Soybean is a tasty and healthy ingredient. Soybean chunks find use in numerous dishes. You can prepare yummy dishes of soybean chunks at your home. These dishes do not need too many ingredients. Soya Keema
This is a lip-smacking dish of soybean chunks sauteed in herbs and spices. You can eat this with rice, chapati, puri or paratha.
Ingredients –
- Soya chunks – 2 cups
- Water – As needed
- Salt – According to taste
- Oil – 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon – Few pieces
- Cloves – Few
- Cardamom – Few pods
- Chili – 1
- Garlic – Few cloves
- Onion – 1
- Ginger – Small piece
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Chili powder – Half teaspoon
- Coriander powder – Half teaspoon
- Cumin powder – Half teaspoon
- Garam masala – Half teaspoon
- Tomato – 2
- Curd – Half cup
- Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
Method –
- Heat a pan and boil water in it. Add soya chunks to it and let them soak for at least half an hour. This causes the soya chunks to swell in size.
- Chop onion, garlic, chili and tomato finely. Put tomatoes in a grinder and make pulp from it. After the soya chunks swell, squeeze water from them.
- Put all the soya chunks in a grinder and blend them. They appear like bread crumbs in this process.
- Heat a pan and put oil to it. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom to it. Let them splutter.
- Then put onion, chili, garlic and ginger to it. Fry very well till the raw smell disappears.
- Add salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and garam masala to it. Mix well till there is an aroma from the spices.
- Put the tomato pulp to it and mix properly. Cook till oil starts separating from the masala paste. Then add curd and stir well.
- Put the blended soya chunks and saute for some time. Then add little water and cover the pan. Simmer for few minutes.
- Remove cover and mix well. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot.

Soya Pulao
This is a delicious dish made from rice, soybean chunks, herbs and spices. You can eat this with raita, curd, fry or curry.
Ingredients –
- Soya chunks – 1 cup
- Basmati rice – 1 cup
- Water – 2 cups for pulao and as needed for soaking soya chunks
- Salt – According to taste
- Bay leaf – 1 or 2
- Cinnamon – Few pieces
- Cloves – Few
- Cardamom – Few pods
- Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Chili – 1
- Ginger – Small piece
- Garlic – Few cloves
- Onion – 1
- Oil – 3 tablespoons
- Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
- Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Chili powder – Half teaspoon
- Coriander powder – Half teaspoon
Method –
- Heat a pan and boil water in it. Add soya chunks to it and let them soak for at least half an hour. This causes the soya chunks to swell in size.

- Heat a pressure cooker and add oil, cumin seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. Let them crackle.
- Then add chilli, ginger, garlic and onion to it. Fry till the raw smell disappears.
- Put soya chunks to it. Then add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder. Mix very well.
- Add basmati rice, 2 cups water, coriander leaves and lemon juice to it. Stir it well. Cover and pressure cook the pulao on a medium to high flame for 1 or 2 whistles.
- Open the lid when the pressure comes down. Serve it hot.

- Put soya chunks and mix very well. Cook till the soya chunks get coated with spices. Make sure that all ingredients have mixed properly.
- Add lemon juice and coriander leaves to it and mix. Serve it hot.
Soya Chunks Curry
This is an appetizing dish of fried soybean chunks sauteed in a spicy gravy. You can eat this with rice, chapati, puri or paratha.
Ingredients –
- Soya chunks – 3 cups
- Water – As needed
- Salt – According to taste
- Oil – 4 tablespoons
- Onion – 2
- Garlic – Few cloves
- Ginger – Small piece
- Tomato – 2
- Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
- Bay leaf – 1 or 2
- Cinnamon – Few pieces
- Chili – 1
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Chili powder – Half teaspoon
- Coriander powder – Half teaspoon
- Garam masala – Half teaspoon
- Curd – Half cup
- Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
- Kasuri methi – 1 teaspoon
Method –
- Heat a pan and boil water in it. Add soya chunks to it and let them soak for at least half an hour. This causes the soya chunks to swell in size.
- Chop the chilli, ginger, garlic, tomato and onion finely. After the soya chunks swell, squeeze water from them. Keep the soya chunks aside.
- Heat a pan and put 1 tablespoon oil to it. Add 1 onion, chili, ginger and garlic to it. Fry well till the raw smell disappears.
- Then add tomato to it and saute for few minutes. Cool down this mixture and transfer it to a grinder. Make a smooth paste from this mixture.
- Heat the same pan again and put 1 tablespoon oil to it. Put the soya chunks and fry them. Fry for few minutes and keep them aside.
- Heat the same pan again and put 2 tablespoons oil to it. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon and bay leaf to it. Let them splutter.
- Then put 1 onion and fry well till the raw smell disappears. Add turmeric powder and chili powder to it. Mix well.
- Put the masala paste and saute for few minutes. Cook till the colour changes. Then add salt and coriander powder to it.
- Add water, curd to it and mix very well. Mix properly so that all the ingredients combine with each other.
- Put fried soya chunks to this gravy and cover the pan. Simmer for few minutes.
- Remove cover and add garam masala, kasuri methi to it. Mix the curry very well. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot.
