India on Diwali Night

Indians all over the world has celebrated Diwali on November 11. Diwali is the festival of lights. People decorate their house with lights and Diya’s. It’s celebrated as a win over darkness. Lights illuminate not only the house but also the life. People decorate their house with Diya’s and colorful lights and the most important thing of Diwali is crackers. Sharing increases the bonding in humans.

People perform puja during evening and share sweets. Children like this festival as they can burn lot of crackers. Elders take special care while children burn crackers.as we know that this is festival of lights. Did u imagine how India would appear in this colorful lights? How India would glow in Diya’s? How India would look from space? Wonderful thought isn’t it?3

The National space agency of US, NASA has released some pictures of India from space taken during Diwali evening. On the auspicious Diwali night NASA has released a picture of India, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite captured this night-time view of southern Asia.

2

But all these are fake pictures. Yes all the pictures released after Diwali night are fake pictures which create a havoc in social media. The image is based on data collected by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite. This detects light in a range of wavelengths from green to infrared. The image has been brightened to make the city lights easier to distinguish. NASA has confirmed that most of the bright areas in the imagery released by it are cities and towns in India. The image is the population of India during 1998,1999 and 2003.Cities in Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan are also visible on the edges of the image. An image that claims to show the region lit for Diwali has been circulating on social media websites and the Internet in recent years. In fact, it does not show what it claims. In reality any extra light produced during Diwali night is so subtle that it is likely imperceptible when observed from space.

New(u)Clear Weapons

New(u)Clear Weapons

All of us heard of the destruction occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki due to Atomic bomb. The terrific was ever occurred in the world is the Second World War. This was an era for destruction, construction, invention and discovery. The construction of new weapons, the weapons which led to wipe out few cities from the world map, the invention of new things took place and discovery of new metals which shaped the human future.

There is always a fear about technology. The justified fear over technology is due to the classification of “born secret” that refers to the fact that under a certain reading law, information, design, functioning of nuclear weapons has been stolen. It’s also a fact that the finest details of the early nuclear weapons is still unknown to public. To be clear we just classify them into 2 types the old nukes and the new ones.

11

The typical old nuclear weapons, so called nukes, which are still in use all over the world are called Fission Bombs or simply referred as Atomic weapons. Scientists load these bombs with “Super critical mass” which is usually Uranium, which triggers the fission reactions. These are self-sustaining chain reactions. These nukes create big explosions which in a blink of second wipe out everything. These explosions has adverse effects to the future generations and also on the bio diversity. These explosions releases the radioactive material over a wide radius. This comes from the bomb itself, if detonated on surface and not in air they disperse huge amount of energy forming a mushroom cloud.

The other type of nuclear weapon is Hydrogen Bomb, is a thermonuclear weapon. The primary destructive material used in Hydrogen bomb is not uranium or plutonium or thorium, but heavy isotopes of the most abundant material of universe. Rather than breaking the atoms apart thermonuclear weapons use the nuclear fusion process to outward the energy.

There are also “Salted Bombs”, which encases the nuclear material in a metal called Gold. It’s a neutron blasted into much more radioactive isotope. It produces a huge amount of radioactive material upon detonation. It was named from the phrase “Salt from the earth” and luckily no salted bombs have been tested so far.

The other type are “Dirty Bombs”, the ones used by terrorists. The real threat comes when terrorists start using the nuclear weapons. Rather than using the actual nuclear weapons they strap the regular explosive device to the radioactive material and blow it up. This cannot trigger a nuclear reaction but it spreads the radioactive material to contaminate large areas. The loss will not be major but results in health problems which lasts for decades.

Rich Vedic Period of India

vedic

Indian history is full of richness and colors. It have survived many battles and empires. The Vedic period carved today’s foundation. It laid down the main sets of rules we follow today. This period was ruled by Aryans. The vedic period is divided into two parts- Early Vedic Period and Later Vedic Period.

Rig vedic period is dated back from 1500BC -1000BC. The Aryans were the first to came from central Asia to Sapta Sindhawa Region or Land of 7 rivers (or around Punjab) during this time.

The tribe was known as Jan and the king was Rajan. The villages were headed by Gramini. The military element was very strong in government. Women enjoyed freedom and respect. People worshipped mainly  Indra (god of rain) and Soma ( god of plants). No idols or temples were present for worship. Cows and gold coins were the main units of exchange. The Rig Veda was written during this time. There was no revenue system, only voluntary tribute, and booty won in battles funded the government. Their main occupation was cattle rearing and agriculture secondary. The staple crop was barley.

Later Vedic Period was dated around 1000BC -500BC. The Aryans in this time expanded over the Ganga and Yamuna plains. King became more powerful and strengthened his position by rituals like Ashwamedha and Vajapeya Vajnas. The society was divided into varnas ststem namely – Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. The political and social position of women deteriorated. The Gotra system was introduced for first time. Agriculture became the main livelihood and other occupation like ironsmith, coppersmith, jewel workers and weavers also emerged. Now, Prajapati, Rudra and Vishnu became main deities. Idols were started to worshipped in this time. Sacrifices of animals also became important in vedic period. The other Vedas – Samaveda, Yajurveda and Arthavedha were written. The famous sacred Hindu epics Ramayana by Valmiki and Mahabharata by Vyasa was written in this time.

Indeed India noticed many changes in this period both positive and negative. The rich culture we proudly call today was moulded thousands of years back. The society we live in saw many changes and adapted accordingly. So be proud to be call an Indian.

Virus a mysterious story

0
VIRUS

You must be thinking, why I have taken viruses as “mysterious story”?. Medical science has many stories of success, but when it comes to viruses why it gets failed? Answer is hidden in their extraordinary behavior and life-cycle they exhibit. Viruses are so complex that it is even difficult to say, whether they are living or non-living. Many of the viral diseases are not permanently curable and the reason is again behind the mysterious story of their behavior.
Pasteur gave the name viruses that means venom or poisonous fluid. I am sure, we all have suffered from the ‘common cold‘. Even by this ‘common cold’ we can associate how much ill effects any viruses can cause. Viruses are not even assigned to any classification group as they are not true ‘living’. Viruses, basically do not have a cellular structure. Viruses are inert and have crystalline structure, consisting largely of proteins. This is all they show when they are outside the host cell. But when they enter a living cell there comes a mysterious story of viruses. Non-living behavior gets transformed. They take over the machinery of the host cell to replicate themselves leading to the killing of the host cell.
If you are comparing the size of human cell with any virus, virus have too much small structure. They even pass through the bacteria-proof filters.  A virus is basically a nucleoprotein, in which genetic material is deadly for the host. Genetic material could be either DNA or RNA, both are never present in same virus. Virus that infect plants are mostly single stranded RNA and which infects animals could be single or double stranded RNA or double stranded DNA. Their crystalline structure largely consists of proteins. The protein coat protects the genetic material. Capsomeres are the small subunits of protein coat. Those viruses which do not contain this protein coat are called viroids, they just have free genetic material.
Virus functioning is based on the host genome. They incorporate their genetic material into the host genome. The infected host cell is now directed to produce new viral copies. New viruses produced in turn infect other healthy cells of the host. This is basic mechanism, how any virus causes infection in the host cell.
Virus cause number of diseases such as smallpox, common cold, chickenpox, influenza, polio, rabies, AIDS, Ebola. Even some types of cancer are linked to viruses. Antibiotics are useless against many of the diseases and antiviral drugs are effective against for few viral diseases only. It is very difficult to kill any virus. This is the reason “story of viruses is mysterious” and there is no proper treatment for many of the viral diseases to the medical science.

Life at North Pole

North Pole and south poles are the most extreme cold places on earth. Earth spins on an imaginary axis which is joined by North Pole and South Pole. The Arctic is located at the top of the axis and the Antarctica is located at the bottom of the axis.

Arctic Ocean is main part of North Pole. The water under the arctic heats the entire are and makes it warmer. The air and temperature is generally warmer at North Pole when compared to South Pole. Arctic is more habitable for living beings. The low temperatures at South Pole makes life impossible for plants and animals. Arctic has more animals that Antarctica. Polar bears are mostly found in Arctic of North Pole.

Most part of Arctic is covered up with Snow ice and ocean but a very little part of land is also available which makes the life possible for Flora and Fauna. It includes the most northern parts of Canada, Alaska, Russia, Scandinavia and Greenland. North Pole has sunrise for every 6 months. Sun goes down around September 21 and will raise again around March 21.

untitled12

Due to such low temperatures there will be very less habitat. These places are dense snow, ice bergs. There will be snow storms and blizzards. These places are mostly used for scientific research. People have myth that no live exists at such cold temperatures, but life do exists at these places. These days people live in both Arctic and in Antarctica they live in research stations. The people living in Arctic are called Inuit, best called as “Eskimos”. Eskimos hunt walruses and depend on their meat for their living. Reindeer is used for transportation.

Not only human beings but few animals are also present in these areas. Beluga whales, which are often referred as White Whales survive by finding holes in the ice, come to surface and breathe. This is being am amazing life survival by Beluga whales because almost 96% is covered by Ice. Narwhals are considered Unicorns of the ocean are mostly found in Russian areas of Arctic Ocean. Sea otter which lives its entire life in water is also found in Arctic Ocean. Snowy Owl, Arctic Fox, Snow shoe usually called as Rabbit, Muskox and Puffins are some Fauna found in Arctic Ocean.
