7 PLACES TO STARGAZE IN THE HIMALAYAS

We all want to travel to Himalayas and catch up with its beauty and breath-taking landscapes. But there’s more to it. If you thought that nights in Himalayas are just for sleeping, you are mistaken. Do not miss the star-lit sky that is there to lit the world for you. Gaze at the clear sky filled with stars and feel its soothing effect on yourself.

1. Nubra Valley, Leh- Ladakh

About 150 km away from Leh, going by bullet to Nubra and enjoying the cold breezes touching the warmth of cheeks is something one longs for. But the trip is incomplete if you haven’t enjoyed laying under the sky at night, gazing at the stars. Plan a trip with your friends in Nubra Valley, live in tents and  enjoy hot maggi ,sitting in front of the bonfire, beating the cold and hunger and rejoice the night of your life.

 

2. Sonmarg, J&K

Beautiful as it is throughout the day, marvelous and stunning Sonmarg is at night. Explore the valley during the day and then lie down under the sky to shove the fatigue off at night. Breathe out all the problems in this peaceful environment and sleep peacefully looking at the stars.

3. Pangong Tso, Leh- Ladakh

Featured in the last scene of “3 Idiots”, Pangong Tso is a must see. It is approximately 175 kms from Leh and reaching here can be challenging, but it’s worth it. Enjoy the beauty of the landscape and vast tracts of sky. Witness the marvelous sunset and glittery skies at night.

4. Shanti Stupa –Leh, Ladakh

The crystal clear skies filled with stars makes it one of the most perfect places for stargazing in India. Situated at an altitude of 4267 meters,  it gives a view of surrounding snow capped mountains . This is once in a lifetime experience with star studded skies in the backdrop of Himalayas.

Sleep under millions of stars while listening to the sound of the wind and witness flocks of migratory birds. The land between Tibet and India, Spiti is located in Himachal Pradesh.

Also pay a visit to one of the oldest monasteries in the world “Ki Monastery” and “Tabo Monastery”.

 

6. Kuari pass, Uttarakhand

Situated at an altitude of 12,200 feet, Kuari pass is known for its unprecedented views. Trek around the place and at night set a campfire and arrange some tents to stay in. Look at the sky full of stars and catch up the ‘Milky way’ Galaxy.

 

7. Sarchu, Jammu and Kashmir

Gold Drop Camp (tented accomodation) at Sarchu The camp (at 14,432 feet) along the so-called Leh-Menali Highway is between the Baralacha La and Lachulung La Passes, near the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh in India.

It already has tented accommodations to facilitate your stay. While traveling, this is an overnight stop, at an altitude of 4,290 m. So take rest here and gaze at the glittery sky.
