Variable definitions of nationalism

0
article BFDC

Nationalism is one of the most important requisites for any individual as it gives a sense of belonging to a person within the vast expanse of existence. It can be seen as a nobler version of the bonding one share within a family. While this is such an elaborate aspect, there are no definite definitions when it comes elaborating this expression. Everyone tries to put up a definition according to their own suitability and understanding which seems fair to the extent that it is an individual right but when it comes of juxtaposing the same ideology over others then the problems begin to arise.

There is a genuine characteristic in humans that they try to defend their own ideas, and when somebody tries to remold that frame then conflicts become non avoidable. Same is the case with nationalism; while some feel that it is utterly important to take out time to show your love for the nation time to time, some feel it unnecessary and flaunt. Both the thought processes are correct when seen through the glasses of the respective bearers and flawed when observed from the other.

The discussion on this topic has emerged out because of the recent compulsive orders from The Supreme Court of India of playing national anthem in movie theaters before movie screenings. While many are rejoicing at this development and are proclaiming it as a needed measure to keep the sanctity of the nation upright, many are calling it a not required and ill-advised decision which goes against the basic principles of liberty.

Let’s try to analyze both these point of views one by one.

The Rashtra-rakshak clan

It involves the people who have the belief that one needs to abide by every rule and regulation made in order to show their reverence to the nation regardless of anything. This is the group that comes all guns blazing when someone does or says something that can insult the national flag, song or any emblem, many a times without considering or even listening to the person in question. They demand apologies, pass judgments and are pretty quick at calling the person in question an Anti-National.

This is the band which is led by leaders who call upon movie bans and ask their followers to do anything and everything to the extent of moral policing to make sure that their own idea of nationalism is propagated and taken forward. They tend to pick up any means from processions to outright violence in order to achieve the objective.

While these seem quite nationalistic in the bird’s eye view but when one actually carefully analyses them then the actual motives usually seem political or personal gains.

The Samaj-seva gang

This is the group of people who see that everybody else’s liberty and rights is theirs to protect. Many a times they do mean well but quite a few times the cross the line of being a social activist and a social vigilante by intervening into the personal spaces of individuals. They often take sides of those who are alleged of crimes against the society on humanitarian grounds and are quite bent towards spreading their ideology of unhindered liberty and freedom.

While they seem to be well versed with idea of freedom of expression and speech, they tend to overstretch the same at times.

Alongside these two, coexists a third faction of people who are so busy in providing for their families and their loved ones that they don’t even care about any of the big stuff. This nameless faction is the largest in numbers but still has the minimum say in the decision making.

This nameless faction doesn’t care about the release of a movie or the abolition of a law but is worried about making sure its sustenance. So are they non-nationalist? The answer is a clear NO. This is the part of population that forms the major portion of the defense forces as well as the trading and scientific community. Their importance and input in the nation’s development is far more that the other two and yet they don’t care about being named.

The final thought is that though it s justified to have a customized approach towards nationalism in a personal context but forcing it on someone is something that should be avoided for peaceful coexistence.

Small act of kindness

0
kindness cover

Not every day we experience something vastly filled with respect, love and kindness. But when something like that happens to us, it changes our attitude and vision of life. Sometimes we don’t bother about our surroundings. We see but never notice other people’s problem.

Can someone actually have kindness in what we call ‘today’s busy world’? Can it really happen? I didn’t give much thought to these questions until recently when something happened that made me clear about the existence of people with good intentions without expecting anything in return. Kindness doesn’t relate itself with money. It doesn’t matter what the financial condition of a person is but the heart is all that matters when it’s in the right place. Instead of expecting anything in return, we must make our best possible efforts to support others.

God exists within us.

God indeed helps those who help themselves. We just need to be strong to accept the situation to tackle with it. Rest should be assured to God. A way for the problem will come around. And this may happen in a form of human being.

Few days ago, I was seriously ill and hospitalised. I was very weak to eat or even talk. I stayed in the bed all day not knowing everything around me. There was a woman who worked in that hospital. She used to clean the floors in the morning and evening; attended to the nurses asking if there was anything to do like giving medicine to the patients etc.; took patients on the wheelchair to the required place; brought the medicines from the pharmacy when asked.

I saw her many times passing in front of my ward and she noticed me too. She came to my ward too bringing medicines and the room cleaning process. Every time she smiled at me as to tell me to hold on. She took me to the pathology lab on the wheelchair as I was very weak to walk on my own. She cared for everyone and talked nicely with everybody, listened carefully to what anybody wants. It became her habit to check on me many times and tell me every time that I’ll get better very soon.

Sense of responsibilty.

One time, I was having some problem so my brother went to the doctor to report it. But there were so many people over there and there was no orderly line in which they were moving. Everyone was standing haphazardly and pushing each other to move forward. It was difficult to see the doctor. Then she was the one who helped. She took my prescription form and making her way went inside to report to the doctor. She even brought the medicines too afterwards. We asked how she did all this. She replied that if she comes across any emergency case, she definitely steps up and since she works there, she’s able to go inside.

That was something to think about. Without knowing anybody, if somebody helps them in their urgent need, that’s definitely a quality to adopt.

Sometimes it seems like God tests the patience of a good person too.

One day in the morning, at the time of her arrival to the hospital I saw her worriedly walking here and there looking disturbed. She was constantly going to the common room. I didn’t get the reason behind her distress. Then I didn’t see her for some time until in the noon when she came to my ward bringing my medicines. That’s when she told my parents that her little son also got ill. She didn’t have any money to treat him and the doctors were refusing to provide any medication to the little boy without the payment. So she gaged her girl’s anklets in order to get money to treat his son.

Listening to this, I instantly felt enraged and shocked as how can any doctor deny treating a patient. Even not to provide him anything just to control it, let alone treat it.  My parents also felt the same way. I was very disappointed and wondered how can something bad happen to a genuinely good person who cared for everyone else and did everything to help them.

We asked her about her son’s condition which was fine then. There was no serious illness but at the moment he needed something just to lessen his pain which he got only after she, in spite of working there, arranged for the money with so much difficulty. She told us that she was not on the permanent job there, instead she was recruited temporarily. But even then, she was working there for so long time. That should have been in the doctor’s mind, if not the pain of a person.

My father gave her money to properly treat her son and then gave her some extra money too. She was so overwhelmed that she cried. But still the main thing that I noticed was that in that crying also she was so strong and firm and controlled. She thanked my parents many times and smiled at me and gave me blessings to get well soon.

I didn’t do anything in that matter; I was not the one who had so much difficulty in my life; It was not me to give her any money. I simply lied there in my ward. But the moment she touched my forehead and blessed me, I was so moved. It was a completely inexplicable feeling.

The greatness of being human is having humanity.

She was a strong woman who instead of getting little money due to being on a temporary job, and her husband working in some factory also getting less money, was responsible enough to fulfil her duties. Her son was ill, she went through so much stress, and her little girl’s anklet was on gage but nothing stopped her from doing her job. She was here to help the people again. Her job was to help the people. And there’s no denying in the FACT that she is best in what she does.

It was my honor to get to know a wonderful woman full of kindness from whom I learned a lot. And it has become a new thing for me since then to try and implement her qualities in me; so that I am able to help someone someday.

Overcome Exam Mania

0
EXAM

Exam is a word which brings goose bumps to any student. Exam itself is a word full of tremor. Its commencement brings with it a lot of new diseases in students and many more excuses to run away from it.

It is believed that in the beginning exams were made to test students knowledge and their level of understanding to a certain context. But now exams are a mere rat race to prove to the society that you are better than the rest of the crowd.

Being a student I can completely relate to the pressure and the feeling of   being isolated from the rest of the society as you have that big tremor “EXAM” coming your way.

Now a day the word exam is very synonymous to competition. And it all starts right from when we are born. Our first competitors being our very own siblings or our parents friends children.  Over here the exam refers to who will start walking first or doing those crazy stuff or more importantly who will pronounce those difficult words first. And bribing the child with a little gift to do that correctly starts very early.

When the child starts with his studies then he is surrounded by like aged toddlers who have high expectations on their back. Parents wish their child top in the class and in all the extracurricular stuffs that happen in the school. Their child’s report card becomes their status symbol. This entire thing ends up leaving a great impact in the mind of a child.

Overcome Exam ManiaWhen the school is still going on then comes a big mountain for them to climb the class tenth boards’ exam which is considered as a big speed breaker to the life of all the students. It is considered as the ultimate quality check for a student as it is the biggest exam they will be appearing in their life until now. Their outdoor activities, hanging out with friends, and all the stupid stuffs according to their parents and generous teachers is stopped. They are debarred from all fun activities. Just they know is their parents expectations which is on their shoulders. They are left in complete isolation without any entertainment to concentrate on their damn studies. They are told things like – it’s gonna decide your future, just this big exam after that no big stuff coming your way and so on and so forth.

When the child is done with this big rock like tenth boards then they have another things lined up for their future the career choosing time the 11-12. In our country we have to choose in between science, commerce, and humanities. A science student is considered as the intelligent mind while the humanities one is the one who could not make to the other two streams so he is always looked up with a pity. But that’s not the brutal truth behind the fact. It’s the child’s interest in a subject more than the other but who could tell this to our orthodox believers of old run facts. More than the child’s interest in s subject their parents and fore fathers wish outweighs their decision.

Then come the great two years of a child’s life the great 11th and 12th. Damn man how fast these two years pass by. Seriously we could not figure out where we actually spent the time. Our life becomes so monotonous repeating he same stuff throughout the year – school, tuitions, self study and our life ends there. No involvement in any family events or society event. We are boycotted from all the events as if we have committed a big crime by coming in these two years of our life. These two years are considered as the pave setters or our career making years of our life.

After the completion of these two great years of our life we feel free like a bird. Thinking that the great monster exam has left our side and taken shelter somewhere else. But our happiness is short lived as this devil waits for us even at the university level. After the university it hangs on with us until we finally are able to bang a job by giving lot many exams. And in our job career also we get to face this evil a lot many times, sometimes to get a promotion and sometimes to rescue our job.

So this evil monster exam stays with us the entire life. It leaves a great impact on our life and leaves us ruthless the entire life. We fell pathetic for ourselves and for all the rest who go through these traumas every now and then. We can not do away with these exams but can surely do away with the meaningless rat race. We can be sensible enough to treat this  very healthily and have a lot to learn and deliver rather than just to study for the marks point of view.

So let us all be sensible enough to not fear from this hulk like exam monster but beat it with all our knowledge by facing it with aa lot of courage and not kneeling down in front of it. Deal with it patiently and always remember that exams are not end of the life they are just a small speed breakers which will pass away easily. So give exams with all happiness without fear and it will pass away very easily.

All the very best for your exams if they are on its way!!!!!

Unwinding Demonetization

0
de

The outcry about the recent demonetization drive has captured the emotion and imagination of a vast nation like India to the extent that from the ultra rich to the lagging poor, everyone is taking great interests in trying to understand the effects, implications and intentions behind the relatively bold economic move from the reigning government.

Let’s try to unwind the air around it layer by layer.

Demonetization, as a concept of economics means withdrawing the previously used and legal tenders from the market. It is a pretty simple definition with a pretty deep effect. Everyone with even a slightest of knowledge about Economics knows that the flow of money, liquidity plays a pretty driving role in regulating the health and pace of the economy. Thus it is clear that when we try to regulate this flow by external measures then it would have certain implications on the economy as well.

Demonetization in our country has been publicized as a measure to counter illegally hoarded ‘Black Money’ and counterfeit currency tenders floating in the market. The promise to weed out illegal money from the market has been able to gather the attention of everyone regardless of the social or financial status. While this does seems like a lucrative thing but many of the renowned economists have raised concerns regarding the intensity of the measures taken in this regard.

Pros of Demonetization:

demonetisation

  • Unavailability of cash as a measure of transaction can drive the people towards the more cash void means of transaction helping in creating the modern age cashless economy.
  • Use of electronic means will increase sharply because of the cash crunch that might end up enhancing the pace of the digitalization in the economy.
  • More and more people will try to have bank account in order to deposit their money, hence financial inclusion.
  • Because the traders will opt to electronic transactions, the backtracking for the sake of tax collection would be really easy.
  • As valid IDs are compulsory for any transactions hereof, the people without IDs will strive towards attaining IDs helping in financial planning and evaluation.
  • Having removed the old notes, new improved notes could be introduced into the system thus improving security against threats of counterfeits.
  • This drive can be a sort of morale accelerant for those who are willing to improve the existing ill placed system in the country.

The above stated points are few of the most obvious reasons in favor of the step taken by the government and can be seen as the justifications for such a huge step by the government.

Cons of Demonetization:bank-crowd

  • With more than 300 million citizens not having a valid ID card, it is quite impractical to relay a scheme that requires IDs for fulfillment.
  • Reducing cash flow so abruptly has the ability to decapitate the whole economic transaction setup.
  • The number of old currency notes which have become obsolete by this order is so large that the sheer decomposition of these will pose a grave problem.
  • The banking system is having a splurge of cash intake which would render them incapable of generating revenue which could lead to grave after effects on the whole system.
  • When a person with honest earnings has to queue in order to withdraw his own money, it is not even close to being ethical.
  • The decision has been taken without the proper channels of legislature and this type of political behavior can’t be encouraged in a democracy.
  • The level of discomfort this step has brought to the general public is just incalculable.

It can be very easily understood from the above points that all is not green in this arena. The proper evaluation of the situation in the wake of the facts is really essential in understanding the whole scenario.

Any government measures in order to counter the illegal practices are to be welcomed from the side of any aware citizen. But it is equally important for the authorities to understand that showing disregard to the public ease and taking whimsical measures without proper consultation and scrutiny is not a very good way to handle a democracy based nation.

This is indeed a tough time for Indians and as the history speaks out loud, we come stronger through high tides; same will be the case this time as well.

Most of the tourists travel to Gangtok for the Sikkim mountain views. Views which we failed to find in September. If you plan for snapping Kangchenjunga’s snowy peaks comes between October and June. There was no snow during yours visit but a whole lot of cloud (perfect for the clouds lover). We did take the few excursions. Rumtek monastery and Pal Zurmang monastery during a local tours of Sikkim. The extensive tour was to Changu Lake (need permits in advance) where the drive was in fact more exciting; controlled the landslides and unique local life amongst the highlights. Another tour was an overnight stay at the Temi Tea Gardens and also the tea factory tour. If you plan this tour then it is a best to stay on site at the Cherry Resort.

1) Sigappu Rojakkal:

1-3This cult classic of 1978, directed by the renowned director Bharathiraja.P. This film brought in the womanizer concept into the cinema scope and Kamal Hassan portrayed the lead role of a womanizer. That film became notable for being the first of its kind, released at a time where dramatic films were well received by people around. One year later post the film’s release, a psychopath killer named “Psycho Raman” (in pic), was arrested by the police for the brutal assault of many innocent women!

This film is depicted as one of the saddest films to the core by the critics. 6) Anbe Sivam

7Anbe Sivam was one of the controversial films ever made as it focussed upon atheism. It didn’t have a director or a producer constantly helming the project. And Kamal Hassan himself undertook all behind the camera responsibilities. The film, released in 2003, bombed at the BO but went on to garner rave critical reviews and became one of the highest rated films at IMDB. The film has a scene of a flood hitting and ruining people’s lives and Kamal Hassan used the term “Tsunami” in the movie. Many people weren’t aware of such term until then. And in 2004, ‘tsunami’ stuck on the east coast and costed huge number of lives!

7) Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu

8Vettaiyaadu Villaiyadu is a cop story released in the year 2006. This project was directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and portrayed Kamal Hassan in the lead role. The film showcased two characters named Amudhan and Ilamaran, who were psychopath killers, by virtue of their characterisation.

And exactly post three months of the film’s release, the NOIDA serial killing incident came into limelight and the psychopath killers were Moninder Singh Pandher and Sathish(in pic), two of them as in the film!!

8) Dasavathaaram

10Dasavathaaram was a record-making film, released in 2008, features Kamal Hassan, for the first time, in 10 roles, the most by any actor in a single film. And guess what, the film predicted over the vulnerable arise of EBOLA virus! The film revolves around a scientist trying to get a bio weapon he had designed, from not reaching anybody else’s hands, so that it doesn’t spread out and kill numerous people. The film showcased the virus to be an air- borne one and in one scene, Kamal Hassan reveals the virus is a combination of EBOLA-Marburg!! Little did he know that in 2014, that virus would be the major concern all over the world!

Thus, the Nostradamus of Indian Cinema has shot eight down precisely, awaiting to see what he shoots out to the masses in his upcoming flicks like Vishwaroopam 2, Marudhanayagam etc.
