We all know that winter invites numerous unavoidable health issues. Cough and cold are some common diseases that we face during this chilly weather. However, the other common health ailment that is very frequent in us is Tonsillitis, or we can say Tonsils. It is caused due to viral or even bacterial infection leading to swelling or inflammation of the tonsils. Although it’s a very ordinary problem that we encounter in our daily lives at the same it can be irritating.

The pandemic has also made this condition worst. Earlier the tonsils were a normal infection, but now people panic, the moment they have tonsils. The corona has made the problem even dangerous. So it’s quite requisite to avoid this problem. One must need proper precautions before falling into the pray of tonsils. But despite all the measures, there are chances you get sick through tonsils. So, instead of turning to the doctors frequently, you can try some easy home remedies. Having said that, below are ten easy home remedies to cure Tonsils

1. Water Gargle

One of the very common home remedies for treating tonsil is gargling. It works wonders when you gargle with warm water with a pinch of salt in it. Gargling provides relief to the swollen area of the tonsil and cures the infection. All you have to do is just add a half teaspoon of salt in warm water, keep it in mouth and then spit. You can repeat the procedure according to your need.

Apple cider vinegar can also be added to the warm water. As vinegar is acidic, hence it can kill bacteria. It has anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties which can surely control the infection further. Don’t take the concentrated apple cider vinegar, always add with warm water. 

2. Basil

It is rightly said, we have a small clinic at our kitchen. These herbal ingredients like Basil (Tulsi), Cinnamon (Daalchini) and Turmeric (Haldi) are very effective in treating tonsils. Having anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, they are good for our body as well. These natural medicines have many health benefits, so one can easily rely on this. Soak these in warm water and drink as per your need. Also, you can add these in your daily tea which will also build your immunity. 

Basil has an anti-inflammatory and anti-viral property that can heal the inflammation. Add black pepper, lemon and honey along with tulsi in a tea for relief in pain and soothing throat. You can even add tusli in warm water and drink. So, along with religious significance, it also comes up with medical qualities. Apart from treating tonsils, it has various other uses also. It is a common ingredient used in many Indian households.

The cinnamon is one of the delicious spices having a wonderful fragrance. The anti- microbial quality of cinnamon can benefit in tonsil by controlling swelling. The cinnamon restrains the growth of bacteria and microorganisms, hence helps to reduce pain and further infection. Along with honey, cinnamon can be added in warm water to drink. A tasty herbal tea with cinnamon in it can also be consumed. 

4. Turmeric

One spice many medicinal purposes! It is the panacea and has a range of qualities that can cure several diseases. Turmeric has an antioxidant property which can treat many diseases, heal wound and infections. Just chop turmeric and add it in a tea. Not only it serves medicinal properties but at the same time enhances the taste of the tea. You can also add turmeric in warm milk and drink before going to sleep. This helps build up immunity as well.

5. Plenty of Warm Liquid

By drinking warm liquid it will give relief to your infected area. Make sure you drink warm beverages like soup, tea and even water that relieve your sore throat. Adding ginger and honey in your tea also benefits your tonsils. Warm beverages smooth your throat area which makes easy to swallow foods.

Along with this, there are plenty of teas like clove tea, green tea and cinnamon tea that can give relief in tonsils. 

6. Eating Cold Foods

Ice-creams, cold yoghurt, chilled drinks like smoothies are some common cold eatables that you can go for. These are mainly for the children, who unlike us will not prefer to do gargling or take ginger tea.

Chop few cloves of garlic and suck on it. You can also add honey in it to make it taste good. Having antibacterial properties it works great for treating tonsils.

The tonsils cause dryness in your throat area resulting in more and more coughing. Therefore to avoid such condition one must keep his throat wet. For this, taking steam can work wonders! Try to stay in humid temperature away from the harsh dry environment. People also use a humidifier for relief. Again, that is not necessary for everyone. Just taking steam as per your convenience has a positive result.

You can even add Vicks if your tonsils is accompanied by a cold. 

10. Honey

This is very effective because of its antibacterial properties. Hence, it can heal infections in the throat area. This can be either directly taken in a spoon or with some other eatables. You can also drink warm water with honey and lemon juice in it. It smoothens your tonsil!

So these are some of the easiest home remedies to keep tonsils problem at bay. Tonsil is very common and can also be treated naturally without any heavy procedures. However, if the problem persists for more days than you must consult a doctor. Sometimes tonsil is also accompanied by heavy pain, fever, fatigue and difficulty in swallowing. In that case, visiting a doctor is recommended but that is again can be treated with some generic medicines.
