Mechanical Engineering: Career Prospects, Salary, and Job Growth

The study of motion, energy, and force is mechanical engineering. A mechanical engineer tries to control these factors by using the material, human and economic resources to generate feasible solutions that help meet the necessities and requirements of society. A mechanical engineer works on the design and development of machines. Constructing a cost-effective machine with proper and relevant adjustments to the device is the sole objective of a mechanical engineer. They construct machines keeping in mind the design, testing, and improvement of the technical representation drawn for construction.

The automobile manufacturers, construction firms, and other manufacturing enterprises hire mechanical engineers. A broad range of associated job profiles for mechanical engineers incorporates mechanization, aerospace engineers, control, instrumentation professional, and maintenance expert. To become a mechanical engineer, an understanding of Physics, Applied Engineering and Mathematics is a necessity. Good knowledge of these topics and essential skills together makes a mechanical engineer.

Mechanical engineering is an engineering study involving the principles of materials science for the construction, and sustenance of mechanical devices. Mechanical Engineering deals with the generation and regulation of mechanical power for the production, and maintenance of machines and devices. It is one of the best and most extensive engineering disciplines.

Foundations in this subject include maths, physics, thermodynamics and heat transfer, materials science, gears and systems, fluid mechanics, structural analysis. Mechanical engineering finds importance in all areas of technology. It is one of the fundamental branches of engineering which is always in need even in the future.

COURSES AND ELIGIBILITY FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Mechanical engineering programs normally involve courses in maths and life and material sciences and engineering and design. Mechanical engineering technology courses focus less on theory and more on the practice of engineering principles. They may feature internships and co-ops to equip students for work in the field.
Some schools offer 5-year programs that let students get both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Some 5-year or even 6-year collaborative plans connect classroom learning with practical work, allowing students to get relevant experience and make money to fund part of their learning.

For a Diploma course in mechanical engineering, a minimum of 50% marks are required to apply. Applicants also have to pass the diploma course entrance exam of the state or university where they want admissions. For the Undergraduate Programmes, B.Tech or BE Mechanical Engineering candidates will have to obtain at least 60% marks in class 12 board exams. Applicants must have physics mathematics and chemistry as mandatory subjects in the class 12 curriculum.

Admissions are done based on engineering entrance examination scores accepted by the respective institutes or universities. For the Postgraduate programs, Candidates who have secured a minimum of 50% in their BE or B.Tech Mechanical Engineering courses can apply for M.Tech or ME programs. Selection is done based on GATE scores and Personal Interviews administered by respective institutes. For Doctoral programs, Applicants must have a minimum of 60% marks in B.Tech or BE along with 60% marks in M.Tech or ME.

Engineering Product Tester – A person who operates the position of Engineering Product Tester keeps constant control on all the machines and tools used in manufacturing. This job is constantly in demand and after becoming a mechanical engineer, anyone with experience can serve this position.

Project Engineer – A Project Engineer is a very accountable job profile and the foremost thing required here is an undeniable sense of innovation. The main work is to direct the project and impeccably ensure its advancement. The professionals working in this position also need to keep a constant check on the development of the project as well as look into the hidden problems.

Manufacturing Engineer – Mechanical Engineers serving on this profile must look for ways to enhance the overall method of production for efficient usage of the sources. Specifically, the person in this position examines the status and safety of the production unit.

Design Engineer – A Mechanical Engineering can also take up the role of a design engineer. The only thing they need to do is to opt for two courses on designing, as this profession is extensively about creating the shapes and dimensions of machines. Anyone with a sense of creativity can look forth to this job after finishing their Mechanical Engineering program.

Development Engineer – The role of a development engineer is to produce a product design that meets the necessary goals of the customer or the company working for. Moreover, the specialists also look after the effective procedures of lead testing as well as describing the requirements for manufacturing.

CURRENT MARKET SCENARIO

Though the average yearly salary of mechanical engineers is less than Rs.3.5 lakhs, an understanding of robotics and electrical operations will help you to get a better pay package. Though presently the salary offer is lesser than computer science, it is predicted to rise again. As per the global consultancy company Deloitte survey, India is anticipated to open more new opportunities for mechanical engineers in India shortly. Some experiences can add significance to this benefit package and can make a hiring company provide you with a better salary package, as per their requirement.

The job of mechanical engineers is predicted to grow 4% over the next ten years, as fast as the average for all professions. Mechanical engineers can operate in many fields and on different types of projects. Consequently, their growth speed will vary by the industries that hire them. Mechanical engineers are predicted to encounter an average increase in jobs as firms proceed to contract work from these companies. Mechanical engineers will also continue to be required in various construction industries, particularly in automotive production. These engineers will play key functions in developing the scope and production of hybrid and electric automobiles. Nevertheless, employment drops in some production industries will alter the overall job growth of mechanical engineers.

Possibilities for them overall are foreseen to be good. They will be most suitable for those with knowledge of the most advanced software tools, especially for computational layout and simulation. Mechanical engineering students who can formulate practical simulations before progressing to the plan, model, and test stages might find themselves in high need by companies as these skills will allow companies to overcome product development cycles.
