Cabbage is a green leafy vegetable that must be included in our diet. There are many dishes of cabbage, so you can eat it however you want. Instead of the plain cabbage fry, we eat some tasty cabbage dishes in restaurants. What if you could prepare those cabbage dishes at home? You can eat yummy and healthy dishes in your meals. The ingredients of cabbage dishes need ingredients which are easily available. Follow some recipes to make restaurant style cabbage dishes at home.
Cabbage Manchurian
It is an appetizing dish of cabbage in Chinese cuisine. You can eat this with any rice dish or noodles dish.
Ingredients –
- Cabbage – 1 whole piece
- Corn flour – 3 tablespoons
- Maida (Refined flour or Plain flour) – 2 tablespoons
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Oil – As needed for frying cabbage balls and for making gravy
- Salt – According to taste
- Garlic – Some cloves
- Chili – Few
- Onion – 1
- Capsicum – 1 or 2 depending on size
- Tomato sauce – 2 tablespoons
- Pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
- Maggi Magic cube – 2
Method –
- Grate the whole cabbage finely. Squeeze grated cabbage and keep it aside. You can use the water released from cabbage. Chop garlic, onion, capsicum and chili finely.
- The quantity of corn flour and maida used can be more than that specified. Take a large mixing bowl and put grated cabbage, salt, corn flour and maida in it.
- Mix properly and form a dough from the mixture. If you find the dough to be watery, then add more corn flour and maida to it. Mix very well. Make balls from the dough.
- The size of balls can be according to your choice. Keep the cabbage balls aside. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil to it. Add cabbage balls in batches and fry them.
- Fry till they become crisp. Keep the cabbage balls aside. In the same pan, heat oil and put onion to it. Saute well for some time.
- Then add garlic, chili, capsicum and fry till the raw smell disappears. Put salt and pepper powder to it. Fry till they get cooked. Add tomato sauce to it and mix well.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of corn flour and Maggi Magic cubes with the water released by cabbage. Or you can use plain water for making this mixture.
- Add this to the pan where other ingredients have been sauteed. Mix thoroughly so that a gravy forms. Cook till the gravy turns glossy.
- Put the fried cabbage balls to this gravy. Mix very well so that the cabbage balls get coated with the gravy. Serve it hot.
Cabbage Paratha
This is a lip-smacking Indian flatbread made of cabbage and spices. You can eat it with curd, pickle, any raita, dal, fry or curry.
Ingredients –
- Cabbage – 250 grams
- Wheat flour – 2 cups
- Salt – According to taste
- Carom Seeds (Ajwain) – 1 teaspoon
- Fennel Seeds (Saunf) – 1 teaspoon
- Garlic – Few cloves
- Chili – Few
- Ginger – A piece
- Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Oil – 1 tablespoon
Method –
- Wash cabbage and wipe it properly. Grate the cabbage finely. Squeeze grated cabbage and keep it aside. You can use the water released from cabbage.
- Chop garlic, ginger and chili finely. Take a large mixing bowl and put grated cabbage, salt, wheat flour, carom seeds, fennel seeds, garlic, chili and ginger in it. Mix well.
- Add cumin powder, cumin powder and oil to it. Mix properly so that all the ingredients combine with each other. Mix very well and knead the dough.
- Add water to it only if required. Make sure that the dough is not at all watery. Cabbage releases water while kneading, so it may not be needed to add water.
- Make a soft dough and then make small balls from the dough. Take rolling board and pin and put wheat flour on it. Dust the small dough ball with wheat flour and roll it.
- Try to flatten it as thin as possible. Heat a tawa and keep the paratha on it. Flip the paratha and put oil to it. Make sure that it has cooked on both sides.
- Flip it continuously so that it cooks uniformly. Add more oil if required. You may use ghee instead of oil for roasting paratha. Follow this process for all the dough balls.
- Serve them hot.
Cabbage Fritters
This is a delectable fried dish of cabbage. It is a famous snack. You can eat it with any chutney or sauce.
Ingredients –
- Cabbage – Half
- Salt – According to taste
- Besan (Chickpea flour or Gram flour) – 1 cup
- Baking Soda – A pinch
- Garlic – Some cloves
- Chili – Few
- Onion – Half
- Ginger – A piece
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – Half teaspoon
- Asafoetida (Hing) – A pinch
- Oil – As needed for frying
Method –
- Shred cabbage finely and chop onion, ginger, garlic, chili finely. Take a large mixing bowl and put shredded cabbage, onion, ginger, garlic, chili and salt. Mix well.
- Add besan, baking soda, chili powder, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Mix properly so that all the ingredients combine with each other and there is no lump.
- There is no need to add water for making the batter because cabbage releases water. Make small structures from the batter and keep the portions aside.
- Heat a pan and put sufficient oil to it. Add the batter portions and fry the cabbage fritters in batches. Fry till the fritters turn crisp and brown.
- Remove fritters from the pan. Serve them hot.

Cabbage Rice
This is a delicious rice dish of cabbage cooked with vegetables and spices. You can eat it with any raita, dal, fry or curry.
Ingredients –
- Cabbage – Half
- Cooked rice – 4 cups
- Oil – 4 tablespoons
- Mustard seeds (Rai) – 1 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1 teaspoon
- Peanuts – 3 tablespoons
- Chili – Few
- Onion – Half
- Carrot – Half
- Salt – According to taste
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
- Garam Masala – Half teaspoon
- Coriander leaves – 2 tablespoons
- Water – As required
Method –
- Chop cabbage, carrot, onion and chili finely. Heat a pan and put sufficient oil to it. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and peanuts. Let them splutter.
- Put chili, onion and saute well till the raw smell disappears. Add carrot and cook for some time. Put cabbage and salt. Mix well and saute for few minutes.
- Add chili powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Cook till the spices turn aromatic. Put little water and mix well. Cover the pan and simmer for few minutes.
- This helps in combining the vegetables and spices so that cooked rice can be coated well with this mixture. Remove cover from the pan and add cooked rice to it.
- Mix properly so that all the ingredients get combined with rice. Cover the pan and simmer for few minutes so that rice absorbs the flavor. Remove cover and mix well.
- Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve it hot.
