The Secret Taboo

0

How bizarre it feels when, one day, you wake up and realize that you are no more a girl. You are a woman now. Yes, you start menstruating and the world seems buoyant of you becoming a woman. But, then, it also tells you to keep it a secret from others. They tell you to wrap your sanitary napkins in a newspaper or a black poly bag. But, a day before, they were paying you homage for the same thing. So, Why is there such confusion amongst people regarding our system of biology? Is it a bad thing? Isn’t it just a thing of natural living of a woman?

The Secret Taboo

Well, the world never fails to mystify us in any way. The stereotype exists in every corner of the mankind. Even a thing like menstruation is committed to some kind of stereotypes. The orthodox intrusive view of this biology is that it is ‘impure’. This biology which succour a woman to implant a life inside her womb is considered dirty and profane. It seems that the world itself is pretty confused .It celebrates your onset of womanhood and then hides it. Dear would , can you not have one straight opinion ?

Saloni Chopra, the MTV Girls on Top fame actress has been in news from a while now for strong opinions and her feminist’s views. It is amazing how she has always been so vocal about her strongholds and never shy away from formulating it in front of her fans. In a post, Chopra writes :

The Secret Taboo

“That’s right, it’s just blood. Y’know who gave it more importance than it needs? You. You who celebrated my very 1st menstrual cycle.. said it made me a woman. Then you told me to never discuss it publicly. First, you made me feel proud of becoming, then you made me feel there was something wrong with me. You told me I couldn’t visit holy places.

You conditioned me to love cooking, but you wouldn’t let me, that day. You yelled when I lit the Diya in the mandir that morning. The kids at school laughed at me & my friends didn’t sit next to me, bcos my blue skirt was red. I ate my lunch alone, crying in the washroom. I wasn’t very proud of being a girl that day. Then I grew older & I met boys.. boys that liked me. boys that knew nothing about periods but got disgusted every time a pad fell out of my bag. I couldn’t fathom that women raised such men. My girlfriends always whispered about it.. were they ashamed? My colleagues thought I was being a bitch bcos I was “PMSing” – my boss thought that was just my lame excuse to take a day off. I guess his penis never bled, he didn’t know what it felt like to have his hormones go on a rollercoaster ride every month, yet all they could grasp from it was that period were “yuck” & girls act “crazy” on them. I’m not mad at you cos I’m on my period, I’m mad at you for the ignorant moron you are. You think I’m overreacting when I speak about inequality, then you cringe at the idea of vaginal blood.

You think it’s impure. From you who gave birth to me, to you that wants to marry me, listen carefully – there is nothing about me that is “impure” every month. I’m not the creation of the devil. I’ll have as many conversations about my menstrual cycle as I please, I will cook as many meals as I like & enter as many places of worship as I want to. For those 5 days, maybe you should keep your impure selves out of my kitchen, my temple, my work place & come back when you’re ready to accept my body. I will never, ever accept my tampons wrapped in a newspaper again – there’s a lot more dirt printed in that than a woman’s body could ever produce. And if you try to hush-hush me, I’ll only scream louder. Sincerely, Every. Damn. Girl.”

The Secret Taboo

Well done Saloni. You said everything we were always wanting to say from ever. Thank you for talking about this taboo so fiercely. Hope people get this vibe soon.

FASCINATING LOOK OF FASHION

0
#fashion
fashion fade, style is eternal.....

Flowers Fashion is always considered the important part of our life. It has been following from the ancient time, as time passed by, the fashion trends changed. In the olden times, fashion was regarded as the possession for the high class people who party every day. But, as time and thinking of people have changed, the view about fashion also changed.

In today’s world fashion is accepted by people of all class and culture. Fashion is a word, which is recognized by all people of the society. India being a country of various culture and tradition has also accepted fashion in its own way. Fashion designers work hard to fulfill the wish of all people from various backgrounds.

Why fashion is important?

FASCINATING LOOK OF FASHIONFashion and style differ depending on several factors, including culture and traditions. Nearly every culture and religion has its own style of dress which sets it apart from others. Fashion plays an important role in establishing identity, beliefs and thoughts throughout the world.

Fashion also enables people to display personality and personal preferences. It allows people to show off not only dressing style, but provides an opportunity to set trends. Feeling comfortable in certain clothing or fashion pieces also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, so fashion has a large influence on society in most areas of the world, and trends are usually established through advertising.

Social Role of Fashion

What is the importance of fashion for social life and what role does it play in society? The question is important as we find people often victims of fashion. Fashion promises no utility; it makes no appeal to reason and being a fugitive and transitory deviation has little effect on the major trends of social change yet it has a strong hold over the people. Fashion satisfies two strong demands of social man- the demand for novelty and the demand for conformity. It turns the desire for novelty into social practice and makes novelty the right and proper thing for the group. It is human nature to aspire for distinction. Man does not love by security alone. He yearns for something new for variety and novelty. Fashion satisfies this desire and also succeeds in accommodating this desire to the rule of conformity. Thus fashion satisfies some important desires of man whose satisfaction is necessary for his living in society.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Fashion

Fashion facilitates social change by providing a transitional stage from one custom to another. It tends to modify the rigidity of custom and the belief in its importance. It prepares the mind for a change so that people may not feel a jerk on changing to customs. Maclver writes, “Fashion plays at the surface where resistance is least responding to the social whim of the moment, discovers on this level a compensation for the restraints of custom and habit and routine of life. Through its passing conformities it helps to bridge the greater transitions of the process of social change. Fashion radiates generally from the higher class people the so called prestige owning people. Some film star or a leader sets in motion a new style in dress or recreation which is later picked up by other people. This enhances the prestige of the upper classes and those imitating them.

HEALTHY HABITS MAKES HEALTHY YOU

Food refers to anything that is eaten to provide energy and keep the body healthy. It forms an important part of many Ghanaian customs and traditions. Whilst some foods are not regarded as food at all by some groups, the same foods are delicacies for others. As a caterer you need to learn about the role food plays in the life of the different people you have to cater for. People need food especially because it keeps them healthy and offer enjoyment. If the food you offer for sale does not do any of the above people may not patronize your services. This is why it is important for you to learn how to make wise food choices and provide the kinds of food your varied customers want.

Explanation of food habits

Have you ever traveled away from home for many days? While you were away, did you long for some of the foods you are used to eating back home? If you do, your longing for the home food is the results of the habit you have cultivated around those foods.

When you travel from the East Coast of Ghana to the West, you would notice the various ways in which food commodities are used. maize, for example, is used to make ‘akpele’ by Ewes, Gas would use it for ‘komi’, Efutus would use it for ‘etsew’, Fantes would make ‘ntew’ from it and Ahantas would use it for ‘fomfom’. These corn dishes are eaten with different kinds of sauces and soups depending on who is eating it.

Again, have you observed how people eat their food? Some people use their fingers, others use cutlery and still others use chop sticks. All of these describe the food habits of people. Food Habits is therefore the way in which people select, cook, serve and eat foods that are available to them. Food habits differ from one ethnic group to another and from one country to another. These differences come about because of many influences on people.

Effect of Food Habits on food choice

Having looked at some of the factors that make you form or change your food habits, can you deduce how these food habits affect your food choice?

The food habits you form as a result of nutrition education would normally remain with you for the rest of your life because they are based on facts. These habits would help you make informed food choices which would help you to improve your health. However, habits formed as a results of improvement in economic status would change when the status changes. A poor person who becomes rich would immediately change his eating habits and sometimes food choices become poor as a result.

Food habits and the catering industry

Customers normally buy foods they are familiar with and foods which have appetite appeal, that is, the kinds of food they like and enjoy. To be a successful caterer you always have to consider your customers’ likes and dislikes. You have to consider the times people like to eat their food and how they want the food served to them. The customers’ food habits must be an important consideration otherwise people will not patronize your establishment.

Exposure to Foods

There are innumerable flavors and food combinations. A liking for some flavors or food combinations is easily acceptable, but others must develop or be learned. Sweetness is a universally acceptable flavor, but a taste for salty, savory, spicy, tart, bitter, and hot flavors must be learned. The more a person is exposed to a food—and encouraged to eat it—the greater the chances that the food will be accepted. As the exposure to a food increases, the person becomes more familiar and less fearful of the food, and acceptance may develop. Some persons only eat specific foods and flavor combinations, while others like trying different foods and flavors.

Milk and Honey

While writing has always been a word play for us, Rupi Kaur decided to mould her own castle through the twist of her own words . Formulating something so beautiful , Milk and Honey gives us a wide view of the nucleus of bizzare feelings, pain ,love and femininity.

Kaur, through her writing and illustrations sent a powerful message to the readers in her book Milk and Honey. The chronicle of intrusive pain and divine love has been arrayed in a very enticing way. The book of poems and prose had been divided into four parts and in a very alluring way.

Some of the lines of Kaur’s poems are so ravishing and relatable that it keeps you going through pages. Here are some of Kaur’s structured and charismatic lines from Milk and Honey:

Tech + Community = The abof Approach

0

Since its launch in 2015, abof has been capturing a significant market share of the online fashion segment. The Aditya Birla-owned website lists more than 120 brands in its inventory including house brands Van Heusen and Allen Solly. The website also got onto the celebrity ‘brand wagon’ with Shahid Kapoor’s SKULT, a label focused on comfortable and edgy urban-wear.

However, what has been setting the website apart from the rest of the competitors is a focus on creating a fashion eco space that goes beyond the basic display and size chart template, but also adding snippets like fashion tips for each product and customised homepages featuring trends and news. This has not just been a strong content approach, but there has been an integration of technology like AI and virtual reality to enhance the browsing public’s page experience.

Virtual Reality – Bringing the Mall and the Mouse Closer

Fashion is unique. It is that premise on which all the marketing is done, as sites try to sell consumers not just a garment but an image with a story. There lies the biggest challenge for a fashion e-tailer, when it comes to bridging the gaps with physical retail. Unlike electronics or books, each garment needs to keep up to its exclusiveness and has to fit and feel right. This gap will not be filled anytime soon, but efforts are on.

abof’s most technical feature is the recent roll-out of the 3D trial room. Currently available on select items in the clothes for women section, it allows customers to choose avatars, add their own measurements and try on a garment virtually. Opposed to archaic 2D attempts at the same, this feature uses 3D imaging to give a more accurate representation of what a customer would see in the mirror of a real life trial room.

Creating a Community

One of the most repeated statements since the launch of abof is how it approaches the consumer as part of a larger community of fashion enthusiasts. The site has backed it up since then with multiple features that make users pause their shopping, read up on something new and consider a new addition to their lists of things to buy. Integrating AI and the browsing habits of regular customers (or visitors), abof has introduced customised landing pages that use old data to predict user choices. In other words, recommendations, tips and other content is customised and personalised. It remains to be seen how much this new feature will add to actual online shopping conversions.

Post Sales Continuity

Post-sales is the one area where not just online retailers but the entire Indian retail market is not known to earn many points. Consumers in developed global markets rarely have to fret over returns policies as guidelines are strict and ensure efficiency. Along with its endeavour to be a prime fashion portal of a high standard, abof’s 24-hour money back policy also adds a great sense of amicability with the buyer, who may now and then, end up with a wrong or ill-fitting product. Customer experience is a term thrown about too often, but how a site handles the customer’s money is indeed one big indicator of loyalty (or not).

With these three features, abof is covering all its bases by adding a good experience for shoppers who are exploring, those who have chosen something and even those who may want something else.

Monsoon Skin care Tips

0

Monsoon is already there!!..

Vital time for skin care!!!

Boys n girls….here are some tips for you …

Skincare is a vital part dear!! No matter what! If you want to keep that beauty on your face, better listen to me 😉

Monsoon means rain rain and rain! And probably you think that your skin is the best at this time. Summer gives tans and we all know how pathetic it is! Winter withers our skin and makes us look far older. But darling, monsoon also harms the skin. Maybe you think your skin is all okay but it isn’t. So just listen to my tips and advice 😉

BOYSSSS I DIDN’T MISS YOU THIS TIME…HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR YOU:

Bathe properly: I am sorry boys but here is the sad truth. You people skip that part and do not so that properly. Monsoon comes with dirt and germs and if you ignore it, you are  going to regret it soon. So always take a hot shower and use antiseptic. You can add it to the water and apply it directly. It will kill the germs and obviously keep you fresh..

Wear clean clothes: please , it is another request for you. I know boys don’t bother and go out without any umbrella. And horribly, they can spend a whole day wearing that! But you people don’t understand how much affected you are going to be. That is why boys fall sick during monsoon more than girls. Hygiene!! Duhhhh>> so wear clean and fresh clothes. Don’t wear same sock day after day!! Dude it smells like shit!!!

***Boys also need to moisturize their skin but maybe that harms their manhood. I will advice you to apply sunscreen and moisturizer. Now it depends on you only whether you are going to follow it or ignore it.***

Girlsss, I know you are going to listen to me 😉

Here are your tips about skincare:

Monsoon Skin care TipsBathe properly: it is the same for everyone. And for girls, it should be taken care of gently. I know about that awkward time of the month. And certainly monsoon is not our lucky time! During that time use hot baths and always keep antiseptic like dettol or savlon in your bathroom. Add it to a bucket full of water and apply it at the end. Use good quality soap because we don’t have the skin of the rhino!!!!

Clothing matters! : wear clean clothes, I would say at first. Clean undies every day and do not repeat. Prefer synthetic material this time because it can not harmed and the colour will be the same as always. Happy news right??….. it will also keep your skin okay and if you are rainsoaked by any chance, take my advice, always keep an extra set of cloth in your bag.

Moisturize your skin: after coming out of shower, moisturize your skin with any hydrating cream. It can me anything but mild. We feel that during this season we are hydrated but nooooooo…..we are wrong! That’s why maximum time our skin feels unhealthy! Monsoon doesn’t add healthy property to our skin. And cream shield also protects us from skin infection.

Clean face twice a day: another important part, cleaning your skin!! Cleanse, wash and scrub your face in the morning. It pulls out the dirt from your skin. And wash your face with before going to bed. Believe me, it does wonders J …you can use any facewash. Scrub should be mild, heavy scrub can harm your skin. Also do know about your skin type and buy the products properly.

Applying sunscreen is a must! : yes yes yes….maybe the sun is low this time but the UV rays are active always. So don’t forget to apply sunscreen before going out. Otherwise say goodbye to your healthy tone…sad na???? oilfree sunscreen is the best at these times….here are some sunscreens I refer..

You can find lakme and other herbal ones in stores.

Makeup: how can I skip this? We need it babe! More or less. But only one advice, use cream based makeup. Don’t use powdered products because it clogs the pores and this is not good for your skin.

That is all…..these are the basics you need to follow to maintain a good skin condition during this rainy season. If you are following these, ohooo! You are ready to go out and enjoy the season to the fullest …………

Intricacy of choosing Humanities subjects - psychology as the 2nd subject

Being a humanities student in India , students and formers may know the complexities and subject biased feelings of choosing the streams before or after their boards.

Intricacy of choosing Humanities subjects - psychology as the 2nd subject

Studying humanities and commerce other than that of science has always been an important and toughest struggling years in a student’s life in high school .

Intricacy of choosing Humanities subjects - psychology as the 2nd subject

None other than our dearest families who would support us but in the same way they have their outrageous power of utterance of words which could highly demotivate us , as they often speak the negativities rather than encouraging them more.

Intricacy of choosing Humanities subjects - psychology as the 2nd subject

Having this experience everyday is being  honoured and be in the legacy . The subject combination that I chose was :

  • English

  • Psychology instead of History/Geography
  • Sociology instead of Political Science
  • Mass Media instead of Multimedia
  • Home science  instead of MATHEMATICS ( yes , that’s not the cup of tea )
  • Painting instead of Vernaculars.

Intricacy of choosing Humanities subjects - psychology as the 2nd subject

All the subjects were ‘ up to the mark ’ but choosing psychology instead of social sciences they said ‘ could posses a problem in future ’ . Naturally , the ‘ hearsay ’ alarmed my choices.  My situations were hopeless cause nobody in family knew the next steps ‘ what was to be done ’,  undoubtedly ‘ I had to Google it ’ , my father didn’t know what was to be done instead of cursing me and spending such serious brass , the outcome was nothing , he himself knew nothing of this field.

  • I searched down my dream colleges in and around INDIA.  Other than Google , for that fractions of time I was clueless and blind.

Selfie: Enjoyment Or Addiction

0
Sisters making selfie. Two beautiful young woman making selfie and grimacing on the mobile phone

A selfie is a gesture that can send different messages to different individuals, communities and audiences. On 13 September 2002,the word “selfie” was first time used in Australian internal forum.

More than 200,000 photographs are uploaded to Facebook every minute. Many of these photographs are selfies: snapshots we capture of ourselves.

Why do we take so many selfies and why do we upload our selfies to online social networks like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat? To find out, psychologists from Germany and Poland tested the personalities of prolific selfie sharers.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE IMAGE

Selfie: Enjoyment Or AddictionDoctors say that Selfitis (selfie-addiction) is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder to take one’s own pictures and post them on social media and broadly divided it into three types: Borderline (taking at least three pictures, but not posting them on social media), acute (taking at least three photos every day and posting them on social media) and chronic severe (taking at least six photos of oneself every day and posting them on social media).

FLIRTING WITH DANGER

Selfie: Enjoyment Or AddictionFor youngsters obsessed with self-clicks, the scary side of crazy fun has a thrill all its own. And courting danger has a whole different rush. “The higher I go, the more fun I have,” says an anonymous selfie-addict. He shares, “I can’t remember a time where I was ever afraid of heights. There’s so much adrenaline rushing through my body that I don’t fully realise what I’m doing. Sometimes I think back and say to myself, ‘What the hell was I thinking?’” He says that over the years he has used social media to shock, surprise and delight his friends and followers with aerial shots of the urban world. That means climbing rooftops and mountains and dangerous roads to get interesting snaps.

“Luckily, I get to travel a lot and that allows me to climb on several skyscrapers across the globe. While I am afraid that my parents would flip out if they got to know of craziest extents that I go to take pictures, I don’t think I can resist the urge to take a snap.” He says that sometimes he even surprises himself with how far he’s willing to go. He’s not afraid to tread narrow walkways and peer over the edge of some of the world’s tallest buildings for an extreme selfie.

There was this one incident when I was booked by the police and got arrested with three of my friends in an abandoned building and charged with criminal trespassing, mischief and what not. They confiscated my camera and my phone and I never got them back. But I won’t let that stop me from doing what I do,” he says.

KEEP IT FUN

Selfie: Enjoyment Or Addiction

Even it comes to taking selfies and posting them on social media, actor Gulshan Devaiah says that he is as guilty as anyone. But he says a selfie for a celebrity is not just a picture, it is his way for interacting and staying connected with his fans. About those who go overboard with selfies, the Hate Story actor says, “This constant need for attention and seeking validation from other people is a mental disorder.

Those who feel this urge to do radical things to get more likes and comments need psychological help. Being an actor, I completely understand that we all love attention but it’s detrimental if it occupies your mind all the time. The attention span a selfie gets you is very small and that’s why youngsters keep posting every few hours. It is here that it stops being fun and becomes dangerous. My suggestion to all those who love taking selfies is to not take likes and views seriously.”
