Lip-smacking dessert recipes to tickle your taste buds

It feels good to end any meal with a dessert. We usually have dessert with lunch and dinner. There are various types of desserts that tickle our taste buds. Some Indian desserts can be prepared anytime with easily available ingredients at home. If you can prepare lip-smacking desserts at home, then you will not have to depend on sweet shops for them. Follow the recipes of these Indian desserts.

Custard Halwa

This is a mouth-watering dessert which has a rich taste. It tastes just like the Halwa found in sweet shops.

Ingredients –

  1. Custard powder – 1 cup
  2. Sugar – 1 cup
  3. Ghee – Half cup
  4. Dry fruits – According to taste
  5. Water – 2 cups

Method –

  1. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  2. I had used custard powder of Vanilla flavor but you can use custard powder of any flavor.
  3. Take a large mixing bowl, put custard powder and sugar in it. Add water and mix very well. Make sure that there is no lump and sugar has dissolved completely in the mixture.
  4. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Add the mixture to it and stir properly. Stir continuously so that lump does not form. Stir till the mixture thickens.
  5. Add dry fruits to it and stir vigorously till the mixture turns translucent and glossy. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Besan Halwa

This is a delicious dessert make from Chickpea flour. It is usually prepared in festivals.

Ingredients –

  1. Ghee – Half cup
  2. Dry fruits – According to taste
  3. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  4. Besan (Gram flour or Chickpea flour) – 1 and half cup
  5. Suji (Rava or Semolina) – Half cup
  6. Milk – 2 cups
  7. Sugar – Half cup

Method –

  1. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  2. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Add Besan to it and mix properly. Then add Suji and mix. Stir continuously on low flame. Roast till the color of Besan changes and turns dark.
  3. Then add milk and mix very well. Stir properly so that milk gets absorbed and no lump forms. Put sugar and mix properly till it dissolves completely in the mixture.
  4. Add dry fruits, Cardamom powder and mix well. Cook till the mixture separates from the pan. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Sabudana Ladoo

This is a tasty dessert made from Tapioca pearls. You can prepare this on any fast.

Ingredients –

  1. Sabudana (Tapioca pearls) – 1 cup
  2. Ghee – Half cup
  3. Dry fruits – According to taste
  4. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  5. Sugar – Half cup
  6. Water – As needed for soaking Sabudana

Method –

  1. I cannot specify the exact quantity of water as that depends on the quality of Tapioca pearls. Put sufficient water so that the Tapioca pearls can swell properly.
  2. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  3. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  4. Soak Sabudana in water for at least 6 hours. Before making the Halwa, drain out water from them and keep Sabudana aside. Heat a pan and put ghee to it.
  5. Add the entire quantity of Sabudana and sauté for some time. Then put sugar and mix properly. Add Cardamom powder and mix vigorously.
  6. If you have any food coloring powder, then you can add that and mix. Put dry fruits to the mixture and mix very well. Stir till the mixture separates from the pan.
  7. Let it cool down a bit but not completely. If the mixture cools completely, then it will be difficult to make Ladoo from it. Grease your hands with oil and make Ladoos from the mixture.
  8. Make Ladoos when the mixture is warm and serve them.

Atta Halwa

This is a delectable dessert made from wheat flour. It is prepared as an offering to God in festivals.

Ingredients –

  1. Wheat flour (Atta) – 1 cup
  2. Ghee – 1 cup
  3. Dry fruits – According to taste
  4. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  5. Sugar – Half cup
  6. Water – 3 cups

Method –

  1. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.
  2. In Cardamom, remove the husk and crush the seeds in mortar and pestle. The powder should be fine. You may use powdered sugar but whole sugar will also dissolve in the dessert.
  3. Heat a pan and put ghee to it. Add wheat flour and mix properly so that lump does not form. Roast on low flame and stir continuously till the color of wheat changes.
  4. Then put water to it and stir well. Add sugar and mix properly. Keep stirring so that all the ingredients get combined. Put cardamom powder and dry fruits to it.
  5. Mix vigorously and make sure that there is no lump. Cook till the mixture thickens. Then you can cut the Halwa into pieces. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.

Vermicelli Halwa

This is a yummy dessert made from Vermicelli. It has a rich and creamy taste.

Ingredients –

  1. Vermicelli (Semiya) – 1 cup
  2. Ghee – 1 cup
  3. Dry fruits – According to taste
  4. Cardamom (Elaichi) – Few pods
  5. Water – 1 and half cup
  6. Milk – 1 cup
  7. Sugar – Half cup

Method –

  1. You can use any dry fruits of your choice. I used almonds, cashews and raisins for this. I chopped almonds and cashews and fried all dry fruits in ghee.

  3. Heat a pan and put half cup ghee to it. Add vermicelli to it. Roast it continuously till its color changes to brown. Keep the Vermicelli aside.
  4. Heat the same pan and put the remaining half cup ghee to it. Add water to it and let it boil. Then put the roasted Vermicelli and let it swell. Stir and let it get cooked.
  5. Put milk to it and mix well. Then add sugar and stir properly. Cook till the mixture thickens. If you have any food coloring powder, then you can add that and mix.
  6. Add Cardamom powder and mix vigorously. Put dry fruits to the mixture and mix very well. Stir till the mixture turns creamy and separates from the pan.
  7. Serve it hot or cold according to taste preference.
