Ride the Toboggan Chute

Feed your need for speed as you ride a sled down the snow-covered course and onto the icy Mirror Lake. Depending on the weather, toboggans can travel over 1,000 feet. Two to four riders are only allowed to ride the toboggan, and facilitators send one sled down at a time for safety purposes.

Skating on Mirror Lake

Mirror Lake operates a 2-mile skating course that loops around the lake, featuring spectacular views near Lake Placid cabin rentals.

Olympic Ice Skating

Teach your kids to embrace their inner Kristi Yamaguchi while spinning at the Olympic Oval. Flip and triple axel like the Olympians as you navigate the crystal surface. There are skate rentals available for everyone.

Hiking in High Falls Gorge

Watching the ice-covered waterfalls at the High Falls Gorge is breathtaking. Everyone is provided with protective ice cleats so that they do not slip and fall. Equipment is also available for rent if you choose a one-mile snowshoe trail.

Educational signs around the 30-minute self-guided route will present the history of the region.

Winter Sports at Whiteface Mountain

Whiteface Mountain is one of the tallest vertical drops in the world. This is where Kid’s Kampus is located, which offers visitors to have their own lifts, a hiking plan, a car park, and a cabin. There is also a childcare facility for non-skiing children.

Dog Sledding

Mirror Lake is not very deep, so it typically remains frozen during most of the season. Once the ice is stable for dog sleds, the mushers organize lifts for $10 an individual.

Hike around Adirondack Park

The ice-covered Adirondack Park is a winter recreation playground of the locals. Lake Placid has a bunch of good trail choices, including the Jackrabbit Trail, which has around 35 miles of pleasant ski trails. The area of Mirror Lake provides about two miles of flat ground for a winter walk.

Go bobsledding

Go bobsledding on the actual Olympic course at the Olympic Sports Complex. Experts drive the sleds at speeds that are guaranteed to give you an adrenaline rush.

Visit the Wild Center

If the highlands are calling for you, do not hesitate. Make the most of Lake Placid with your kids on your next winter family vacation!
