Dowry-A pride or a crime

0

The word marriage in itself implies various meaning. It means when two people who have decided to spend their life with each other by accepting all the issues between them. But in Indian society, marriage has turned a burden for the girl’s family as they spend their full savings in order to satisfy the needs of the boy’s family. This is termed as Dowry or dahej in Hindi.Dowry is basically the amount of money or goods brought by the bride to her husband on their marriage. It may include cash, jewelry, electrical appliances, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils, car and other household items that help the newly-weds set up their home.

It is not only in countries like India but various countries in this world suffer from these issues like Pakistan, North Africa and other parts of South Asia. In India, Historical eyewitness reports, suggest dowry in ancient India was insignificant. But after the beginning of 20th-century dowry became common among people.

But now in 21st century it has become torcher for the bride and its family. Dowry is widely considered to be both a cause and a consequence of son preference. The practice of dowry inevitably leads to discrimination in different areas against daughters and makes them vulnerable to various forms of violence.

In a certain study done by the WHO, shows that the estimates for actual number of dowry deaths per year vary widely ranging from 600-750 homicides a year to 25,000 homicides a year, with official government records suggesting 7,618 deaths in 2006 and about 4.6% of total crimes against women in India were dowry death-related, and another 1.9% were related to violation of Dowry Prohibition Act, which shows the true reality of our nation in terms of equality of status.

It doesn’t mean that the government and the judiciary system of our country is not doing anything against Dowry. If any person, after the commencement of dowry prohibited act 1961, gives or takes or abets the giving or taking of dowry, he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than five years, and with fine which shall not be less than fifteen thousand rupees or the amount of the value of such dowry, whichever is more. Government has also tried various campaign against eradication of Dowry in India. Some of them are as follows

Lastly I would like to conclude by saying that don’t materialize your love for money. And in this case both the bride and groom family is responsible for the crime .As the bride family give preference to the society rather than their daughter self-respect whereas the groom family try to materialize their son for rupees. For them the money they have spent on their son can be returned only by taking money from the bride’s family .This problem can be eradicated only when both the families change their perspective and society should also try to boycott these people in order to show them what they are doing is not right.

The World Ends Here

0

The adventure long lost

For the world never stays the same after

Not called upon much by one

But this love found me in the desert

Where I searched for you in the horizon

In the sandy dunes under the Sun

The hot air in the oasis

Brought me your fragrance, it was then that it all vanished

I was then turned up in the mountains up north

Where the cold ice caps soothed me

With its visualisation about you

I saw and took the snow in my hands

Hoping it would be you that I’d grasp

It’s coldness didn’t bother me

For it was your warmth that I looked for

But as I looked at my hands

The snow turned water, the cold ice caps were no longer to be seen

The climate turned pleasant

The chirping of the birds awoke me

And the greenery all around reminded me

Of your love, it’s everlasting strength

The never-ending distance it covers

It all just takes me in

For it was this love that I’d been waiting for

For so long, since eternity it seems to me

It couldn’t have been better, this moment

Just as I think of it, the nature changes again

This time I stand in a room, my room

In front of the reflector, the silver painted reflector

It shows me, me

It explains to me what I had been searching for all this time

Roaming in all the corners of the world

Was all the time inside me

You were inside me

I was inside you

And will always be, for this love,

The strange, strange love

Captures all and makes us one

We are one, you and me

And the world ends here

For there could be no better place to live

And no better feeling to be felt

The world ends at us

Improve your English fluency in 3 easy steps

0

There’s no denying the fact that English plays a very important role in our lives today. This is one thing that , kind of , sets up the first impression in any kind of formal meeting, function or whatever the case may be. And definitely, it is a great confidence booster as well.
As far as I know, English is taught as a compulsory subject in most Indian schools, right from the elementary level. Indians know how to write English (may be not perfectly, but yes, in varying degrees, of course). But the point is, how many of these people can actually speak English fluently?
Speaking English is not as difficult as it seems (if you know the basics of the language). But people are generally hesitant to speak, mainly due to under-confidence and lack of practice, eventually leading to stammered words with little fluency.
If you are keen on improving your English fluency, check out the following list that will hopefully help you do your job.
1. Watch English movies, series, news, videos, etc. If you are unable to catch up with the dialogues in the movies, use subtitles. Once you become comfortable with the subtitles after watching several movies, perhaps, try some without them. This is a simple way, and may take a bit of your time, but believe me, it is definitely worth it. Just give it a try. Go at your own pace. You will be rewarded.

2. Listen to English songs. Another great way to develop your English fluency whilst having fun in your pastime. Create your playlist as per the genres you love. You may not get the lyrics at first. Check out the lyrics with any website, then go back to the song and try to follow them. Pay attention to the singer’s pronunciation. Keep humming the songs in leisure. May be this sounds way too simple, but yes! It is effective .

3. And finally, practice, practice and just practice! There is no alternative to this. The more you practice, the more confident you become. Just grab a chance and start speaking in English whenever and wherever it is possible. You will definitely see an improvement in your fluency.

All being said, the bet is all yours now. Stop thinking, start speaking.
Enjoy English. Yes, it’s fun!

Munnar: Fernweh for God’s Holiday Home

4

Not every day would you wake up to the sun playing hide and seek with fog and clouds far from the maddening crowds of the ever growing city. Cool and calm the greenery envelopes you in a welcoming embrace, that’s Munnar for you. If Kerala is God’s own Country, Munnar  is definitely his holiday home. There are many reasons why in your lifetime you should definitely visit the land of tea-gardens at least once. This is the reflection of a wandering traveler in search of the best places to see in India, and her train stops this time at a quite assemble of life amidst the hills. If you are hungry for a getaway, pack your bags, this particular hill-station awaits your arrival.

The culturally vibrant, historically important and greenery packed  town is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala with the serene beauty that gives the feeling of paradise on earth. Life is but too short to visit places by the book, if you are in for some exploration,  set out on your own sans tour-guides. Picturesque would be the apt. word for such a place, straight out of books, this Hill station is anything like the conventional ones we tend to visit be it with families or a romantic getaway with your beloved. Munnar promises something new held within its historical setting of ipened tea-estates, golden spice gardens and innumerable little snap-worthy nooks and corners.

1600 m above the sea level, this hill station has a very expedient climate to enjoy. The town without “fans”-yes you heard it right, this place is devoid of fans or for that matter any sort of air-conditioning systems except for room-heaters, because summer in Munnar is a pleasant season to witness. Sky- hugging tea plantations, winding lanes, quite surroundings, innumerable spice gardens and holiday facilities make this a popular tourist attraction. The major tourist spots remain overloaded with people and are indeed pretty unavoidable, but Munnar is rather in finding out your own memory-moments. As I always love to mention travelling is like reading a book, read it thus with your own understanding; Google can take some rest while you go on to explore this Southern-Ecstasy.

Go ahead get lost amidst the glory of the town. Find out the local cuisine; indulge in the richness of our Indian delicacies while the day recedes behind the mountains. Many shops would attract you to buy wooden handicrafts, jewelry, spices, variety of tea, tea-masalas, a wide range of coffee beans, mouth-watering chocolates and beautiful flowering-seeds. There is no specific season or even any reason for you to pay a visit to this wonderland. Bored with monotonous life? Go on book your tickets: go alone, or with family or even with your partner, Munnar promises you a basket full of surprises.

If you are a newly-wed couple or would be married soon, take my word this land awaits you to pay a visit- your ultimate honeymoon destination. The sprawling grasslands, quite roads, foggy atmosphere and a cozy welcoming attitude of all, is it not perfect to start your married life with? As I mentioned earlier, you need to hold on to your partner’s hand and venture out, share moments, make memories, begin a new chapter of life in the bliss of the mountain air. Well if you have been married for quite some time and wish to find recluse in some place, even then Munnar be your option. Let go of all your worries and just enjoy. Finally if it’s a family trip to enjoy your togetherness, well you know which ride to take.

Neelakurinji the beautiful flower bathing the hills in blue once in every twelve years is indeed a pleasant phenomenon to witness along with trekking the highest peak of South India, Anamudi. Lush green vegetations and a wide range of mountain flora and fauna are but just few attributes of God’s holiday home. If your thirst for adventurous knowledge does not satiate with just being a part of such a beautiful paradise, then I would rather  suggest you to explore some things on your own. My reflections for you would always be that do not follow the crowd to all the conventional tourist spots; travel to find new regions, new snap-moments and all new things to make it trip-worthy, moreover if you have not seen the world with your own eyes then your world remains undiscovered. Get your travel-shoes out people, this time Munnar awaits you.

Those deep dark eyes had stories unrevealed
Those withered pale lips had tales to unfold
She daidled in search of a stash for her
As this colleen had no comitator

She was a young berry-a wisteria
But the hex on her engulfed her wholey
She has stains on her body, not on her soul
But the stag declassed this milady
She stood like a statuesque
Her womb bears no fruit

The wyvern has tirled and tiered her
She had fallen in a tole
It trappled her to death’s agony
The wolfsbane had wryly parched on her
His worm eaten mind never heard her wretched weeps
She was a kind of slate
Fate turned her into a blate
His blasing wolfshound gave her no chance to bid adieu
For death has swallowed her from tip to toe
Groaning in pain yelled her soul
It echoed for a while and perished forever

TRAVEL HACKS

0

Have you ever had to leave your dearest pair of jeans at home while packing for a trip because there’s no more space in your suitcase? Well, you might not have realized it then, but chances are that there had been space for at least three of those jeans in your suitcase.
Surprised?
Read on to find out how you could have packed differently to save that extra space and utilize your luggage space to the maximum. Also, see how you can manage your accessories and toiletries in a hassle-free manner, make cheaper bookings and a few more travel hacks that might come in handy for your next trip!

1.    UTILIZE YOUR SHOES

Instead of packing your socks separately, roll the pair of socks and fit them in your shoes. Wrap your shoe in a small plastic or cloth bag and place it at the bottom of your suitcase. If the shoes are tightly stuffed, they will not only save space but also prevent the formation of wrinkles or creases due to the weight of the luggage on the shoe (especially if you’re carrying leather ones!).

2.    ROLL YOUR CLOTHES

Rolling your clothes instead of folding them saves space and also prevents wrinkles. Just lay out the clothing item and start rolling it into a tight cylindrical shape. Pack these rolls in your suitcase in a way that they don’t unwind while traveling and you’re good to go!

3.    The military-style roll

Image result for military style roll

Another way to roll your clothes is the military style roll. This technique works best for t-shirts. First, fold both the sleeves inward and the bottom behind. Next, fold each side inward, overlapping each other to form a rectangle. Roll this rectangle from top to bottom and use the two flaps to tuck it in like a burrito and you’re done!

4.    PILL CONTAINERS FOR JEWELLERY

Jewelry items like rings, small lockets, earrings, cuff links etc. are often lost in our luggage and if not, are tangled together in a jewelry box/pouch that we use to store them. Pill containers are a great way to store these items so that they are handy and tangle-free.

5.    CHARGE ON TV

Even if you have a proper checklist, it’s easy to forget something or the other while packing for a trip. If it is your phone charger that you’ve forgot, then there’s nothing to worry about because most hotel rooms come with television sets that have USB ports where you can connect your phone using a data cable.

6.    INVEST IN PACKING CUBES

Packing cubes can be used to keep everything organized so that when you reach your destination, you are aware of where everything is. Roll or fold similar kind of clothing as per your preference and fit them in these cubes which can be placed easily in your luggage.

7.    ZIPPER BAGS FOR BULKY CLOTHES

If you’re carrying bulky items of clothing that you don’t mind getting creased, then chuck them into these space saver bags. Roll them to squeeze the air out and seal the bag with the zipper on the top. This method can eliminate up to 80% of the previous volume.

8.    BINDER CLIP FOR RAZORS

A razor might cause accidental cuts or damage other items stored with it. A binder clip can be used to cover the blade of the razor so that such accidents can be prevented.

9.    TIC TAC CONTAINERS FOR BOBBY PINS

Image result for tic tac for bobby pins

If you’re a girl, then you would definitely be able to relate to the struggle of losing a bunch of bobby pins every day. Where do these little things disappear? Tic tac containers are a great way to store bobby pins in one place as they are about the same height and are easy to use without spilling them over.

10.    BOOK CHEAPER

Most websites use the cookies and cache that have been previously saved on your computer to determine your urge to book the tickets and hike the prices accordingly. Clear the cookies and cache regularly to make it hard for these websites to track your searches and give them the impression that you are a fresh customer.
