Vegetable Daliya
This is a lip-smacking dish of Daliya cooked with vegetables and Moong Dal. You can eat this with curd, any raita or salad.
Ingredients –
- Daliya (Broken Wheat) – 1 cup
- Moong Dal – 1 cup
- Oil – 4 tablespoons
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 2 teaspoons
- Asafoetida (Hing) – A pinch
- Ginger – A piece
- Chili – Few
- Tomato – 2
- Peanuts – 2 tablespoons
- Green Peas – 2 tablespoons
- Carrot – 1
- Cabbage – A piece
- Salt – According to taste
- Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
- Water – 8 cups
Method –
- Chop ginger, chili, tomato, carrot and cabbage finely. Rinse and soak Moong Dal in water for some time. Heat a pressure cooker and put oil in it.
- Add cumin seeds and Asafoetida. Let them splutter. Put peanuts, ginger, chili and saute for few minutes. Add tomato and cook till it turns soft and mushy.
- Put green peas, carrot and cabbage. Saute for some time. Add salt, Turmeric powder and mix properly. Put Moong Dal and Daliya to it. Mix very well.
- Add water and stir properly so that all the ingredients get combined. Cover the lid of pressure cooker and pressure cook for 1 whistle.
- Remove cover and check whether Daliya has cooked or not. Serve it hot.
Daliya Upma
This is a yummy dish of Daliya which is ideal for breakfast. You can eat it with any chutney or ketchup.
Ingredients –
- Daliya (Broken Wheat) – 1 cup
- Oil – 3 tablespoons
- Salt – According to taste
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 1 teaspoon
- Mustard Seeds (Rai) – 1 teaspoon
- Urad Dal – 1 teaspoon
- Chili – Few
- Onion – Half
- Ginger – A piece
- Tomato – 1
- Carrot – Half
- Beans – Few
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Water – 3 cups
Method –
- Chop ginger, chili, onion, tomato, carrot and beans finely. Heat a pan and put oil in it. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Let them splutter.
- Put urad dal, ginger, chili and saute for few minutes. Add onion and fry well till the raw smell disappears. Put tomato and cook till it turns soft and mushy.
- Add carrot and beans. Saute for some time. Put salt, Turmeric powder and mix properly. Add Daliya to it and mix very well.
- Add water and stir properly so that all the ingredients get combined. Cover the pan for some time so that Daliya gets cooked.
- Remove cover and check whether Daliya has cooked or not. If it has not cooked, then cover the pan again because Daliya needs sufficient time to get cooked.
- Remove cover and mix Upma. Serve it hot.

Daliya Kheer
This is a scrumptious dessert made from Daliya. You can eat this dessert even when you are dieting.
Ingredients –
- Daliya (Broken Wheat) – 1 cup
- Water – 3 cups
- Ghee – Half cup
- Dry fruits – According to taste
- Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
- Milk – 3 cups
- Sugar – Three-fourth cup
Method –
- You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used cashews, cherries and raisins for this. I chopped cherries and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
- In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
- Heat a pressure cooker and put ghee in it. Add Daliya and saute for some time. Saute till it turns aromatic. Put water and mix properly.
- Cover the lid of pressure cooker and pressure cook for 1 whistle. Remove cover and check whether Daliya has cooked or not. Add milk and stir well.
- Stir properly so that milk gets absorbed and no lump forms. Put sugar and mix properly till it dissolves completely in the mixture.
- Add dry fruits, Cardamom powder and mix well. You do not have to pressure cook Daliya again. Daliya has to be pressure cooked only once initially so that it gets cooked.
- Mix well so that all the ingredients get combined. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.
Daliya Khichdi
This is an appetizing dish of Daliya cooked with vegetables, spices and Moong Dal. You can eat this with curd, any raita or salad.
Ingredients –
- Daliya (Broken Wheat) – 1 cup

This is a tasty dish of Daliya cooked with vegetables and spices. It has a spicy flavor. You can eat this with curd, any raita or salad.

- Carrot – 1
- Beans – Some
- Chili – Few
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera) – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Salt – According to taste
- Tomato – 2
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Garam Masala – Half teaspoon
- Ginger – A piece
- Garlic – Few cloves
- Bay leaf – 1
- Peanuts – 2 tablespoons
- Green Peas – 2 tablespoons
- Oil – 3 tablespoons
Method –
- Chop ginger, chili, garlic, onion, tomato, carrot and beans finely. Heat a pressure cooker and put oil in it. Add cumin seeds and Bay leaf. Let them splutter.

- Add carrot, peas and beans. Saute for some time. Put salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, garam masala and mix properly. Add Daliya to it and mix very well.

- Remove cover and check whether Daliya has cooked or not. Mix Pulao and serve it hot.
