Movie Riview of “Split”

0

The initial  hour of M. Night Shyamalan’s new flick Split, made audience terrified.  The writer, who is also the director of the movie , had viewrs exactly where he wanted them to be. Emotions like tense, shutting  eyes in anticipation of gore which dissapointed and didn’t come, even gave a little shallow breathing because it made viewrs was so frightened that the three  girls locked up in a basement would die slowly and horrifically at the hands of a man called Kevin, who is inhabited by 24 kinds of distinct personalities.  The director used the camera and characters to create nightmares, which he does best.Movie Riview of "Split"

That too of course has never been satisfying for the filmmaker.  He insists on collecting myth about how one becomes stronger due to suffering. Kevin suffers from dissociative identity disorder. At one point, his therapist enquires wether  these individuals through their suffering unlocked the full potential of the mind.   The flick is also made as an origin story for Kevin’s 24th personality that being a beast which is a character who has superhuman strength and the power to walk on walls and a taste for human meat. The Beast says lines like: “The broken are more evolved. Rejoice.”Movie Riview of "Split"

As you can easily imagine, this scenario and story goes from being frightening to stupid pretty quickly.  There’s also thing icky in the total set-up , for no logical reason, the three girls were asked to strip and the camera’s gaze starts to feel exploitative.  What keeps the film from getting totally derailed is the performance of James McAvoy who is at places exagerrating but hypnotic.  He switches between Kevin’s many personas with a skillful seamlessness.  Barry(one of his personalities) the fashionista and Hedwig the 9 year-old who asks for a kiss are most creepy but most compelling.Movie Riview of "Split"

Marvelous Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey, a girl having a past who doesn’t fit in at school but seems unmistakably capable of taking on a beast. Anya looks haunted.  Her big black eyes are so pained that she unsettles viewrs without saying a word. Do not miss this movie!

Q) Karan Johar knows secrets which could be marriage-breaking and career ending. His stories in his book might overlap with someone and unintentionally reveal secrets! Did he take permission from other people before writing his book before spilling the beans?
A) Karan frankly says “No, not at all!”. He says that it was very clear that the book was his journey, his feelings, his thoughts about himself and it was not facts about other people. It was his equation with other people so it had nothing to do with facts or truths of other people.

Q) Did he take permission from people like Shahrukh Khan, as he wrote about his misunderstandings with him?

Things About People Who Love Horror Movies

0

The world is full of nice people made of sweet, spice and everything nice. But the adventure lot, is made of that scary feeling, the chills and everything ghostly.

According to me, movies can be categorized into good, bad, average and horror. Because, horror above everything else, bro, please! You would give up love walks or family talks for your late night horror movies. And that’s just the start…

  1. “What movie do you want to watch?” Anything horror!

Your world has no other genre, just horror. “What movie do you want to watch?” “horror” “Which one did you see the other day?” “Horror” “Which one did you like the most?” “The conjuring.”

Because that’s your answer to everything.

  1. Romance, A BIG NO! Thriller? FINE.

The closest to horror can possibly be a thriller/suspense movie. Not like you’re not a romantic one, but you love the chills during a horror movie more than kisses during a romantic movie.

  1. Dark room, and your favorite blanket. That’s your thing.

Unlike other people, you love dark rooms, haunted places and everything. There is your specific way of watching horror movies, dark room and your favorite blanket, may be one of them.

Lights on while a horror movie is a feel killer!

  1. *Screams during the movie* Come on! You can’t fall for that.

You could be as serious as you want in the day, but when it comes to some movie dates or hangouts to haunted places, messing around with other is your thing.

Your evil prank could be as small as shouting in someone’s ears while watching a movie, or as big as pretending to kill someone on the street, just to frighten your friend. Too much mess!

  1. Too much drama, I can’t breathe!

Drama is one thing, you don’t care much about that. But people who walk into your room and act like they want to watch the movie with you, and then they spoil the movie with their useless drama. Like, “oh God! please stop, I can’t watch it” “Can I please switch on the lights?” and “It’s for adults, we can’t see it.”

Grow up peeps.

  1. Nothing beats the ADRENALINE RUSH!

The best part about it is them scary feels, followed by the adrenaline rush. The movie can scare you to bits but even that wouldn’t stop you from watching it.

  1. *googles* best horror movies; “ watched, watched, yes, yes, OMG are there no movies left in the world”

You have almost seen all horror movies, of all times, and just can’t have enough. Everytime there is a movie plan, you would search for horror movies, and then get disappointed because there are no horror movies left in the world. Sad!

  1. Not many people know that the WBC count actually increases because of watching horror movies!

Yes, it’s scientifically proven that watching horror movies actually increase your WBC count. WBC’s are the soldier cells in your body that protect you from invaders like viruses and bacteria. So watching them does you good, go watch one now.

  1. Going to Bhangarh Fort? I’m in!

All the haunted places and all the graveyards, you want to go to each one of them. There can be no plan made without you, if it includes places like Bhangarh fort in India, etc.

  1. I’m blessed by satan!

Sometimes you feel that you have some different kind of blessing, by satan. Also, when you did something extremely evil ,you’ve been lucky. Weird? Yes.

THE VIKINGS

0

The Vikings had significantly influenced the English language and literature. During the long winters, when people were confined to their homes, Vikings were kept alive for centuries in the hearts of the Scandinavians by the storytellers’. But this Viking culture and their stories began to fade from the people’s mind as most of the people illiterate. During 13th century, Christian churchmen taught the Icelanders to write and this rich heritage got fortunately saved by them. A great blooming of Viking age literature took place through the writings of Snorri Sturluson, an Icelandic writer. Some of his works are Poetic Edda and Prose Edda (about Norse mythology and heroes), The Heimskringla, about the kings of Norway and most likely, Egil’s saga. Thus most of the things we know about the Viking Age comes from these Icelandic collections of poems, tales, sagas and stories. Most of this Norse literature was written in the vernacular, the language of Iceland, which was remarkable for middle age.

Let’s see who the Vikings were actually! Vikings were Norwegians, Swedes and Danes men who raided and traded wide areas of northern, eastern and central Europe during the late 8th to 11th centuries. The Vikings were known as Ascomanni (ashmen) by the Germans and Dene by the Anglo Saxons. They mainly speak the Old Norse Language. They had advanced seafaring skills and attacked many places on the coasts as they were easy to reach with their swift and easily landed ships. They looted and killed the communities so fast that there was no chance for even thinking about any defense or counter attack to be made. They usually raided when they were not busy in farming or plantation and usually came back in time for harvest. The people called Vikings were fearless explorers who quickly make Iceland it’s most important colony and were the first Europeans who actually reached North America under Leif Ericson, heir to Erik the Red and set up short lived settlements. Leif Ericson was the first known explorer to discover America even before Christopher Columbus.

The Vikings were also competent traders and merchants who traded furs, amber, iron, timber at North and silver, gold, silk and spices at the South. The Scandinavians totally changed the history of Ireland, England, France, Russia and other European countries. These aggressive men challenged and conquered many lands terrifying people for a significant period of time. For 300 years, churches and monasteries would pray to be spared the “Wrath of the Norsemen.” Vikings took slaves after raiding who were always welcomed in the slave markets of Constantinople and Baghdad and gained huge profits through slave trading. Their weapons were swords, axe, spears and round shield of protection along with the iron helmet. The most expensive weapon was the Iron sword. The warfare of the Vikings were often propelled by their beliefs in Norse religion, especially Thor and Odin.

Literary Influence:

By the late 9th century, Viking controlled virtually the whole eastern half of England that left a lasting impact on the English language. Many English words originate from Old Norse such as thrift, thrust, they, there, then, skirt, sky, skull, skin, skate, skid, anger, knife, leather etc. All these words reflected their lifestyle and origins. Even the names Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are named after the old Germanic Gods that both the Anglo Saxons and Vikings believed in. Also several place names on the west coast of Southern France might also be the result of Vikings invasion.

The Vikings also have rich culture in stories, tales and heroic poems. There were two types of Norse poetry: Skaldic and Eddaic. Skaldic wrote verses honouring King or a patron whereas Eddaic poetry could be on any subjects such as humour, romantic, heroic etc.

Social Background:

The society was divided into three classes: Thralls, Karls and Jarls. Thralls were lower class or slaves. Karls were free peasants. Jarls were the aristocracy who engaged in politics, hunting and sports. Women were free and in absence of a male head, an unmarried woman with no son could not only inherit the property but also the position as head of the family. Those type of women were called Baugrygr. Women could divorce her husband and remarry and could also cohabit with a man and have children without marrying him, even if that man is married to someone else which is known as frilla. There was no distinction made between legitimate and illegitimate child. Women had active participation in poetry, medicine and trade. They can also be oracles and priestesses. But these liberties disappeared gradually from 13th century after the introduction of Christianity.

Their cuisines includes meat products, sausages, seafood, bread, dairy products, vegetables , berries and alcoholic drinks like beer, mead, bjorr (a strong fruit juice). They practised various types of sports like wrestling, stone lifting, mountain climbing, swimming, horse fighting, hunting etc. During festive occasions, storytelling, skaldic poetry and music would lit up the atmosphere. They considered music as an important art form and played various instruments like harps, lutes, lyres fiddles.

Vikings had same clothing styles: men wore a thick shirt known as a tunic over trousers. Women wore one long dress, floor or ankle length, with an apron-style dress over it. Underneath these woollen garments, both men and women wore linen undershirts or shifts. There is also slight evidence that Swedish Vikings tattooed themselves.

Therefore, The Vikings Age have such a strong influence in the European, American and Russian culture that even today they influence many creative works which includes novels such as Frans Gunnar Bengtssons’s The Long Ships, movies like The Vikings, Erik The Viking and also a recent popular historical drama TV series called  Vikings. There is also a Marvel comics superhero named Thor, based on the Vikings God and last but not the least there is also a music genre named Viking metal which is a subgenre of heavy metal music.
