TOP 10 KOREAN DRAMAS

While India is still stuck into bogus saas-bahu and some so called supernatural dramas (such as Naagin), Korean dramas and pop bands are slowly invading the hearts of Indian youth. The hallyu wave is making its way gradually to north eastern states ( especially Manipur), West Bengal and Tamil Nadu(of course subbed!). Korean dramas stand out being realistic where friendships and relationships are built in a healthy way and morality prevails. Full House, Princess Hours, Secret Garden are some of the most watched Korean dramas. So drama Klovers, scroll down to know the top Korean dramas of 2016.

  1. GOBLIN

GOBLINThe name gives you an impression of an ugly dwarf like creature you are used to know in folklore. But this oppa is totally opposite. This is a fantasy romance drama starring Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na which revolves around an immortal goblin, an amnesiac grim reaper, a girl who can see ghosts and goblin’s reincarnated sister. Goblin is a thoughtfully crafted masterpiece that takes youon a roller coaster ride of emotions and pushes you to continuously think and immerse yourself in it with an unexpected ending. Itis epic and even raised the bar of Kdramas. Its acting, photography, cinematography and osts (official sound tracks) are mind blowing. Go for it!

  1. SIGNAL

SIGNALAfter a long time I have finally found a crime thriller that is actually thrilling! It is a fantasy crime drama (starring Lee Je-hoon, Kim Hye-soo and Cho Jin-woong) about a group of detectives who are able to communicate with a detective in the past using an old two way radio to solve crimes. The characters are extremely appealing with a very interesting overarching plot that will make you glued to the drama. This drama is highly recommended and will not disappoint you at all.

  1. WEIGHT LIFTING FAIRY KIM BOK JOO

This is a light hearted romantic comedy( starring Lee Sung-kyung  and Nam Joo-hyuk ) about the ups and down of college life (career, emotions, love life, friendship etc). The story revolves around the athletes especially a weightlifter Kim Bok Joo on a college campus trying to achieve her dreams and experiencing first love as a young woman.  The drama has some nice humor with lots of heartwarming moments and very relatable with our daily life. Also the lead pair are very cute and so is their love story. You will never get bored of them.

  1. MOON LOVERS: SCARLET HEART RYEO

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo tells the story of a modern day woman who travels back in time to the Goryeo era, gets involved with several princes especially the fourth prince and finds herself in the midst of their battle for the throne. This is one of the best historical fantasy romance drama of 2016. It is an epic journey and has everything you could ask for including action, romance, handsome princes, drama, depth, melodious osts and so much intensity. People who have absolute love for historical drama, this drama will not let you down at all.

  1. DESCENDANTS OF THE SUN

Here comes the “song song” couple (Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo). This year their acting has won the hearts all over the world. Though this military romance drama (which revolves around the love story of captain of the south Korean special forces unit and a cardiothoracic specialist) do not have a gripping plot but the acting of the popular actors and supporting actors have a high chance to make you fall head over heels for it. Though the sound track is good but I feel the characters could have been given more depth so that the viewers are more intrigued towards it. If you are a huge fan of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo then watch it!

  1. ROMANTIC DOCTOR, TEACHER KIM

At last I got a medical drama which is so intriguing! The story revolves around a genius and triple-board certified surgeon who guides Kang Dong-joo and Yoon Seo-jeong to become great doctors there and fight against power and money for the sake of patients. This drama is very captivating and extraordinary and will inspire you no matter what you are or who you are. You will enjoy each and every episode and will witness the wonderful growth of each character. You will be absolutely fascinated by them.

  1. FIVE CHILDREN

This is a good, warm and comforting family drama and you will never regret to spend your time on its 54 episodes. This is a story about a widower who has two children and a single mother who was betrayed by her husband three years ago and has three children. This is very realistic and   there’s also an enduring positivity in many characters that I found appealing and quite inspirational. It inspires us to live life more cheerfully and tenaciously and to laugh at life more easily.

  1. OH MY GEUM-BI

If your heart can handle gut-wrenching, sad melodramas then go for this one. This is a story of a con-man and his daughter who suffers from Niemann–Pick disease. The best part was that they already knew that she would die but the courage and will power shown by them gives a lesson that “No matter what happens try till the last moment and you may never know miracles do happen”. This is really beautiful, amazing and heart touching and the child actor gave her best. This one is highly recommended!

  1. W- TWO WORLDS

This drama has a unique storyline starring Lee Jong-suk and Han Hyo-joo. A story about a cardiothoracic surgeon and the main character of a webtoon wrote by her father and how she is romantically involved with him when she is teleported to his world i.e. the webtoon. Apart from Show’s bold storytelling, the execution of the two worlds and management of the relationship and transitions between the two worlds is done so skillfully. Though some episodes may be dragging but this was daring and different.

  1. THE LEGEND OF THE BLUE SEA

Sorry Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho fans, but this drama got high ratings only because of the actors popularity. This is a fantasy romance melodrama which revolves around the life of a mermaid and a con man and their past life (in Joseon era). The drama started off as an interesting story – the con man’s tricks, intrigues, crimes, getting-aways etc., adding a lot of tempo and suspense. But only in the first few episodes and then everything slowed down badly. Though some psychological moments were well portrayed. If you are a Lee Min Hoo lover then you can go for it.
