Amritsar which literally means ‘the pool of the Nectar of Immortality’, is a city situated in Punjab which is known for the religious affairs of Sikhism. Amritsar was historically also known as Ramdaspur. It is situated in the north-western part of India. It originated from a village called Tung. Jallianwala Bagh

  • It is located near the famous Golden Temple of Amritsar. Jallianwala Bagh is a public garden that houses a memorial which commemorates the massacre of peaceful celebrators by the British forces. It was indeed a sad and brutal massacre and many celebrators lost their lives amidst the joyous waves of festivities.
  • The structures are built in such a manner that shouts out the atrocities done by the British forces on innocent people. Wall and well are some of the examples. The entire wall is covered by bullet marks; they still have those bullet marks. And the well remembers the suicide attempts of 100s of people who jumped in the well in order to save their lives.

Gurudwara Mata Kaulan

  • It is located on the west side of the golden temple. Hence it is easily accessible to reach via cab.
  • The memorial was named after Bibi Kaulan, a holy lady who was raised as a Muslim but adopted Hinduism later after becoming a faithful disciple of Guru Har Gobind. Bibi Kaulan’s service to the Gurudwara and her devotion towards Gods is something that is often praised midway, during the prayers.
