Body Shaming Tale of a Victim

0

Body shaming is a serious offence and not many people realize that. I simply had to write something that would address this issue in the mildest way at the least. All things considered, hate can be thrust upon you in any form and social media is just a little too handy these days. In the following story, the protagonist receives a message from a high school friend after a year of reconnecting. Now, it is just a text message, yet there is a phenomenal impact on this character across 3000 miles.

*Ding*

A WhatsApp message invaded the sanctity of my phone. Getting messages from people I liked was welcome, unless it is from an undesirable cockroach. And the message I received was from no likeable person.

Hello, long time, no see, it said.  Sighing deeply, I read the name of the sender – Jabna Kamurudeen. A swarm of memories whirled in my head like a tidal wave, smothering me in the process. It was a text from a “friend” of mine from the past. It had been a year since I last texted her, hoping it would be the last time as we never had contact after finishing high school. The wounds were still fresh in my mind like it happened yesterday. I didn’t want my past to bother me so much but unfortunately, it did.

Afterwards, I replied as I knew the two blue ticks would give me away. Dang you, WhatsApp, for your stupid hack to let people know the recipient has read the bloody message!

Hi, I am fine, how about you?

I sent back a mandatory reply and tucked my phone under the pillow. Not wanting to face her pretentious pleasantness because I knew her for what she was. Of course I knew how she thought and functioned. That was the problem, I knew her a little too well because politeness is the last thing on her plate. Although I did return the courtesy, my mind kept flashing back to all the nastiness of her past actions.

Afterward, we exchanged more pleasantries, discussing our kids and that of our friends’ as well. More photos were shared and commented on. Nothing elaborate, just the same old – Oh how cute they look!

Finally, she asked me something. Maybe something that nagged her all along.

Are you still fat? Or have you become thin…

Naturally, my fingers hovered over the keypad as I processed her question. What the actual ****? Was my internal and immediate response. Wanting to be mature about her query, I casually let slip that I am healthy and fine. If that was what she implied. I chose the non-violent response as I contemplated a set of colourful profanities. No, I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction of me expressing my rage. Most definitely not.

Although, I have gained a few pounds, I am still the same old me. One of the many downsides of postpartum, of course.

Little quick on the reply, I thought. I wanted it to be prompt and un-coerced. She needed to know that I did not give a rat’s fart to her taunts. The only way to do that was to react in the mildest way possible.

Oh, it’s okay. You will be fine. For this reason, you must follow the proper diet and exercise regularly.

Given her intolerable behaviour from the past, I could certify that she was being a complete scumbag. Honestly, I did not have time to deal with her desperate attempt at making me feel low. I wound up the conversation with the excuse of a soiled diaper. In a way, I felt like a coward for bolting from her ridiculous inquiry about my physique. However, I was proud of the way I dealt with the animosity towards the body shaming.

Do not let the haters have that kind of power over you. Above all, live your life the way you want to and not because someone else wishes you do so. Also, just because you are fat doesn’t mean you are not healthy!

I hope you guys could connect with this little piece of fiction. And remember, body shaming is bullying.

Letters to You

0

I watched the raindrops racing down the window pane as I sat there, yet again, reminiscing. All the memories, good and the bad, flashed in front of my eyes like a kaleidoscope in motion. It was then when I knew what I had to do, the same thing I had been doing ever since I left that city, continue with my letters to him.

We had been together for a year before I had to move out of town. I didn’t like it and neither did he but it wasn’t something that we had control over. Long story short, we now live hundreds of miles away but the love remains the same. So every night before I go to sleep, I write my letters to him in hopes that he’s listening to every word my heart longs to speak. And with that thought, I begin my entry for the night.

“Hey, how are you? I am fine, too. I know this sounds formal but, hey, it’s not a ‘To The Principal’ letter. Trust me, it’s not. This is where I tell you something which you probably already know but I want you to know anyway. You’ll have to hear it again and again every time I feel like repeating this to you in a different manner, with different vocabulary. I just want you to know that I’m in love with you. And I’m in love with you very much. So much that I don’t even know myself. I can’t measure the intensity of it; the depth that keeps me happy even when we argue over something; the credibility that keeps me from doing something stupid, really stupid. I hope you know what I mean.

It’s unbearable at times. Unbearable because I have never loved anyone without being selfish, even if it’s just a bit. But, when it comes to you, I can’t think of anything but you. I put you in front of everything else. You are my pride. You are my soul. You are my heart. You are all of me. And all of me loves all of you. No one has ever struck me the way you have. It is your love and your love only that has made me believe in destiny and fate and true love and so much more. If it hadn’t been for you, I would’ve probably been just another naive girl who thinks she knows a lot but apparently doesn’t.

I know I flaunt myself to be a great writer but when it comes to you, I get lost for words. Maybe because the words that describe you, don’t exist. And it’s like I don’t belong to myself. It’s like you’ve claimed me yours. You have captured me in every way. And, you’re not willing to let go. I don’t want you to, either.

If only I had some supernatural powers, I’d make the world stop, so that you and I could be the only ones enjoying all the great things in it. But then, we don’t really care about who thinks what, do we? You are everything that matters to me. And, I know it’s the same for you too.

For now, I believe, I’ll resort to writing these letters to you of all the things I want to say to you. Everything I have ever felt and you have made me feel, these letters would hold all my secrets.

You’re probably sleeping right now and I hope you’re dreaming about me. Because I will be, in a few minutes…”

And so I did…

5 best ways to conclude your narrative essay

0

The very idea of writing a paper dedicated to a certain topic may throw off kilter any student, even the most knowledgeable one. Writing calls for a perfect combination of many skills and attainments, so not many students can handle it. Some struggle on their own, others ask for help from professional writers of reliable writing services like spider essay where they get timely and top-level assistance.

If you are stuck with narrative essay writing, here you can find workable ideas how to finish your essay, as nothing is more frustrating than struggling all way through the essay structure and getting waylaid at the very end.

Successful strategies of wrapping up the narrative essay

Often writers make meaning perfectly plain on what readers have to think or feel after finishing reading the paper instead of leading the reader to a needed conclusion but this conclusion has to be made by the reader single-handed. To achieve it, use one of these tips:

  • Spring sight into action

Show the image instead of telling your feelings. Do not be afraid to use as many metaphors and allegories as you wish to create a vivid image that causes certain sensations. If you doubt in the efficiency of using other ways of ending the essay, use image!

  • Use action

Do not tell about your feelings – show in movements and actions how these feelings make you do something. Avoid demonstrativeness as thus you state clearly what feelings should your readers feel.

  • Conclusive dialogue

If there were dialogues in the essay, such approach will be appropriate for the ending also. It can work out, if you do not include message or moral in the dialog. For some this way may sound strange and challenging, but trust us, the ending dialog may become an icing on the cake of your paper.

  • Use a reflection

If you want to add some clarity to the paper, then reflection is your way of ending. Tell what you think about the subject and how the things described in the essay affected you. Reflection deals with your experience and doesn’t show your feelings, so readers won’t be forced to feel like you want them to.

  • Summarizing

This is the most common way to wrap up the essay. There you have to provide brief statements of the main ideas stated in the paper. Thus you have to restate the main events (but that does not mean that you have to rewrite the whole paper!). As a result, in a few sentences you have to recollect important points and your perception of these events.

These are the main and the most performant ways of concluding the essay – use them to get the best possible writing experience!

ANIMALS AND CREATURES SENT TO SPACE!!

0

Whenever we hear the words animals in space, one thing that comes in mind is about Laika, the dog. Laika was sent to the space by Russia, but it was not the first living creature sent to the space. Several successful and unsuccessful attempts had been already carried out since the post-world war II.

After the end of the Second World War, there existed a space race between U.S.A. and Russia. This led to many space tech advancements and various experiments with unmanned, manned and missions including animals and plants.

WHY ANIMALS WERE SENT TO SPACE?

We all know several products, medicinal drugs are being tested on vertebrate creatures like mice, monkeys, rabbits, etc., before they are available to humans.

This is done to examine the physical effects and causes in the biological environment and then later assured whether they are fail-safe for humans or not.

Similarly, Animals were sent to space to examine their endurance on space flights, effect of radiations above ionosphere and study of support of life in space!

Here’s a list several living creatures sent to space:

Fruit flies:

The first ever animals sent in space were fruit flies by U.S. V-2 missions in 1947 to study the effects of radiation exposure at extreme heights and all of the flies were recovered alive.

Even Russia sent Fruit flies in the year 1960 in the Sputnik V mission which had 15 flasks of flies, several other animals were also sent through this mission.

Monkeys:

Monkeys of several species were flown into space including the chimpanzees.

Albert missions by U.S. which launched V-2 rockets consisted of four missions. First mission was with a monkey named Albert I which was a  failure and couldn’t make it to the space. But Albert II a rhesus monkey was the first monkey to reach the space.

Later Albert III and Albert IV monkeys were launched but lead to rocket failures. In all these Albert missions started in 1949, unfortunately no monkey made it alive.

In May 1959 monkeys named Able and Baker became the first monkeys to make a successful spaceflight and return alive.

Ham and Enos were the two chimpanzees to orbit Mercury and are successfully surviving the space flights.

Dogs:

Soviet Union or Russia  launched several dogs in space in 1950’s. All of them were stray dogs as they could handle extreme cold and found capable to handle the same at high altitudes.

Laika the Dog was first animal to be sent into the complete orbit of Earth but died in the spaceflight due to stress and heat in the year 1957.

Dogs named Tsygan and Dezik had also been sent to space in 1951 before the Laika. They were  not sent into the orbit. The Dogs Belka and Strelka were the first dogs to return alive from the orbit.

Before the successful manned mission of USSR’S Yuri Gagarin in 1961, more than 10 dogs into the space were sent.

The first moon landing in 1969 by Neil Armstrong in the Apollo X1 mission gathered a lot of attention. Thus ending attention to Space flights including Animals.

Together U.S.A., Russia, France, China, Japan have sent several animals and creatures like Dogs, Monkeys, Cats, Rabbits, Mice, Rats, Frogs, Spiders, Tortoises, Flies, Worms, Bees, Ants and Fish. Several types of Plants were also included in various space missions.

What causes skin Rash?

0
skin diseases

rash is a change of the skin which affects its color, appearance, or texture. A rash may be localized in one part of the body, or affect all the skin. Rashes may cause the skin to change color, itch, become warm, bumpy, chapped, dry, cracked or blistered, swell, and might be painful.

Rash is one of the major health or skin issues which not only girls but even boys (including adults and small babies) do suffer. Since each and every person possesses different skin type, so, it has been seen at generally different weather types. Some skin types show such problems in summers or some in winters or even some in any other situation or condition including more exposure to heat, cold, sunlight, or any other cosmetic product or any biological issue.

What to all know about skin rash- either related to one’s health or the weather?

Whether it’s cold and dry or hot and humid, an area’s climate can really affect the skin all over your body, causing everything from acne breakouts to itchy dry patches. Extremes in weather — both hot and cold — can exacerbate some existing skin conditions or even cause new ones.

SUMMER SKIN RASHES:

For many Australians, summer means outdoor activities. Many people get sunburn during the summer months and sun safety is important for all of us. But aside from sunburn, some people may get other rashes.

These rashes can be caused by things like sunlight, insects, sweating  and overheating during the summer months- especially if they have allergies and/or pre-existing skin conditions.

WINTER RASHES:

Many people struggle with dry, cracked, and irritated skin due to the cold weather that the winter months bring. These skin problems are an annual occurrence for some folks, but how do you know if that “winter rash” isn’t something more serious?

Here are some common skin illnesses found during the winter months and what you can do about them.

Three Common Winter Skin Conditions:

  • Eczema (Dermatitis): Symptoms involved- red, itchy and dry skin patches commonly found on face, hands and feet.
  • Folliculitis: symptoms involved- red, painful and inflamed hair follicles Commonly found on face, scalp and groin
  • Rosacea: symptoms involved- rashes, redness, small pus-filled bumps Commonly found on face

 Two Winter Skin Tips

  • Moisturize– Dry skin is more prone to irritation and infection and Apply to high-abrasion areas: face, hands, feet, elbows and knees
  • Stay Warm– Wear gloves, hats, scarves and coats, secondly- exposure causes dry skin, cracking and redness

Changes in the skin, ranging from discoloration to new growth, may sometimes be early signs of more serious underlying health problems, dermatologists say.

“I think of us as medical detectives,” said Dr. Doris Day, a dermatologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. “I’m always looking for that clue— when did this change happen, why it’s here, what are the other symptoms … Those clues will help me find what’s going on inside, both in the mind and the body”.

Facts from the Movie KAABIL

0

‘Khel un logo ne shuru kiya hai, tamasha aap sab ne dekha hai, khatm mai karunga!’

Well, this is one of the amazing dialogues from the movie Kaabil and everyone is super excited to watch Hritikh Roshan and Yami Gautam starrer movie. We all know by watching the trailers that the protagonists are playing visually impaired people in this flick. It is not new in Bollywood to bring visually challenged people as leads, but what still makes this movie sought after and intriguing is the thing for discussion here. Director Sanjay Gupta is catering to a vision which seems very promising. Let us take a look about what he is bringing for audience through this movie.

Sanjay Gupta and Hritikh Roshan Working together for the first time!

There has always been comfort level between actor and director when they work after first collaboration. It is surprising to know that Hritikh and Sanjay shared fabulous relationship despite Kaabil being their first collaboration. Hritikh was quoted saying that for him it was important to surrender to the director, and that trust comes when you believe in director’s vision. Just after signing the movie, he developed great rapport with Sanjay, and that was why he felt remarkably comfortable with him.

Challenges of playing a visually disabled character

Hritikh says that portraying something which an actor is not in person, is acting. And to put reality in acting something which an actor did not experience personally is very difficult. So playing visually disabled was hard. He says that his eyes always flinched while he did action scenes because the brain was receiving messages, so, in a sense, one has to fool one’s brain! He further adds that when he did Guzarish and Koi Mil Gaya, he thought those were hard roles to pull off. But after playing a blind, he feels that this role was hardest for him to play.

Sanjay Gupta celebrates the compliment his actor received from people which says ‘even in pposters Hritikh looks blind.’ The director feels that the effort of Hritikh were so deep, that it was evident not just in the movie, but in still frames too.

Not a normal superstar movie

Director says that this is not a movie about Bollywood obsession which talks about flaunting six-packs and pummelling bad guys. This was also not a movie where a disabled person is having all sympathies of world. It is a movie which inspires, and gives courage to people who have some physical challenges. It is to show that these people are above abject of sympathy.
About the trailer

Some people complained that Kaabil’s trailer gave a lot of information about the plot of the movie. But the director completely disagrees and says that trailers being the most important thing in the movies, should be compelling enough to hook audience. And if people think that Kaabil’s trailer gave a lot, we have much more content hidden in movie. It is a misconception that things are totally clear from the trailer.

Clash with Raees

When inquired about the same releasing date, the actor and director very calmly said that if the releasing dates are same, it us not crime or unethical. But having said that, same releasing dates of two big movies affects the industry in terms of box office prospects. It is unfortunate but without blames.

Kaabil starring Yami Gautam and Hritikh Roshan , directed by Sanjay Guota, is set to hit the screens on 27th January, 2017.

GOING THE ‘LEGALLY FUN’ WAY – AND THIS TIME IT’S AKSHAY!

0

It has almost been four years since the first part of Jolly LLB was released and it’s still an interesting one to watch taking the socially relevant side of it into consideration. Now in 2017, Fox Star Studios is at it again. There is a bit of hype associated with the sequel this time though, with Akshay Kumar playing the lead with Huma Qureshi by side. The first one had Arshad Warsi battling it out in the courtroom and Boman Irani playing a worthy competitive antagonist.

THE STARS- From prequel to sequel

We all liked Arshad Warsi for his natural spontaneity but would really love if the series went really forward. And with Arshad himself accepting that Akshay would be a better star cast for the sequel, this is no deal breaker, and would prove out to be a bigger commercial success. But we’d have really adored it if was Arshad who played the ‘Zero to hero’ lawyer again.

The female protagonist is Huma Qureshi who seems no less than fit for the role. There is Annu Kapoor playing the strong, and difficult to handle opposition.

A trailer to watch

We loved the energy the trailer that released in December had, and makes it seem that there is something in the film to definitely look out for. The trailer begins with a sarcastic mood.

“Salman Khan ki shaadhi kab hogi?”

Well, how often do you see lawyers asking these questions? But this man has a mind of his own and says- “A good lawyer never return the fee”. Soon we see his real side requesting the judge to go easy on him, telling otherwise he’d have to return the money.

Dialogues-On the punchier side

First thing first, Akshay knows how to deliver, be it action, comedy, or reality. His common man nature and ability to look more like the character than himself has definitely helped the film. There are mostly punchy dialogues and intolerance in the trailer, but it may not seem so in the first go. But just listen to it again, and you would understand.

Just take this for an example,

“Beta jo vakil paise vapas de na, voh vakil nahi” (Listen, a lawyer who returns the money, is not one) emphasizes on his attitude.

And it’s not bound to Akshay alone. Even the opposing Annu Kapoor gets his lines and chances at parts of the trailer. And if did not watch the trailer, you can do it from the link above.

Songs- love it or not!

The songs definitely do not ruin the mood, and packs the energy required for such a genre of films. The Go Pagal song with Akshay dancing amidst the flying colors is a sure treat to watch. The screen is just filled with colors and who wouldn’t like it?

There are more songs in the list like, Jolly good fellow and Bawara Mann that are now trending on YouTube. The views of these songs alone account to more than ten times the views that the  trailer of the prequel received on YouTube.

RELEASE AND DATES

The trailer got released in December, and the release of the film is set for the 10th of February 2017.

WATCH IT???

There is no reason to not watch it. The trailer highlights of the movie being a worthy entertainer, and the Jolly series is nothing to be unsure of, we all know what to expect. The only question is whether the hopes would deliver. In a way the storyline seems a bit- I mean very little- of what we call conventional and predictive. But this does not mean that it is not unique in its own way.  It definitely is one of its kind.A bit of twist in the plot at the end would do the trick.

Iss duniya ke sabse bade zahil ne kaha tha… ki ishq aur jung mein sub kuck jayaz hain.” (meaning “The world’s biggest lie is, Everything is fair in love and war”)

Oh!!! We simply love it. And we’d have to say Muskurayenge Mathur sahib, muskurayenge….. par iss film ki release hone ke baad…. which would mean “We’ll smile for sure Mathur sir, but after the film is out and running…..”.
