Have you ever had to leave your dearest pair of jeans at home while packing for a trip because there’s no more space in your suitcase? Well, you might not have realized it then, but chances are that there had been space for at least three of those jeans in your suitcase.
Surprised?
Read on to find out how you could have packed differently to save that extra space and utilize your luggage space to the maximum. Also, see how you can manage your accessories and toiletries in a hassle-free manner, make cheaper bookings and a few more travel hacks that might come in handy for your next trip!
1. UTILIZE YOUR SHOES
Instead of packing your socks separately, roll the pair of socks and fit them in your shoes. Wrap your shoe in a small plastic or cloth bag and place it at the bottom of your suitcase. If the shoes are tightly stuffed, they will not only save space but also prevent the formation of wrinkles or creases due to the weight of the luggage on the shoe (especially if you’re carrying leather ones!).
2. ROLL YOUR CLOTHES
Rolling your clothes instead of folding them saves space and also prevents wrinkles. Just lay out the clothing item and start rolling it into a tight cylindrical shape. Pack these rolls in your suitcase in a way that they don’t unwind while traveling and you’re good to go!
3. The military-style roll
Another way to roll your clothes is the military style roll. This technique works best for t-shirts. First, fold both the sleeves inward and the bottom behind. Next, fold each side inward, overlapping each other to form a rectangle. Roll this rectangle from top to bottom and use the two flaps to tuck it in like a burrito and you’re done!
4. PILL CONTAINERS FOR JEWELLERY
Jewelry items like rings, small lockets, earrings, cuff links etc. are often lost in our luggage and if not, are tangled together in a jewelry box/pouch that we use to store them. Pill containers are a great way to store these items so that they are handy and tangle-free.
5. CHARGE ON TV
Even if you have a proper checklist, it’s easy to forget something or the other while packing for a trip. If it is your phone charger that you’ve forgot, then there’s nothing to worry about because most hotel rooms come with television sets that have USB ports where you can connect your phone using a data cable.
6. INVEST IN PACKING CUBES
Packing cubes can be used to keep everything organized so that when you reach your destination, you are aware of where everything is. Roll or fold similar kind of clothing as per your preference and fit them in these cubes which can be placed easily in your luggage.
7. ZIPPER BAGS FOR BULKY CLOTHES
If you’re carrying bulky items of clothing that you don’t mind getting creased, then chuck them into these space saver bags. Roll them to squeeze the air out and seal the bag with the zipper on the top. This method can eliminate up to 80% of the previous volume.
8. BINDER CLIP FOR RAZORS
A razor might cause accidental cuts or damage other items stored with it. A binder clip can be used to cover the blade of the razor so that such accidents can be prevented.
9. TIC TAC CONTAINERS FOR BOBBY PINS
If you’re a girl, then you would definitely be able to relate to the struggle of losing a bunch of bobby pins every day. Where do these little things disappear? Tic tac containers are a great way to store bobby pins in one place as they are about the same height and are easy to use without spilling them over.
