Yummy Indian snack recipes to try out

We all like to eat some tasty snacks in the evening. There are some snacks that we prefer to eat always. What if you could make those tasty snacks at home? You will not have to go out of your home to eat delicious snacks. There are some tempting snacks that can be made at home. The recipes do not need much time for cooking and the ingredients are easily available.

Onion Fritters

Onion fritters is a perfect snack for a rainy evening. It is very tasty. You can eat this with any chutney or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Onion – 2
  2. Besan (Chickpea flour or Gram flour) – Half cup
  3. Salt – Half teaspoon
  4. Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
  5. Chilli powder – Half teaspoon
  6. Chilli – 1
  7. Baking Soda – A pinch
  8. Water – As required for making the batter
  9. Oil – As required for frying

Method –

  1. Slice the onions thinly and chop the chillies finely.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, put onion, chili, besan, salt, baking soda, turmeric powder, and chilli powder and mix them. Add water carefully as required for making the batter.
  3. The batter should not be too thick or too thin. Onions release little water. So, ensure that the batter is medium-thick. Mix it very well.
  4. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil for frying. Add a spoonful of the batter to hot oil.
  5. Flip the fritters in oil and fry till they get cooked and turn brown. Deep fry so that they become crisp.
  6. Remove the fritters and serve them hot.

Aloo Tikki

Aloo Tikki or Potato Patties is a delicious snack. It is a starter in parties. You can eat this with any chutney or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – 3
  2. Garlic – Few cloves
  3. Chilli – 1
  4. Salt – Half teaspoon
  5. Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
  6. Chilli powder – Half teaspoon
  7. Cumin powder – Half teaspoon
  8. Chaat Masala – Half teaspoon
  9. Corn Flour – 2 tablespoons
  10. Oil – As required for frying

Method –

  1. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker. Usually, potatoes boil in 2 whistles but check whether they are soft or not. Chop garlic and chilli finely.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, put the boiled potatoes and mash them. Then add garlic, chilli, salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin powder, chaat masala and corn flour.
  3. Mix very well and form a soft dough. Do not add water while mixing as boiled potato releases water. Check the binding of the dough.
  4. Grease your hands with oil and form flat balls from the dough. They must be round in shape and have uniform thickness.
  5. Heat a pan and put oil to it. Put Tikkis on the pan in batches and roast in low flame. Cook till the tikkis turn brown. Flip over and cook both sides.
  6. Check whether the tikkis have cooked or not. Serve them hot.

French Fries

This is an all-time favourite snack of many people. We love eating this delicious snack. You can eat this with any dip or ketchup.

Ingredients –

  1. Potato – 2 large size
  2. Oil – As required for frying
  3. Salt – According to taste
  4. Water – As needed for rinsing

Method –

  1. You can prepare this from potatoes of any size. But French fries look good when made from large sized potatoes.
  2. Wash the potatoes and peel them. Cut the potatoes in long slices having uniform thickness. Try to cut them in sticks.
  3. Take a big bowl filled with water and put all the potato slices to it. Soak them well so that the starch from the potatoes gets removed.
  4. Keep the bowl in refrigerator for half an hour. Then remove it and drain the water.
  5. Place all the potato slices on a clean cotton napkin. Pat and dry them. Ensure that they are completely dry before frying them.
  6. Heat a pan and put oil to it. Put the potato slices in batches to the pan and fry them. You have to fry them for the first time.
  7. Shallow fry all the potato slices and remove them to a plate. Let them cool for some time.
  8. Heat the same pan again. This time you have to fry the potato slices for the second time. Deep fry all the potato slices till they become crisp.
  9. Remove them to a plate. In a mixing bowl, put the French fries and add salt. Mix them well. You can add any masala or herb powder to the French fries.
  10. Serve the French fries hot.

White Peas Chaat

This is a tasty and tangy snack made from white peas. This snack dish will refresh you. You can add anything else to this recipe if you want.

Ingredients –

  1. Dried White peas – 1 cup
  2. Onion – 1
  3. Tomato – 1
  4. Chilli – 1 or 2
  5. Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
  6. Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
  7. Salt – Half teaspoon
  8. Chaat Masala – 1 teaspoon
  9. Chilli Powder – 1 teaspoon
  10. Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  11. Mixture – According to taste

Method –

  1. Soak the white peas on the previous day of making Chaat. On the next day, discard water.
  2. In a pressure cooker, put the white peas and add sufficient water to it. Pressure cook for few whistles till they get cooked. Drain the cooked white peas and keep aside.
  3. Chop the onion, tomato, chilli and coriander leaves finely. You can use any mixture that you have.
  4. In a large bowl, put white peas, onion, tomato, chilli, salt, chaat masala, chilli powder and cumin powder. Mix them very well.
  5. Then add lemon juice and coriander leaves to it. Mix it well. Do not put mixture to the bowl.
  6. While serving white peas chaat on a plate, garnish it with mixture.

Poha Cutlet

This is a tasty and healthy snack. It is a perfect balanced snack for people of all ages. You can eat this with any chutney or ketchup.

  1. Thin Poha (Flattened rice or Beaten rice) – 1 cup
  2. Potato – 2
  3. Onion – Half
  4. Chilli – 2
  5. Coriander leaves – 1 tablespoon
  6. Chilli powder – Half teaspoon
  7. Chaat Masala – Half teaspoon
  8. Salt – Half teaspoon
  9. Peanuts – 2 tablespoons
  10. Besan (Chickpea flour or Gram flour) – 3 tablespoons
  11. Oil – As required for frying

Method –

  1. Wash the Poha with water. Then drain off the water from it. Keep it aside for some time.
  2. Boil the potatoes in a pressure cooker and make sure that they are soft. Chop the onion and chilli finely.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, put poha, potato, onion, chilli, coriander leaves, chilli powder, chaat masala and salt. Mash the potato and mix well.
  4. Then add peanuts and besan to it. Mix everything very well. Do not put water to it as potato secretes water.
  5. Make a soft dough from it. Grease your hands with oil and form flat balls from the dough. They must be round in shape and have uniform thickness.
  6. Heat a pan and put oil to it. Put them on the pan in batches and roast in low flame. Cook till the cutlets turn brown. Flip over and cook both sides.
  7. Check whether the cutlets have cooked or not. Serve them hot.

Capsicum Fritters

This is a good fried snack. You can eat this with any chutney or ketchup.

The recipe of capsicum fritters is same as that of onion fritters. The only difference is in the main ingredient. You have to use capsicum instead of onion. Cut the capsicum into long pieces. The remaining 8 ingredients remain same. Follow the same method as that of onion fritters.
