Dear Zindagi – Review and earnings on the 10th day

The first frame kicks off with Kaira peering into the camera. She shoots a wrap-up scene of the movie she works on. A shot which depicts a career-driven young woman who is fickle when it comes to love. It’s soon followed by a series of lightning fast relationships and migrating to different places. The protagonist eventually drowns in a pool of her sorrows.

Kaira is an independent woman but I failed to place her on the strong side, she is fidgety and finicky. Much like your usual new-gen product with too much on her plate and indigestible life problems in both her romantic and work life. Surrounded by her very own lollipop gang in which one of them is the mother hen who is always territorial when it comes to her chicks and the source of pragmatism. The first half is rich in colour and break-up songs gives very low hope to the viewer and making it unbearable as the story proceeds with monotony.

With the entry of ‘Jug’ A.K.A Dr. Jehangir Khan, there is a fluctuation and progress in both Kaira’s life and the pace of the tale. Shahrukh Khan plays the role of Jug and his therapy sessions with Alia Bhatt’s character makes it worthwhile to continue watching the movie. I believe the backbone of the flick was the mid-life crisis Kaira has and how everyone could connect with that phase of the character on a personal level. The heart-wrenching sequences from the protagonist’s past are the one to look out for and they honestly ripped.

The director raised the bar after her incredible film – English Vinglish. And after watching Sridevi’s mind-boggling performance and your high expectations will get the better of you. Naturally, the actresses in both her films are incomparable, but just a thought. I might have enjoyed the film if I probably read it as a book and it is an inexplicable feeling. Although, you could hit the theaters if you are into the slice-of-life type of movies such as this one.
