Walt Disney Animation’s highly anticipated musical film “Wish” has added another big name to its cast – Chris Pine. The “Star Trek” star will lend his voice to the character of King Magnifico, the powerful ruler of the magical kingdom of Rosas.
Written by Jennifer Lee and directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, “Wish” revolves around the origin story of the wishing star that has been wished upon by many beloved Disney characters. The story follows Asha, an optimistic and sharp-witted character who turns to the sky and makes a wish in a moment of need. Her wish is answered by a little ball of energy named Star, and together they embark on a journey to save Asha’s community.
Pine’s casting as King Magnifico has been highly praised by Lee, who described him as the perfect choice to bring all the charm, cleverness and charisma to the magnanimous character. Pine’s experience in both live-action and animated films, including “Wonder Woman” and “Into the Woods,” makes him a perfect fit for the role.
Alongside Pine, the cast includes Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and Alan Tudyk. The film features original songs by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, as well as a score by composer Dave Metzger.
Fans of Disney and Chris Pine alike can look forward to the release of “Wish” exclusively in theaters on November 22, where they’ll get to hear Pine’s dulcet tones bring King Magnifico to life in this magical and heartwarming tale.
