CORRUPTION – PLAGUING THE INDIAN SOCIETY

CORRUPTION - PLAGUING THE INDIAN SOCIETY

There are two things in the Indian history – one is the incredible optimism and potential of the place, and the other is the betrayal of that potential through corruption. These two strands intertwine through the whole of Indian history.

Corruption is the greatest bane of our society today and a hot issue that is coming up nowadays in many ways like bribery, extortion and smuggling. It is something that is easy to spread but difficult to stop. In almost each and every sector of the society, corruption exists and people have to face it everywhere they go – from police stations to higher government bodies; from elementary schools to widespread colleges and universities, corruption prevails in some or the other form. I’m sure you most of you would have had to tackle this issue at some or the other point in your lives.

But what causes this situation to arise?

CORRUPTION - PLAGUING THE INDIAN SOCIETY

The people responsible for this are mostly the lethargic ones who are always in search for a shortcut to success. The cut-throat competition present in the society also compels them to take up unscrupulous means to compete with their competitors. The weak implementation of laws only makes the situation worse, as they are not able to bind such people thus driving away their fear. The corrupt are often in collusion with the police and government agents. They are caught while taking bribes and they bribe to go scot-free.

All of this has an ill effect on our country as people lose faith in the government. A large amount of black money is generated but there is nothing left to be used for the welfare of the people. The country’s economy is shattered due to non-judicious use of the government funds and development is also hampered.

We have seen over time that countries that have the best economic growth are those that have good governance, and good governance comes from freedom of communication which in turn comes from ending corruption.

It was rightly said by Kurt Cobain “The duty of the youth is to fight corruption.” Hence, some action should be taken not only by the government but also by the common man to eradicate corruption from India.

Dear Zindagi – Review and earnings on the 10th day

dearzindagi

The first frame kicks off with Kaira peering into the camera. She shoots a wrap-up scene of the movie she works on. A shot which depicts a career-driven young woman who is fickle when it comes to love. It’s soon followed by a series of lightning fast relationships and migrating to different places. The protagonist eventually drowns in a pool of her sorrows.

Kaira is an independent woman but I failed to place her on the strong side, she is fidgety and finicky. Much like your usual new-gen product with too much on her plate and indigestible life problems in both her romantic and work life. Surrounded by her very own lollipop gang in which one of them is the mother hen who is always territorial when it comes to her chicks and the source of pragmatism. The first half is rich in colour and break-up songs gives very low hope to the viewer and making it unbearable as the story proceeds with monotony.

dear-zindagi-7599With the entry of ‘Jug’ A.K.A Dr. Jehangir Khan, there is a fluctuation and progress in both Kaira’s life and the pace of the tale. Shahrukh Khan plays the role of Jug and his therapy sessions with Alia Bhatt’s character makes it worthwhile to continue watching the movie. I believe the backbone of the flick was the mid-life crisis Kaira has and how everyone could connect with that phase of the character on a personal level. The heart-wrenching sequences from the protagonist’s past are the one to look out for and they honestly ripped.

dear-zindagi-review-647_112416113415The director raised the bar after her incredible film – English Vinglish. And after watching Sridevi’s mind-boggling performance and your high expectations will get the better of you. Naturally, the actresses in both her films are incomparable, but just a thought. I might have enjoyed the film if I probably read it as a book and it is an inexplicable feeling. Although, you could hit the theaters if you are into the slice-of-life type of movies such as this one.

The Social Dilemma

0
party

“I want to be free from all the invisible bondages of life. I want to be free from the social dilemma”

“Party Time! This is one of the best days of my life. Vacations plus the enjoyment of family food is the best combo ever.”, I updated my status with what may seem like a dull emotion. “Hey Taniya, looking beautiful dear.”, “Yeah, those were memorable days. I still feel the warmth and happiness from our school days.” As the school group started off a conversation on Facebook, I joined in deliberately. I wanted to be a part of something worthy; to be free, from all the invisible bondages of life.

The conversation went for about an hour or so, before we finally came to life in this reality and set out to work on our individual lives. It was then, at that very moment when I suddenly realized – I was alone. I felt the depth of loneliness slowly catching up to me. In this world where people seem to laugh at one moment and suddenly lose their charm the other moment, I was a special kind of person. I knew no more if I was happy at all. There was no sensation of sadness either. I was trapped in a dilemma, the Social Dilemma.

“I am connected, but I never reach others.”

If Internet were a human being, he would know me better than many who claim to understand me. For only he would have witnessed the true nature of my dilemma. He would have known that I laugh on Facebook and I party on Instagram. He would know that I am professional on twitter and pranky on WhatsApp. I am connected, but I never reach others.

“It comes softly, affects our lives and vanishes in the shadows.”

My emotions bounce back and hit me hard. At the moments when I am celebrating my happiness on Facebook with fifty friends of mine, I am actually sitting alone in one corner of my house hoping for my best friend to call me. When I am enjoying the party on Instagram, when I am clicking selfies and making the time count, I am actually hoping if people would finally accept me as a friend and that they will not ignore me yet again. While spending my passionate time on twitter, sharing my work and keeping my followers informed, I am actually hoping for the people to engage in my activities and help me grow my network.

When I am chatting with over a hundred friends on WhatsApp, laughing and smiling and teasing others, I am actually worried if the layer of internet and the effect of mere words would be enough to let the other person know how much I care!? During my happy moments, I am worried more than when I am not. My life is more divided among the many social networks rather than the many people I meet. This is the dilemma which traps all but makes no noise. It comes softly, affects our lives and vanishes in the shadows.

Autobiography of A Five Hundred Rupee Note

2

Yes! I am going through a phase in my life where I am depressed more than ever. I… never really saw this coming! A few days back my owner was smiling when he looked at me. What more can I ask for. My value is pretty big, yet I have always been jealous of the many other big ones around. I am humble; never did I take pride in my existence. People share a variety of bonds with me. Some love me so they keep me hidden in a dark place, inaccessible to the world. Others adore me so they always carry me with them. Personally, I love people who let me be free more often than not. Nobody should be held longer than one deserves to be.

I am not a slave; I am a free currency.

However, we the community of notes got used to this system of being stagnant all the year long. Not able to meet my friends or gossip about the different owners from various parts of the country sometimes makes me miss the outside world. Despite the fact that many people keep us hidden away, there are some who care for us in a natural way. Not everyone is as obsessed as some people are. They know and understand my value, my importance. I am respected for they need me. People use my abilities to fulfill their desires. Soon I am off to someone else. Over the last ten years, since my first arrival I have never seen such a drastic change in my career as a legal currency.

On the 8th of November this year, when I was hanging out with my friends, suddenly my owner started acting absurdly weird. None of us knew what was happening. In the house where I lived, with me lived over a bunch more friends of mine whom I had never seen before until today. There they were, all sitting on a table, all piled up one above the other. I was at the rear end of the table, watching my owner. His face was terrified as if someone just robbed him.

From that moment on-wards, things were set into motion. Over the next couple of hours, I had a great time talking with all my new friends who just got bail from the owner’s prison. It was a get-together after merely a year or so for me. Never have I ever been so utterly happy about something that I could not understand. The next day, when the news spread and everyone panicked, our support community got information through our intelligence sources which claimed that the higher authorities of the country made a bold move against illegal currency owners. We were informed that we are no longer a legal tender and our value is no more than a piece of paper. Knowing this, I couldn’t sleep all night!

 Five Hundred Rupee Note
Five Hundred Rupee Note

We were informed that we are no longer a legal tender and our value is no more than a piece of paper.

Over the next few days, chaos built up. Both the people who owned us, and my friends who feared death were in nuisance. Some people believed this move to be better than any other move taken to curb the black money, as they like to call us. While others were furious over the decision. At first I thought, people really love us for the bond between us was inseparable. However, as the days past by we heard increasingly disturbing information of some people from across the country dumping our siblings and friends into rivers and gutters. People burned us alive, threw us away and abandoned us completely. It was then that the Senior Currency Committee that we set up a decade ago declined the possibility of any affection from the side of people.

It was also then that we figured some very ground breaking discovery. Many of our friends and siblings were seen returning from the border zones. I met one such friend of mine in Delhi exactly ten days after the announcement. We had a good talk about the current situation. She explained how the cross border people refused to accept her and how she was put into a dark box and transferred all the way to Delhi. When more and more such friends of mine, began to show up, it made me believe a little that this move is certainly doing some good for the country.

"the sheer scale of our families spread across the country Proves that people in this country are Ambitious."

What would happen to us, never really bothered them. Every person was increasing worried about his own problems. The sheer scale of our families spread across the country proves that people in this country are ambitious. Our executive department called for a meeting where the chief executive head of the department i.e. the one thousand Rupee note was about to handover his resignation. He was sad as he spoke these words.

“I am deeply moved by the decision taken by our higher authorities. All these years it was great to be your leader and frankly I hope I gave justice to the honour. I wish I could play my part for another decade or so but now it’s the time for the next generation to stand up to the honour. I hereby resign from my position and appoint the newly added two thousand rupee note as the new chief executive head of the department. Thank you all. Each of us were in tears as we heard him for the last time. Meanwhile the new member in our family just arrived from the banks. Here it was, the new five hundred Rupee note. My present seemed like history; I was no longer needed. Soon, we got acquainted with each other and silently waited for the chaos to end.

“No matter how hard the country gets hit by chaos, peace will regain its honour. And then for a brief moment, we all will rejoice again.”

Not everything that changed that night made it to the pros list of happenings, however not every con that took place was its outcome. When things change, the order that was once considered static, unbreakable, strong and firm suddenly falls into pieces. Once the order gets shattered, the foundation shakes. With the vibration that gets aroused, a new equilibrium will soon be established. The days of our lives which are spent in dismay and sorrow will soon pass. No matter how hard the country gets hit by chaos, peace will regain its honour. And then for a brief moment, we all will rejoice again.

Sleep troubles? The best solution is here !

sleep

There is nothing like getting a good night sleep. Waking up refreshed, energized, and be ready to take on the world is the ideal feelings that we all would love to have.

This challenge is that in our modern society, millions of peoples are suffering from sleeping deprived and chronically to the deleterious effects of having low quality sleep.

It may be creates a negative impact on the health at both physical and emotional level. Before getting to anything wrong here’s some solution of how you can solve sleeping disorders.

1. Know the value of sleep

Source: Shutterstock.com

This fact is a little unusual, but probably the most important. Many people are negligent about getting to enough sleeping because they truly don’t understand about the benefits they’re getting from it.

2. Get more sunlight during the day

One of the most important things that induce great sleep is your body’s natural secretion of the hormone called melatonin. Melatonin is produced through the pineal gland in your brain and sends the signal to regulate the sleep-wake cycle in to the body.

3. Avoid the screen

This is likely the thing you may do to improve your sleep timing immediately. The artificial blue colour produced through electronic screens into your body to produce mostly daytime hormones (like cortisol) and disturbed your body’s natural preparation for sleep.

Laptops, televisions, smartphones, etc are kicking out a sleep-sucking blue spectrum emitted of light that can give you major sleep problems.

4. Use high quality magnesium

Magnesium is the bonafide anti-stress mineral. It helps your body to optimize circulation and blood pressure, balanced blood sugar, relaxing tense muscles, reduce pain, and give calm to the nervous system. Yet, because it has so many functions, it’s also tends to get depleted from our bodies rather fast.

5. Have a high protein, low carb snack close to bed time

If you want to get truly silence and restless sleep, then one of the worst things you will do is eat just before bed. Give your body a solid 90 minutes before heading get to bed after eating. This is really true if you are eating carbs snacks because the inherent blood sugar spike will may be cause a sharp drop in blood sugar later and if you happen to be asleep when this hypoglycaemia can hits, it will likely wake you up and give you difficulties falling back to asleep.

If you feel this you can need to have something quickly before bed (again at least 90 minutes) then go with the high protein food. The amino acids in the protein food can actually add in getting a more beneficial to your sleep.

6. Get to bed at the right time

This is a key solution that, you can literally get amplified benefits of sleep by sleeping at the right time. It’s been shows that you get the most significant hormonal secretions and recovered by sleeping during 10 pm and 2 am. This is what this call Money Time.

You can get the most rejuvenating effects during that time, and any sleep that you can get in addition is a bonus for you. That’s based on the seemingly lost realization that we are a part of nature, and when the lights gone on the planet, that a time for us to turn down too.

7. Be early to rise

Naturally one of the best things you can do to improve your sleep is to get up early. This definitely goes back to the fact that humans have certain patterns of sleep and wakefulness that we only found a way to override those things.

An outsider’s look at Jayalalithaa-Queen to Amma

0
Jayalalithaa

In the Indian culture, it is a pretty conventional and deep rooted ethic to keep the stature of mother at par with that of the almighty. While it looks quite a cliché to those not really enlightened to this concept, it is something Indians take absolute pride about. Looking at this fact, one can easily understand the value of someone conferred the honorary stature of ‘AMMA’. While every mother deserves respect, the love and devotion that a mother to hundreds of thousands of people would garner is just hard to quantify.

Yes, it is an obituary to Jayalalithaa Jayaraman, the lady who rose from the alleys of film industry to the crown roads of Tamil Nadu and more importantly to the hearts of millions of people. Quite a lot is written about her in her hinterland but here’s how an outsider to Dravidian politics perceives her aura.

Early Life

Everybody knows about her being a film actress during her starting career. She worked in an array of around 140 films during her career of two decades. She acted in movies of various languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. She was discovered as an actress by the South Indian film legend Shivaji Ganeshan who was particularly impressed by her exemplary skills at Bharatnatyam.
She had an overly successful film career with almost all her movies being box office hits. She attained critical acclamation for her ease at essaying roles of varying genres from fantasy to mythology to social dramas. Her career saw her teaming up with legends like Shivajii Ganeshan, MG Ramachandran and Ravichandran. Her multi faceted acting talent got her applauds as well as a number of commercial awards.

Political initiation

pm-aspirant_0It is widely believed that she was brought into politics by the actor turned politician, MG Ramachandran (popularly called MGR). He found his own political party by the name of Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) after separating from DMK.
Jayalalithaa began her political stint by entering Rajya Sabha after being nominated from Tamil Nadu in 1984. Her association with MGR saw a rift when MGR was struggling through his health. Following his death, the party got divided in two factions; one was taken over by Janaki Ramachandran, his widow while another was led by Jayalalithaa. She was declared as the political heir of MGR’s legacy and contested the assembly polls in 1989 and rose up to the stature of the first women to be elected Leader of Opposition. Later that year, both the factions of ADMK re-merged and Jayalalithaa was unanimously elected as the leader of the party.

Rise of Jayalalithaa

jayalalithaa-ptiOn 25 March 1989, an incident that is deemed as one of the most shameful show of behavior by the elected members of the community shook the political arena. This was the day which saw the elected members of Tamil Nadu assembly getting in violent tussle on the house floor. This rowdy interaction between the members of the ruling and the opposition leaders took an extremely shameful turn when Jayalalithaa was visibly attacked and molested right on the floor of the house. As images of Jayalalithaa leaving the assembly with torn sari came into circulation, the dawn of the era of Jayalalithaa also came into being.
Jayalalithaa was able to steer her party towards an assembly election victory in 1991. After that term, she took the office on more than three occasions ruling for around 15 years in the stead of chief minister.

Controversies around her

Her political stint wasn’t devoid of controversies. Right after her first term as chief minister, she and her ministers were blamed of having done heavy corruption. She was even arrested in lieu of the various cases filed against her in DMK government. Throughout her career she was constantly attacked for establishing herself as a brand. Her brand politics has invited a lot of ire from the opposed spheres of politics.
Later in her career, allegations of having disproportionate assets surfaced with prominence. In September, 2014 she was sentenced to serve a four year jail term and 100 crore fine in a case filed by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy. She was hence disqualified from the post of chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Her sentence was later suspended by Supreme Court and she came back to reclaim her chief ministerial post.

AMMA

She was known as one of the strongest leader ever in Dravidian politics. She successfully entered the previously male dominated Dravidian politics and later aced it. Her decisions of providing incentives to the people of the state are often considered too populist but still it made her a place in the people’s hearts for sure.

Cradle baby scheme’ launched by her during her first term asked parents unwilling to raise baby daughters silently into the cradles setup by the state government. These girl children were raised on state expenditure. This was by far one of the boldest move towards curbing female infanticide and foeticide in a nation struggling with unbalanced sex ratio.

Her plans of distributing items like food processors, milk cattle, laptops and other items of usage to the people of state gained her immense popularity. Items like packaged water, food and salt was circulated under ‘AMMA’ brand and eased pressure on poor. The canteens set up by state were a relief to the people. Her policy of market intervention at the times of price hikes ensured the prices being in control. Even when the prices throughout the nation burdened other states, people of Tamil Nadu were comfortably having their meals in the canteens.

Her legacy

Sasikala Natarajan, left standing, a close friend of India’s Tamil Nadu state former Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa, wipes her tears next to Jayalalithaa’s body wrapped in the national flag and kept for public viewing outside an auditorium in Chennai, India, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. Jayalalithaa, the hugely popular south Indian actress who later turned to politics and became the highest elected official in the state of Tamil Nadu, died Monday. She was 68. (AP Photo/Aijaz Rahi)

While her soul has combined with the almighty, her legacy still stands upright; her legacy of placing people’s interests above any political pressures. She never twined under pressure and made sure that her policies were in sync with people’s interest.
The place she has gained in people’s hearts is just irreplaceable. Let’s hope her soul finds rest after toiling so hard during her lifetime. May the people grieved by her loss have the courage to handle their grief!
RIP AMMA

Hollywood Movies That Were Inspired From Bollywood !

Well, the title might sound a bit weird, for the fact that usually the reverse is true. There are plenty of movies which originate in Hollywood and some Bollywood movies would be a remake or a loosely inspired version of it. If that’s the case folks, then we surely have a reason or two to be proud of. There are reverse equivalents too. The following are a list of such Bollywood films and their corresponding Hollywood remakes or inspirations.

1) Hindi film: Sangam (1964)

    English equivalent: Pearl Harbour (2001)

Hollywood Movies That Were Inspired From Bollywood !Hollywood Movies That Were Inspired From Bollywood !

Who can’t remember the 1964 blockbuster, Sangam, directed and produced by Raj Kapoor, and is considered as a magnum opus of the legendary actor. It has one of the most interesting love triangle among the lead actors. The 2001 film, Pearl Harbour, was more focussing on the romantic triangle among the leads rather than the tragedy which was meant to be the central plot of the film. And the film sounded to be very much resembling the 1964 Bollywood film. Perhaps the fact that both the leads in the latter are pilots, whereas in the former, only one of the lead is a pilot.

2) Hindi film: Chhoti Si Baat (1975)

    English equivalent: Hitch (2005)

In 1975, Chhoti Si Baat, directed by Basu Chatterjee, is considered as one of the best comedy films of all time. It featured a fresh cast and went on to become a hit at the BO. It is about a shy person who seeks the help of another individual to express his love for the heroine. The 2005 film, Hitch, featuring Will Smith, as a date doctor, was based upon a similar plot. Although many claim, the 2007 Hindi film, Partner, featuring Salman Khan is a copy of Hitch, few are aware of the fact that Hitch itself is loosely inspired from a Bollywood film.

3) Hindi film: Darr (1993)

    English equivalent: Fear (1996)

Hollywood Movies That Were Inspired From Bollywood !The 1993 film, Darr, is considered to be one of the classic films of the Late director Yash Chopra. It starred Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in the lead roles. The film was known for its love triangle and the obsessive love scene of Shahrukh Khan where he carves “K-K-K-Kiran” in his chest. The 1996 English film, Fear, starring Mark Wahlberg, not only took the title of the former, but the love triangle sequences and also that chest carving scene.

Rangeela, released in 1995, was directed by Ram Gopal Varma, featuring Aamir Khan, Jackie Shroff in lead roles. The movie featured the entry of the “Mozart of Madras”, A.R.Rahman, into Bollywood. The plot revolves around the heroine who has got to choose between her best friend and a movie star with whom she’s co-working with. The 2004 English film, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, featured the similar plot and was an instant hit among the masses. The both versions just suffered a difference in the profession of the best friend character.

5) Hindi film: Abhay(2001)

This is perhaps the least inspired pair of all the pairs stated here. Abhay, was a hindi version of the tamil film, Aalavandhan, which had the versatile actor, Kamal Hassan portraying the lead double roleplay. It went on to be critically acclaimed, although it bombed at the BO. Quentin Tarantino, in an interview, said that the action sequences in his classic work, The Kill Bill series, were inspired from that of Abhay. The Kill Bill series, went on to become one of the best movies of the 21st Century.

6) Hindi film: Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya (2005)

David Dhawan, well known for his comedy films, directed Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, in the year 2005. The movie features Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. Just go with it, released in 2011, starred Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston in the lead. Indian women are the shining beacons of hope and have displayed exemplary dedication in their individual fields. Though they have been perceived by the world as the quiet, docile kind of women, with long hair, clad in a sari with countless gold jewellery, who prefer to be inside the house, and enjoy taking care of their families. But, in each generation, some woman or the other have continuously broken the stereotypes, and proved them to be robust, independent and multi-faceted.

“It is each seafarer’s and Master’s solemn duty and obligation to save lives in distress. I simply did what a mariner ought to do for a fellow soul in distress at sea. Yes, it had been an immediate call; however, not while not assessing the risks concerned.
