happening over here is

  • Child labor

    – child labor is a criminal offense in India. The child and adolescent labor act of 1986 prohibit the employment of children under the age of 14 years.

Workers making the Fireworks in a small room inside the factory

  • Hazardous chemicals

    – children who are working in such companies are risking their lives because the chemicals that are used to make crackers are extremely harmful, which needs to stop.

Most of us celebrating Diwali, we do not remember that for these poor child-workers there is hardly any festival and lights.

Animals, infants, and sick people are highly affected by the loud noise of the crackers. Animals and infants get extremely scared because of the loud noise.

3

So this Diwali lets’s celebrate the Eco-friendly way. Spread love and happiness. Share sweets and positive vibes with your loved ones and the less privileged kids. Say NO to crackers, take care of the environment. There is so much more to do without harming the environment.

Have the safe and Happy Diwali!
