Right to Information

Right to Information

“The Father of India”, Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The real Swaraj will come not by the acquisition of authority by a few, but by the acquisition of capacity by all to resist authority when abused”. He wouldn`t have visualized then that his country would have to make a law to entitle the people to know something as fundamental as seeking information about the development of the country. On 12th October 2005, a new era of the empowerment of the common man in India begins, when this “Right to Information Act” came into existence in our country.  It is applicable everywhere except the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

What is Information?

First, we should be able to know what information really means? Information can be defined as “any material in the form of documents and records, opinions and advice”. Information is power, and the government wants to share this power with those that are poor so that they can be enriched with this power. It is basically for this very reason that the Right to Information Act has been self-possessed for us.

What is the Right to Information Act?

The Right to Information Act is sanctioned by the honorable Parliament of India. It gives the citizens of India the access to records of the government including both the Centre and the State Government. This act applies to all parts of India be it state or Union territory, except to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, since it is enclosed under the State level law. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has its own RTI act, which is known as the “Jammu & Kashmir Right to Information Act“, which came into existence from the year 2009.

Right to Information

The Right to Information Act is relevant to all the constitutional authorities, including the executive, legislature, and judiciary. Any institution or body established or constituted by an act of Parliament or a state legislature comes under this RTI Act of 2005. Under the furnishing of this Act, any Indian citizen may request information from a ‘public authority’. These public authorities are required to reply within a period of thirty days.

The Right to Information Act gives the citizens the right to:-
1) Inspect work, documents, and records
2) Taking notes, extracts, or certified copies of documents or records
3) Taking certified of materials
4) Acquiring information on disks, tapes, video cassettes or in any other electronic mode or through printouts

Why is there a need for Right to Information Act?

The Supreme Court has observed that Right to Information is a part of Righ to Speech and Expression which is our Fundamental Right.

Democracy is a government for the people. The common man is the master while the government exists to secure this common man. Ours is a representative democracy. We elect our representatives, who then rule us in our name. The Government of India runs on the money paid by us, the people, in the form of taxes. Shouldn’t we have a right to question them on what decisions they take on our behalf? Right to Information Act gives the citizens the right to ask the government about it.

There is no doubt that a silent revolution in the form of Right to Information campaign is sweeping across the country. We are all aware of the corruption that has pervasive in our system. How often have we heard our elders say “it is impossible to get any work done in any government without paying bribes? God help us if we refuse to pay bribes! Unnecessary objections will be raised and we will be running around in circles!”

Hold it! Now we have an option! We don`t need to pay any bribes to any government department anymore to get our legitimate work done. The Right to Information Act give us the authority to know the status of our grievance petition and the name of the officials who have been sitting on our files. This really works wonders!

Thanks to the Right to Information Act, matters which were in cold storage for years and years have been resolved. Now electricity connections, replacement of faulty meters, rectification of faulty water bills and many other works. These works could now be done as soon as the people filed applications to know the status of their applications and the names of officials sitting on their files.

The Right to Information has redefined the relationship between the people and the government. Earlier, people had to run around government officials to get any work done in that area. Not any area! The Right to Information provides such critical information and evidence in the hands of common hand, that our bureaucrats cannot shirk their responsibility and hide in their cozy offices anymore.

This act has been used extensively by the non-governmental organizations, individuals, and even the media to extract official information that affects our day to day lives. Of course, defense secrets and strategic information cannot be made public. But if money has been spent to build a road where none exists, we have the Right to Information Act which can help us fight corruption and prevent misuse of taxpayers money.

As people become more and more aware of the Right to Information Act they can get empowered to ask questions.

“This is inevitable; it is long overdue, and the public has a fundamental right to have access to information”.

Educational Board – ICSE or CBSE!

0

With the new session about to start in a couple of months and with new childrens ready to go to school, the parents must be sure  what is right for their child! Every parent want their child to get a good education. So, the debate in every household begins with what is the right educational board for their child?

Educational Board

There are only two educational board that we have in our country leaving out the state boards – ICSE(Indian Council of Secondary Education) and CBSE(Central Board Of Secondary Education). Both these educational boards are very different regarding the academic sectors in India although the subjects taught in both the boards are same. Which Educational Board you should get your child in? Which one is better – ICSE or CBSE! We, here are going to layout some of the major differences between these two and leave it out to the parents to choose the best one for their child.

ICSE Educational Board

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education(ICSE) came into existence through the University Of Cambridge in India. ICSE is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, which is a private and an all-english medium educational board in India. The syllabus of ICSE is vast and differs from CBSE in terms of its content and volume. There is an ICSE examination towards the end of tenth grade and an ISC examination towards the end of 12th grade. The syllabus followed by the ICSE board is more inclusive and complete when it comes to comprising all the fields with equal importance.

Educational Board

Subjects are taught only in English in ICSE and a candidate who is studying in an ICSE affiliated school can only appear for the examinations. Though ICSE is considered harder than CBSE or any other board in our country but the amount of knowledge an ICSE student gets is immense. Though the knowledge is immense but it may lay extensive burden on a child as he has to study around 13 subjects in sixth or seventh standard as compared to 7-8 subjects to be studied in CBSE.

ICSE is not recognised by the Indian government but is recognized all around the globe, mainly foreign universities and schools as compared to CBSE`s recognition only in the sub-continents. A career in English Literature or English language is more suited for an ICSE student. Students from management or humanities sections find the curriculum under the ICSE board more challenging and interesting with more knowledge being gained. The ICSE students till now had a disadvantage when it came to competitive examinations as the syllabus in those would be that of CBSE board and the ICSE students weren’t able to perform well due to that. But recently the Ministry of Education of India has stated that the competitive exams will now be conducted by a committee comprising of equal number of representatives from each educational board. So, the ICSE students are now no longer at a disadvantage.

CBSE Educational Board

Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) is the main educational board in India when it comes to school level education. This board of education conducts the All India Senior School Certificate Examination every year for the tenth and twelfth grade students. The CBSE syllabus is very easy as compared to all other boards including the state ones due to lesser number of subjects to be studied by the students and its compact structure. CBSE offers both Hindi and English medium as the medium of instructions as well as private students to give CBSE board examinations unlike ICSE.

Educational Board

Instead of studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology as separate subjects in ICSE board, here we have them all under Science as a sole subject and similarly History & Civics and Geography fall under the general umbrella of Social Science compared to two separate subjects in ICSE board. The students of CBSE do not have much practical knowledge as compared to those of ICSE due to its curriculum which focuses on application based. The subjects are approached in a theoretical manner and hardly any emphasis is giving to real-life concepts behind the science. The knowledge provided by CBSE board is limited only to the curriculum and does not go beyond it unlike ICSE where knowledge is beyond the curriculum. Students of CBSE have enjoyed their advantage when it comes to giving competitive examinations especially the IIT exams for undergraduate engineering admissions but they would no longer have that advantage from next year onwards.

Though both boards have an almost equal number of pros and cons, thus the choice of selecting which educational board their child should be admitted, solely depends on parents and their vision for the future of their child.

Why Social Media is a boon for Introverts?

1

Social Media has played a major role in improving introverts life. Today almost everyone uses Facebook, Instagram and many other social networking Apps. We all are different and we all are unique. Social Media has given an opportunity for everyone to feel like celebrity J. Today people spend most of the free time looking at Facebook post/video etc.

I have noticed few days ago that my classmates who were shy, silent are posting pictures/videos which shows their self-confidence. It takes a courage for introverts to be social. Introverts generally are reserved and restrict themselves to certain people, they do not talk much and they prefer to stay alone.

Here are few things Introverts do on social Media and how it helps them

Writing Posts

Many of you must be posting selfies on Facebook/Instagram. People write quotes to reveal their state of mind. They expresses mood, places they are visiting and much more. Introverts normally feel shy if other clicks their pictures. Smart phones today have given this opportunity to clicks pictures with front camera. Everyone clicks pictures and posts it. This is how introverts can take pictures and post it so that people can have a look at it. They feel confident about it.

Hitting Likes/Comments Options

As I have mentioned above introverts do not talk much in person and remain alone. Social media has given chance to them by providing likes/comments features. They can like pictures which says all. They can comment to post. This shows that they saw it and they are in touch with their friends.

Why Social Media is a boon for Introverts?

Using Messengers

Some people like to call and some likes to message. It depends on the context. Here is where messengers can be used. Introverts can message friends/ family members/ relatives whenever they want. It’s not always necessary to call everyone. So they drop a message and stay happy in their zones.

Reading/Watching Videos Online

Watching Videos can be influential/ funny etc. Depending on mood introverts can select the video and play. They can enjoy on their own without having others company. Blogs have become a medium to gain knowledge.

This is how social media has been transforming and changing lives of many introverts and other people all over the world. If you know someone whose life had a positive impact with social media, do let me know in comment section below.

Let me know how Social Media has benefited you.

Mithali Raj – “India`s Pride”

3

In today`s world, when we talk about women’s empowerment, one of the names that come to our mind is of Mithali Raj. She is the role model for many young girls to fight hard against the odds and to take the career that you wish to pursue. She has this tremendous attitude of, “The question isn`t who`s going to let me; it`s who is going to stop me.”

Who is Mithali Raj?

Mithali Dorai Raj is the Indian Women`s Cricket Team Captain in Tests and ODI. She has been regarded as one of the best to have ever played the women`s cricket. This can be taken from the fact that the “The God Of Cricket”, Sachin Tendulkar, himself praised this girl from Telangana as a “tremendous athlete” and one of the best to ever play this game. India might have lost a close World Cup final against England last year but the Indian women’s are being praised not only in India but all over the globe. Mithali Raj, who leads the Indian Women`s Cricket Team was chosen as the Captain of the World Playing XI of 2017.

Early Days of Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj was born on 3rd December 1982 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She like his idol Sachin Tendulkar started playing at the age of 10 and made her debut in the international circuit at the age of 17 against the team of Ireland in the year 1999. She used to practice with boys in the Keyes Girls High School, Secunderabad and used to give them a tough fight and was often praised by them as a wonderful player.

Mithali Raj as an International Cricketer

Mithali Raj would have been the youngest player to have ever played cricket at the age of 14 in the international circuit if she would have made it to the 1997 World Cup when she was in the probable playing eleven. In her debut match itself, she scored a blistering 114 runs. She made her test debut two years later in the year 2001 against South Africa at Lucknow. She broke the world record of scoring the most runs in an innings of a test match of Karen Rolton`s 209* by scoring 214 against England. Her record, however, got broken in the year 2004 by Pakistan`s women cricketer, Kiran Baluch by scoring 242. She used to bowl leg-spin in the early days of his career but now majorly focuses on her batting.

Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj played her first Women`s World Cup in the year 2002. Along with the incredible batting skills she also has remarkable leadership qualities. She led India in the 2005 World Cup where Indian team reached the finals for the first time but lost against Australia. This marked a new beginning in women`s cricket in India. Her composure at the crease even during tough times and her confidence along with the ability to score runs at a brisk rate makes her one of the world`s best batsman to have ever played this game. India won her first ever test win and series win against England in England in the year 2006. Later, she went to lead Indian team to win the Asian Cup for the second time without even losing a single game in the entire tournament. She played her 6th World Cup this year in June and led the team for consecutive 5 World Cups. She scored the second highest runs in this World Cup and helped India reached the finals of the World Cup but couldn`t score well in the finals against England. India lost against England in a close finish which might be her last World Cup and she would have wanted to have won this one, the only cup which has stayed away from her in her tremendous career.

When asked about her role as captain of the team in an interview, she said, As with me being the captain, I don`t try to show that I am the dominant force in the team. I try to be one among them. That is how you develop a rapport and be approachable as the captain. With this bunch of girls, I have made an effort to interact more, crack jokes with them and make them feel at ease”.

Mithali`s Records

Mithali Raj is currently the No.1 batsman in the world with a rating of 703. She is the only batsman to have scored 6000+ runs in the women cricket with 6 hundred and 49 fifties in her close to a two-decade career. She has played 186 ODI matches, 63 T20I matches and 10 Tests matches for India. She held the record of scoring the highest number of runs by an individual in a World Cup ODI match when she scored 91* in 104 balls against New Zealand in Women`s World Cup 2005 which was broken in 2005 by Harmanpreet Kaur of India. She holds the record of scoring 7 consecutive half-centuries which is the most by any women cricketer. She holds the record of playing most number of Women`s One-Day International for a team (109). She is the first Indian and 5th women cricket to score more than 1000 runs in World Cups. She is the all-time leading run scorer for India in ODIs, Tests and T20Is. She is known as the “Tendulkar of India`s Women Cricket”.

Awards Mithali Raj won!

Mithali Raj

Mithali received the Arjuna Award in the year 2003 by the Government of India in recognition for her achievements in sports. In the year 2015, she received the Padma Shri which is India`s fourth highest civilian award.

She is and will always be remembered as the one who changed the entire women`s cricket era both on and off the field. Her passion and hard work have already made India one of the strong forces in women’s cricket. But off the field, she has always spoken about gender equality and what else needs to be done to bring the women`s cricket in equal with men’s cricket.

Mithali Raj

“I am always asked about how it feels to be referred to as ‘lady Sachin’. It is a huge honour if someone mentions your name with a legend like Tendulkar. But don`t get me wrong, my point is, why to compare men`s game and women`s games at all?”

The five heaviest diamonds of the world

Diamond is the most valuable stone in the world. No other stone is as hard as diamond. It is one of the most lustrous substances that we find. Let us know about the five largest diamonds in the world.

Sergio

The five heaviest diamonds of the world

“Sergio”, a black carbonado diamond from Brazil discovered in 1893, beats all its rivals for weight. These so-called black diamonds are rare and scientists are still in debate over their origins. There are some that believe these black diamonds come from outer space, having travelled to Earth as fragments of an ancient meteor. This almost weighs 3167 carats.

Cullinan

The five heaviest diamonds of the world

The Cullinan diamond is known as the world’s second-largest diamond till date. This diamond was found 18 feet (5.5 m) below the surface at Premier Mine in Cullinan, South Africa on 26 January 1905. It was named after Thomas Cullinan, the mine’s chairman. So, the diamond has been named after him.

In April 1905, the diamond was put for sale in London, but it was unsold for two years. In 1907 the Transvaal Colony government bought the Cullinan and presented it to King Edward VII on his 66th birthday.

It weighs 3,106 carats. They have later cut it into nine pieces. Queen Elizabeth is the present owner of this diamond.

Lesedi La Rona

The five heaviest diamonds of the world

The world record for the third largest diamond is held by the Lesedi La Rona. It was found in the Karowe mine, in Botswana on 16 November 2015. The regional meaning of this name is “Our light”. In 2016, the CEO of Lucara Diamonds, the original owner of the diamond, has announced a competition to name the diamond. He suggested this name and stated that his reason for the name was that “the diamond is a pride, light and hope of Botswana”.

This diamond is almost the size of a tennis ball. The weight is almost 1,109 carats. It was sold for 53 million dollars in an auction. It is now owned by Graff Diamonds.

The Excelsior diamond was regarded the largest until the Cullinan diamond was found in 1905. It was found on June 30, 1893, at the Jagersfontein Mine in South Africa, 130 kilometers (81 miles) south-east of Kimberley.

It weighs 995 carats. It was cut into twenty pieces. The largest of all the pieces weighed 70 carats. This has been beautifully placed in a bracelet.

The world’s fifth largest diamond is Sierra Leone. It was found in Sierra Leone, Africa in 1972. This diamond weighs 969 carats. This was owned by a famous diamond company of New York. It had cut the diamond into seventeen pieces. The largest of all the pieces weighs 54 carats.

Some of the smaller gems were placed into a piece of exquisitely-crafted jewellery that became known as the Star of Sierra Leone brooch.

These are the heaviest diamonds in the world that are highly valuable.

After completing his aeronautical engineering degree, he spent the next four decades of his life as a scientist and a science administrator. He was mainly associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). For his devoted involvement in India’s civilian space programme and military missile development efforts along with his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology, he came to be known as the “Missile Man of India”.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Early Life of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in the year 1931 to a Muslim family in the state of Tamil Nadu. His ancestors were very wealthy but during his early childhood days, his family became poor. He started selling newspapers in order to add-on to his family`s income. He used to spend a lot of time studying and especially studying Mathematics. He graduated in Physics from the University of Madras in the year 1954. In 1955, he joined Madras Institute of Technology to study aerospace engineering. He would have accomplished his dream of becoming a fighter pilot had he got one position higher in the qualifiers. He was placed ninth in the qualifiers but to his discomfort, there were only eighth positions available in the IAF.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Life as a Scientist

After completing his engineering degree from the Madras Institute of Technology in 1960, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam became a member of the Defence Research & Development Service (DRDS). He later joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation as a scientist. After his transfer to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), he led the project of India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in near-earth orbit in the year 1980.

In the 70s, Dr. Kalam also became the director of two projects, Project Devil and Project Valiant, whose aim was to develop ballistic missiles from the technology of the successful SLV programme. The then Union Cabinet disapproved these projects, but the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi`s faith in Kalam made her grant secret funds for these aerospace projects through her discretional powers. His research and educational leadership brought him great praise and stature during the 1980s, which triggered the administration to commence an advanced missile programme under his directorship. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam played a crucial role in the development of missiles such as Agni, an intermediary range ballistic missile, and Prithvi, the prudent surface-to-surface missile.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was appointed as the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the DRDO from July 1992 to December 1999. The famous Pokhran-II nuclear tests were escorted during this tenure of him in which he played a crucial political and technological role. Later, Dr. Kalam served as the Chief Project Coordinator, along with Rajagopala Chidambaram, during the testing phase. Due to all his crucial roles, during this period, made him the country’s best known nuclear scientist.

In the late 2000s, he along with cardiologist Soma Raju developed a low-cost coronary stent, known as the “Kalam-Raju Stent”. In the year 2012, the duo drafted a durable tablet computer for the purpose of health care in rural areas, known as the “Kalam-Raju Tablet”.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as President

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam became the 11th President of India. His tenure as a president lasted from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007. He was popularly known as the “People`s President”.

On 10 June 2002, the then government of NDA, expressed that their candidate for the Presidentship would be Dr. Kalam and was rightfully supported by the opposition party also. He is the only scientist and bachelor to be the President of India. He is only the third President of India to have been honored with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

After his first tenure as a President got over in the year 2007, he was willing to hold the office for another term but did not get support from the political parties and thus refused to contest the election. However in 2012, after the media reported that Kalam was likely to be nominated for his second term as President, social networking sites witnessed a number of people supporting his candidature. With political parties willing to support him and later refusing to, Dr. Kalam refused to contest and expressed his views to the people, “Many, Many citizens have also expressed the same wish. It only reflects their love and affection for me and the aspiration of the people. I am really overwhelmed by this support. This being their wish, I respect it. I want to thank them for the trust they have in me.”

Last Days of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

Dr. Kalam used to give guest lectures at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and the Indian Institute of Management Indore. He became the chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram; professor of Aerospace Engineering at Anna University; and an adjunct at many other academic and research institutions across India.

In the year 2012, Dr. Kalam launched a programme for the youth of India called the What Can I Give Movement, with the main aim of defeating corruption.

On 27 July 2015, Dr. Kalam traveled to Shillong where he was required to deliver a lecture on the topic, “Creating a Livable Planet Earth” at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong. He experienced some discomfort while he was climbing a flight of stairs in the university but was later able to enter the auditorium. Around 6:35 p.m., only five minutes into his lecture, he collapsed. He was rushed to the nearby Bethany Hospital in a critical condition. Despite being placed in the ICU, Dr. Kalam was confirmed dead of a sudden cardiac arrest at 7:45 p.m.

His last words, to his aide Srijan Pal Singh, were reported: “Funny guy! Are you doing well?”

Numerous tributes were paid to the former President of India across the nation and also globally. The Government of India declared a seven-day state mourning period as a mark of respect. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi said “[Dr. Kalam’s] death is a great loss to the scientific community. He took India to great heights. How Industry Dominates Newbies

0

It’s harsh but true some of you might have faced this or you might face It in future, at times industry dominates you for no reason. Let me give you how this whole process is carried out or where actually you may face this domination.

Industry that I am talking about can be MNC’s or Person belonging to such big company or an experienced person having served in company and now is a founder of the company.

Case 1

MNC collaborating with SME

In this case today many MNC(Multi National Company) outsource some works to SME(Small Medium Enterprise) as they quote lesser price compared to big company. MNC people target SME due to many reasons e.g. its costs less amount when they outsource the work, they get product delivery on time etc. Few MNC take this advantage and try to dominate small companies. They think the TAG itself is enough to threaten small companies. MNC do not pay on time to vendors and the reason they give is” you know how our process is, it takes too long to for payment clearance”. Even after working damn hard they do not pay on time. They will ask to deliver certain task within an hour which small companies still do even if that task may take a day, small companies work even after office hours still they do not get what they deserve.

Some MNC people are hired from top B schools, so they normally do not have practical knowledge and then they get an opportunity to develop new products. First of all they will ask SME to provide suggestions and work on it. Then they interrupt in between and ruin the whole product. At the end they blame SME.

This is what happening in our market today. People do not have much idea about it.
It’s not only about MNC, It’s about people who are handling and continuing the chain, The founder does not even know what is happening in his company.

How Industry Dominates Newbies

Case 2

Experienced Industry Professional (Owner of a company) collaborating with Young Professional (Working as freelancer)

Some experienced people open a company and then outsource few works. Few of them contact their network, juniors, or register at certain website from where they can hire people to do work.

Few of them take their juniors for granted they will get the work done and in the end they will delay in payments. As they are hiring freelancers, generally they do not have contract so clients delay the payments. Then they will teach you how to deliver work and take follow-up. As you won’t get payment on time and you have been told that you will get payment by certain date and once you do not get it, what you will do? You will remind them right? Every time when you do not get you will call /email/text them.

This people will clear your payments and in the end they will blame you for not giving work as per expectations and on time. At the end its will ruin your relationship with them.

All this may or may not happen to you. Remember to work with people whom you think can be trusted and who will pay you on time.

Sometimes you get to know your seniors actual attitude in terms of professionalism when you get an opportunity to work for/with them.

To all the students or fresher working in a company here is my request always be honest and always communicate with other in a way that do not hurt someone as you will be someday at senior level. You are the one who can stop this domination when it’s your turn to lead the company. Learn from your mistakes, experience and move-on in life.

Do let me know if you have faced any such domination in past!

Thank you!

5 Amazing Cleaning Hacks

Cleaning the house is almost like fighting a battle. You must have learnt many cleaning techniques from your parents and grandparents. But here, I bring the easiest cleaning hacks for you which will make cleaning very easy for you!

5 Amazing Cleaning Hacks

1. How to clean your dishwasher?

Pull the bottom rack out and examine the drain area and make sure there are no hard chunks that can plug the drain, cause damage to the pump or scratch dishes. You’d be surprised at what dishwasher repairmen find – bones, crab shells, glass shards, and even small pieces of gravel! Place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher. The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitize, and help remove the musty odor.Using the hottest water setting, run the dishwasher through a cycle. The dishwasher should be empty except for the cup of vinegar. After the vinegar cycle finishes, sprinkle a handful of baking soda around the bottom of the dishwasher and run it through a short cycle using the hottest water. The baking soda will help further deodorize your dishwasher and help in removing any stains. If you have problems with mold and mildew, add ½-1 cup bleach in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a full cycle.

2. How to make your own homemade deodorizing disks?

Add a 3 to 4 drops of any essential oil to approximately 1/2 cup water. Pour the water/oil mixture into baking soda and mix well. Continue to add water until you have a THICK paste. Divide the mixture into your molds or muffin tin cups. Let it dry for 24 to 48 hours until completely hardened.

3. How to get the stinky smell out of the bath towels?

Put the offending towels in your washing machine and fill with HOT water! You might want to turn up your hot water heater temporarily for this, or I usually just boil some water on the stove and add it to the load. Leave the towels in the washer after the vinegar wash cycle is done. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the washer, and run through another wash cycle with HOT water. Finally, make sure to dry your towels THOROUGHLY in the dryer or outside on the clothesline. This one-two punch of vinegar and baking soda should take care of the problem 9 times out of 10. If you are still experiencing bad smells or poor absorbency afterwards, try repeating the same process above until it is gone. (I should also note that I am not recommending using this method every time you wash your towels. Just use it when you start to notice that “funky” smell, or that the towels don’t seem to be absorbing the way they should.

4. How to unclog a toilet?

Image result for toilet seatIf the toilet looks like it’s about to overflow and you want to avoid that (which you do), then you should close the toilet flapper as quickly as possible to prevent any more water from getting into the toilet bowl. If you really want to be safe, you can also shut off the water supply to the toilet so no more water can get into the tank or bowl. (The handle to shut off the water is usually behind the toilet, close to the floor.) Now, add a few cups of hot water to the toilet bowl before you attempt plunging, and you may not have to plunge at all. The heat helps to melt the fats in the “clog” & makes it more likely to flush. Let the hot water sit for a few minutes, and then use a plunger to vigorously push and pull water through the hole in the toilet bowl. This could come in very handy if you’re facing clogged toiled situation at a friend’s house and you can’t find a plunger in the bathroom. If you can’t find a bucket in the bathroom, look for a wastebasket. Empty out the wastebasket and fill it up with hot water from the sink or shower. Pour the hot water down the toilet carefully and the clog should be fixed in no time. (And put the wastebasket or bucket back where you found it!)

5. How to remove burnt, stuck on foods from your pots and pans?

Sprinkle a cup or two of baking soda in the bottom of the scorched pan and add just enough water to cover. Simmer for 15 minutes to 1/2 hour, repeating if necessary. The most crusted on black burned mess will fall right off leaving a sparkling pan. Ordinary table salt will work in a pinch as well.
