TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

0

Tribes are the poorest section of Indian population. They are socially, educationally and economically most deprived, exploited and suffering injustice since ages. Though in the Indian Constitution, the rights ensuring social justice is elaborated in Articles 12 to 35 on the Fundamental Rights of the Indian citizens, social justice has not progressed an inch further in today’s world. The tribals don’t even know what the rule of law is or what social justice means. The tribals form 8.2% of the national population leaving aside the Union Territories where they constitute a substantial share of population, but they are denied political power even in states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, and Madhya Pradesh, where they form 20% of the state population. So, for a stronger country we need to develop every part of the state on a equal basis.

In this era of modernization, poverty elimination has become one of the most important goals of the government. Two decades of economic reforms and drum beating about inclusive growth seem to have failed to change the face of tribal and rural communities. Hence, The Twelfth Five Year Plan which in effect since 1st April, 2012 announced that special efforts will be made to bring the tribals and other marginalized sections at par with other sections of the society. Even in the 21st century the tribes are far behind in comparison with other segments of the society on all the Human Development indicators. Their ancestral lands have been encroached and their culture is also under threat due to the prevailing problems of the modern development projects. The historical game of preying upon the tribals, their areas and their resources (both renewable and non renewable), adds to their impoverishment and the enrichment of the administrative and the political class. One can easily attach the negligence of the tribal community with the growth of Naxal Movement which has affected partially almost one third of the entire country. Therefore it is a fact that the fruit of development has not been divided on equal level which in turn propelled anarchism and Hobessian state of nature.

TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

Thus, for the development and steady improvement of our country’s economy, we need to uplift and empower the tribes or Adivasis or constitutionally termed STs which also includes development of the tribal women. As Amartya Sen argued that women must be accommodated in the mainstreaming process of development and then only a particular society can be perceived as being developed. The tribal women constitute as in any other social group, about half of the total population. However, the importance of women in the tribal society is more important than any other social groups in India, because the family economy and management depends upon their hard work. Generally, tribal women have enjoyed greater freedom and higher status than women of other classes. Such as the Naga women have the right to choose their husband and are never forced to marry against their will. Additionally, widow burning, occupational segregation and hierarchical family structure with women placed at lowest position are absent in tribal communities. Many tribal societies are matrilineal and women in such social structures enjoy inheritance rights and privileges that are mostly absent in patriarchal societies. As per the 1931 Census, the sex ratio for the tribal groups has been approximately equal, whereas the number of female relative to male has been consistently lower for the mainstream population.

TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA

The literacy rate for women, however, is low but for the tribal women it is worse. Literacy should be given more importance as it leads to social, cultural, and economic development and also gives women more autonomy and freedom. Few matrilineal societies encourage female literacy and higher female labour market participation which gives women greater involvement in family and social activities. The highest tribal female literacy rate is in Mizoram (86.95%) but in majority of tribal women literacy rate is very low. This low level of literacy is preventing them from being skilled. Though the tribal women have high labour force participation than non tribal women, but they are mainly in low grade jobs. We know that in many tribal societies, women is considered as an economic asset and more importance is given to hardworking wife, but they don’t have the economic opportunity to work in skilled and high earning jobs mainly due to low literacy rate. Therefore, their capacity building may be the key to their all round empowerment.

What if I Ever Blew it off?

0

The way you cloy things up,

Leaves me lovestruck.

Makes me forget the path so dark and flaky.

Just don’t know why,

I’m so crestfallen.

You’re the best I have ever known

The phase would be the hardest when you’re gone.

What if I Ever Blew it off?

I am hating the days going by so fast

Trying hard not to think when

All of it falls apart.

Will you forgive me if I ever blew it off?

I know it’s gonna be tough

None of us is used to this kind of rough.

What if I Ever Blew it off?

I need your love all the time

It’s like the priceless dime

And sourest lime.

And now I have ran out of words to rhyme!

What if I Ever Blew it off?

The Lucky Ones-Poetry.

How beautiful is the Poetry of the ones
Whose hearts ache of last nights love.
That left them and their shirts,
crumpled on the bed sheets.

Like feathers of a willful bird,
Gotten hurt from a branch of home.
That now withers on the roads,
without a flight.

How lucky are these men , that cry.
Silently behind their closet doors
And their tears are mistaken
for sweat dripping off their cheeks.

As the nerves of their hearts shrink
Into tiny queues of ants, until
Their eyes break into hundreds
of these creatures.

How lucky are the ones,
Whose hearts ache of last nights love
And in the morning,
No one even knows about it.

Social media and its effect on daily lives

0

Social media, you put a 140 character status and the whole world knows what you are upto.  It has now become a means to communicating with the world when you are either distant or just besides that person. This has also raised the question that is it making you go away from people? This is highly debated. But there are many other aspects to it as well.

Social media is no longer just for entertainment but is slowly transforming the businesses around the world too. Business houses, whether big or small are now entering into digital marketing and thus trying to boost their sales. The highest no. of social media users fall in the age group of 18 to 34 years thus making a whole new market amongst themselves only. If one has to look at the numbers, social media platforms have done a great deal of help in influencing buyers.

Social media and its effect on daily lives

Amongst the various media for digital marketing,  Facebook has emerged out as a big giant. There are more than 40 million business pages that are active on FB currently. However here comes the size and scalability factor of business. Amongst these, only 4 million are the ones that pay for advertising. The ads that are paid for definitely get more hits and views if speaking in technical terms. For a lay man, these are initiatives that get you customers. But having said that, it is also important to maintain quality in your digital marketing activities. Businesses go for blogs, content, feedbacks and many other activities.

Many corporates and business houses are now approaching Facebook with hopes to get good digital marketing such that their in store sales would increase. Few of them include much widely used and very successful products like Veet and many products from the house of Garnier. Thus there is no amusement in saying that the contemporary means of marketing are sure to take a fall sooner or later. Digital Medias are all set to take over the contemporary sooner than later. But still there are many products that require a personal touch and thus will need human intervention.

Power of Dollar and Federal Reserve

0

Dollar is the Alpha and the Omega when it comes to currency markets. In short dollar brings in the full might of the most powerful country on earth and has the backing of the biggest central bank in the world, The Federal Reserve. Now, predominantly it was gold that initially dictated the fate of various currencies after the Bretton Woods agreement. But after the Nixon shock, the gold standard was let go and currencies were traded in a free float format that is present till this day.

If we look at the main reason for the world to move on from the gold standard comes down to the fact that there is not much physical gold in the world. All the gold present, if melted and poured in Olympic swimming pool size reservoirs, the reservoirs filled will only be three.

Power of Dollar and Federal Reserve

This scarcity of physical gold became the biggest hindrance in global free trade and circulation of currencies. So, instead of being pegged to gold, dollar became a market free float currency. This type of currency derives its value from the demand they possess in the market. Thus, if the central bank that prints the currency has strong fundamentals, the currency demand is high. After the initial depreciation of dollar after conversion into a free float currency, it has become the currency that everyone runs to in the time of crisis.

The values of other currencies come from the inflow of dollar in the country. So, after Brexit as anticipated that the UK will take an economic hit, dollars started flowing out of UK which led to the depreciation of GBP.

China with their managed currency, depreciates the Yuan by buying dollars from the market and circulating more Yuan in the market. By this act of buying dollar an artificial demand is created for US dollar and buy increasing the circulation of Yuan an artificial heightened supply of Yuan is created leading to Yuan been depreciated against dollar.

In conclusion, the policies of the Federal Reserve have always driven the demand of dollar against other currencies and will remain to be so in near future due to the fundamentals of the institution. For any person it is very important to know about how the world is functioning and what better way is there to do this than to understand economy and the various aspects it depends upon.

Walmart- A Retail Giant

0

Walmart is an American multinational retail corporation that operates a chain of discount departmental stores and warehouse stores. Known for its working style “everyday lowest price”, the selling proposition of Walmart is that it provides the products at the least price in the market.  It has got over 11000 stores in 28 countries, under a total of 65 banners.  Walmart does no production on its own and hence just provides the service of making the products available, employing 2.2 million employees and hence becoming the world’s largest company in terms of employees. Also Walmart is the world’s largest company by revenue.

Over the past ten years, Walmart has become the world’s largest and arguably most powerful retailer with the highest sales per square foot, inventory turnover and operating profit of any discount retailer. All this success can be attributed to the logistical and operational triumphs of the retail giant by effective supply chain management. Walmart works in this direction and manages to keep an average inventory of $32 billion, bringing products from over 70 countries.

The biggest issue faced is due to the advent of technology enabling consumers to shop sitting at their homes via online apps. Also changing shopping habits due to increased taxes etc. have affected the sales. People on normal shopping days are more inclined to buy cheaper goods and hence the revenues are falling. Many researchers have also brought into light problems related to internal functioning.

Walmart- A Retail Giant

With the right use of technology and excellent implementation of supply chain management and six sigma it has shortened its processes to the extent that today its annual turnover is 500 billion $. The business process reengineering done by keeping in mind the latest changes in technology and the money  value  of time, since its inception, Walmart has never looked back. Careful calculation and analysis of the current scenario, what the customer wants (customer centricity), demographic characteristics and changing patterns of consumption. Seeing the orientation of people of America towards healthy food, in January 2011, Walmart introduced a program to improve the nutritional value of its brand stores. This was aimed to be achieved in the coming five years, with main focus on reducing the content of sugar, salt and Trans-fats.

Walmart also knows how to harness the power of technology to minimize its cost of work and hence provide the customers with the lowest price and high living standards. An apt example of this can be P&G, which is one of the primary suppliers to Walmart. P&G and Walmart are both major players in their fields and have shown an effective partnership by using information technology, sharing data across their mutual supply chains. Since the activities are well coordinated and effective communication, inventory has been reduced to what the customers actually want. . This integration of the supply-chain information systems will become increasingly important both for enhancing business-to-business electronic commerce and for supporting the increasing volume and customization in business-to-consumer electronic commerce.

Six Sigma is a meticulous methodology that makes use of information management by facts and statistical analysis to define measure and improve a company’s operational performance, practices and systems. Walmart also uses six sigma to find out if a product is good or defective. The aim is to find out the flaws occurring in the sample.

Something incredible about: The Dream Camp

0

Our world is a beautiful place to live in and there exists some truly amazing souls to make sure of it. Make a Difference has been working since more than 10 years now for not only the education but also the overall development of kids. One such project put together by MAD to take our children one step closer to their dreams which brings a smile on everyone who is a part of MAD family is THE DREAM CAMP.

Something incredible about: The Dream Camp

Make a Difference mobilizes the youth to ensure equitable outcomes for children. Presently the national Non-Government Organization impacts the lives of over 3,460 children in 67 shelters across 23 cities in India.

Happiness can never be pursued but once achieved is embraced for a life time. The camp which takes place over a course of 3 days is an unforgettable memory for everyone who attends it. When children and volunteers are asked what the best part of MAD is it isn’t surprising when a large number never fail to take the name of DREAM CAMP at the very first place.Something incredible about: The Dream Camp

The smiles, giggles, excitements, fear are all mixed feelings which the children have, while we are on the way to the venue. The creativity volunteers’ show at the time of planning is commendable. Some provide a badge to everyone to give an exciting starting; some give a ticket for the journey to the venue; as the fairy tale land arrives, the happiness of those kids who hardly get vacations cannot be measured.

The sessions in dream camp are carefully thought out and put into action keeping in mind the overall growth of the kids. The Beautiful You session help them understand how outer appearance is nothing as compared to inner beauty. This session not only makes them understand their qualities but also makes us realize what a precious part of the society is neglected by many of us just because of the outward appearance. The River of Life session helps them realize that no matter what problems they have faced in life, the river of life flows on. This is the most intense session in the whole DC where children share the darkest parts of life in a closed group to their mentors. These stories are truly touching and make our problems seem like a drop of water compared to their ocean of worries.

Children learn how they have survived them all and the river is always flowing while we learn how blessed we all are. The bond with children strengthens after this session. The Dream tree or bulls eye session is emphasized to help them make their own roadmap towards their dreams by allowing them to introspect and identify their strengths, weaknesses and what the
need to do to reach for the stars.

The DREAM CAMP is not only about sessions, the new food experience for the children where you can see how every bite can turn into a delight. The new sports experience where the adrenaline rush keeps them eager to learn more. The moments mentors have with children of their group, the shared secrets and the constant smiles are amazing. Everything is like a dream for these children who are termed less fortunate and a dream for the volunteers who get so much to learn and enjoy in these few days.Something incredible about: The Dream Camp

The last but not the least is the Gratitude session. Everyone writes for each other in which the outrageous bonds are sprinkled with the fairy dust. The loving letters of the mentors written to children and the beautiful love children show by writing lovely letters to team MAD makes it all worth it.Something incredible about: The Dream Camp

The goodbyes are hard and with teary eyes everyone bids farewell to the DREAM CAMP with a hope for the dream to continue next year.

Make a Difference has been doing ground-breaking work in the field of education for a long time but still many are not aware of the cause. So here is to all who feel like being a part of MAD after reading this article – YES WE ARE RECRUITING!!!!!!
