Lip-smacking potato dishes to enjoy at home

Potato is a vegetable that is cooked in numerous ways. Almost everyone likes eating potato. There are some dishes of potato that we usually eat in eateries. What if you could cook them at home? You can enjoy eating lip-smacking potato dishes whenever you want. There are some potato dishes which need easily available ingredients. Follow the recipes of those dishes.

Aloo Dum

This is a delicious Indian curry of potato cooked in a gravy of herbs and spices. You can eat it with poori, chapati, paratha or rice. It tastes the best with poori.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – Some, depending on the size
  2. Water – As required for boiling potatoes and making gravy
  3. Salt – According to taste
  4. Cinnamon – A big piece
  5. Cloves – Few
  6. Cardamom – Few
  7. Onion – 1
  8. Tomato – 2
  9. Ginger – A piece
  10. Garlic – Few cloves
  11. Chili – Few
  12. Oil – 4 tablespoons
  13. Turmeric powder – 2 teaspoons
  14. Chili powder – 2 teaspoons
  15. Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 2 teaspoons
  16. Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
  17. Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  18. Curd – Half cup
  19. Kasuri Methi – 1 tablespoon
  20. Garam Masala – 1 teaspoon

Method –

  1. Boil potatoes in pressure cooker till they get cooked. Remove peels of potatoes and cut them in small pieces. Chop onion, tomato, ginger, garlic and chili.
  2. Heat a pan and put 2 tablespoons oil in it. Add potato pieces and fry well. Put salt, turmeric powder and chili powder to it. Mix properly and saute for some time.
  3. Remove fried potato pieces and keep them aside. Heat the same pan again and put 1 tablespoon oil in it. Add onion and saute for some time. Put ginger, garlic and chili.
  4. Saute for few minutes and then add tomato. Saute for some time. Then cool down this fried mixture and transfer it to a blender. Make a fine paste from it and keep it aside.
  5. Heat the same pan again and put 1 tablespoon oil in it. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and let them splutter. Put the prepared paste to it and saute for a minute.
  6. Then add salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and Garam Masala. Mix well and cook till oil separates. Put curd and mix properly.
  7. Then add water and mix well. Check the consistency of gravy and adjust the amount of water. Put Kasuri Methi and mix the gravy. Add fried potato pieces and mix well.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer for some time so that potato absorbs the flavour of gravy. Remove cover and mix for few minutes. Serve it hot.

Potato Bites

This is an appetizing snack of potato. You can eat it with any chutney or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – Few, depending on the size
  2. Water – As required for boiling potatoes and making batter
  3. Salt – According to taste
  4. Cornflour – 4 tablespoons
  5. Garlic – Some cloves
  6. Chili – Few
  7. Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
  8. Chili powder – 2 teaspoons
  9. Maida (Refined flour or Plain flour) – Half cup
  10. Oil – As needed for frying

Method –

  1. Boil potatoes in pressure cooker till they get cooked. Remove peels of potatoes and mash them. Chop garlic and chili finely.
  2. Take a large mixing bowl and put mashed potato, 2 tablespoons Cornflour, garlic, chili, salt, half teaspoon pepper powder, 1 teaspoon chili powder in it.
  3. Mix very well and form a soft dough from it. Make sure that all the ingredients have combined with each other. Grease your palms with oil.
  4. From the prepared dough, make small balls and keep them aside. Take another mixing bowl and put 2 tablespoons Cornflour, Maida, salt, half teaspoon pepper powder, 1 teaspoon chili powder, water in it.
  5. Check the consistency of batter. It should neither be thick nor thin. Put water accordingly. Dip all the small balls in this batter and coat them properly with batter.
  6. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil in it. Put the batter coated balls in pan in the form of batches. Deep fry them till they turn crisp and dark. Remove them from pan.
  7. Fry the remaining batter coated balls in this way. Serve the potato bites hot.

Potato Fingers

This is a tasty snack of potato. You can eat it with any chutney or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – Few, depending on the size
  2. Semolina (Rava or Suji) – 1 cup
  3. Curd – Half cup
  4. Ginger – A piece
  5. Chili – Few
  6. Salt – According to taste
  7. Cornflour – Half cup
  8. Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
  9. Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  10. Chaat Masala – 1 teaspoon
  11. Oil – As needed for frying

Method –

  1. Boil potatoes in pressure cooker till they get cooked. Remove peels of potatoes and mash them. Chop ginger and chili finely.
  2. Take a large mixing bowl and put semolina, curd in it. Let semolina soak for some time. Then add mashed potato, chili, ginger, salt, Chaat Masala, pepper powder and cumin powder to it.
  3. Mix very well and form a dough from it. Make sure that all the ingredients have combined with each other. Grease your palms with oil.
  4. From the prepared dough, make cylindrical shapes and keep them aside. Do not make too long cylindrical shapes as they may break while frying.
  5. Make them in such a way that they do not break while frying. Take a plate and put Cornflour in it. Roll the cylindrical shapes in Cornflour for making them crisp.
  6. They should absorb Cornflour. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil in it. Add potato fingers in batches to the pan. Deep fry them till they turn crisp and dark.
  7. Remove them from pan. Fry the remaining potato fingers in this way. Serve them hot.

Aloo Suji Chilla

This is a delectable dish of potato and Semolina. It is an option for any meal of the day. You can eat it with any chutney or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – Few, depending on the size
  2. Semolina (Rava or Suji) – 1 cup
  3. Ginger – A piece
  4. Chili – Few
  5. Salt – According to taste
  6. Onion – 1
  7. Tomato – 1
  8. Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
  9. Carom seeds (Ajwain) – 2 teaspoons
  10. Chaat Masala – 1 teaspoon
  11. Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
  12. Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1 teaspoon
  13. Oil – As needed for cooking

Method –

  1. Grate potatoes and wash it so that the starch content gets removed. Chop onion, tomato, ginger and chili finely.
  2. Take a large mixing bowl and put grated potatoes, chopped onion, tomato, ginger and chili. Add coriander leaves, salt, chaat masala, carom seeds, cumin seeds and chili powder to it.
  3. Mix very well. Then add semolina and mix properly. Make the batter and keep it aside for some time. Check the consistency of batter, it should be thick.
  4. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil in it. Take batter with the help of a big spoon and put it in the pan. Add more oil to it if required. Flip it so that both the sides get cooked.
  5. Check whether both sides have cooked uniformly. Then remove from pan. Cook the remaining batter in this day. Serve them hot.
